Maybe you can take it to a jeweler to estimate how much you will get for scape metal, how much will cost you to reset it the way you like it, and weight it out. In the meantime, enjoy the huge BLING on your finger (and hold on tight so it does not fly off in excitement):)!

I might have missed it, but you said you got a real good deal on it, did you tell us how much you end up paying for it somewhere?

Hey zhu - yeah, I'm in no rush to have it re-set really, plus I couldn't really afford it atm anyway, with other projects in the works and all
5.gif

I've found from doing a little research here that we get offered a very poor scrap gold price in my city - highway robbery really! So I guess that would be a last resort..
perhaps I will re-list the mount on Ebay, without the OEC or something..

No, I hadn't mentioned what I had paid for it earlier - it was 3200 USD.

Scrap gold price is bad everywhere! I think the EBay route will get you the best return for sure!

NO WAY did you only pay $3200!!! You are SUCH A LUCKY GIRL!!!!! I am

I like to make the term "alternative ERing" an official pricescope vocabulary. This way everyone gets more excuses to buy diamond rings!!! :D

AJ what a stunning ring and how marvellous of you to get it for that price.
Just curious if you wouldn''t mind what sort of words do you put into your searches on Ebay.
I have had old mine cut and old european cut in for months but nothing like a bargain ever come up.
Is it something you just have peruse everyday?

Yeah, you may be right about the ebay route - if my Fi doesn''t want to keep it I will likely do that. Although, I am tempted to use the baguettes for a coloured gem pendant - they are surprisingly well cut and sparkly
31.gif

Ha ha, I know - I couldn''t believe it myself on the price; just for a comparable OEC alone I found an average price of 8k
6.gif
I tell you, my heart was in my throat from bidding on it until the package was delivered!

Thankyou for your congrats and sharing in my excitement zhu

I got a feeling that this seller gave AJ a HUGE discount because he couldn''t resist her charms..... (wink)

Hey katebar,
nice to see you again!

No, I don''t mind although it''s nothing too different I''m sure to what you are doing - I just put in any of the variations -
old european diamond
old mine cut
old miner
old cut diamond
OMC
and sometimes vintage or antique diamond / diamond ring.
You may also try the above, but with spelling mistakes - I haven''t done this, but that''s how some find hidden treasures apparently.

To be honest, it sounds funny but I think this OEC was meant to find me - I actually wasn''t actively looking or shopping at all. I was just browsing for about half an hour one day before going to class - this listing was the last one I opened, before I was about to log off.
For that size and price I was expecting a dog and almost didn''t bother opening it, so was pretty darn excited when I realized it was legit. I also found the listing just in time to ask the seller to lower the reserve, which he did.
I was completely shocked when I won it for the reserve, and nobody bid against me - I was really expecting to be outbid! I think I got lucky as the photos were unattractive, but I saw the potential there and asked a lot of questions...

Anyway, sorry that doesn''t help you really does it?!
I just posted about this in another thread, and it''s great for finding hidden sellers/treasures on ebay, plus save you the time of sifting through endless listings..go here and sign up for the newsletter - they will send you each week the most popular listings in that category, eg. art nouveau and deco jewellery.

Below is one of the photos from the ebay listing for this ring - as you can see, not really what it looks like IRL! So I guess I would also say, take chances *if* you are confident in the seller and your own judgement of the piece - the ones that are photographed perfectly sell accordingly in my experience!

Wow!!! What a find!!!
30.gif

3200 for one of the prettiest OECs I''ve ever seen ... oh my STARS and GARTERS! AJ, that is a steal of a deal, and good on you for spotting it and following through.

I''d honestly recommend selling the setting separately on eBay: you''ll get more that way then you would for scrap. Or, if you have a random gem lying around that you wouldn''t mind sacrificing to the cause ...?

It''s so beautiful, lucky girl for finding that.

aww, that''s very kind thankyou circe! Yes, I feel very lucky that I came across this deal for sure.

Thanks for your input on the setting, I''m sure you are right..I do have one or two gems that would fit the mount, but the mount won''t fit me - I''m sure that 5 - 6 sizes down is too much for a channel set
2.gif

I am thinking about one other option - using the materials to off-set the cost of a current or future project...I will just have to see if my vendor is able to do so.
But honestly, it''s not a big deal -I mean I practically got the 13.5g of gold and the baguettes for free, I guess I could look at it that way right?!

Thanks again

I suppose I will just update this thread when I have decided what to do..would that be breaching policy though? I don't want to do that..

And I will tell my Fi you said so - I agree it would be lovely with a sapphire (they are his favourite), I''ve always enjoyed YG with blue sapphs..
It may take a decent while to find / afford one of the correct size though - and it will end up being larger than my sapphire anni ring - is that allowed?? he he he
41.gif
17.gif

We will see...he is pretty non-committal about jewellery, and would just as soon wear a plain band..
Do you think it too blingy / excessive for a combined ering/w-ring for a guy?
