An appraiser, I'll grant you. A vendor, maybe, maybe not. I talked about this in my post. It depends on the vendor. I have no illusion that lots of people selling diamonds are not going to say "the clouds are terrible and affect the performance, were the grade markers, and I don't think you should buy it." That's all I was trying to say.

I know what you are saying but sometimes all we can do is base our decision on the advice of the vendor we are using, then independantly verify during the return period. Hopefully the OP is using a trusted PS vendor who will give them an honest opinion concerning this diamond.

I'm not quite following you. You're saying one thing to do is check with the vendor, then you say surface graining is ALSO not an issue.

You get what you pay for. I brought up the issue of clouds because the OP mentioned it was a concern.

Thanks for the page on surface graining. It looks like that only affects a clarity grade in SOME circumstances.

Edit: I just saw your last post. Yes, I think we agree. I hope the OP is using a trusted PS vendor. That way the OP would get an honest opinion and a return policy.

Then if I were the OP, I would get an independent appraisal.

Good luck, OP.

I think we agree too but I am not making my explanation clear!

"Additional clouds not shown" in the comments section = not a problem - you see this even with higher clarities, no need to check with these usually.

Clouds that are the grade maker and are plotted on the diagram - might be an issue in SI clarities, moreso in SI2 - so best to check in these cases.

"Surface graining not shown" - not a problem - generally if it just mentions something as '' not shown'' then usually insignificant and only mentioned for the sake of completeness.

Thanks for all your helpful suggestions.

I have an appointment with another vendor today. If I do not like anything that he offers I will most likely go with the previously mentioned stone.

I am only hesitant about the color J... But I am hoping that the excellent cut of the stone will make it look as if it was H or better color...

Hello All,

So I ended up going to a diamond dealer. He''s shown me several stones and I actually did not see any diffirence between I or J color. So I think I stay with a J color stone since it will allowe me to stay within my range.

He offered me the following stone: GIA Cert # 15299142 2.05 ct (http://www.gia.edu/reportcheck/index.cfm?fuseaction=home.showReportVerification&reportno=15299142&weight=2.05)
and told me they will recreate the following band in platinum (http://www.artofplatinum.com/4images/data/media/6/r1007_020Ww.jpg) all in $14.5K....

The stone is eye clean and Total Visual Performance 0.8 - Excellent within TIC range..

He said the setting is around $2K so that means he is charging me $12.5 for the stone...

What do you guys think ?
I would be thrilled to get this ring! The diamond sounds nice,(and big), and the setting is beautiful. This ring would definitely have "the bling factor". And the price is fabulous! My stone is a GIA ex/vg/vg too, and I love it and am ALWAYS getting compliments on it. 2 carat diamonds look amazing! I hope you get this ring. If you do, I can''t wait to see hand shots!
