That OEC is drop-dead gorgeous! And the baguettes are pretty too .. lucky girl!

What a beautiful find!

As for using the band for a wedding band for your fiance and being concerned it is too flashy as referred to in a couple of your posts), all depends on his comfort level! Just as with e-rings, it all depends on what he individually feels comfortable with and can pull off!

While most wedding bands are a lot simpler....my DH has quite a blingy band himself with diamond and sapphire pave all across the front into a mosaic-like pattern, and he loves it - and gets a lot of compliments on it from both men and women. It fits with his personality and taste for things a little ornate and with a Middle Eastern vibe.

I think it looks GREAT on your fiances hand. It is a very masculine ring and very much makes a statement. It will likely attract attention. He may or may not be comfortable with that!

Yowza.

Here is a vendor photo of what my own husbands wedding ring is like...it is originally a woman''s ring design I guess but we had them custom make one in his size for him as a man''s ring. As you can see - it is very flashy compared to the usual man''s wedding band. Again, he loves it and gets complimented on it a lot. Believe it or not, this was one of the less flashy ones he was looking at...ha!

I do not have any idea what to do with the ring / baguette diamonds

GOrgeous thing! I love it.

Have another look at this pic (4th one down). Now picture it without the gold around it - would that not make a stunning setting for a ring? Just the baguette band
with the centre stone?

that's a beautiful OEC - congrats on a great deal :)

ACK! Its even more beautiful than I imagined or hoped (for you) it would be!

CONGRATS on a fab find AJ - I know you''ve been wanting an old cut for so long now

I would personally take the baggs out and use them for a matched set of bands - an eternity band for you, and a simple band with the baggs either channel set (not always my favorite look, but done well, it could be gorgeous) or scattered, for the FI.

And recycle the gold into a plain thin hammered band that you can wear on days when you dont want to wear any bling but still want a little sumthin'' on your finger. It can also serve as a stacker, or a spacer.

Aaahh, you can tell I have NOT put MUCH thought into this, right?

Wear in much love, great health, and tons of happiness for always!

Wow, that is a huge, stunning (CHEAP!!) amazing diamond!! The ring itself is so not my style, but WOW the potential for the diamond and baguettes is enormous! I can''t wait to see what you do with it!

It''s lovely!

Wow! It''s gorgeous and what an amazing deal. Can''t wait to see how you end up setting it.

Nice find, you did well! It''s gorgeous

Awesome!

I too would take the bags out and make a ring for you and one for your FI, like Grace suggested.

I wish I could have smelled that rose too (not because of its great smell, but because it would put me face up with that gorgeous bling). Hot Whoa!

HI:

Cool find!

cheers--Sharon

i really am so happy for you, this stone has found a great home!!

Arjunajane, you''ve done it again, love! That is a beyond fabulous diamond. I adore the patterning and as usual, your pictures are breathtaking!

Did I miss it, or do you already have plans for this baby?

Also, if you''re looking for something to do with the baguettes, I''ll buy them from you!

That''s a GORGEOUS stone, AJ! Wow.

I would put the OEC in a James Meyer bezel, and then I''d make an eternity band out of those baguettes.

Whatever you do, that stone is a STUNNER!

Wear it in good health and great love!

No hard feelings at all AJ! I actually won my own prize off Ebay recently. Once I get it, I''ll know for sure what I got - but fingers crossed it''s as nice as yours.

Hi AJ,
I''m a bit of lurker but still am here!
Thanks yet again for a very helpful reply
You always have such an eye for a deal but importantly your choice of designs etc are phenomenal.
Can''t wait to see what you do with this!

Hey everyone, thankyou for your lovely comments!

I do have a PS confession to make, as I wouldn''t want to mislead anyone:

So I had a jeweller remove the diamond from the setting this arvo, and he told me the weight is 1.53cts "give or take"..at first, I didn''t really trust him as he seemed very hurried and disinterested..He also suggested I have it recut as a modern RB!
38.gif

Next, I took my stone to the "premier" jeweller in my neighborhood and sat with the woman for about 45mins whilst she inspected my stone, discussed settings etc..
She weighed it and it officially is 1.55cts - of course, at first I felt a pang of disappointment at this; however, as the two women in the store kept fawning over the stone, commenting on what a fabulous cut and how clean the diamond is for one this age, what a huge size, how lucky I am to own it, etc...I soon felt good again
1.gif

After all, it is still *at least* 50-60% or so off retail, not counting the gold and baguettes in the equation...so, I am a very happy chappy and not concerned about it.
5.gif

I am not sure why the appraiser was so off, as he was very accurate for everything else...I think he may have had some mis-guided formula for calculating weight of old cuts..

The second jeweller did verify for me it is the correct colour and clarity, and the stone officially measures 7.3mm x 7.4mm x 4.52mm. And it has no damage to the girdle or elsewhere, which I am very happy about.
She also confirmed the baguettes are as stated and was impressed with the cut of them - she was very enthusiastic about me recycling the baguettes in the setting for the OEC, so we brainstormed a few ideas but nothing concrete yet..

In the end, I am still 110% happy with my purchase, but I guess this supports that great PS adage "trust but verify" !
