Anxious to get the engagement ring

Well, I''ve always been partial to RB''s (my mom''s was an RB, grandma''s is an RB, mom''s new one is an RB, you get the point), and since I don''t want a big diamond, I want a lot of sparkle/presence to it. Quite simply, a RB is the best cut for maximum sparkle, so that''s basically how I''ve decided. However, I''ve got 9 other fingers, 2 ears with 2 piercings each, and a neck that can experiment with all the other gorgeous shapes later (cushion, asscher, radiant, princess, regent, oval.....)!!! And keep in mind that you can upgrade later, or get another e-ring-looking ring in a different shape so you can mix and match. Check out didiamond''s gorgeous collection (somewhere in the SMTR folder I think)!! She''s got RB''s, pears, lots of shapes in e-ring-like settings that you could have tons of fun with.

Firerock - Ill make going through and adding the crossed off names back my weekend project. That would be kinda cool to have a record of as well!

Yane - Im getting ready to go home right now and i have a pretty skinny ring on my finger today. Just a cheapy thing i got for christmas last year, but ill take a pic and show you. The skinny bands help the diamond look bigger as well which is why i got so excited that they looked good!

That is a great way to think of it. Often we focus on our wedding finger, we forget we have other body parts to dress them up with sparkles too.

You''re right, this site is very very addictive! I can''t even believe the amount of time I''ve spent here instead of doing actual lab work.
6.gif

Yanekie- choosing the shape of my stone took a while. Going in I''d always seen myself with a nice RB, 6-prong Tiffany setting. Then BF said he liked squares better, and everyone I know has a round so I decided I wanted something different. Next on the list was princess, but as soon as I saw one in person I thought it was too busy looking for me. I think it wasn''t the nicest quality though because the well-cut princesses on this site will knock your socks off. On to square brilliants (GOG website was very helpful here!)... Dreams were nice but pricey, for a while I was totally enamored with Lucere but the $14k price tag on a .8 gave me reservations [$$)][$$)]. And I ultimately decided that I preferred being able to see the geometry of the facets rather than being blinded by sparkle.

And thus, my Asscher
30.gif
I think it''s perfect for me because the facets are easy to see, but it also has great light performance. I have the Sarin data and BrillianceScope info at home, don''t remember off the top of my head. All I know is the appraiser said it was the sparliest emerald she''d seen.

Me too... I''m trying to deny the results of my last experiment (sitting in the cupboard where I can''t see them). I''m distracting myself online. Allegedly I''m BLASTing sequences online... ncbi is, uh.. really REALLY slow today..yeah..

Cross your fingers for me that it''s this weekend, girls... I really don''t know how much longer I can take before I snap and do something psychotic and counterproductive! He''s had the ring for OVER A MONTH NOW!!!!

Huh. Ive never signed on using my Mac at home. Im usually at work on a PC. I dont have all the cool text editor stuff.
8.gif
Oh well...

So here is the ring i was talking about earlier. Id say its 2mm wide. And just for fun i decided to add a little diamond just to tease myself even more! Funny that the pictures make my finger look really short cause theyre not. But it was fun practice for taking pictures of the real ring! Also glad the b/f decided to take a break from his work and went out of the room so i could add the diamond... i didnt want him to know that i have officially gone ering crazy!!!

Hey girls. I''ve missed a bit! I have been babysitting my nieces and nephew for the last few days.. will be here til sunday afternoon. I feel totally like Kate Hudson in that Raising Helen movie.. I''m such a disaster trying to get everyone to school on time and i feel like I''m sending the kids looking like homeless children.

Tybee- I don''t know if I''m a size tiny.. i probably will wear about a size 6 wedding gown. I''m just so jealous that you live near my gown! Why don''t I live near my gown? You''ll have to let us know how your trip to solomon brothers goes!!

Kaya - Your ring is GORGEOUS! Thanks for the pic!

Jen - I had this discussion in another thread.. WHY IS WEGMANS SO EXCITING? There are two fairly nice ones around here, I''ll go to them if I am in the area.. but I won''t drive out of my way to get there. i just don''t think they''re that great. I can''t believe it would be nationally known.

