HaloAngel, Thanks for sharing this link. I have no idea who Chantal is but her birth story is very empowering!

I''ve been thinking a lot lately about my birth plan. At first I definitely wanted an epi but now I''m deciding if I want to try to go natural. Pitocin scares me so I definitely want to try to avoid getting that drug. Labor scares me and I know it has a lot to do with your mindset so I must change that!

HaloAngel: I dont know who the celebrity is, but i loved reading her story..thanks for sharing...I always wondered how it would have been had i gone the completely natural drug-free route and it just always amazes me when i read stories like this and how powerful women can be...

Chantal Kreviazuk is a Candadian singer/songwriter who actually co-wrote a lot of Avril Lavigne''s music. She is married to Raine Maida, singer/songwriter for the band Our Lady Peace, and they are sort of Canadian music royalty since they were both famous beautiful people even got married! I love her music in particular, she has an amazing voice and is a great writer. You should check it out!

Just jumping in to wish Jen a happy belated birthday!!

Hello everyone, thank you for the congratulations and the good wished. Finding the time to write has been challenging, to say the list, but I wanted to let you know how it went.

I was induced at 38 1/2 weeks because the munchkin was not growing anymore. We went to the hospital at 7AM Friday and I was 3cm dilated when I came in. I got hooked to the Pitocin by 9AM. For three hours the contractions were no more painful than the BH I had been getting since my 7th month. Then my OB came and broke my water and within the half hour I was holding on the the bed rail and screaming. It got so painful so fast I was not ready for it. We got our birthing ball out and sat on that for a bit while DH tried to make me breathe but I could barely stand it and was pulling my hair out and swearing. So I asked for the epidural, it came within 5 minutes, and while holding still for it through the contractions was almost impossible, once it started working I was so relieved!

Contractions dilated me from 3cm to 9 1/2 cm in three hours, when the nurse saw the 9cm she called my doctor, who''s office is right across the street, and told her to come right over, that I was ready to push. I was surprised it was going so fast. I was suddenly 10 cm and told to start pushing, we were afraid the doctor wasn''t going to make it, she was cutting it so close, but she didn''t think it was going to go that fast so she was taking her time.

DH was great at counting down the seconds for pushing, he was so enthusiastic I felt I needed to work really hard to give him that baby. I asked for a mirror because DH and the nurse kept saying they could see her hair and I wanted to see it too, and having the mirror helped me a lot as I could see the progress I made with every push. Also, by seeing how small her head was, I remember thinking I can do this, she''s not that big! I pushed for 45 minutes and she was out at 4:56 PM, 6 pounds and 19 inches and a full head of hair. So the whole thing, from the beginning of really bad contractions to the delivery was about 5 hours. I felt really lucky. They gave her to me almost immediately, and it was love at first sight, I couldn''t stop crying I was so happy to finally see her sweet face and be able to hold her. She was nursing within the hour.

She roomed in with us the entire two days at the hospital. I got a bad tear and stitches and had a hard time moving so DH got a crash course in diaper changing, burping, dressing, swaddling, etc. He was really glad to be able to learn with the nurses'' help.

It''s been a bit shocking to find out how little time we have to do anything other than feed her, change her diaper and try to get some sleep. But it''s been fun, especially watching DH so besotted with her. He is so proud, so involved in all her care, so excited to tell everyone about the birth and about our first days with her. I look at the two of them and wonder how did I get so lucky.

The rough spot has been breast feeding, it''s making labor and delivery look like a walk in the park. Right now it really feels like the hardest thing I ever did. She is very sleepy and it takes forever to wake her up for her feedings. She''s good at latching on but is always sleepy and falls asleep almost immediately after latching on. We need to keep constantly waking her up, making the feedings so long that by the time we finish one we have to start the next one. We ended up supplementing with formula because she was losing weight, so that is also stressing me out that I cannot provide her enough. She has gained 3 ounces by day 6, which the doctors think it''s very good. We got a Medela pump today to see if that will help and are looking into bringing a lactation consultant over. It''s been very frustrating and scary and exhausting and everyone keeps saying it will get better but I''m not sure.

So that''s all for now. I don''t have time to read through the thread but hope that everyone is doing well.

