Are you worried about the Coronavirus?

Now in my county along with all schools ...theaters, gyms and non essential businesses are suggested to close. Gas stations, medical buildings all stay open.

Do you have documented cases close by? That is definitely a serious lock down.

My entire county is on lock down. Creepy to be honest. We live near Philadelphia so this is a bustling county.

We have several cases in neighboring counties. I wish schools would close here but no such luck. They did cancel all field trips, sports, after school activities, etc. but it’s not enough IMO. Why are they so reluctant to close? Many parents here are furious.

Parents in my area are split between furious they were open and furious they are now closing. They argue that not all parents can work from home and not all parents have childcare available. They also argue that not everyone has laptops or internet at home. (Absolutely crazy as most districts here provide laptops and the first district to close provided wifi hotspots to the handful of students who needed.) They also argue that it isn't fair for the kids who don't get hot meals except at school (our districts are scrambling to figure out how to provide food for the kids and their families who need it). It also isn't fair because special needs kids IEP/504/etc can't learn online so other kids would get access to further learning while they would get behind.

Anyway, the districts here are scrambling to address all of those.

@cmd2014 I think you are in my area, maybe.

I don't believe Africa is reporting proper numbers. Possibly it's not even possible for it to do so. There is no racial immunity. And there's no way the US has only 1100 cases either. I don't think the numbers matter anymore. Social distancing is the new reality. Do it as soon as possible. That is how China got it's outbreak under control, and is something western countries are more hesitant to do. Or it's just impossible, because people don't trust in their governments to make the tough calls.

I've been getting update emails from businesses, both local and national, about what they are doing in re the virus. But I just got one from Regal Cinemas about how they are combating it in their theaters. I'm certainly not going to sit in a movie theater with a bunch of other people I don't know. The impact on the economy will be terrible on all levels.

Yes, parents are really freaking out here. Why aren't schools closing? Why are they considering closing? Why haven't they closed yet? We should have a new governor, how could they even think about closing? Why are we always the last school to close? Will the work from home count? Why won't it count? How could it not count? It better count because school can't end on June 30th! Why hasn't the school prepared work for the kids to work on from home yet? Other districts have done it. Why do our kids always suffer? I can't teach my kid from home? My kid is going to be bored on an iPad all day long? Lots of people home school! I can't home school! I'm going to email the school - they better not close. I'm going to email the school - they haven't closed yet!?

Our Rabbi just sent a message to all of the members. Services will be streamed (including Shabbat services) and minyans will be prearranged. They are encouraging people to stay home. School is closed and directions for online learning will follow soon. Adult education is cancelled indefinitely. Events are cancelled and may be rescheduled. Blood drive will still take place due to critically low blood supply.

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — President Trump says he's not concerned after hearing that a top aide to the president of Brazil contracted coronavirus.

An official statement from the office of President Jair Bolsonaro, stated the leader's communication director, Fabio Wajngarten, tested positive for the virus, five days after the Brazilian delegation met and dined with President Trump at Mar-a-Lago.

I've posted in real time in the other thread.
President Macron just announced drastic measures to slow down the virus.

Good for you guys.
Honestly being aggressive is good math. The earlier, quicker, and more effectively you stop people from interacting to spread it the better you chances are of curbing it.

The Us seems to be reacting to numbers getting high to start closing things down. Pair that with ineffective testing and identification.. well...I’m preparing for the next few weeks to have some alarming numbers.

My daughter in law is a teacher in my son’s school district. She just sat in a district meeting where they basically said they will only do cleaning and social distancing. She said they will keep up PR appearances but really, very little will be done.

My family will now have to sit down and decide whether or not to pull my son from school and homeschool.

What flavor are you talking about?

