Your Latest Jewelry Purchases/Things You're Considering....

After the coin ring and the remake of the Asscher cut natural blue Topaz with step cut traps cut by Doug Menadue of Bespoke Gems, I shall set the Supernova oval from the same mother rough.

Here is a pic of the finished stones cut from the big mother stone, I have one of the bigger Asschers at the back and the larger oval is my Supernova:

Spec of my Supernova oval:

In the box, next to the Asscher natural blue Topaz and the step cut Topaz traps, the stones are icy blue and very sparkly:

These are the inspiration ring designs, with an air gap/line halo, plain comfort shank 4mm at the top and no millgrain:

Awww thank you!! These were my favourite finds as well!

Glad to influence!! :P this guide from @Pomelo was really helpful for me when shopping around Osaka and Tokyo https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/japan-resale-shops.284639/

Personally, my favourite finds were from Vintage QOO Tokyo https://www.qoo-online.com/item/index.php?keyword=18k&st=&b=&cid=&c=&price_min=&price_max=&stock= which has branches in Osaka and Tokyo

Komehyo Shinjuku was a dream, there were such a huge selection of items, and I nearly went home with a reversible sapphire-diamond ring - still thinking about it!

GALA JEWELRY Okachimachi had a beautiful selection as well, and I really enjoyed shopping there https://alag-in.jp/p/search?sort=priority

Ueno area for walking around random jewelry shops, the pearl ring was from a shop called FIRST IMPRESSION that had friendly staff and a nice selection of loose gems and jewelry

OKURA and Watchnian in general has some nice jewelry finds as well - can’t remember which branches I’ve went to, but I liked the ones in Osaka!

Here are the things that didn’t go home with me… I think about them sometimes

Oh my goodness, that is all such eye candy! Thanks for sharing your recommendations! I'm seriously taking notes!

I am considering these star sapphires.
What do you think of them? I would appreciate your comments and advice. I haven’t seen them in person yet; the photos are from one of my jewellers at the Hong Kong Gem and Jewelry show.
@Starstruck_88 Please share your thoughts! Thank you.

The star of the second stone is not that well-defined, and the colour does not pop at me.

Definitely prefer the first ring and stone.

Definitely reject the second. The star goes the 'wrong' way - one ray almost horizontal, and not quite aligned even then. The body colour is uneven - grey with a patch of blue/purple.

The first is possible. It has attractive translucent glowy body colour. (I take it because you say star sapphire that you are looking for pink rather than red - you could certainly get redder, at a price.) The star looks sharp, but the picture is not sharp enough to tell how sharp the star really is and whether it has 'depth'. If you want to be critical, note that the top ray and lower left ray look a bit wonky.

I may be out of line to a say this. but your collection suggests that you have high standards and the budget to support them. IMO this stone is better than good, but not top. This may or may not matter to you for this purchase.

I think it’s worth seeing a video of the first one @Crimson . Have you seen star sapphires in person before?

For some reason I'm kind of wanting a simple snake ring somewhat like this. I have plenty of small unset OEC's so will probably do it.

In the works: DIAMOND VIDEO.
DK has already done 4 CAD iterations for me so I’m hoping that the 5th one is gonna be the charm. Halo is finalized, but still working on the profile and how high off the finger I want the diamond to be.

Thank you @dk168. Agree it doesn’t pop . Hope you enjoyed the musical!

Thank you Yes, I agree it is best to see it in motion..
I shall see my jeweller this week so I can inspect the pink one further.

Thank you very much, @Starstruck8 for your frank opinion. I have a small sharp double star ruby so this time I really wanted a pink star stone.
Based on your advice and that of @dk168 will reject the blue-grey star.
I am grateful for your observations about the pink store. I do find that the lines are not all equally strong. I will look at the pink ring this week so I shall keep your comments in mind. I take your point about waiting for a better stone - very wise, thank you.

I have observed that the stars look very different in pictures/video that real life. Binocular vision really changes how they look compared to viewing through a single lens. For example, my star appears to have a broken leg in pictures and in person it looks perfectly straight. There is also a depth to the asterism that you see in real life that isn’t in pictures. So I would hesitate to reject a stone based only on video for star quality issues if it had other characteristics you liked, such as color and transparency. Ideally the vendor can help you assess before making the call to see it in person.

Welcome back, @Spring Day, It’s been a while! Your ring is going to be epic! That moval is insane

What are the larger side stones? Were you able to find small matching movals? :-o