Thanks for reading and here''s a couple of pictures of Isabelle Mariana.

sIMG_9232.jpg

On this one you can see the hair.

sIMG_9331.jpg

And going home, she slept the whole way. That''s it for now, got to go feed the munchkin.

Regalada,
Isabelle is soooooo cute. Sounds like you went fast!! Your hubby sounds so great, such fun to hear how besotted he is with her. Fun for you to watch I''m sure. Breast feeding is hard, I know from reading what Tacori went through, I am sure she''ll give you some pointers. Hoping you heal quickly, and get plenty of rest. Thanks so much for checking in!!!

Regalada--
Isabelle is a beauty and sooo tiny.
Can't believe how full and smooth her face is
5.gif

And look at that head of hair!
(hey, I recognize that blanket and cap

)

Thanks so much for sharing your L&D.
Sounds like your labor and delivery was pretty fast and smooth less the tear.
Hope you recover quickly.

Yup, I agree with you about BFing.
I was in tears the first few days because my milk wasn't coming in and found that my baby wasn't latching on as she should.
I did supplemented w/ formula for 2 days until my milk finally came in on the fourth day -- then it did get easier.

for a good u/s.
Any good pix to share?
It''s been a while since we''ve seen a good u/s and belly too.

Indy
Glad to hear the spotting stopped.
Hope the initial prenatal appt went well today and hope you get to see your little bean on the u/s.

Regalada, your baby is beautiful! What a lot of gorgeous hair.

So, the ultrasound yesterday was ambiguous. If I'm actually 6 wks, not 7, everything looked exactly as it should, according to the doc - a yolk sac, an embryo... no heartbeat though. If I'm really 7 wks... not a good sign. The thing is, the balance of evidence was that Egg Day was day 20, NOT day 14, which would put me at the equivalent of 6wks, 1 day yesterday. So if that's indeed the case (which is highly likely), I guess we don't worry until next week. I'm going back next Thursday and then we'll see what the situation is.

BTW, this was the first time I met the doctor who works with my midwife. He was absolutely great - talked to me like an equal, took account of what I had to say, told me what he thought was best, but also what the other options would be, and that I could have as many u/s as I wanted - daily if I wanted - until we figure out what's what.

Well, so we'll just sit tight and see what happens next week.

Regalada, Isabelle is beautiful. What a full head of hair she has. Sounds like your labor went really quickly. Sorry to hear about the tear -- I hope you heal quickly.

regalada what a beauty!I love her pretty little face and that full head of hair! Congrats!

indy I agree that the balance of evidence suggested you O''d on CD20, so there is every reason to be optimistic! I''m glad you liked you doc and that he listened to you, and that you can have lots of u/s if you want. Those things must all put your mind at ease! Now you just have to find something to distract yourself for another week! Knitting anyone?

Pave, we have decided to get the Uppababy Vista. Now I just have to pick a color! I have looked at Cameleons on e-bay a few times over the past month, and could probably get a used one for about the same price as the Vista, but I like the idea of having a warranty. Also, there are a lot of features about the Vista I like beside the price point.

Jas, sorry to hear about your mom’s job. I hope she finds something else soon. A puppy theme sounds cute. I am considering a kitten theme for Wiggle Worm’s nursery. I have some really cute kitten accessories from when I was younger. DH is voting for a Tigger theme. You look really good in your pics.

LIA, I grew up in Yuma, AZ, so those temperatures sounded familiar. My parents live there and it is a 3-hour drive for us, but I refuse to visit this summer. (They are welcome to come here to cool down.) Happy to hear you are back living with your DH. Are you still in AZ? Try to stay inside in the AC.

Lili, my next Dr. appt is Monday, so we will find out about the placenta then. I wasn’t particularly tall as a child, then all of a sudden I just shot up. I remember a Dr appointment was I was a kid, maybe 9, and he said I would probably top out at 5’5” or 5’6”. (My dad was 6’1” and my mom was 5’9”, although they have shrunk a little now.) I told the Dr, “No way, I am going to be 5’9” and I’m going to be a model.” I was an obnoxious kid.

2.gif

Q, hope you are doing well. Which stroller did you order?