I'm partial to Swiss Vanilla Almond but since you're sharing your kisses, I'll bring you any flavor you desire. Keep in mind I'll have to fly to your part of the country and then stay in isolation for at least two weeks at which point your ice cream will have melted if I haven't eaten it first. Geez, life is tough

I was so busy buying supplies that I forgot my chocolate kisses!! :(

I just posted in the other thread about how I have contacted my congressman and two senators. I wish that everyone would do so. I think that a task force to prepare hospitals should be set up instantly. Its missuon should be to find new space where ICU beds can be set up; to recruit staff; and to find and/or make ventilators. We have at least one week. This is a national disaster. Everyone should be mobilized. The National Guard should be called out. We do not need the loss of life Italy is seeing.

Panic has finally hit here, even though we didn't have a single confirmed case in the area until just this morning. I'm annoyed. I'm in health care, and while we are well stocked up with hand sanitizer, we are quickly running out of cleaning supplies for our clinic. It's a little crazy. Even our commercial supply companies can't provide us with disinfectant wipes anymore, and there's not a single Lysol wipe to be found in any store in town. Fortunately, there's still beach and J cloths/paper towels (even though there's no TP), so we will mix up a spray solution and we'll make do. Store shelves here are completely bare of TP, hand sanitizer, and disinfectant cleaning supplies (mostly the convenience products like the wipes; the spray stuff is all still there as is lots of bleach).

I have been slowly stocking up my pantry. Nothing major, just a little here and there to make sure that we have staples like flour, sugar, oatmeal, rice, and pasta, as well as some canned stuff (mostly tomatoes) and coffee. I did buy some powdered milk just in case. I hate black coffee. And a few chocolate bars.

@cmd2014 - I was at Safeway in our area yesterday and there were stacks and stacks of toilet paper and paper towels everywhere. I guess they were getting ready for a rush. Most essentials were still on the shelf. I don’t know what it is like today because this was before the announcement of the first confirmed case. My husband was at the Co-op today and he said it was unusually busy.

My husband thought I was nuts when I bought a 6 pack of Clorox wipes at Costco the last time. He’s not thinking that now.

If this helps inform your decision, covid 19 seems to be very mild in children (possibly asymptomatic). The biggest benefit from homeschool would be limiting the chances of him getting it and spreading it to others in the family.

Our schools are all closing down on Friday. Teachers were not informed. Not just regions near outbreaks. All schools.

I just heard this too. How were teachers NOT INFORMED???

Talking a friend now and he has no idea if he will be paid or what. He found out from a news notification on his phone.

My sister is an elementary school teacher.
We are in a state that has confirmed COVID19 cases.
She is on a field trip with 300 children and some parents who are chaperoning.
What happening to “flattening the curve”, so as not to overwhelm our health care system?!?!?!?!

I hope this helps someone............I tried all day yesterday and three hours this morning, trying to place an order with Vitacost.
They are having major technical issues with online ordering.
I was finally able to speak to a customer service representative, and had to place my order through her.
Thankfully, Vitacost honored a 20% online discount coupon that I was emailed a couple of weeks ago.

Disney California is closing. I have not yet heard about Florida.

We just got word that our school district is closed for at least 2 weeks. We are at the cabin in Arkansas for spring break and plan to stay here. DH is working from here, thank goodness. I guess we will find out if we truly like life in the woods! 3 weeks! I hope we can handle the togetherness!

NYC’s Broadway unprecedentedly darkened until mid April, all museums closed.

Both of my kids are working from home, not mine...though DD may come home now and that makes me very happy to get her out of NYC.

I wish I had a cabin in the woods! My second house is in a town with yards that are very close to each other...My husband loves it but I like space....especially now!

I’m an hour from Philadelphia...We just got notice that police officers in our county were in contact with a confirmed case of the Coronavirus...It’s just a matter of time..
@diamondsR4eVR When you say it’s on lock down....what does that exactly mean?

A Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) 2 mins from our house is closed because a staff member tested positive for Corona....

Would you like some COVID -19 with your fries and chicken.....

I hate to think how many people could have been infected from coming in contact with someone at a fast food store, it's right near a school - I have a gluten free diet so I don't go there at all....
