Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

Thought I would post this little tip before i forget it myself .....just got an email from a friend in another city who is planning an upcoming homebirth--her midwife was over to help her prep the house and she suggested this for just after birth (or when returning home for us hospital birthers):
Post-birth swelling/trauma in the v-zone--> spritz menstral pads with water and freeze briefly in the freezer, then apply
--much nicer feeling than chunks of ice in a bag i am sure
5.gif
My doula suggested the same thing: I had a little cookie sheet of them (sexy, yes). In fact, they even had the frozen pads at my hospital!

On baby carriers, I loved my baby bjorn carrier. I bought the "active" one, not because I run or doing any exercise (puh-lease), but for the additional back support. I carried my massive little man until he was 25 pounds in this thing!!!! My sister now is using it with her little girl, and she says that if she ever lost it, she would immediately buy a new one! I used mine daily. Can''t recommend it enough.

Snlee, I just wanted to add my voice to the chorus of support. Please let us know if there is any way we can help.

Litchick -- I was laughing at the image of your cookie sheet in the freezer...my DH would probably think they were specially wrapped treats. (That stick to your mouth).

I just want my gigantor zits to go away. Everytime one dies down, three take its place. I''ve never been one whose breakouts respond well to any treatment, so I have to ride this out, but boy, I''m walking around the house singing "I Feel Pretty."

Snlee--take Diver''s advice!!! You don''t want to go the weekend worrying about that, or have to sit at emerg if the bleeding doesn''t stop. We''ll be thinking of you, hope everything is okay

Hi Radiantgirl,

I just wanted to say I am so sorry for your loss. I had a missed miscarriage too(at 9 weeks, but the baby never really grew past 5 weeks)back in October. It was very difficult to go through so I really can empathize with you. Since you asked if anyone had a d&c, I wanted to let you know that I chose to have one and I am glad that I did. I also had to wait over the weekend which is tough and a bit confusing because I did keep thinking ok I think it(m/c) is happening now. The procedure was done under general anesthesia and I had just mild/mod cramping afterwards. I took the pain medicine they offered but I''m not sure I really even needed it. Everyone recovers at a different pace but I guess I would say just be gentle with yourself and accept however you grieve is normal for you.
I asked people''s advice on how they knew when they were ready to try again- after a while it became clear to me that I was ready.
I hope that you recover quickly and easily and let me know if you ever need any info etc. Take care Radiantgirl.

snlee,
I would get an ultrasound as soon as possible. I hope all is ok.

Tacori - Thank you for your kind words. Hopefully, I will be back on this thread soon with better news.

Pavelover - Thank you so much for your advice and sharing your personal experience. I am so sorry for your loss as well. I am doing better today, but I know when Sunday comes and then Monday, I will probably be a wreck again. I keep going to the bathroom thinking I am going to see some spotting or bleeding, but still nothing. I am really glad that I will be under general anesthesia so I won't feel a thing, hopefully. My husband and I have already talked about when we are going to try again, and I don't want to wait too long. I feel like I am not getting any younger, so when we get the okay from my doctor, we are going to try again. I know my next pregnancy will be filled with apprehension, but I am really hoping for a happy ending this time. Good luck to you as well when you are ready to try again.

Snlee - I am hoping the best for you and will be thinking about you. I am hoping you will get an u/s today, so you won't have to be miserable through the whole weekend. Please keep us posted!

Snlee -- just want you to know i''m thinking about you and hoping everything is ok....kup!

Oh my, I go to Vegas for a few days and have soooo much to catch up on. I just did a quick skim through but I'll be back later to comment to everyone.

Radiantgirl, I'm soooo sorry for your loss. I know it must be absolutely devastating to you but you are young and healthy and you did nothing wrong. These things happen sometimes with no rhyme or reason. Please take time to heal and then we will look forward to seeing you back here soon. You'll be in my thoughts.

Diver, Delaney is simply yummy!!! What a cutie pie!

Doxie, congratulations!!! You'll enjoy this group of wonderful, supportive women.

snlee, let us know what happens. Sending good thoughts your way.

I'll just give some quick news on myself. Had my NT scan this morning. Whoa. This kid grew in 2 weeks! Saw all the parts except the genitalia--the technician said she wouldn't even venture to guess at this point. So everything is looking good. I'm 11w6d today but the baby is measuring 12w1d. No biggie. I am beyond exhausted after traveling through time zones and working my butt off but at least I won $155 at blackjack!!!!

Gotta run but it sounds like a lot of our preggos are getting close!!!! I'm so excited for everyone. More later...

Pentitto. You''re in my thoughts as well!

Curly- had my NT scan today too! Measurement looked good (I think it was 1-1.4) but now the wait for bloodwork..

It was hard for me to make out hands and feet though, but I saw arms, knees and lil'' butt. At first I was worried about what the knee was, but after she told me, it made sense! Wish I could see the feet clearer though! I''m realizing the worry never goes away, now I feel like I won''t feel relaxed until the 20wk u/s! All in all, things are good so far though, let''s hope it continues. Can''t believe you had a business trip to Vegas--I''m too lazy to do anything and I don''t even have a small child like you! I still have very few symptoms though, no nausea, exhaustion has passed--so I suppose I shouldn''t complain. I still am not showing either--in the waiting room at the hospital everyone else had bellies! Anyway, glad to see you''re back and you should relax and rest up now!

