Sarah, I know you know this since you''ve been over on my centerpiece thread, but we''re having an outdoor ceremony as well. We have an indoor backup at the gardens which will work just fine if we need it to, so although I would prefer good weather we''ll live if it rains. Since you''ll have a backup, I say embrace the outdoor wedding and everything you can do with it. Have the string quartet, save money on decorations, and be happy your photographer will have lots of natural light to work with!

Hellooo! I love the centerpieces thread, so many great ideas! That''s so true about decorations. I agree on decorations, we don''t need much at all because it''s going to be so fancy already. Don''t want it to look corny. We are looking at using the Rose Garden pavilion which they just renovated (I guess that''s the right word) and reopens this June, so there will be literally hundreds and hundreds of roses everywhere. So I think to add anything other than maybe some simple arrangements would just be pushing it.

Well, we''re supposed to be living in ''It never rains in Southern California'', but one of my best friends weddings was in Del Mar on the beach and it rained for days leading up to her wedding and the night before I was talking to the BM''s and MOH, who were calling me, beside themselves, because Bride refused to even consider a PlanB. Seriously refused to even consider it. I begged, they begged, but bride say ''No, it''s not going to rain on my day!!'' Discussion closed!

While I was driving up to the wedding, it was raining the entire time, but the rain stopped two exits before the one for the wedding. It was freaky. At the wedding, on the beach, it was just perfect. We all saw the clouds TWO freakin'' exits away, and prayed.

It was cold as heck, but the rain never touched us. It was uncanny.

When I read all the posts in this thread it astonishes me that the weather cooperates when you need it to the most.

Although I have to say, the last wedding I went to, which happens to be in the venue we are getting married, had a power outage 2 hours before her nuptials

They had no generators. The cocktail hour was outside and the reception inside. The band, thank gawd, had generators. The venue offered to postpone the wedding until the next day...ummmmm, no, said the Bride. It was one of the most memorable weddings I have ever been to. Although we had no tray passed Whore-derves, they opened the bar

They ended up grilling all of our food on site, so it was actually better and the videographer provided the light needed inside the dark reception room for readings by the parents until the band got there. The florist ran out and brought back 300 extra candles which had the venue

due to liability, but what could they say, other than HUGE FREAKIN'' DISCOUNT?!!?!?!?!?

I say outdoor weddings ROCK!!! You never know what you''re gonna get.

As long as it''s not like 100 degrees outside (which it won''t be since it has to be at 6) then I am game!

Wow, how gorgeous! I love the architecture. Where is your venue located if you don''t mind me asking? Looks Southernish to me, but maybe not.
Actually, its in Denver. We wanted an old mansion and it and the ballroom of the Stanley hotel (the basis for the shining, seriously haunted) are the only places that aren''t really dark since everything is victorian.
We really wish we could do it in the governor''s mansion next door. They have a gazebo and a huge atrium that is done entirely in white. Unfortunately, my uncle who knows the gov won''t be able to come so we are doing it here.

I think it''s beautiful...
Governers...Schmugeners...your place is perfect!!

Everyone''s venues are incredible! Gwyn, I want to MOVE to your venue. It''s gorgeous!

Here''s ours. The photo on the far left must have been taken from the entrance to the restaurant. The brick path and the gazebo where the ceremony will take place is to the far right of that first photo.

with all the weather stories floating about, i''m reminded of something funny. some friends were scheduled to have an outdoor wedding a few years ago in this amphitheater overlooking the river, and the bride was so stoked, she was CONVINCED it would never rain on her day, so she had no plan b. it poured. POURED, and i mean it started right as everyone in the bridal party was piling out of their cars, so they all got soaked to the bone and had to run to get to shelter. luckily for them, they had buddies who worked at a nearby opera house who took pity on their situation and let them use the venue as a backup for FREE (i looked into this place as a potential venue myself because it''s absolutely gorgeous, but it was more expensive than i could ever possibly express!), so they delayed their wedding for an hour to get things together. meanwhile, all the bridesmaids and groomsmen are standing in the wings behind the stage in their undies BLOWDRYING their clothes!!! their officiant was also an hour late because she had refused to set foot in the rain and mess up her hair! they finally managed to get married amidst all the confusion, and after that were like, dude, forget this mess. let''s drink. this was years ago and everyone that knows them still talks about how much fun all the chaos was; the bride, meanwhile, still tells people she never worries about her marriage because, after a wedding like that, things can only go up, haha.

Thanks Zoe.

I love that pathway to your gazebo too! so pretty! Is that over on the east coast? Is it in NH? MA?

OMG, that''s funny!! In retrospect...
When I worked at the Sheraton, a couple was having a garden terrace wedding and someone forgot to shut off the automatic sprinkler system and they went off any everyone. I still remembering hearing the engineers on the radion all going beserk. Remember to have them turn off the auto sprinklers.
