Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

Hi Bobo,
I''m sorry that you are frustrated- I know it''s a pain when the docs tell you it''s up to you...I think that if I understand the information correctly, you are supposed to try pedialyte for a few hours, then switch back to formula full strength, ad lib. Then give pedialyte 2-4 oz for each large watery stool. So extra fluid in addition to the regular amount of formula to keep baby from being dehydrated when he has the big stools. Does that make more sense? The basic idea is, you want him to drink alot, look for signs that he is hydrated like wet diapers, saliva, tears, etc. Hope your guy is better soon
emsmile.gif
so i should give him his regular amount formula plus 2 to 4 oz of pedialyte? before his formula or after?

his doctor was really confusing, at first she said 2 oz pedialyte every three hours to repalce his formula, then the on call doctor said I can mix with his formula. Now his doctor is saying don''t mix, either pedialtye or formula. It''s very frustrating to see your child suffer and the doctor not giving you a clear instruction on what to do.

Yes bobo, the pedialyte is in addition to formula- pedialyte after each watery stool is how I have been taught. I believe that makes sense if you think of replacing what is lost after the diarrhea. Again, it''s not a perfect formula. Look at your child- how he is acting, wet diapers, etc.

Your welcom Bobo. I hope it was helpful. Do call your Dr again if you have concerns- cause they are the big cheeses. Take care.

Qtiekiki, you are so little. So so little. Your doctor is insane if he thinks you are gaining too much weight! Here''s a breakdown from the March of Dimes of what weighs what so you know that you''re not gaining fat but good stuff (for an average 29-lb weight gain):
Blood - 3 lbs.
Breasts - 2 lbs.
Womb - 2 lbs.
Baby - 7.5 lbs.
Placenta - 1.5 lbs.
Amniotic fluid - 2 lbs.
Fat, protein, and other nutrients - 7 lbs.
Retained water - 4 lbs.

Yup, water retention can be a big thing.
I had so much retained in my legs.
My thighs actually shrink about 1" 2 days PP

Question about lochia:
How long is it supposed to last? I mean the bright red discharge.
I noticed that it was tapering off after 4 days, but I''m discharging bright red again.
Should I contact the doctor?
No pain or discomfort though, though my tummy is a big bigger than 4 PP and is a bit tender.

MrsS
Wow, Jake is a big boy :) and growing so fast.
Pics!!

And great job on shedding the weight.
Can''t believe you got rid of 25 lbs in 2 wks!!

Congrats to NeatFreak!
Sending you lots of sticky dust!

If I gain 1lb a week for the rest of the pregnancy, I''ll be in the normal range. But I''ve been gaining ~1.5lbs a week, so it''s adding up. I''m blaming DH for the weight. He keeps telling me to eat, and then offers to buy ice-cream and cakes. hehe. I think I make my dr. sounds worse than he is. He isn''t that mean.

:) Even if you gain 1.5 lbs, you''ll still be tiny.
Don''t worry about it. I was gaining 1.5 lb a week myself too.
But in the end, it did taper off.

I think I''d rather take him to a ER than calling hid Dr. Very disappointed in her and the other doctor in the medical group. I feel like I have starve my baby due to the advice they given me.
29.gif

It''s like they are afraid to give you advice so you won''t sue them or something. They keep saying "do whatever you like"...I''m like your the doctor I need u to tell me how to treat my baby...not do whatever I like...

and I need to wait until next month to change to a new pediatrician...

Bobo, I hope your little one is feeling better soon. I''m sure it is very frustrating not getting a clear answer from the doctor''s office.

Argh, I guess I am going to have to suck it up and drive a more "mom" car (but no mom jeans, lol). I drive the RAV4 on occasion, which is fine, but I hate to have to switch to driving it full time. There is a day care place one block from my office that some of my co-workers use, but maybe we can find something near DH''s office (he works more reasonable 9-5 type hours than I do anyway and I do not have a lot of spare time in the mornings). DH doesn''t want to switch cars either -- he prefers the RAV because it is newer and has all the electronic bells & whistles he likes, like hook-up for his MP3 player, bluetooth, etc. I prefer my "older" car because it looks hot and hugs the road. I don''t want to grow up!

Just doing a quick drive by so I''m sorry if I''m not responding to everyone.