Snlee- I''m thinking of you as well, and will keep checking back. I had spotting from wks 6-8 so I know what it''s like to worry. I''m so glad you squeezed in an u/s today! Keep us posted.

Radiant- I''m so sorry and was so sad to read your post. Please take care of yourself and can''t wait to see you back here soon..

T-Gal- I''m a little late with this, but I thought you looked great in your belly shot. Seriously the way you described yourself I thought you''d be HUGE everywhere. Looked very cute to me and proportioned! I hope I can say the same when I''m as far along as you!

jas- yea, 1 pound, but I think I may''ve gained a few in between conception and first ob/gyn visit, so it''s probably more like 5. But I was little bummed to have only gained one b/ween week 7 and 11 because I''ve been eating like a horse with no m/s, so I was like where''s the baby weight? But as long as everything''s ok on the u/s and dr. visits, then I''m fine with it!!

Just jumping in to send Radiantgirl lots of hugs... what a devastating thing to go through... but I'm so glad you are feeling a bit better today. Time does make any loss easier, but make sure you allow yourself all the time you need to grieve and recover. Plan something healing for yourself (a massage or shopping trip or nice dinner, whatever is most soothing for you). And I'm sure you'll be joining this board again very, very soon!

Snlee, keeping my fingers crossed for you!! I had some spotting a few weeks ago and my doctors didn't seem concerned, but just seeing the tiniest amount of blood can certainly ruin your whole day. Hope you're getting to see your little bean healthy and happy and jumping around right this very moment!

Also wanted to mention to Diver, Ella and Tacori that if my kid turns out half as adorable as yours are, I'll be thrilled!! Such beautiful, happy smiles, all of them... thanks for sharing.

Those were the 3 pix I caught while skimming through the last few pages of this thread, but if I missed anyone, tell me and I'll go back to look! Or better yet, you could post more pix........

ETA -- On the weight issue, I'm a little over 10 weeks and down about 3lbs from my "regular" weight... but it's my understanding that it all evens out eventually. I know of some people who've lost more than 10lbs in the 1st trimester! I do feel like I'm eating a lot though (despite the constant aversions)... and my bloat is definitely growing, if nothing else! When my normal appetite is back, I'll have to watch out or I'm sure I will be packing on the pounds quicker than I should. I envision a whole summer of nightly walks to the ice cream shop!!

I am so happy to hear that, Snlee! I''m glad you were able to get the u/s today so you would not have to stress over the weekend. That was great advice from Diver.

Our EDDs are pretty close, so I am watching your progress. I''m looking forward to my first u/s (though under different circumstances).

Went to get the carseat checked out by a certified technician. If you haven''t gone already, I highly recommend you go. Mine says 90% come in there with something done incorrectly. Of course, TGuy is an anal freak and he gave us a two thumbs up and said hats off to us...that he rarely has to do no modifications.

One important thing I learned that has nothing to do with how the carseat is installed: we must have a hand''s (or fist) distance from the back of the the front (passenger) seat to the infant car seat. (We had to install in an outboard position in our car and couldn''t put it in the middle because A) you don''t want to use one latch from one seat and one from the other and B), ours is a 60/40 split bench, so the middle is not stable.) The reason is that in an accident, the infant carseat must be able to lurch upwards. If the carseat is wedged in place, the baby ends up taking the impact by moving and not the seat. You want to seat to have play up and down.

Anyway, thought I know quite a few of us have gotten our seats checked, and it really is a smart thing to do. I got rearended twice in 6 months (once by a drunk driver) and think you can''t be safe enough. Inspection is usually free if it''s already installed. For someone near you, check out http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cps/cpsfitting/Index.cfm

snlee - Glad that everything is great with the baby.

MsF - Is that consider a mei tai carrier?

I can feel our little girl move a lot now. Good thing is she isn''t more active at night when I sleep. I came up with a name; DH is still sleeping on it - he likes it, but wants to think about it in case he comes up with something else he likes. I even have a Chinese name picked, but I haven''t told DH yet.

My first appointment and u/s is 4/7, so I do not have an official EDD yet. A couple of online calculators put me at 10/14 for EDD.

Snlee--YAY! great to hear everything is a-okay. You can sleep soundly tonight!

Tgal--thanks for carseat info--i''ll pass it on to DH cuz goodness knows i''ll mess something up. We haven''t installed ours yet.

My public service announcement for the day: For all the early preggos, it''s worth checking with your doc about taking a probiotic while preggo (esp if you don''t eat a lot of fermented foods aka dairy) talked to a midwife today who puts all her patients on probiotics to prevent the formation of Strep B. The research is limited about how effective it really is but she has only ever had 2 moms who were positive under her care. She also told me to avoid ALL sugar
6.gif
and the bacteria may vanish quickly. It''s too late for me (i''ve had a mainly dairy-free, sugar filled pregnancy!), but i wish i had known to try those things earlier.

............
Just got in from dinner with my mom--i don''t think it is humany possible for her to talk about anything but babies, mothers, babies and mothers, mothers and babies! She is in a stage of excitement that i don''t think i''ll ever reach. I honestly feel like something is wrong with me b/c she tells everyone that she can''t even sleep she is so excited. I don''t get overly excited about anything. Is it too late to move to another city? I am in for it--i fully expect to find her sleeping in my garage if i try to get rid of her.
ya, ya, i am thankful and all that jazz, but honestly, this woman is something else!