NF, I am not a twin momma, but I have not gained much. I lost 5 pounds with m/s and then regained them, so I was at 0 net gain at 20 weeks. The nurse commented that I had lost 1 pound since my last appointment like it was a good thing. I asked the Dr. if there was anything to worry about (although I was ok with no gain personally), and he said not to worry, that it meant I was probably eating healthier and the baby looked to be progressing normally. He said the baby is essentially a parasite and will take what she needs first, so I was losing weight from my lower body while my belly was growing. Basically, I wouldn’t worry about your weight if your Dr. isn’t worried. Meanwhile, I put on 4 pounds in the last 5 weeks.

20.gif

DD, maybe you will get lucky and have no m/s. I started getting really tired in week 7. The nausea kicked in shortly thereafter and I felt nauseous all day weeks 8-13 (no puking though).

Indy, sorry you had to deal with “advice” from dad and his wife. No one (except your Dr.) has the right to comment on what you do with your body. It is amazing to me how pregnancy seems to make certain people think they can make comments on, or touch, a woman’s body – it’s like the normal rules of propriety are suspended. Sorry your results were ambiguous. It sounds like you O’d later, though, so try to relax. It’s good your Dr. has offered regular monitoring if you are concerned.

Jen, hope your u/s went well and you got a good look at the girls.

Gemma, congrats on a good 20-week scan. My b**bs had a growth spurt in the 2nd half of the 1st trimester (went from small D to DD). My full coverage bras became demi bras, but I can still wear them. I want to wait and see if I go up any more before buying new bras because I don’t want to buy multiple sizes on the way up. I did have to buy new athletic bras because I was way too squished in my regular ones. I also had to buy a strapless for a special occasion. I asked the saleslady for a DD and she brought me an E! (She claimed it was the same thing, but I thought an E is the same as a DDD.) DH was very amused by the E – he is just waiting to see if I hit an F when the milk comes in!
23.gif
(I’m told him not to get too excited, it’s not like he’ll actually get to touch the **** star boobs.
2.gif
) I may have to get a lift to get rid of the extra skin once I stop BF-ing (or I suppose I could just get implants to take up the extra skin, lol).

such a pretty name, and so much hair. congrats regalada! isabelle looks adorable!

indy, it sounds like you have a really great doctor. i have my appt. on the 9th, so it looks like we''ll both be doing some more knitting. DD, when are you going in for your first appt.? i think we''re all pretty close in EDD (i''m 6 wks, 4 days).

Hey Erica, if I''m a week behind, then I''m 6 wks, 2 (or is 3?) days too, so you, me, and DD will all be due around exactly the same time. Nerd-mommas unite!

Kay, that''s funny about the E bra! Now just feel badly for us ladies who are already E/DD cups (32, mind you). F? G??? I''m gonna have BACK PROBLEMS!

Regalada--Congrats!!! Well done girl...Isabelle is just a tiny precious little thing! Sorry to hear that BF is so hard right now. She will be more wakeful in the weeks to come, but best of luck to you in the mean time. Rest up!...

HaloAngel--thanks for that post on the birth story of Chantal Kreviasuk--very intersting. I shared a lot of the same feelings as she did (right down to the visulization and the puking)

Indy, yay for nerd-mommas! I''m glad that charting has turned out to be so useful for you.

Good lord, I can''t even imagine what an E bra looks like. I only wear Patagonia''s active barely bra, so wires, padding and hook closures are all foreign to me. I guess I''ll have a growth spurt, but nothing so spectacular as you ladies!

kay I think the tiredness finally hit me a couple days ago, so maybe m/s will follow in a few more? Here's hopeing it doesn't! (knock wood)

Today I am officially 6 weeks, so erica and indy we will all be due the same week! LOL... how strange.

erica my first appointment of at 10 weeks on July 31, but on July 7 we have an orientation session at the midwifery clinic so that will be fun!

I too am already DD, so I think unheard of numbers may be in the future... F... G... maybe bigger one's don't get as large? I mean, really, aren't they big enough already? So far just a little fuller, no need for new bras, but who knows what the future holds!

