Will you get the new Omicron updated booster?

@missy This is what it says on the CDC website..Scroll down to almost the bottom.
You can get the regular original if you haven’t completed the regular series. When you need a booster...the Omicron updated one is the only one given.

Interesting. I totally see what you’re saying. But.

I called Costco pharmacy and our local pharmacy. I spoke to the pharmacists there. In fact today we went to Costco and I inquired again. They are still giving the original booster shot. The new bivalent Covid vaccine has not yet been delivered to them. Not sure if they’re out of compliance with the CDC. But this is the info they told me. I actually located a pharmacy not too far and scheduled us for the bivalent vaccine Friday. But I will call before we go to double check they have the bivalent vaccine.

The pharmacist told me today that all the vaccines are pulled. I wonder if it’s by states.

It’s crazy. I was just sharing with Greg the link you sent. I can’t help but wonder if they’re out of compliance. I’d think all states would abide by the CDC requirements. Thanks for sharing Joanne. I’ll be having a conversation with our local pharmacist tomorrow. I’d like to know.

Yes..They can give out shots from the original but those are for people who didn’t complete the first two shots. When I made the appointment online it was called the updated booster. It doesn’t say anything about omicron. I double checked with the pharmacy..and also spoke to my doctor’s nurse to make sure. That’s what they are calling it now. I only found out about them only giving the updated booster when we went to the pharmacy today.

Just made my appointment and the walgreens locally said they will have the updated vaccines starting tomorrow, September 8th. Edited to say I'm in NY.

Hi @MamaBee, he’s having his Friday. I got the last appointment for today!

All done, and I double checked it was the new Omicron variant booster, and that it was Pfizer too. The lady administering it said they’re busy, so I’m really glad we’ve scheduled ours as soon as we could. Texas has been allocated 900,000 doses. So far so good.

Funnily enough, we were sitting and waiting and a lady sat next to me and commented on my sandals. It turns out she’s one of our new neighbours

I specifically asked for the bivalent booster. The booster. They don’t yet have them in but are taking appointments for the original booster. I’m also thinking for those who didn’t get their first two they’re not getting them now. But lol who knows.

Did you look at the pharmacy website? Both CVS and Walgreens here in MA make it very clear that any booster is the updated one. And when I got mine today I was told they cancelled all appointments for booster yesterday as their shipment had t arrived and only the update could be given as a booster. I think you can still get the original if you haven’t completed the first series but any booster is now the new version

Yes it definitely states original booster has been pulled when I search. Just sharing what two different pharmacists told me yesterday and then again today. Weird right? Anyway I am planning on getting the bivalent vaccine as soon as it arrives. Hopefully Friday.

Wishing everyone minimal side effects and good protection.

I think I'd be going to a different pharmacy. Maybe they are trying to use up their old stock even if they are not supposed to? Just make sure to double check and ask what you are getting and make sure it's printed correctly on the sheet you are given. Good luck on Friday.

I am on the fence if I should get it now or wait. I have already had 2 boosters - 4 shots total. I also had covid (probably omicron) twice, in December and late July. Surely I am protected for a while. I think I might wait until November to get another booster.

I think that’s a wise plan. Since you had Covid in late July you should wait at least 3 months before you get the booster. Your protection should be pretty solid having had Covid plus the boosters.

Thanks. Yes I made an appointment at a pharmacy I’ve never been to before. I spoke with a woman there and she was confident they had the new stock. But I’ll definitely double check it.

Absolutely, I am completely busy this weekend but will get it the next.

I got my 2nd booster in July. I waited because trials showed efficacy peaked early with the 2nd booster before diminishing -and- I've read that some caution too many vaccines might adversely interfere with the body's immune response and I felt safer with warmer weather coming.

Although my original plan was to wait until the fall, I decided to go for the 2nd booster over the summer because 1) there was the unexpected summer surge 2) an August visit with extended family in SoCal and 3) there were rumors of an updated booster becoming available in the fall. I felt getting the 2nd booster when I did would give me the flexibility of waiting to see how the new vaccine/virus plays out without ruling out the option of getting it if/when I wanted.

As I am not at high risk of severe illness and still believe in spacing out vaccines, I will again delay getting the next shot until there is a compelling reason.

@Austina That‘s great Colin is getting his on Friday..That’s funny you saw your neighbor there..You lucked out in the neighbor department..but so did they.. I’m happy you are all settled in your new beautiful home.

I will get it. I hope this gets approved for kids. My daughter is FINALLY getting her last pfizer covid shot this Saturday but this is the original formula. Im assuming the protections isn’t that great.

I had pfizer The first two shots and Moderna as my booster. I think it was the way the tech injected it but holy cow my arm was bruised for a LONG time. He said “I must be well hydrated” because a lot of blood came out when he injected me. Not sure if that’s true. I think he didn’t do the greatest job. But ugh. Hope next booster goes better.

Just wanted to update you, I don’t seem to have had any reaction, other than this morning, slight soreness at the injection site, which is what I experienced with the others.

Thanks @Austina..I have the same..nothing but soreness in the arm. Last time I didn’t feel warm..but around 1pm I took my temp just to see if anything was brewing. I was a couple of degrees above normal. That’s very unusual because I’m always around 97.5. I was two degrees above that. I’m going to do the same today. I hope the vaccine is doing something.

Wonderful @Austina anf @MamaBee! I had moderate (102 plus fever and chills and aches and sweats etc) reactions to all three so I’m pretty sure I’ll experience a reaction to the bivalent.

Update from me. The local pharmacies here finally pulled the appointments for the boosters online. So I guess now they are officially not offering the original boosters. But until this morning you could schedule appointments for the booster but they did not have the new stock in because I called to find out. I never scheduled so don’t know if they actually gave the original boosters to people the past few days this week or if they canceled their appointments. But I do know now you cannot schedule for any booster here yet as they don’t have it in stock.

Except for one pharmacy I did call last night whose pharmacist confirmed yes, they had the bivalent boosters in stock. So I scheduled an appointment tomorrow late afternoon. We shall see what happens. I don’t mind waiting because I have mixed feelings lol but I definitely plan on getting it. So if it’s available tomorrow I’ll get it tomorrow.

I'm having the same effects as my other shots. Tired, some minor chills and very slight sore arm. Nothing serious.

I am very much looking forward to getting the new bivalent moderna one. I had pfizer for the others, but would like the omicron specific one which was only just approved in Canada. I think it will be available in my province in a few weeks.

Pfizer's updated vaccine is bivalent so maybe you will have a choice of which to get. I stuck with Pfizer.

My husband is feeling fatigued with a sore arm. He cancelled his golf game this morning because he was too tired. He was looking forward to going so it must be the vaccine.
I did sleep cold last night which is unusual. I do sleep with socks on because my feet are always cold..but I was cold enough to want to get up to get a comforter. I didn’t though and eventually warmed up enough to sleep. Maybe it was the vaccine. I don’t know. It definitely wasn’t the chills though..just felt cold.

I don't believe the pfizer one is available here yet, I've only heard the moderna one is. I'll have to double check closer to availability!

I was cold too and I am usually warm while sleeping so yes, I think it was the vaccine.

Too late. Mine is scheduled Sunday morning and I got Covid today.

Oh No! I hope your symptoms are mild and it passes quickly. Jeez. That is truly bad luck. I'm sorry.

I had my three jabs and consider myself fit and healthy.
I got Covid a few weeks ago.
OMG I was soooooo sick. Seriously sick. I hate to imagine how sick I might have been without my jabs.
When I’m eligible for my 4th (and any number of extra booster after) stand aside lest I trample you getting to the front of the queue.