JCJD - Congrats on your ring shopping trip. Isn''t the first trip so exciting?? My first experience was in a Kay''s about 2 years ago with my best friend, and the crazy salesman was telling us how we must insist on getting a full carat diamond, and we should''t accept anything less than that.. and here we were.. 21 or so years old.. and he''s telling us we need a carat.. I almost fainted when he put a 1 ct marquise on my finger.. I''m glad you found the perfect size for you.

firerock.. I''ll try to recreate the list!!

woah, the list is long, was the strikeouts hard to do?

Thanks ladies, yeah i like my ring too, considering I chose it and the stone with my bf at the time, its really nice to wear and to wear forever, I like that. I''m busy planning a wedding now, since I''m getting married in January and moving countries, so lots to do.

yanekie25- yeah it is a michael b lace ring- but the petite lace ring.

Oh my..that is gorgeous!

It reminds me of champagne bubbles

Congratulations on your Jan. wedding and good luck with the moving..I know how much of a pain it can be..I just can''t imagine how much of a pain by moving countries...

Wow, such a pretty setting

Congrats kaya, beautiful ring! ChooChoo, keeping my fingers and toes crossed!

I really wish there was a board similar to this for wedding planning! People say theknot.com, but it is no where near the support and helpfulness there is here at PS. Great Job on the list MelissaSue!

Funny how I should be planning for the wedding but I still find myself wandering here hoping to see more sparklies!
face23.gif

have a great weekend! and hope to see good news on Monday!

tulipcloud - I''m with you! I still check in to PS everyday. I have started looking at dresses, locations and many other options.
But i can''t seem to leave PS. We might be forever hooked on PS!! We are all diamond-holics!!

tulipcloud--try ultimatewedding.com. Their forums are at weddingchat.com but I don''t know if you''ll be able to read without registering. They seem to be wonderfully supportive and helpful. As for theknot, I think you''ll have better luck with the local boards than the general boards.

yanekie25--How did I decide what shape? Well, it went something like this: originally, I wanted a princess, but was concerned by the talk about it being one of the less-brilliant cuts. So I went into a jewelry store to compare, and wow... I can''t even describe the difference between the princess and the rb, and they were at equal cut grades. The rb just blew it away.

While I love square shapes, throwing out the princess leaves me with cushions, Jubilees and similar branded cuts (Queen of Hearts, Lucerne, etc.). The branded cuts are out of my price range, and to be quite frank, there''s a LOT of work that goes into finding a fabulous square cushion. (I''m less fond of the less-brilliant, step-cut-style squares.) I DO want to be blinded by sparkle, like jcjd, because I''ll be sporting a smaller stone, and that will help it to have some serious presence. I wanna see rainbows!!
30.gif

So. I was looking at the cushion, which would take hours of researching, learning, looking for candidates, shipping the stone in, comparing to thirty other stones, et cetera....and I know my poor SO really isn''t THAT into diamonds to want to do all that work.
2.gif
So I decided the RB, which is the most brilliant cut, anyway, would be my best choice since it would be so much easier for him to pick a good one. Instead of comparing angles and percentages, he just looks at the AGS grading. :)

However, ten years from now when I''ve won the Arizona lottery and am rolling in millions, I will be buying a Jubilee.
30.gif

It won''t be this weekend
7.gif
Just buy me some sort of lifer pin... I''ll be here for years, greeting new generations.

My heart stopped for a few seconds there when I saw your name choochoo. I just got done painting over 20 2x2 wood for our patio cover in the back yard and thought cool i have some good news to read up on. But I'M SORRY CHOOCHOO this weekend isn't the weekend for you. Don't give up, don't let that get to ya... he just might be planning something incredible for you. (guys are funny that way)

Aww, Choochoo, I was hoping for some good news too.

Somebody better come back from this weekend with some blang-blang!!

Heh, heh, so I was at the mall with the bf and we passed by my favorite el cheapo ring kiosk, so naturally I had to stop and ogle the czs. While checking out the solitaires, he pointed out a giant blue cz in a six-prong solitaire setting and mentioned he liked the color. I said, "Oh, I like that it''s a six-prong" and he says, "Yes, I know you do."