CONGRATULATIONS REGALADA!!! what a beautiful daughter! thanks so much for sharing your birth story!! can''t wait to hear how things go in the next few weeks...

now...if only we would hear from diva!!!!!

jen...a belated happy bday!! sorry i''ve been so lame about posting lately. sounds like your dh did a great job. and i love the name marina! so cute!

indy...i''ll keep my fingers crossed for you with the u/s next week. sounds like the dates were just off...what day are you going in?

you guys are all so funny about the big bbs!! i was a TINY A cup to start, and now i''m pushing a c cup. dh is LOVING it. (me? not so much. i miss my itty bitty tiny ones. don''t know how you all deal with these guys on a daily basis!).

kay...i can''t believe you grew up in yuma! i was born in tucson (actually at the same hospital where i''m planning to deliver!!), but we moved to LA when i was five. i moved back to tucson to do my residency, and then did my last year of residency in phoenix. i met dh in tucson and now that''s where we''re settling. talk about coming full circle! actually my family knew dh''s family when we lived here in the late 70s!! the weather hasn''t been too bad lately... i think around 105, but we''re also getting some monsoons which are always fun!
btw, will you post pics of your uppa when you get it? :)

gemma: so glad you had a good u/s! congrats!!

erika,dd,and indy: that''s great you are all due so close together. sounds like there will be another baby boom on PS!! :)

nothing new to report with me... i''m continuing to GROW. yesterday dh told me now he knows why they call them beached whales. isn''t he sweet??
i''m trying to swim laps everyday, which feels great (to get in that cold pool!!).
we have our first appt with "new" ob on wednesday. it will be the first appt (other than u/s which were never done with a doc) that dh has been able to come to! yay!

HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!!!

I am now at 25 weeks and 4 days. I can’t believe I have less than 15 weeks to go. I have been working like crazy the past few weeks. I just can’t seem to keep up with all my projects, and I need to get my desk cleared in case we do go on vacation. I find out Monday if we can go to France or not. I booked a back-up trip up the California coast, with nights in Monterrey, Morro Bay, and Santa Monica, but we will probably have to cancel because of the fires.

I have been feeling pretty good, despite the back and rib pains. My feet are still swelling, but it has gotten better since the heat broke around here. I thought I was looking pretty good so far, then last week a woman at my office asked if I was expecting twins!

I can’t believe I am posting a bare belly pic. Here I am at 24 weeks. (It is really hard to try to take your own picture.)

6-25-08 24+1 (2).JPG

Wow, sorry for the huge scary belly pic.

23.gif
I need to learn how to size better before I post. Unfortunately, I cannot figure out how to delete it.

Indy, 32DD is impressive. Maybe they won’t grow too much. I think maternity & nursing bras should probably come with a back brace.

DD, happy 6 weeks! The tiredness is, well tiring, but it will pass. Just take naps if you can and go to bed early. The first trimester was the first time I had gone to bed at 8 pm since I was a child.

LIA, I will post pics of the stroller when I get it. I need to call the company and find out how long it takes to ship after ordering. I’m still hoping to see the plum color before I order. So you are a Tucson girl. I used to go visit friends at UofA and liked Tucson.

I am trying my hand at sewing roman shades, so I want to try to finish one before we go to a party this afternoon.

Happy 4th of July, everyone!

Hi- i''m so behind nut i will try to catch up with y''all

Where''s Diva? Hope things are going great for you! Please drop in when you have a sec so we can hear how your family is doing!!!

Jen- happy belated b-day!! it sounds like your dh really came through w a thoughtful gift and a name!! Yahoo!!!! I love marina btw.

Gemma- I am so happy to hear that the 20 wk scan went so well. I can relate to unfounded paranoia related to the l.o.

Indy- I hope things continue to go well for you- If you think you ovulated later then chances are you did! I was so freaked out at the beginning(ok well I still am) because nf and I believe we ovualted around the same time but her babies are like a week ahead of mine- but my l.o. is still growing and seems o.k. Sometimes things just aren''t on the same timeline that we think?

Halo- thanksk for the story. I will have to check it out.

Snlee- just wanted to say hi and I am glad to hear that birth plans can change- I mean I know they can but I want an epidural too but also want to be open to natural- maybe you can inspire me? I dunno. I like the idea of the pain relief being available, though.

