Are you worried about the Coronavirus?

I work in NYC public schools, in Brooklyn. We have been warned that we will likely shut down. We are sending the kids home with work tomorrow. Hopefully by Monday we will be closed. I hope it happens. We need to focus on the big picture right now. If they want to keep schools open just to serve to go meals, I'm fine with that. I'll get myself in to serve meals right along with the normal kitchen staff (I work lunch duty side by side anyway) but having people all breathing the same air all day is a bad idea. We've had several kids go home with cough and fever in the last few days. We need to stop this.

I would check goodrx.com for prices of different strengths. For some meds you can get away with paying less by buying higher Mg tabs and breaking them in half. Definitely talk to the pharmacist though since you can’t do this with all meds.

Thank you! I definitely will.

Thank you! I definitely will.

So in the past I’ve worked in community clinics with patients with no income for out of pocket meds and could barely afford copay for prescriptions. I may or may not have sometimes written “one month” prescriptions in certain ways that would last for 4 months if taken in ways not consistent with the label.. hypothetical of course.

Good health to all.
Thank you to everyone who is giving real time COVID19 updates for their areas.
I feel not so alone, being in self-isolation and reading all of your comments.
I am new here, so please forgive my ignorance.
How would I start a thread on “”What are you stocking up on, and how are you preparing for COVID19 quarantine?”
I feel as though keeping the updates to an update thread, and provisioning to a separate thread may be beneficial.
I welcome your thoughts............

Have you seen the data on chloroquine? What are your thoughts?

SARS-CoV-2[edit]
In late January 2020 during the 2019–20 coronavirus outbreak, Chinese medical researchers stated exploratory research into chloroquine and two others, remdesivir and lopinavir/ritonavir, seemed to have "fairly good inhibitory effects" on the 2019 novel coronavirus. Requests to start clinical testing were submitted.[38][39][40]

On 19 February 2020, preliminary results found that chloroquine may be effective and safe in treating COVID-19 associated pneumonia.[41][42] There is evidence to indicate the efficacy of chloroquine phosphate against SARS-CoV-2 in vitro, on Vero cells.[43]

We've got a bidet so TP is covered, we've got all meds, we've got foods that don't readily expire (rice, beans, seasoning, dry meat), water filtration (no need for bottled water), and the rest will come as it comes. Dry food is the best IMO.

Welcome!

I can see it being separated off or staying in here. The whole thing is sort of intertwined. An example of that being that knowing what other areas are running out of (TP, cleaning supplies, rice, dried beans, etc) can be helpful when planning what you may need more of and help with planning so you don't skip buying something today thinking it will be in stock next week. Of course having it separate could make it easier to.spot without reading the whole thread here.

To post, just go out to the main Hangout page and click the thing to post a topic.

Not to make lite of a terrible situation, but my rings look pretty gross after a day of hand sanitizer every 20 minutes. :-o

Right!?! That and washing every chance I get. I was excited to see one of the soaps actually made my rings sparkle like I had put them in my cleaning solution!

Just had a call from my mum who is in Vancouver, asking me to send her some face masks as she could not get them locally.

I informed her it would take upwards of 2 to 3 weeks or more before they arrive in UK and another week or so on top of that for Vancouver, and they would be coming from China.

She said don't bother.

I had to give up a diamond purchase a week ago to instead order a freeze dryer so all my food can/will be dry.

Guys, please don't force me off of Pricescope for such a sin!

I’m so upset..I drive my son who has Autism to NJ every six months for an office visit of 15 minutes..She just refills his meds. It’s two hours to go there from my house. Rather than drive the two hours back..we stay in a hotel. I know one other patient just goes once a year but I continue to go every six months. I’ve been taking David there for a long time. I emailed her on Tuesday to ask if we could skip this visit because of the Coronavirus. I asked if I could just get a refill this one time so I wouldn’t have to drive four hours. I don’t want to stay over because I’m trying to limit exposure. She hasn’t answered me..I have one month left of his Abilify (generic)...She keeps the prescriptions tight so you have to go back to see her before I get another prescription.
I think when this is over I’m going to have our regular doctor start giving him his meds. I asked her once before if she was comfortable prescribing them for David..and she said yes. His other doctor is giving me a wild hair.
Thanks for listening...sigh

I'm so sorry you have to deal with this. In an emergency absolutely ask his "regular" doc to fill an RX, they should have no issue doing so. I have many students in a similar situation and I hope their Doctors can be accommodating.

It’s insane @Mamabean. I would call her office and tell them if she needs to see David that you will Facetime with her and she can see and talk to David thru FaceTime. I’m sorry you have to deal with this Mamabean. David‘s doctor should realize this is a stressful time for people.

Thank you @Calliecake..I did suggest face time and I would mail a check to her receptionist. I think I’m going to have to make the trip there.

Someone in my DD’s office is presumptively positive. Because of HIPA they can’t tell the others who it is. Her office is closed until further notice. Now she can’t come home. And she’s sick too. :( No fever though.
Oh no @Slick1 I hope she just has a cold...She doesn’t have a fever so that’s good news..xxoo

My doctor is also my son’s doctor. We chat about jewelry all the time too. She found a diamond ring on the street once. She told me she thought it was a cz. I took out my loupe after she brought it out to show me. It was a diamond!! She’s so honest she gave it to the police. She’s awesome..If I have trouble I think she would call
it in for me. I hate to ask her though...I may just drive the four hours..but I’ll never go back after this.

Thank you @Asscherhalo_lover..I think she would if I asked but I just hate to ask her since the other doctor is still technically his doctor for behavior. I will stop going after this if she doesn’t refill it..or at least answer me..

Thank you for that @MakingTheGrade, he can't tolerate Metformin but I'll see if his doctor can figure something out.

@diamondseeker My daughter-in-law and son thought I was exaggerating..Now Virginia declared a state of emergency..She will be working from home with a just turned three year old. She’s still on the line at the store trying to get supplies in..
I take Airborne which has Vitamin C in it. I take D3 normally because I was deficient. His much elderberry do you take?

I normally have local elderberry syrup on hand through the winter, but I gave my last bottle to my daughter when her kids were sick. So I ordered some elderberry capsules which I hope will be better than nothing. Right now I am just taking 1 capsule elderberry (1150mg) twice a day, 1000mg C twice a day, and one D3 5000 IU once a day. I have seen recommendations to take much higher than that, but that is what I am doing at the moment. I have seen conflicting advice about taking elderberry once you have CV. I am going to find out more about that from a local doctor who is intergrative. But I would increase the C and D3 if I got flu or CV.

I have been in this situation and did change to the family doctor for meds for my son. We weren't driving nearly as far, but it was still stressful. Far easier with the local doctor. I know we need to talk more off here, but how old is your son?

This makes me so angry!
Also please don’t feel bad asking your family doc! I’m not a family doc but would be heartbroken if one of my patients was in this kind of predicament but didn’t feel comfortable asking me!
I’ve refilled meds for my patients that I didn’t write because sometimes they couldn’t make it to their other appointments.

I’m sorry @Mamabean. It seems so wrong that she would put you through this. I realize doctors offices are probably having a hard time keeping up with phones calls they have been receiving the past week. I would think seeing David facetime would also free her time up to help other patients too.

Can you move here? I would.love to have a Dr as wonderful as you.