Bobo, I just went through a big diarrhea episode with Lily. We were told to give her ONLY Pedialyte, no formula until the diarrhea slowed down. I think the formula is just too hard on their stomachs when they are having these difficulties. I''m not sure what kind of formula you''re using but since they are mostly made from cow''s milk, it can really affect their tummies. We just gave her lots of Pedialyte to keep her hydrated and once it was obvious that she was wetting her diapers and the diarrhea had lessened, we went back to formula. I''m not sure if there is any right or wrong way to handle it, just letting you know what I did. I hope Little B is feeling better soon.

lili, I''m so glad I will be able to use Lily''s clothes again!! That is one thing I was really concerned about--I know it''s silly but she has such a wardrobe that it would be a waste to only use it once!! So far, I can''t really tell if the new baby''s movements are different. They are still too small for me to be able to make a comparison but I''m also curious if it will feel the same!

diver, I just checked out the pink and brown Bob on BabyCenter. It is sooooo cute! LOVE the colors. And by the way darling, you look gorgeous. I know we all see ourselves differently than others perceive us but I think you look absolutely fabulous!
1.gif

neatfreak, congratulations again! Glad you made it over here!! I''m not sure I''d get the stroller just yet. Have you tried it out or looked at any others? Don''t let the sale influence you if you really aren''t sure it''s THE ONE. There are tons of strollers out there!!

TGal, good job on the weight loss!! You go, girl! I love the Britney photo and description of Amelia as a lollipop! That is so adorable and can be a cute nickname for her! She is so precious and she''s definitely not white!
2.gif

snlee, glad things are going well! Great test results, what a relief, huh?! I totally understand the ambivalence about the weight gain. I''ve always been teeny, tiny. Like I didn''t even weigh 100 lbs. till I was in my 30s!! And then to get pregnant and go from 103 lbs. to 128 lbs. was pretty tough for me to handle. I HATED getting on the scale at every appointment. I had never imagined that I would see numbers that high. But you know what? It''s ok! You''re not fat, you are carrying a baby who needs nourishment. And chances are, you WILL lose the weight. I lost all of it and was shocked that my starting weight this time was a pound less than last time! I only gained one lb. in the first trimester because I was not feeling well but you''ll be happy to know that I gained 4 in the last 4 weeks! I was a little disheartened but now is really not the time to be worrying about weight. As long as you don''t gain like 70 lbs. during this pregnancy, you''ll be ok. And trust me, what you are feeling is absolutely normal!! Hang in there girl. It all makes more sense when your bump makes its big appearance!

janine, you know I puffy heart my Bugaboo! It is an amazing urban stroller. Yes, it''s expensive but we figure it will last us at least 4 years. And I''m a huge fan of the bassinet feature because the baby can sleep in it for the first few months--save apartment space! I know lots of people think the Bugaboo is too popular, especially where we live, but clearly there is a reason why! It''s a fantastic stroller for city life. I highly recommend it. We have the Frog and it''s perfect for us. DH and I both think it''s great and I''m 5''2" and he''s 6''3". It works for both of us.

Burk, make sure you take photos of Tayva and her cereal!! We have the funniest pictures of Lily eating it for the first time. Definitely a memory you want to keep!

mrssalvo, sounds like Jake is eating like a champ! Good job, mama. How are you adjusting with the 2 girls and a baby? Are they helping out at all?

qtiekiki, you are ADORABLE!!! You look absolutely amazing! What a cute belly. I''ll have to start taking some photos of mine since as of the last few days, there is definitely a bump!

Finger sizes: mine didn''t change at all. And my feet didn''t grow either.

lili, it can last up to 6 weeks. I wouldn''t worry unless the bleeding gets super heavy or there is clotting. I think the rule is call a dr. if you are soaking a pad every hour. I''d have to look at my hospital discharge papers to know for sure. if you worried, call your dr though.

Thanks Kay.

Curlygirl, since little B. is only 2 months old, I was really concern that he would starve with only pedialyte since in the beginning the doctor said only 2 oz pedialyte every three hours. pluse in between the feeding time he is mostly sleeing so I can''t really force him to drink more.

He is on soy milk because he was colicky.I suspect the diaherra is related with the cold he is having right now. But the doctor
said it could be anything...

CONGRATULATIONS NEATFREAK!!!!! That''s wonderful news and I''m so happy for you. Welcome aboard, take a long last look at your feet!
9.gif

Lili, I so hope that what has happened to my thighs is just water retention! I stare at them in wonder and disbelief some days LOL. I have no idea how much weight I''ve gained, but I''d be prepared to bet that most of it is on my left thigh (which is chunkier and wobblier even than my right thigh, in some lighting). Just before I was pregnant, I''d been on a big weightloss and excercise kick and I had JUST managed to get rid of the really stubborn cellulite from my thighs. That took some doing. OMG- you should see it now!
39.gif
It''s so bad it''s funny. My feet have gone up at least one size and my fingers have too, although since I lost weight, my rings were so big I couldnt wear them. They fit nicely now.