At which point my head whips around and I say "What do you mean, you know I like the six-prong???????!!!" all shocked, because frankly, up til now, I wasn''t sure he''d paid any attention at all to the things I mentioned liking. So he feigns ignorance ("Six prong? What''s a six prong? What''s a prong?") just being funny, and I''m asking him what else he knows I like, but he won''t say, just smiles.

Hmmmm....SNEAKY SNEAKY!!!!
2.gif

Just wanted to share. A little affirmation that maybe he''s thinking about it more than I think he is. :)

Choo-Choo - I''m rooting for you!! Don''t do anything drastic to your b/f
2.gif
12.gif
We''re here for you!

goldengirl - EEEEEK!!!!! Boys DO pay attention!!!! Congratulations on your sneak-peek into your boyfriend''s head! Just don''t freak out now and pile the pressure back on (I''m guilty...)! Ummm, yeah, if that''s possible...
2.gif
But congrats again!

OK, yet ANOTHER couple younger than me got engaged last week. And they''ve only been dating for FOUR MONTHS!!!!!!!!!!!! I swear, if another couple dating for just over a nanosecond gets engaged before me, I''m going to throw something!
38.gif
38.gif
38.gif

What was the worst for me about this engagement was this: Apparently, the guy asked her parents for their blessing a month before he proposed (yep, after 3 months of dating), to which a friend responds, "Well, I guess when you know, you know." I was just like, we''ve known for almost 3 YEARS, and it STILL hasn''t happened yet!!!! Depressing!
39.gif

So then, I had a "sob" session with the b/f, again, and this time I found out that if he''d had the money (i.e., a job), we''d have been engaged a year ago! And married by now! And he still insists on buying me a stupid rock (Sorry, sacrilege on a diamond forum), and refuses to propose without one! And he knows and understands that I don''t want a ring if it means I have to wait even longer to be engaged!! And, he doesn''t know if he''s going to have a ring by Thanksgiving (Uh, I mean Valentine''s Day
3.gif
) anymore. Ugh. Progress last week, backwards this week. This pre-engagement stress really sucks! I can''t imagine what pre-wedding stress is like! I think I''ll try to get on For Better or For Worse on TLC... put the stress on somebody else for entertainment purposes. But at least now I can blame the delay in my engagement on outsourcing - Thanks President Bush!
29.gif

JCJD,

Sounds like it was a frustrating weekend for you. Mine was similar (without the friend getting engaged), with tears and a BIG TALK with my sweety. Guess it was important for us, though. He needed to know that the ring isn''t the most important part, but for me time is (I ain''t getting any younger.) He thought that he needed to wait until he could get the perfect diamond (finances have been our trouble too.)

The good news is, we may be more on track now. We''ve both agreed that less than a carat would be better for all involved. It feels better to be dealing more in reality now.

Still waiting, but less unhappy.
Hoping the best for all of you.

Choo Choo - You must be so frustrated. Waiting for an engagement ring is not something that''s easy to be patient with. Any idea what might be the hold up?

This weekend was a good one for me. My BF took me ring shopping for the second time and I picked out my setting. So now the rest is up to him. I know the diamond is the part that takes the longest so it will still be a while, but it is exciting that the process is under way. We are still debating whether or not to purchase online. There''s no doubt you can get a better deal online, but my bf is still a little iffy on the concept. I''m hopeful that after he does more research he''ll realize it''s not any more risky than purchasing from a local jeweler. We''ll see though.

Now that I''ve picked out the setting though I can see that I''m getting even more impatient. I hope I can keep myself under control!

Thanks for adding all the names back in the list Melissa!

Choo Choo, tybee, & JCJD - sorry to hear your weekends werent so hot! Choo, i agree with everyone else that he is just trying so hard to make it perfect and thats why its taking so long! We're here for ya girl!
12.gif
For Better or For Worse sounds like a good option to me too JCJD!

TLMD & GG - Glad to hear of yalls good news... all steps forward!

So i had my hand checked twice this weekend. One was a good friend i hadnt seen in a couple months, and i was okay with that one... it was done in a humorous manner. The other was at a halloween party friday night by a girl ive only met twice. When i told her how long me and the b/f had been dating, she immediatly grabbed my hand and gave me a big frown. What is up with the frown?

