Will you get the new Omicron updated booster?

Totally agree. We’re on the same page @Austina

And it still stuns and amazes me that most here don’t wear masks anymore. Including our pharmacist. I asked Greg how can educated people not wear masks. We know masks do protect against Covid. Greg said everyone is tired and they just don’t care anymore. It’s sad imo.

Something as simple as wearing a mask can keep one healthy. Why wouldn’t everyone do it? I have asthma and lung issues. I don’t love wearing a mask. However I plan on wearing my mask for as long as I deem it necessary. It’s worth the inconvenience. Period.

The fact so many don’t agree is mind boggling. Yes people vary but common sense is in short supply. IMO

FWIW I have serious issues understanding what people say when wearing a mask. Teaching with one on and having my students wear them was a complete nightmare. I forgot how bad it was until I went on a cruise a few weeks ago, I had so much trouble understanding the staff BC they were all still mandated to wear masks and many had foreign accents in addition to that.

Agree. That’s why I prefer the N95 duckbill type mask. It’s away from your mouth and much easier to talk and understand others when they’re talking if they are wearing a duckbill mask too

Update: I had a fever for about 36 hours complete with body aches and chills. Feeling much better now. Low grade fever still with mild headache and backache. Arm is still sore but less severe than yesterday.

Thanks for the update and reminder! Just made an appointment for the new Covid vaccine and flu shot. :)

Consider getting them separately. Our pharmacist agreed with me that it’s wise to separate them by at least 14 days. Only reason CDC advises getting them both together is they’re afraid people won’t come back for the flu shot. If you can make the time it’s safer to separate them by at least 2 weeks. Good luck. Hope your side effects are mild!

At the risk of being pilloried, I actually don't plan on getting it unless it's required for my job. To the best of my knowledge I haven't had covid, and I get tested every Monday in my office since we went back full time last summer, unless I was completely asymptomatic. I was SUPER sick in January 2020, so before all this because a "thing," but I took an antibody test in May of that year and it didn't indicate that I'd had it. I've been exposed to many people who turned out to be positive, including living in the house with TR for an entire week with him coughing up a lung and touching everything a thousand times a day. I originally got the J&J and later a booster (Moderna, I think), with absolutely NO reaction either time. Literally ZERO. Not even a sore arm. I feel like getting anything more at this point is just tempting fate LOL!

Of course now that I've put this out there in the universe I'm sure I'll test positive tomorrow morning!

We just got our updated Omicron Vaccine. I’ll post later on tonight or tomorrow to let you know if we get any reactions. I’m happy we got it.

Yes, I'll get it. Walgreens near me are scheduling up through 9/23, but I think I'd like to wait till at least early October.

That makes sense..I will see my grandchildren soon who go to school…The five year old already had Covid.

Walgreens did say they have the updated booster, or I'd wait even longer.

Any booster given now should be the updated booster per the CDC. They aren't supposed to be giving the old one anymore. But @missy was told something different at Costco so people need to double check. I know that Walgreens and CVS are both ONLY giving the updated booster and their website is very clear on this. But anyone going to a local pharmacy or somewhere else should double check that they are not still using the old booster.

The appointment scheduling was pulled the day after we discussed this. So now I am sure they are only giving the updated booster if you are able to schedule. Otherwise you can no longer schedule an appointment. Until they get the new boosters in...but I believe at this point in time every pharmacy who gives the Covid vaccines has the new stock. AFAIK. Just call ahead if you are unsure.

FYI:

Could Covid exposure boost my immune system?

My husband had Covid at the end of April. I was clearly exposed for a number of days before he tested positive. I never developed symptoms or tested positive myself. Would this exposure ramp up my immune system in a way similar to a booster shot? Barbara, Boulder, Colorado
Who gets sick and who doesn’t when exposed to Covid is a perpetual source of fascination. I know this personally. Just a few months ago I traveled with a friend, spending days together in close contact. Turns out my friend had Covid the whole time. But I stayed virus free, leading me to believe I was special. I was among the so-called super immune. Of course, a few weeks later, my grandiose self-image was shattered when I tested positive for Covid. I asked Katrine Wallace, an epidemiologist at the University of Illinois at Chicago, whether the virus alone might give the immune system any benefit at all.
“Probably not,” she says.
Her explanation: “When a person is exposed to enough virus to develop an infection, the immune system starts to build its response. It's that immune response that gives the ‘boost’ or additional immunity.”
Since Barbara never tested positive—she shared that she took two rapid tests and one PCR test—that’s a good indication that her immune system was never challenged during her time of exposure. Even a virus like Covid, which is highly contagious, can miss repeated opportunities to infiltrate our bodies. At a certain point, it comes down to randomness and chance.

