Who wants to see my haul from today?

@stracci2000, is the enamel bird a Wells piece? It looks very similar to ones I have seen.

Obviously that diamond ring is amazing! Makes you wonder what other treasures out there are just waiting to be discovered. Also love that Ripka bracelet, I had a necklace and bracelet of hers that I wore forever, the stones (topaz) were so abraded when I stopped wearing them!

The pin is marked W.E.H. S.S.
I think the pin was made by Walter E. Hayward, Attleboro MA. It seems that lots of jewelry companies were in Attleboro. I think @Mreader has a locket from this company...
The S.S. is old style for sterling silver.
It appears that the back is plated with a white metal (rhodium?). It is definitely sterling under the enamel, cause I dabbed the chipped areas with Tarn-X to whiten them before touching up with blue nail polish. I learned that trick when working on those old enamel pocket watches I have!
She's gonna look sweet on a chain!

Great job. I probably would have been afraid to try nail polish. And I had no idea Attleboro had a jewelry history. I live about 30 minutes from there. I wonder if there are any old jewelry treasures hiding in their thrift stores or antique shops.

Nail polish is great to fix enamel.
I mixed two blue colors together, then added a smidge of clear for better transparency. Then more clear on top. Applied with a toothpick.
I'm not scared anymore to take a stab at restoring something like this.
A very wise man (my neighbor) once said to me "It's mine and I'll f*ck it up if I want to"
Words to live by!

Highlights from today:

First pic-I have no idea what this is called but it's 14kt. If anyone knows please let me know!

Someone posted a question about that type of closure not long ago - and someone else answered it. Hmm…

I was thinking I could use something like that! I have one or two long rope-style necklaces that I sometimes like to wear doubled. That little gizmo would be much more elegant that the tiny safety pins I currently use for that job!

Here ya go:

Oh interesting, thank you for posting that. I figured it might be a pocket watch accessory but wasn’t really sure. If I still had it, I would gladly send it to you, the seller didn’t even realize it was gold so I got it in a lot of items and didn’t pay much for it.

I just posted this on the pearl forum, sorry to be redundant!
From the pawn shop, twin pearls on a 14k white sparkle chain. Pearls are 10mm.
Was $189, but they let me have it for $90.

I couldn't leave it there.....you know how that goes!
The chain is way too long, so I'm thinking about modifying it, or changing it out for a shorter one.

@stracci2000, oh yes, I know that feeling of not being able to leave something behind all too well :cool2:

It would be a shame to lose that chain, it’s so pretty, how can you modify it? Just curious because I wouldn’t think it could be made shorter since it doesn’t have links.

I would have to cut 3 inches off each end, then re- solder the clasp. I also don't want to risk melting the ends, seeing how this chain is so delicate.
But then I will have two 3" sections that are useless.
I will have to ruminate about this one!

its a really beautiful chain, i admired it on the other thread

Are you guys sick of me and my Wedgwood yet?
This one was at a local antique place for $14.00
It dates to 1879, my oldest one yet.
8" high, it's a jug/pitcher. The spout is chipped, but that's ok.

I love looking at all the found treasures—living vicariously, here.

sigh
when i get my phone back from the repair shop
NZ closes down for what seems like months over Christmas*
and i need a new charging port that can't be ordered out of Auckland till Wednesday

its chunky working man's kind of glass :lol-2:
most of the royal family stuff i have is finer china, but some loyal subject somewhere was patriotic enough to want to celcebrate HM's jubilee
i also have a tiny Coleman's mustard pot from Edward VII's corrination

it all makes me sad it is wanted and loved by so few these days
these treasures that were in a genration of grandma's china cabinets and now with two generations downsizing at once and with grandkids not interested in old stuff there is a glut of the stuff
i had to stop buying it when i filled an entire cabinet that is in the guest room ( Borris and Fluffa Duffa enjoy looking at it, im sure )
and of course as you know its not just royal family stuff that's going for a song these days

*well shops keep working, but everyone else is at the beach

Here's a little 14k ring I found at the thrift shop. Nobody there looks at the marks on the jewelry.
Their loss, my gain!
All their rings are $4.00

@stracci2000, is it your size? I want to see it on! In any case how adorable is that?!

I also got these earrings for $3.00
They are sterling, most likely Navajo, and the stone is called charoite. It's a swirly iridescent purple, and if I don't like them as earrings, I might make a ring and pendant out of them.

Few things for today. DH and the kids went to the comic shop so I had them drop me at an antique store where I found the Buxton ring storage box (with its original vintage cardboard outer box) and the Jennings brothers jewelry chest. The jewelry chest lining is all original and in excellent shape for its age.

Then I went to the thrift shop around the corner from our house and spotted the dog bracelet, I think it might be Essex crystal it is marked “Sterling”. The crystals are pretty badly scratched but it was $20 and I haven’t seen a bracelet like this in my travels before.

@stracci2000, you think it is Essex crystal and if so should I (if it can even be done) have the crystals polished so you can see the dogs better?

Love the jewelry chest, Art Nouveau!!
And there's room for all your rings in that cool box!
I adore that dog bracelet! Too bad that it's damaged! (A careless former owner!)
It's either rock crystal or glass.
You could ask your local jeweler about it. They may be able to do it easily with the correct abrasive. It will probably cost more than you paid, unfortunately.

@stracci2000, you know I can’t turn down a good ring storage box!

Too bad about the bracelet but it’s still cool anyways.
