I have to say I'm not the least bit crazy about the small purple pear. I think the pink you have right now blows that one to the dust. I do love the orange though.
I agree with TL. I like your pink much better than the purple pear. I think the orange is nice.

You definitley need an orange or strong yellow to balance out the blues. Id also search for a cushion or maybe a radiant too just to keep the shapes varied as well.

I also vote orange - the pink you already have is so amazing that the "purple" doesn't have a chance to shine.

I still say yellow. :cheeky:

orange orange orange - that pear was lovely and if that is the one rock hugger was talking about eyeing seriously then that's a real green light since she knows her onions..... and her stones.

This is fun... you spend and we get vicarious thrills and cute dogs - coooool
:appl:

Hmm, they just got in a violet, a color that is very hard to find.
Purple, which leans towards red, is much more common than violet, which leans towards blue.

Violet is so rare that Steve Hofer did not even include it as one of the primary hues in his landmark book on colored diamonds because he had never seen one at that point.
I think I read he has since seen one and if he wrote the book today violet would be included.

It does have a gray modifier but at least it is only grayish and not gray, and gray is mentioned first before violet.
There are four possible combinations of the two colors:

violetish gray
violet gray
gray violet
grayish violet

This diamond has the most violet of the four combinations, and it shows in the price per carat.

Thanx, I fixed it.

I still say orange or yellow. You asked in the thread for us to go with what looks good as a collection and not just rarity. Seems your straying from your own guidance. You need some warmer colors in your collection.

True, but I didn't say I have decided on the violet over the orange.
I'm just examining all the options and a new one just popped up.

I think unless you have Oprah or Bill Gates's budget a collection is a collection of the collectors many conflicting and competing desires.
One consideration is to seize the opportunity to grab a color that is not often seen, like when I grabbed that round green.
I think both the orange and the violet, while not the slam dunk from the other side of the basketball court with one second on the clock that the green was, they are both worthy of consideration.

Adding warm colors like orange and yellow WILL "balance" this collection if the desire is to represent the entire color wheel.
Adding the violet will enrich it as a collection of the cooler colors.
Neither is right or wrong.
While most feel adding the orange is the way to go, a few felt (if I may paraphrase) that the orange was too different or may stick out like a sore thumb without other in-between colors added to the collection.

A pure orange does not often show up but this violet may be an even more unique opportunity.
Plus I have an affinity for round, emerald and asscher shapes, which do not amp up the color.
If one of these was an emerald or asscher cut there would be no contest.
If the violet was pure violet at that price there would be no contest.
Decisions decisions. :?:

true dat
and a gnarly uncut pink crystal will expand the collection's geometric diversity!

True dat!
I do really love that 0.45 ct pink rough.
I think eventually I'll add a rough crystal or two.

I think this color would compete with your blues, especially your deep blue. However, if you want it because it is an extremely rare color, that's a different story.

It's pretty, but the carbon spots bother me...

I wonder if this will look darker in person? For it's rarity, I would definitely get it for a look (subject to Leibish confirming it's not too dark). Oranges and yellows can be picked up anytime!

I also agree with TL though that whether it compliments the other colours in your collection is debatable. However, from a rarity point of view it certainly adds to it.

Have you considered this one? It's lighter and you'd save yourself enough money to buy an orange as well!

I'm surprised at the colour grading on this one - I'm not sure I'd agree that it's more grey than violet especially if you compare to some of the others!

Here's how it would look.

I prefer this combo compared to the other one.
I think orange will look good with it - are you planning on getting more for that collection?

Agree.

I suspect they are not carbons spots but gunk they didn't clean off for the pic.
I'd definitely find out before pulling the trigger.

Carbon spots in a stone that small and that color would not be eye visible unless you had superpowers.

Kenny, were you hear when I told the story about the 4.25 carat VS1 GIA certified radiant cut natural fancy deep grayish violet I got to play with at Harry Winston in Honolulu? That was fun :naughty:

Oh my!
What a rarity.
Did you slip it into your pocket and take off running? :Up_to_something: :Up_to_something:

Violet. Then you have green, blue green, blue, violet, pink. Filling in the spectrum as it were.

THEN you'll just need orange and yellow and you'll be done!

Still, the violet is where it's at for me.

And glad you sent back the yellow heart as well. It was too big. (ACK! Sacrilege!)

It reminds me of a violet spinel, doesn't it? :naughty:

no way lol! but the women there were absolutely lovely! I told them up front I was simply a gemstone nut that wanted to look around. They closed the store for me and let me spend 15 minutes with that beauty. When I am able, I will buy something there! I don't know what lol, but something!

That it does TL. That it does. :P