“It's a good question, though,” says Wallace. “For some viruses, where there is better mucosal immunity in the nose (via past infection or vaccines), people can fight off pathogens and develop an immune response without ever feeling ‘sick.’” In other words, for certain infections, your immune system might get revved up by recognizing a virus, and then swiftly fight it off.

“However, Covid-19 is not a virus that we have developed lasting mucosal immunity for, either through vaccines or via previous infections,” says Wallace.
This is the whole rationale for the development of the new Covid shots that are inhaled instead of injected, she says. The nose and mouth are where Covid first enters the body, so the vaccine antibodies elicited by those types of vaccines give people a more immediate line of defense. — Kristen V. Brown

Got the new Covid booster and the flu jab yesterday at CVS. It's hard for my husband to get out these days so we got appointments together and both vaccinations at once. Late last night, I woke up feeling very feverish and miserable. I haven't felt that ill in ages, and never before from vaccines. Anyway, I'm sure having either of those illnesses would be far worse. I took some ibuprofen and Tylenol, slept late and woke up feeling back to normal.

It sounds like you and your grandson are on the mend.. @AprilBaby..Did you test yourself or go to a test to treat place? I’m wondering how you got the Paxlovid.

Video visit! You need an Rx. I finished it this morning. Well you know how I said my skin hurt and the side of my head. I broke out in shingles AND herpes on the Rt side of my head. The roof of my mouth has shingles ( again) and my upper lip has herpes. I have an urgent care appt at 7 pm tonight. This is why immunocompromised people need to avoid Covid.

Pfizer or Moderna?

Oh no @AprilBaby! I hope 5hey can give you something to make you comfortable..It sounds horrible… Did you get a Shingrix vaccine? You poor thing!

Got my omicron booster yesterday. For background, I've had Moderna x 4. Dec 2020, Jan 2021, November 2021, May 2022. I chose Moderna (again) for the higher dose, especially since I have not (that I know of) had a recent COVID infection. As with my other two boosters, I self-administered it gluteally to avoid axillary lymphadenopathy (still nursing my 13 month old). I got it 17 hours ago and so far just a sore injection site and muscle. I otherwise feel pretty good.

That’s great @wildcat03..I really worried about you in the early days when you were trying to get liquids in for nursing when you were working at the hospital. I remember you saying you had to guzzle large amounts of water outside because you wouldn‘t take off your mask when you were inside…I felt the pressure through your words..I know it’s not a picnic now but it’s much better now that we have our vaccines.

I also got another Moderna..It’s been working for me so far..Fingers and toes crossed every time I go into my mom’s nursing home. They had it on her floor..sigh

My husband and I both got the Pfizer yesterday. I felt pretty tired and when I went to sleep I felt cold (didn’t get the chills though) and my body felt somewhat achy/uncomfortable. Woke up feeling okay besides sore arm where the shot was. I’m have some muscle tightness around my neck/shoulder area, but I'm not sure if that’s due to the shot or my fibromyalgia which causes me to have frequent muscle spasms.

Aw, it's so kind to hear that someone worried about me. I somehow managed it! Now he's vaccinated and my older toddler is vaccinated and I can breathe a little bit more.

I'm now 24 hours past my dose and I have a sore muscle. I feel fatigued and maybe a bit headachey. I'm tired, but I worked late last night so no idea whether that is related. Overall I would say this is in line with dose 1 and dose 3 for me, which were my easiest doses. Dose 2 was my hardest by far. Dose 4 was only mildly harder than 1 and 3, so other than dose 2 I have had an easy time.

In case anyone is thinking about getting their flu shots now..my doctor said she likes to wait until November! I’m not sure I want to wait that long. Maybe mid October? What are your thoughts?

Well good news, bad news. Negative Covid test! Yay!
Bad news: paxlovid causes severe reaction at the end of treatment after you take the last dose. Common side effect; severe headache; I mean like your head will blow. Vomiting, non stop for 12 hrs and finally I got zofran. Abdominal pain, feels like someone took a claw and is pulling out my liver. I’m not sure it was worth it. Sweats/chills, another night of no sleep.
When this stops I’m free to go for another 3 months. Hooray!

I usually get mine late Sept. early Oct. but it might be affected by where you live and where flu season starts. I live in the Northeast and usually get it once it starts to get cold.

wow, I've never heard that. that's makes me pause. I assumed I'd take it but now I wonder if I should if my Covid symptoms are mild (hopefully I never find out). Based on my age I would typically take it but now I wonder.
