Ha ha, this discussion is reminding me of my 18th b''day party - I had a bogan theme, and everyone dressed up.
I wore one of those cheap black Holden tees with colourful decals, and chopped the sleeves off. Tight acid wash jeans..

Everyone looked hilarious, good times.

I have to admit I am also not a fan of Coopers, but Tgal I will accept your reasons
9.gif
I would prefer if there was some swearing somewhere in that story though

Apart from Little Creatures and some other smaller breweries, I really do prefer Becks, Heini, etc..

I have never tried FourEx nor Fosters - I do remember seeing FourEx signs everywhere in QLD though - you guys love that stuff Dee!

Ahh yes Coopers - pale ale or sparkling??? But nothing beats Little Creatures.
Pale for me, but if I really want to go for happy, I''ll go sparkling.

Now what is Little Creatures?

Tgal Little Creatures is a micro brewery that started in Fremantle (Western Australia) and which now has opened another in Victoria (yay!) Their pale ale is fab - perfect for scorching hot days such as today.

Glad to see TGuy has shown you how to embrace your inner-bogan.

I haven''t had a XXXX since I moved to Mexico 7 years ago. I usually drink Cascade, Boags or James Squire.

Quite a hot day today, I go could a coldie right now.

Don''t forget the successful applicant for this job will need to imbibe large amounts of Queensland''s other famous beverage.... Bundy Rum!!

MishB, I have to say, I had a sip of Bundy Rum neat and that stuff is NASTY.

Harriet, will you make a trip back to Tetsuya''s? I have always wanted to go back because I had the flu when I went and couldn''t taste a whole lot.

Does anyone drink Tooheys? We can get that in a local "Aussie" bar which isn''t an Aussie bar at all.

And if anyone doesn''t like beer, Australia has some amazing wines!!!

It would seem that ''strine'' and refined do not go together. I''ve been told by a couple of friends that our accent can be hard to understand in the States - has anyone else found that?

Speaking of strine if anybody ever has a chance to read the book that inspired the use of that term ''Lets talk Strine'' by Afferbeck Lauder (say it really fast and you''ll see the joke), it''s very funny. Apparently he was inspired to write a book poking fun at the Australian accent when he read in a Sydney newspaper a humorous description of a visiting British author inscribing a book ''To Emma Chissit'' only to discover that the lady in question was in fact asking her ''how much is it?''

Yep FI does, he like Toohey''s New :), though he does prefer wine to beer on the odd occasion he does drink :).

Speaking of Bundy Rum it has been banned in a lot of pubs and clubs in the city as it causes people to become violent after a night of drinking.

bobbin Bundy still has a bogan rep up here LOL.

The only time I had a problem of someone understanding me in NY was when FI & I was trying to catch the train to Massapequa Park, to visit GOG the lady behind the counter peed herself laughing at me (in a nice way) at my pronunciation. Unfortunately we didn''t get out there the train trip was longer then expected so we had to turn back as soon as we got there or we would have missed our plane to London
7.gif
.

However in saying that no-one picked that I was an Aussie in NY, I did get asked if I was British (even by an English girl) so I don''t know if I sound all that Aussie. Apparently though Americans have problems understanding most Aussies because when we talk we raise our voices slightly at the end of our sentences as if we are asking a question but don''t realise we are doing that - according to FI I don''t do that.

I think the Aussie accent is very easy to understand. I had a hard time understanding some of the Irish. I hear the Scottish are tougher still.

TGuy is from Adelaide, and I find his entire family sounds more English!

Yup - Fremantle prison if you ever get there is a fascinating example of an old prison built to house convicts.

Re Tguy and his family being so proud of coming from the only non-convict state, this is probably a hangover from the times when the whole convict ancestry was a source of shame (used to be referred to as the ''stain''). But you are right South Australians do love reminding the rest of us of this.

That''s interesting SS. I have a book on Australian history I need to read up on...obviously I have only studied your beer.
1.gif

It''s a wonderful country...I do hope this campaign gets people more interested in seeing it. I can go on and on about what I love about Oz. And stuff I don''t like? Well, I don''t like the idea of a pea floater (which I hear you can''t even get in Adelaide anymore!) Oh, and fritz (am I spelling that right) and sauce sandwiches. And all your BUGS!!!

Beer is a very good place to start when studying a culture
25.gif
Pie floaters are gross and I''m happy to say I''ve never had one. I don''t know what you mean by Fritz and sauce sandwiches - must be a South Australian thing I haven''t heard of. Although I am familiar with the concept of tomato sauce on sandwiches - again revolting. We certainly don''t have a stellar past in terms of food culture. Thankfully that is all changing.

Fritz is a SA thing, as TGuy''s sister complained she could not get it in Cairns. I agree, food culture there is getting better, but I still don''t get meat pies, pasties, and the like.

We obviously have great wine here in California, but a lot of the nice stuff we have is from Oz. I really enjoy Aussie wine - the real stuff, not the ones sold here with kangaroos all over them.

In our defense meat pies and pasties are something we inherited from the British. Must be an acquired taste like Vegemite. My kids think a sausage roll is a real treat.

Does Tguy follow AFL?

Vegemite is gross, but I am still going to start Amelia on it. TGuy will be sad if I don''t.

AFL, that''s footy right? If so, he loves it. St Kilda is his team...Amelia has a St Kilda xmas stocking and a SK footy ball. His mum is a Port Power fan (which, after that killing in the grand final a couple of years ago, I don''t know how she can show her face. I usually cheer for Swans or Crows. It''s the only sport (non US) that I like to watch. Cricket bores me to tears.

HAHAHA I about spat at my screen reading that, I actually don''t mind the odd occasional nip of bundy here and their (not sure I should admit that in public ) though I much prefer Bacardi :D.

I have no idea what a pea floater is or what a fritz and sauce sandwich is either but if you don''t like meat pies you obviously have not had a good one, after 7wks OS I came home and the first thing I ate was a meat pie and some BBQ chips
18.gif
HEEEEEEVVVVAAAAAAAN. Sauce on a sandwich is good with devon and cheese or sausages or chips the last of which I have not eaten since childhood LOL.

T-Gal Vegemite is awesome it is god''s gift to bread also good good with cheese and tomato and is really good for you :). If you start Amelia young she will love it, I really think it is something you have to grow up with to appreciate.

TGal - do you mean a snag on a piece of white bread with tomato sauce? Aussie BBQ staple, good stuff.

We''ve been asked many times in the US what part of England we are from. If you don''t sound like Crocodile Dundee that seems to confuse them a little.

I love vegemite and I didn''t grow up with it - starting eating it tentatively after about a year here, and now I actually crave it. My SO and I also plan to send a big jar home with us so we can still have it. I''m just a weirdo I guess, as I don''t know anyone else that has moved here and ended up liking it

softly softly,
Got the joke.

I love meat pies. I also eat Vegemite and Bovril (the Brit beef stock spread). Yum. I'm missing Violet Crumbles. Boo.
