Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

Hi all -- thanks for the compliments -- I will respond individually tomorrow.

CONGRATS regalada!

28 wk appt today -- on the plus side, got the 3D/4D US which was very cool. Babies are about 2 lb 14 oz give or take. Still boys Still transverse.

On the negative, I''m dilated 1.5 cm already, which made my doctor concerned. I''m now on weekly appts (which she declared immediately after my internal) and if I am any more dilated next Monday, it''s off to the hospital for steroids for the babies to speed their lung development. She didn''t say anything else about other meds (magnesium?) to delay labor, but I think she didn''t want to borrow trouble.

DH is out of the country next week (of course) so thanks goodness Mom and Dad will be on the case!

It was just a little too serious and all. Plus, considering the in-law onslaught this week (OH the stories I will share tomorrow!!!!) I just spent the last few hours cuddling the doggie and giving a very serious lecture to my boys that they are to STAY PUT for at least 4 or 5 more weeks, or I will be very disappointed in them.

Yeah....tell them they can start causing trouble AFTER they come out of the womb...they have their whole lives to do that. Throwing sticky vibes your way Jackie...

Diva - I will probably bake some this weekend. I told DH that I have an urge to bake cupcakes when I got home from work today, and he said go bake some. I don''t have everything I need, and he even offered to take me to the market right away. I think he wants some cupcakes. hehe.

You are almost there. Are you still working? I go to work, but I feel like I checked out already. I keep telling myself ''just 3 more weeks'', then I''ll be home and just wait for the baby to come.

Moms definitely chime in on the ''girls'' size when milk comes in. I was a small B too, but now I am already a full D. I can''t imagine them getting bigger. I think I am going to end up with saggy B once I finish BFing. So sad.

I just ordered our stroller. YAY!!!

Uh Hello....

Have you learnt nothing from myself and Jas12? DO NOT BAKE UNLESS YOU WANT TO HAVE THAT KID NOW.

Ha, maybe QT has

TWIN MOMMAS TO BE

Do y''all remember your weight gain by about 14 weeks? My doctor doesn''t seem concerned, but I am. I''ve only gained 7 lbs total so far, and that was all in the first few weeks. I haven''t gained anything in the past 2 weeks or so. And I feel like I am eating all the time here already. Everything I have read of course suggests 1lb a week, or 1 1/2 lbs per week by now, but I am certainly not meeting this...advice?

Neat, I'm not a twin momma, but my friend is... and I know she was so sick in the first trimester that she'd actually LOST about 10 pounds by 14 weeks (and she was pretty thin to begin with). Her doctor said it was no big deal, that everything would even out eventually.... and it definitely did... by the end, she had gained even more than the recommended weight. So I would imagine you are totally fine (unless your doc tells you otherwise)!! No worries...

Thanks Eph. That was totally my problem too...I was so sick that I was eating practically nothing. I lost about 2 lbs, then gained it back, so TOTAL I am up 7 lbs...hope it all evens out. The research I have been reading suggests that it''s important to gain steadily throughout...ugh...

NF, you seem like a healthy woman who looks after herself and eats well, and I'm sure you are doing great! Everyone's body is different and people probably gain weight in different ways...some all at once, some in fits and starts, some slowly! As long as you are eating regularly and making sure you feel satisfied and that your energy level is good, I'm sure you are doing the best thing for your babies! The doctor isn't concerned, so rest easy. If you are worried, though, you can always add another snack or two to your day... I have heard that nuts are really reallt good for preggos, and they are very satisfying and calorie rich too.

thanks DD. You know how hard it is to be not doing what good research suggests is good for the babies! Frustrating! Trust me, if I could be eating more I would...as it is I sometimes am eating so much I feel a little ill...I think I need to start drinking milkshakes or something to get more calories in.

LOL! I hear you! But I really do believe that sometimes thinking about things too much is not a good thing... easier said than done, for sure, but it really sounds like you are eating enough! You don't feel dizzy or lightheaded, right? Your energy is good? I wonder if maybe you just have one of those bodies that is slow to lose, slow to gain... you mentioned that you only lost 2 lbs when you were really sick in your first trimester. My friend lost 15! Your body will catch up. Remember the research is based on averages so you can't predict the outcome of any individual from that!