Bobo, I''m so sorry your little one is poorly and it must be so frustrating not to get consistent advice. I hope things settle down really quickly.

qtiekiki, you are super cute in your pic! Adorable baby bump. You look fantastic.

Kay, I totally hear you on the car thing! I''ve noticed that as I get nearer my due date, I am careful to put my car in the garage before DH''s, so his is nearer the door. I must admit that I don''t want my waters to break in my lovely car LOL. It''s older, but I love it. I don''t want to spoil the upholstery. DH actually bought a new car specifically to put his new baby in, so I figure he''ll be cool with this (although I um, haven''t directly mentioned it...). No, I don''t want to grow up either!

Congratulations Neatfreak! Welcome aboard!

Jen, how are you? I hear you about contributing...it''s tough for me sometimes, too, but I''m a happy lurker here!

All this talk of weight gain...it''s tough for everyone I see. Let''s just say I did not start anywhere near 100 pounds, so the creeping of "baby nourishment" is a shock to me too...of course I have a 35-45 pound weigh gain limit, which is shocking! I hope to stay right in the middle there. Of course I''m still convinced it''s 100% belly and bbs.
3.gif

I''m too pooped to exercise more than walking the pooch every day, but he enjoys it.

Had the 1 hour glucose test yesterday. Yuck. The drink was like taking a cold Sunkist cola, adding some Kool-Aid, and mixing it with a pixie stick. Blech.
14.gif

Hope you are all well. The construction in the kitchen is driving me batty and I cannot wait for it to be done so we can start the nursery!

I bought my hot car 1 month before the baby arrived. I was a big fat preggo in the dealership, squeezing myself into the itty bitty coupe.

I haven''t taken Miller in the car yet - we use the SUV for him. But because I have a nanny, I take the hot car to work everyday and only use the SUV when Miller and I are out. I need a new SUV soon, and I need one with some pep!

So please please please don''t get rid of your hot car. I figure this summer I will cram Miller''s car seat (he is tall and I am going to bend the rules and use a booster in the car) in the car and we can go cruising!!! He is such a boy and loves cars - we will have a blast.

I concur - no mommy jeans - yuck!

LC-I in no way mean this as judgement, but please don''t put him in your 2 door unless the airbags can be turned off completely on his side. It''s just not safe. Just a few weeks ago here there was a story about a little kid about M''s age getting killed in the front seat due to airbags.

Bobo~I''m so sorry your little one isn''t feeling well. I know all too well how it feels. I don''t know about the formula/pedialyte situation but I do think that if you don''t trust your doctor or the group that you should look into getting a new doctor. I think it''s so important to trust your doctor. Just a thought. Oh, and when Tayva wasn''t eating they were mostly concerned with how many wet/poopy diapers she was having. They just wanted to make sure she was hydrated. So if little B doesn''t get much in the way of formula but is still hydrated for a few days I think you''re fine. Hope little B gets to feeling better soon!!

neatfreak~ CONGRATS!!!

36.gif

Mrss~Hurray for the weight loss!

Kay~Yes, only mom car....NO mom jeans!
9.gif

Curly~We did take a few pics but she''s a ham for the camera so we had a hard time getting "action shots" because every time she saw the camera she would quit eating and look at the camera!
20.gif

Jas~We renovated our kitchen while I was preggo too so I can totally relate. Worst part was my DH did almost all the work himself so he was always so testy! Just think of how much you''ll love it once it''s done!!

My coupe, as the name implies, is a 2 door, but it does have a teeny tiny back seat (its an Infiniti G35 coupe), which is where I would put Miller in his booster.

Thanks for the concern.

My friend had the airbag disengaged in his porsche so that his daughter could sit in the front with him. So there are options!!! (Can you tell I love cars??)

Ahhhh that makes more sense then if you have a backseat. I am sure Miller will have a blast.

Congrats neatfreak!!

re mom jeans ... *sigh* I''m starting to understand the appeal and am wishing that the high waistband look will come back in fashion so I can rock ''em. I''m fine with my weight (would like to drop another 5 though) but the saggy belly is just not good. Not good at all. I just made a huge pile of shirts that used to fit me and are now good for washing the cars. Then again, I''ve done nothing to try to firm up my belly at all, so I''ll just stop my pity party right now.