Dd hope you are feeling well! I had nausea that started pretty early(I can''t remember exactly already and I am only 13 wks now- haha)maybe 5-6 weeks- It pretty much phased out by the 12th week- sometimes I get a twinge in the morning- but it kinda feels more like indigestion- like my tummy is still full from the night before. IF you don''t get it consider it a nice gift.

Regalada- Your story is so amazing. I was sittiing here crying this morning while reading it. I love how your dh jumped in. I can''t wait to see my little family in action! Congratulations! Your Isabella is perfect!!! Keep up the good work. I am glad you are getting a lactation consultant. I bet she will really teach you a lot/reassure you etc.

Kay- yay for the Uppa Baby- we have a baby store next to the gym- My husband has been encouraging me to exercise- I''m there and 30 min later I am over at the baby store trying out all the strollers! My fave is the uppababy! I really like the red and the green, and well- I love all the colors- I think Q got the quinny buzz- if I remember correctly. I like that too- did you know some gaps are selling strollers, etc now? This woman at the gap went through the Buzz with us for a while- but I think the uppa seems like a better value for me. Keep us posted on your color choice- I am blanking out rigth now if you are having a boy or a girl? Sorry, my brain is sluggish on a good day- now it''s like mush.

Neatfreak- I am no expert but it sounds like most ppl here agree your weight gain will catch up? I hope you are feeling well- did your rash go away? My gosh my tummy kind of exploded- it mostly seems fat with a new bulge at the bottom that is the baby- I think it''s still like 4 inches below my belly button? I don''t really have too many inches between my belly button and my pubic bone as I am short waisted/torso so I guess that is why you can tell? I haven''t gained any weight either and I wasn''t even really sick with m/s I still ate alot. I am trying not to worry about it. Figure the baby is robbing me of what it needs, right! in a good way. I don''t mind.

erica- hope you are feeling well- so much to look forward to with the bb growth spurts, huh? I still haven''t grown too much. I was a b and now am like a really full b. I haven''t bought any new bras cause I don''t know what to expect and don''t want to keep purchasing. I got some bigger undies though that are more comfortable- not that you asked, haha.

LIA I hope you are enjoying your reuniting with your dh. It must be cool to come back to where it all started with the two of you . Keep cool in that heat, my gosh. Can''t wait to hear about your new dr. Did they give up on you "proving" your pregnancy? I can''t rmember the word you used before.

Jas(jackie) hopeyou are well and taking it easy! I have the sticky vibes going here for you too!!

Thanks to all the mommies checking in on us and giving all your experience! Tgal and Mrs Salvo- I am glad to here that the baby in your arms really makes all the work worth it! Good to here. Tgal- you said you would do it again- do you mean soon?

Oh almost forgot- well nothing too exciting to report here- Just a lot more tired over the past week- do you guys think that is normal 1st trimester stuff? I think I might ask to have my iron checked because I didn''t do so well with the vitamins (my dr. should have never told me they weren''t super important in the 1st trimester- I let myslef get out of the habit but I am working on reminding myself to take them now.

So sorry if I missed anyone I really tried to get every body! Hope you guys are having a great holiday!

I''m back and I''m a MOMMY!!

short version- James Emerson was born on wednesday july 2 at 2:44 am.

long version - i went to my scheduled appt and the doc started doing the strep test he asked me if i had been having contractions. i told him yes but they were sporadic at best. he had a funny look on his face and told me to get dressed because he could see the membranes and the baby''s head. he called for a wheelchair and i was taken to l&d. they got me checked in and did an exam. i was 4cm dialated. they started an iv and i rested for a bit. my mom and hubby rushed to the hospital and joined me in my room. i labored on my own for a few hours and got an epi when i was dialated to 7cm. i started pushing at about 12:15 am (wednesday a.m.) and delivered James at 2:44 a.m. everything was fine until then. the placenta would not deliver. i continued pushing and it would not come out. the doc and nurses were pushing on me really hard and the doc even reached inside to feel what was going on. i dont remember much beyond that. i was given some meds that made me feel really drunk and i''m pretty sure i fell asleep. i woke up a bit later and learned James waa in the nicu getting fluids and was assured that he was fine and that all preemies are sent there right away as a precaution. I fell asleep and woke up around 7am when they brought him to me. I had a 4th degree episiotomy and was (am) very sore. James weighed in at 6lbs 7oz and is 20.5 inches long - born at 36weeks, 4 days.