But on a happy note, the b/f mentioned that he thought my ring should be coming in this week! But im trying to not get my hopes up too much. Ive read too much about others experiences and additional delays. So before turkey day hopefully! And i also reminded him that he cant tease me! That if he tells me he has it (which i have a feeling he will, he is horrible at secrets and surprises!) he cant wait long to give it to me. I also mentioned that our apartment was too small to hide it somewhere i wouldnt find it!
11.gif
9.gif

I didn''t make the scratched off list. It''s like I never existed at all! Sadness. I was anxious back in July. I have no idea what page that is on, but getting my ring certainly didn''t stop me from lurking around this (and all) Pricescope threads.

I feel for all you ladies still waiting, This forum was a lifesaver.

Thanks ladies for all your input. Goldengirl, I totally felt your response. I was kinda leaning to the RB for simplicity, but I think being in NY, BF can find a good square cushion. He doesn''t like to shop, so I feel you on the experience waning on him. I think if I send him one more post from here, he will freak. I just wanted something unique and the princess did nothing for me.

njc, thanks for the hands shots. I totally feel you on making the diamond stand out more. I just hate the wrinkles on my knuckles.
7.gif
, so I am not sure. SO went to diamond district on Friday, and picked some settings he wants me to try on. I am trying to get out there this week.

JCJD, I totally feel your plight. Been there done that. BF''s not into rings and all that stuff, so he would have proposed ages ago, but of course I kept stressing the ring. We ending up finding great middle ground, and we both got what we wanted, well not yet, but we are on the same page. I totally feel you. Hang in there.

tulipcloud, have you tried wedding channel. It''s more journals than boards, but its great to put all your ideas in one place.

Heh, so we''re hanging out Saturday night and he''s asking me about the boards I frequent (they would be PS, ultimatewedding.com, and occasionally theknot.com) since besides pricescope, he doesn''t know the names of any of them. I don''t want to tell him, a little because he might see me venting, and a little because I''m embarrassed for all the planning I''ve been doing pre-e. So I tell him I don''t want to share because he''ll make fun of my pre-e planning. (Which he would, but only because he loves me.) And he says it''s perfectly natural for a girl to plan her wedding, girls do it from the time they''re about 5. And I say yes, but that''s a vague, in-general kind of wedding, not a specific-wedding-with-a-specific-person and I don''t want to freak him out or make him think I''m pushing.

He insists he won''t get freaked out and wants to know what I''ve decided on so far. I tell him no hard-and-fast decisions except about my flowers and he won''t get any say in that, anyway, but the rest is up for discussion since it''s his day, too. He says he doesn''t care much and he wants it to be my special princess day
20.gif
and what would I have if I could have anything?

So I start talking about my ideal wedding (colors, possible venues, flowers, etc) and he''s pretty much in agreement with everything I''m saying. He''s a party-pooper about me wanting an outdoor ceremony ("Okay, but the Ohio valley is infamous for its unpredictable weather!") but otherwise we''re on the same page. Which makes me very happy because we''ll both get exactly what we want. :)

But mostly I just thought it was sweet that he wanted to talk about it. :) I''m pretty much zipped about anything wedding/engagement related although I do still talk about the future (ie, "When we buy a house I''m painting the kitchen green"). So I thought it was nice that he brought it up. :)

JCJD--definitely avoiding re-applying the pressure!! If I feel the need for a minor freak-out you guys''ll be the first to know!! ;)

JCJD-

Here''s a little commiseration for you. This weekend I went to a wedding of a couple who''s been dating less time than BF and I have. That would be the second wedding like that in one month, but I think I have achieved a Zen-like state about the whole situation. I was a little bummed when they got engaged, mostly jealous of the fawning over the ring and how excited and happy they were. Strangely, I was also wishing that my relationship was so on fire with passion and commitment that engagement would come 6 months after first date. Which is totally ridiculous because I''m the one who wanted to wait for awhile!

But now that I know my ring is on the way (less than 2 weeks till E-day
9.gif
9.gif
) I just enjoy the delicious secret we''re keeping from all our friends and family. Like when anyone asks what we''ve been up to, we have to say "Oh, nothing much" but he''s been designing and modeling settings and I''ve been glued to pricescope

I completely understand what you mean. I had to keep it a secret for months b/c the ring was just taking forever. But in the end it was fun to finally BURST and share the good news.