Although drinking milkshakes does sound really good... what about McFlurries? Those are pretty yummy too
3.gif

My thing right now is worrying that I have no m/s, if you can imagine that! LOL. I feel great, just sometimes if I wait to long to eat, after I eat I feel a little shakey/shivery from the low blood sugar. Otherwise, no nausea! I am in my sixth week and apparently m/s peeks in weeks 5 - 7. My mom didn't have any m/s so maybe I am lucky, but you know what the research says
20.gif

Jackie, you glue those knees together, woman!
2.gif
Seriously though, I hope your guys decide they want to stay in Momma's nice warm tummy for many more weeks. The weekly visits can be draining, but they're also really reassuring and well worth the annoyance of going so often!1

NF, I didn't have any m/s and didn't lose weight the first tri, but I remember being nervous that I wasn't putting on much weight in the beginning either. And I remember the doctor saying, "Oh just wait, the weight will seem to come overnight!" and he was right! As long as you're taking in what you need to take in (calcium, water, prenatals) and eating as best you can depending on your m/s, then I think you'll be fine. So many women go on to have healthy babies despite tossing their cookies for the whole first trimester (and longer!), so your body somehow works it all out!

ETA: I jsut went back and found my original post about that, and here's what I said: "It's funny, I actually called my dr. last week to see if it's OK that I haven't put on any weight yet (less than 2 lbs, as of right now), and he was like, "At this stage it's fine. Believe me, you'll gain plenty later on -- and it'll seem to happen overnight!" -- ha ha! I do feel rounder, but it does worry me a little that I'm not really gaining weight. But according to a book I have, I'm more "underweight" than "normal" (though I'm totally not underweight at all!), and it says that at first it's harder to put on weight b/c the extra cals I consume are going to correct my "weight deficiency" -- hmmmm." And that was from when I was about 11 weeks or so I think?

Thanks DD and Ellaila! Ellaila- It's good to know that you gained later too because you have two adorable babes to show for it.
1.gif
I am such a worrier by nature and of course a research freak so I was getting worried reading all this research on PubMed suggesting that moms who put on a steady amount of weight are less likely to have preterm labor/babies.

It's interesting about the underweight thing...my doctors have always made comments about how I am small, am an excellent weight for my height, etc. But by my BMI calculations I was just a hair under the "overweight" category! Crazy huh? Those things seem like such BS sometimes. But it could be certainly why I am not gaining fast if my body needs to "bulk up" first on calories.

DD- I am TOTALLY a slow to lose person, and my weight doesn't really fluctuate so it would make sense that I would be slow to gain too. Even while not pregnant I am slow to gain... I like it and I am sticking with that theory!

Guess I'll be going to coldstone tonight!
9.gif

NF, sometimes you just have to say "bah!" to research!

A gal I know took SIX pills a day whlie she was pregnant. Prenatal, DHA sup, and god knows what else. I was only taking a prenatal and felt like "research" told me I needed all these supplements to make a healthy baby.

Well, I asked my doc, and he just said I was fine taking my prenatal. And I was. Time will tell, I guess, but I think I have a pretty healthy baby, minus her crooked little head.
1.gif

Eat well, get plenty of rest, and you will be fine. Believe me...in a few weeks, you will be praying the weight gain slows down!

DD, m/s BEGINS at about 5-8 weeks (not peaks, I believe), so you have plenty of time for it to hit and get worse...never fear.
2.gif

My m/s was around 6 weeks-12 weeks.

Me too.

Jackie - Hang in there. Try not to walk around too much.

DD - don''t worry about not having m/s. I never had m/s, and my baby is fine. Everyone''s just different. We could be the lucky few.
2.gif

i felt a little off (and SOOOO tired) starting around 6 weeks. my first true episode of vomiting was around 8 weeks (we were on vacation in florida). then it was pretty steady until around 13 weeks. UGH.
i really hope you don''t get it!!!!

has anyone seen indy around?

Indy said she was going away for a while on the 25th, so I guess she isn''t back yet.

Thanks, I guess, for all the "reassurance" about m/s gals!
20.gif
LOL... that''s some reassurance that doesn''t exactly feel great! We shall see how it all unfolds!

Hey ladies! Guess what - i went to the dc. today for an exam. I was 3 cm dialated - so im in l & d right now. Will up date soon!

Hi all,

Sorry to be MIA the last few ?weeks ?days-work has beenr eally busy and my oncall has been exhaustingly so. I''ll have to go back to read through the thread and reply personally!

As for the last few things...