James is perfect and we are going home today. will post more soon.

Regalada - Sounds like your labor went pretty fast and smooth. Sorry about the tear. It''s so sweet that your DH got to bond with Isabelle. Hope BFing gets better for you soon. Isabelle is adorable. That''s a lot of hair.

Indy - Hope your mom is feeling ok. So sorry about your dad and stepmom''s comments. Everyone seems to think they know everything when it comes to pregnancy and kids. Your dr sounds great. You know your O day, so your estimate is probably more accurate.

Jen - Your gift from DH is so thoughtful even if it''s last minute. Yay for picking a name. Marina is sweet.

Gemma - Glad you enjoy the u/s. It''s amazing what can be seem at the scan. I think most moms say that the bbs get a little bigger when the milk comes in. But since you are only 20wks, I think your bbs might still grow before then. Mines are were still slowly growing after 20wks, but I am not buying any more bigger bra now that I''m so close to my due date. I am just going to buy nursing bras/tanks in a couple more weeks.

Kay - Yay on deciding on the Uppababy Vista. It was one of my contender, but DH didn''t really like it as much as the Quinny Buzz. So Pave is right that I ordered the Quinny Buzz. I ordered the stroller and the bassinet in Juice (a orange and red combo).

I told DH that I am going to get a breast lift after we are done having kids.
9.gif
I went for a small B to a very full D (well it might be a small DD since my bbs is kind of spilling out of my D cup bras). So I am sure there will be lots of sagginess after BFing.

You look great and you are tiny for 24wk.

LIA - Good luck with your "new" OB. Hope she is as great as you remembered.

Pave - Your tiredness is most likely normal 1st trimester symptom. But definitely ask your dr if you are concerned.

Hope everyone else is doing well. Happy 4th of July!!!!

I am doing pretty well, nothing exciting. DH just finished washing the carpet for the whole house. We will go buy sheets and other baby necessities after my shower next Friday. Then the nursery should be done, and I''ll post pics then.

Here''s my belly pic from two days ago and one from when I was 7w 6d for comparison. I had grew a lot.

kiki_belly_pics_comparison.jpg

Congrats Diva! What a shock, huh? Sounds like your boy is a great healthy weight, and he was just ready! I hope you heal up quickly.
35.gif

Diva - I was posting at the same time you were posting. Welcome back and congratulations on your little boy. Can''t wait to see pics of James. You make the birth sounds like a breeze even with the complications you had. You are such a trooper.

regalada, Isabelle Mariana is beautiful! Thanks for sharing your L&D story. I hope you have a smooth recovery and that breastfeeding gets better.

Indy, I am keeping my fingers crossed that you see a heartbeat next Thursday! I'm glad you like your doctor and he listens to your concerns.

Kay, You look great! I hate those dumb comments!
20.gif
I hate when people comment about your size - big or small. Can't they just say you look great? I'm crossing my fingers that you get to go on your France trip!

Hi pave, I like the idea of having an epi available too. You never know if you can handle the pain until you're actually experiencing it! Who knows how labor will go. I still need inspiration myself to try natural!
40.gif
I actually started getting my energy back at around 13 weeks but everyone is different. Your body is doing a lot so it's normal to feel tired. I was extremely tired the first trimester. When your doctor does the initial blood test, don't they check your iron level? It doesn't hurt to ask about that. It's probably normal tiredness though.

I'm 6 months now! I can't believe I only have about 3.5 months to go. Baby boy's movements are very frequent and stronger now. I feel him frequently throughout the day and I absolutely LOVE it! I can see him squirm underneath my clothes and it's so fun to watch. I'm definitely getting bigger. People tell me I'm small for 6 months and maybe I am but I feel big. Yesterday a co-worker said he could tell I'm pregnant from the behind now.
4.gif
I turned around thinking he just called me a fat a$$!
29.gif
Then he said that I have the pregnant walk. So apparently I'm starting to waddle.
5.gif
I guess I don't have to but it's just so much more comfortable for my legs and back.

HAPPY 4th of JULY!