Burk, the Neocate formula that Gabe is now on is not just good for reflux but helps with consitpation too, so it may be worth asking your doctor about it for Tayva if her problems continue. Gabe has been pooping like a mad man (not diarrhea) the past few days, which we''re thrilled about! Our ped gave us six cans so I''m not sure how much it costs to buy, but I''m pretty sure it''s expensive (of course). Hopefully insurance will cover it! How''s she feeling now? Gabe had his appt. with gastro yesterday and he''s going for an upper GI today ...

Diver, you''re getting a BOB fetish, woman! Reminds me of a post on the twins forum I read where the subject was something like, "I''m in love with Bob, and I think my husband knows ... "
21.gif
I haven''t seen the pink and brown, but it sounds super cute. I heart Bobby.

Bobo, so sorry little B has been sick. Your doctor''s office definitely is giving you the runaround - how frustrating! I hate when doctors aren''t proactive. I mean, you''re a pediatrician, it''s your job to make kiddies well!

TGal, save some of those little preemie pants because in a few months you won''t believe that she was ever that tiny!! Welcome to the weird world of baby-sizing -- so annoying how the clothes don''t all fit the same. Right now Gabe can wear 3-6 (Baby Gap), 6-9 (Children''s Place), and 12 month (Osh Kosh) -- and he''s 4.5 months old. What??

Jas, a little late with my reply but I think I had my GD test at 24 weeks. I remember it was a little earlier than most people but not super early. I wonder if your doc is going to test you again later since you got tested really early.

MrsS, wow, go Jake with growth!!! Is it totally weird having a boy now after having had two little girls?

re Changing table ... we have a pad on a dresser in the bedroom but we have never used it. Not even once. We always change them in the pack-and-play. We do use the changing pad on the kitchen counter during baths though so at least we''re getting our money''s worth
1.gif

This may be TMI, but I got my period today -- my first period in a year! I gotta admit I''m a little sad about it. Partly because I just really like being period-free, but also because it makes me feel like the whole pregnancy phase is really and truly over now. It may sound weird, but it just feels sort of sad to me.

Crying Gabie
39.gif

Ella~I totally feel ya on the tummy that''s gone to hell!! I have been wearing my "Lipo in a box" (similar to Spanx) to work most days!
3.gif
So glad the Neocate is helping Gabe! That is our next step...doc says it $75 a can!!!!
6.gif
Hope your insurance helps out at least...speaking of, I think I''ll call mine and see if they would if we go to it.... Let me know how the upper GI goes!

OK - I am officially back! Major computer problems have prevented me from being online at all so I''ve missed a lot.

I take my GD test today so I''m not too happy about that - I just hope I pass because I really don''t want to have to take it again. They are also going to draw blood for a Cystic Fibrosis test - it doesn''t run in either family but we are a white couple and the doc suggested it just as a precaution. The baby is really active these days. I can feel the little one squiggling all around sitting at my desk or driving in the car. The baby is still the most active at night - and that''s when the movements are the strongest. I swear the little one is doing gymnastics in there!

CONGRATULATIONS Neatfreak!! Sending sticky vibes your way!

Snlee - It is normal to fear the weight gain. I was around 110-112lbs. pre-pregnancy and I''m up about 20 pounds now - and I still worry about how "fat" I look even though I''m mostly bellly (so people tell me). At the beginning of my pregnancy I could not imagine gaining so much weight so fast but always remember that it''s for the baby and that it''s not a bad thing.

My mom has started planning my shower - June 22 is the date so I really need to get out there and register. My MIL is giving me one too so we should end up with pretty much everything we''ll need.

OK - I have some major reading to get done!

Jess

Thanks Mrs Mitchell!

Thanks Burk. I am ready to change his doctor. I agree with you, I need to trust my doctor and this doctor just fail to do that. The overall feeling they give me is they are very careful what they say and they don’t want to take any responsibility. But I have to wait until next month to switch doctor due to insurance issue.

We are keeping a close eye on little B. to make sure he is not dehydrated and will take him to the hospital at the first sign of dehydration. My poor little baby is only 2 months and it’s just hard to see him go thru this.

How’s Tayva doing? Hope she’s getting better.

Thanks Ella! That was exactly what I was thinking. You’re a pediatrician, your supposed to tell me how to make my kid feel better. If I know how..I don’t have to call you.

I’m glad that the formula is helping Gabe and yeah! on his pooping
