Are you worried about the Coronavirus?

Early morning shopping is best. this is my last early morning shopping. I will from here on out order online and have it dropped at the porch. The one thing that negates is meat/milk Meat mainly for the dog. The butcher is not allowing people in the shop now. they send the meat out to the curbside, you put it in your own car.
@Arcadian That’s what I would do if I could. Are you going to wipe down your groceries with Lysol wipes?

It feels like I am in a post-apocalypse movie in some places.

Here in CO, we have quite a few cases. All of our nearby universities have shut down to online learning only for at least two weeks following spring break.

High schools and community colleges likely are to follow. All high school trips and tours have been cancelled.

Stores are out of toilet paper, hand sanitizer, many soaps, etc. - and for those of us who just needed to go and pick up a few normal things, it's quite frustrating.

I am a school teacher, so there is concern mostly for the kids, and I worry about the immunocompromised kids and my mother, for example. It would of course not be fun to get sick, but I am fortunate that I have no pre-existing conditions and am in the younger age bracket.

Up to 108 in my area. Yesterday, someone that works in my work plaza was rumored to be confirmed. My husband's coworkers sister tested positive.

And my company is still making us go into the office. Good times.

I just came from a big “stocking up” grocery trip and was thinking about the wiping down of groceries while I was unpacking. It seems impossible to actually disinfect every item from the bag, including fruits and vegetables, etc. etc. I guess In line with that philosophy you couldn’t buy anything that was packaged in-store... or for that matter in a factory near the store.
What a rabbit hole to go down! As in... Don’t buy any bunches of grapes, or magazines, or anything from the bakery, meat, cheese or seafood counters.

I abor using lysol wipes in the house (so I don't...just for travel only) . I use the old method of gloves and rags which I feel is not as wasteful (I have 100 rags which can easily be thrown in the wash with everything else. I usually buy fresh fruit but have sice moved to frozen for storage purposes. I don't worry much about the meat as I repackage it anyway I do wear gloves with everything though. Also I have a very large outside trashcan. I do not keep the bags in the house. everything now goes outside. Shoes worn outside do are always sprayed down at the doorway (have been since my husband got sick!) and inside shoes never go outside.

This'll warm the cockles of everyone's heart I'm sure.

@Jimmianne I didn’t even think of packaged meat...I buy the meat that is packaged in the store by the employees there..but they wear gloves. Cooking will also kill the virus I think...I heard viruses died when exposed to heat...I do think about the people that stock the shelves..so I might wipe those down with Lysol wipes. None of the cans I purchased in Maryland two weeks ago were wiped down....Any virus on there would be dead by now. I also wash my cans before opening them...I never thought of magazines..I also buy a Hershey chocolate bar off the shelf so I don’t eat the whole bag when I get home...I guess in the interest of safety I will have to buy the whole family size bag of Hershey kisses..:evil2:

Yes, this is what my nephew was conveying a few nights ago to me when he said American's aren't getting the full picture, Italy is inundated with CV. Italy is doing the best it could he said.. I saw a headline this a.m stating Italians are living in their homes with dead bodies.

I agree that for me personally the medical situation mentioned up thread is about as bad as it can get.

On a psychological level many Italians who aren't sick yet feel like in a surreal apocalyptical movie. Rome, Milan Turin are completely under curfew. Nobody going out except if they absolutely must. Police checkpoints every 100 m.
I've been hearing it from friends in Italy but here it is also on the news. Again: no reporting in the US?

But I agreed with you that even if it feels bad for them, the real drama is the medical situation.

I’m sure her grandma will love getting the Coronavirus for her birthday...Unbelievable..

Wow, she will survive but her grandmother is at much higher risk of dying from Coronavirus. Happy birthday. #Selfish #ignorant #sad

That's what I am thinking. She'll likely be fine but could get the virus and give it to the grandmother and entire family. I'd be telling my family the birthday party is postponed!!!!

I bought tickets for a flight in June as I’m cautiously optimistic that, like its cold causing cousins, covid19 will similarly wane as the days get longer (the UV helps kill surface viruses), return of rain and moisture means less fragile mucus membranes, and people spend less time indoors with one another and social distancing continues. Fingers crossed.

I saw that and have seen people I know in that age group saying similar for less noble reasons. Flights are cheap, may as well see the world! Grrrrr!

I hope it will be much better by June. Physician’s offices are closing around here. We don’t have anything in our county...but I’m very close to areas that do have cases...

Yess!

Must be nice to be young

I don't remember...

I'd rather be older and more sensitive than young and selfish any day! I keep hoping that I was never *that* clueless. I can't imagine I was. Pretty sure my parents or grandparents would have slapped respect into me if I even had a thought like that :wink2:

This was the article: https://www.thesouthafrican.com/new...date-experts-baffled-africa-why-not-infected/

Here is another one: https://www.france24.com/en/2020030...s-low-coronavirus-rate-puzzles-health-experts

I feel like a bit of an idiot now. I'm aware that the plural of "anecdote" is not "data" but until the NBA player, no black people had tested positive. (The tour group that returned from Europe and tested positive are understood to be white South Africans).

Not sure if its been mentioned yet (or if it matters) but Rudy Gobert is mixed race (white mom, black father).
eta - Rudy is the first NBA player infected.

Today is the first day where I went from being cautious to being actually anxious. The anxiety portion isn't anything I can do about realistically I know and understand this. I don't get worried about anything until Walmart is out of stuff. Because if I can find it no where else, I can find it there.

And Walmart is out of stuff.

If you don’t see me on here..it’s because I’m in a chocolate coma.

I had a Haagen Dazs blackout yesterday. It was bliss.

My mother is currently touring in Europe. She left us a stack of documents and will before she left. She said if she dies, she'll die enjoying her last days. She is fully prepared to be quarantined who knows where.

I don’t care about stuff, just let me know where those big bags of Hershey kisses are being kept!!

Edit: sorry, just being silly. I DO care about stuff, and particularly that it’s not there!

And if the poor guy (in CT) who contracted the illness got it from say a shopping cart, then who else used the shopping cart?

My husband said this morning that more people are being tested in the Netherlands on a daily basis, than have been tested in the US in total. Not sure his source, and don't have time to go looking.

I hope your son is feeling better! We've been keeping my son home from pre-school just because my husband works from home so it's easy enough for us to do. Very concerned about community spread, not just because of ourselves, but because we do not want to unknowingly spread to others.

P.S. Are you going shopping this morning???? I think morning is probably best time to go.

I was thinking about the grocery shopping issue and my first thought was gloves but I think I'm going to bring a garbage bag with me and covering the handle with that because then you can just throw it out after.

That's a good thing that your husband works from home, that is much more convenient with a sick kiddo. Our son is better, he was not super sick but he had all the symptoms that the school would probably worry about (coughing and sneezing). I'm trying to stay as calm as possible because stress weakens the immune system.

The latest thing is there is a mass for my MIL who passed away a year ago, memorial mass. I told DH that I don't think we should go, apparently they "can't reschedule unless the church closes". SMH! He is obese, diabetic, high blood pressure literally every risk factor.

To put it in perspective I asked him if he really thought his mother would want him to risk his health for church. He said "no probably not". I'm hoping that got through to him.

I’m buying chocolate kisses today and eating A LOT...Help me