NF, I was worried about my slow weight gain too (first time in my life!). I lost 2 pounds in 1st trimester also, but have quickly put that back on and am right in the middle of the recommended weight gain for 19-20 weeks. It truly does seem to come on over night without you doing anything differently! As long as you are getting enough calcium, protein, water and good fats (and taking a good prenatal), you will be fine.

DD, my MS started in earnest at about 7-8 weeks, and was at its worst at 14 weeks-then just disappeared over 2-3 days. When it first started it was reassuring (yay! I am actually pregnant) but then it got draining. I never found the ''magic bullet'' that some people seemed to have that helped. I didn''t vomit that much but the nausea was pretty constant from 11 am until I went to bed. Also, I was never ''hungry'' per se. I''m really enjoying being hungry again!

Okay, off to read through the thread-more later!

Diva good luck!!!!

Diva,
Sending best wishes to you. Good luck!!!!
35.gif

gemma! great to see you back! i''m exactly the same as you. i lost about 2 lbs in the first trimester, but i''m just in that normal range weight wise right now...

DIVA...PLEASE keep us posted!! good luck...thinking about you tonight!!

and DD, thanks for the info on indy. i was just worried with all the cramping/bleeding. hopefully she''s off having fun somewhere and not worrying about her "bun." :)

ETA OH my gosh DIVA!!! Did you end up baking???!???! How exciting-can't wait to hear!

Thanks for all who asked if we will find out the gender of the baby. We are hoping to be surprised so I hope I don't 'recognise' it in the ultrasound (this week!!)

Thanks too to Kay and Jen and LIA-I feel a lot bigger than I look I guess. Still I have had a growth spurt in two weeks-I'll post another shot soon.

I really feel for all you ladies in the heat! That is going to be me in 4-5 months
14.gif
!

Indy, I hope you are okay! I'm glad the spotting turned out to be nothing....

DD, we have had no problems with sex FWIW. Some *ahem* change in technique has been necessary to compensate for the belly and the sore boobies (although less now that in 1st tri!)
3.gif

Jackie, you look GREAT! I agree with whoever said 'glowing'-that is just the word! I'm sorry that you're having trouble breathing-but yay for two healthy growing boys in there!!! Bummer on the pg clothes not fitting-I hope the bands work!! I can toootally identify with the pregnancy being the only topic of conversation-it's lovely that people are excited but it is sort of freaking me out that they seem to think I have no other interests! That time when I knew I was pg and didn't tell now seems really precious-people still talked to me about other stuff. I was nearly vomiting half the time but the conversation was interesting!
3.gif
Yay for your helpful friends-the dinners sound like a great idea!

Jen, I am so sorry about your student. I have been having really weird vivid dreams (mostly nightmares) which is very unfun.

Shortee, welcome! How exciting that you are sooo close!

Q, I'm sorry about those comments on belly size. People say really odd things. A (um pretty big) girl at work said to me last week '20 weeks? I had a friend who is smalled than you and she is 30 weeks! Is it twins?!'
20.gif
And the boy thing-I'm sorry you have to deal with that. I suspect many parents or grandparents do have preferences but most of them are sensitive enough to keep them to themselves!

DD, I wish we hadn't told DH's family as soon as we did. My MIL was not very discrete and started telling EVERYONE. I mean, people at the grocery store. I was 5 wks pg at the time
23.gif
. I think do it as you feel comfortable-I wanted to see a heartbeat before I told anyone who I did not care to know that I had had a miscarriage-or who might tell others!

Jas12 I am so sorry to hear about your breast pump
15.gif
. Yay for Co being so good at the wedding!

Eph that is beautiful bedding.
18.gif

Pave glad that you are back-I had symptoms that came and went around the end of the first trimester. Now the boobies are fine, but I get a bit 'squirmy' if I get too tired or eat something really rich.

Jess I'm glad that you had a great shower! I'd love to see some pics of your nursery! Sounds like you have reached a good compromise on the GDM.

Kay yay for some fun baby purchases!

LIA I hope your move goes well! You look gorgeous! That dress is absolutely stunning on you and your belly is so cute!!

Janine I would love to see a belly shot-you notice you didn't see my spotty puffy face in mine!
3.gif

Okay I only got a bit into the thread so I'm sorry that I've missed things out-I will have to come back and read more later!

Good luck Diva! Wow, is it crazy that I wouldn''t mind going through L&D again? It was just so exciting to finally get to the hospital...on the cusp of something amazing. I''ve gotten nostalgic!!!!

Yay Diva! How exciting! Good luck!
