You also have that pretty red asscher, and that oval from the group photo isn''t bad either...

Cellantani it''s very very pretty and, I''m with others, in saying that the inclusion is just natures way of screaming "I''m real"! It''s not intrusive so nothing to worry about.

Does it fluoresce? Do you have a UV light to play with?

Can I also ask that you post the group shot again with stats please? You have an awesome collection and a number of very interesting cuts.

Actually, on a side note, they are synthesizing red/pink spinel and it not only looks very real, but it grows just like the natural kind (same crystal formation), and it also has inclusions. Therefore, never buy a red spinel unless it comes with a reputable lab cert or you know where you got it from. Of course Gary knows his source, and that''s fine, but inclusions are not necessarily a determination of natural. The "types" of inclusions (in the case of red spinel) are.

Thanks everyone for your great comments and reassurances! It''s finally sunny today, so more pics will be forthcoming!

blinky
- thanks for posting the Leon setting, you troublemaker! I''m sure traps would look amazing.

LovingDiamonds - I don''t have a UV light (bad PSer!), but Gary said it does fluouresce. I''ll take another photo of my stone lineup and post all the info for you today.

haagen_dazs - I''m not sure what you''d call that kind of inclusion - anybody else know??

TL - very interesting about the synthetics

Cellatini - that is one stunning spinel!!!! I''m loving the size and cut of it! Lovely colour, too!

Can''t wait to see how you set it!

Very pretty color!

That is GORGEOUS!! The inclusion looks like a facet so I think it blends in rather lovely! Besides, it helps you know that the stone belongs to you!!

I can''t stop taking photos - the color is just phenomenal!

lovely spinel Cellentani, I want one!

From left to right:

1) Barry Bridgestock: 7.7x10mm, supernova pink tourmaline (beautiful color, but finicky to photograph - always looks brown)
2) Gary Braun: Mahenge spinel
3) Bob Kast: rubellite tourmaline, 5mm
4) Bob Kast: JXR amethyst (I purchased the rough and had this cut)
5) Bob Kast: SI3 cushion cut morganite (the reflections of the inclusions bounce around the stone, making a circular pattern)
6) Gene Flannigan: 3.46ct Pakistani peridot, cut in his star80 pattern
7) Bob Kast: 8.6mm, natural white topaz, cushion Americana cut
8) Dan Stair: 8.97mm, spess garnet, square step cut pav, scissor cut crown

Cellentani,
I''m the same way with some stones!! That''s how you know you love them!! I''m enjoying your pictures so much. You are a great gem photographer, and the pink on the spinel really pops!! BTW, is your new rubellite more of a reddish color, or more pink?

Nice collection, that full sun photo of the spinel is AMAZING
