Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

jen, glad your baby shower went well.

Indy, you aren't going to tell us the sexes? Hope your first day at your new job goes well!

Lisa, can't wait for an update! For your sanity, I'm hoping for a singleton.

Here's a picture of the cross stitch I'm working on. Some of you may recognize it, as I posted it a few months ago. Still need to finish it! It's a lot of work! jen, I don't know how you've found the time to do 5 of them!

jas, I'm so excited for you!!!! I hope that plug doesn't regenerate and this is it for you. Can't wait to "meet" your boys--I bet you're kind of anxious too!

Hang in there, girl and if those contractions get longer, stronger and closer together, get yourself to L&D asap! I'll be checking here all the time now and we'll be keeping your spot warm in the mommy thread!!!

Jen, so you guys didn''t tell that they were girls? We know (with 70/30 probability) the gender but I don''t want to tell anyone. DH says that''s silly. But I want it to be a surprise. I also don''t want people going binky on the pinky (or blue-y! not telling!) when they get us stuff.

We ddid tell them at the shower -- it was a relief after all this time of watching what i say so closely!! I loved having the secret at first, but then i started to stress myself out about things like "did i say "babies" or "girls"" We didn''t want an overload of pink clothes or matching clothes, so i''m glad we kept the secret until the shower at least -- i don''t think i could have kept the girls a secret in real life if i hadn''t been able to tell everyone here, so i think you should tell us and save yourself the stress

Anyway, I''m curious! pretty pleeeeeeeease?

Ooooookkkkk. Fine, I'll tell you guys. But remember that it's only 70/30. It could still go the other way.

It's....

Indy, sounds like a good plan to me

. I''m probably going to tell my adviser when he returns from his sabbatical. Even though we talk pretty frequently, I''d rather tell him in person. I would be his second pregnant student in 3 years, and I know he trusts me to get my work done on time. As for my course head, I think I''ll have to tell him pretty soon, too. I''m hoping this pregnancy will be bedrest-free, because that would definitely affect my teaching. Teaching will be over, except for grading, by mid-December, which is around week 30. Someone would have to teach my two sections, which would be fine for 1 week, but no longer than that. I know it''s hard to gauge the chances of bedrest, so it''s a bit silly to over-think this. If it weren''t for PS, I wouldn''t have even thought it could possibly happen, especially if you''re otherwise healthy and having a textbook pregnancy. I''ve no doubt they''ll allow me to teach, but I feel guilty for not having a viable back-up plan if something happens. Sigh. I''m glad that your work schedule is going to be much more flexible, especially with the cubs.

Snlee, I used to cross-stitch when I was younger. I think I''m going to start knitting a few things once the weather turns, but I think my terrible eyesight can''t handle stich-work anymore. Good luck finishing it! I bet it''ll be a lovely heirloom for your baby.

I love this cross-stitch!!!! maybe I should do one too. Haven''t done it in 15 years, but now seems like a great time to re-start. Thanks for the inspiration.

Erica, sounds like a good plan! I would never have thought about bedrest either if it weren't for it being twins. But on hear I learned that it can happen to anyone and everyone should probably have a plan, just in case.

OK, a pair of identical.....

Indy!!!! You are such a PITA girl! Just kidding...but I want to know!!!!!! I'm running late for my hair appointment here to see if you'll tell!

I need to live vicariously through you because I won't know ours until Friday!!!!

Erica I totally wouldn't worry about bedrest, I know it seems really common here but we also have a number of twin preggos and IRL for singles it's pretty rare especially before 30 weeks. I am sure everything will be fine! And I totally understand about wanting to tell your advisor in person. I STILL haven't told one of mine for the same reason.

Indy gives some great advice, I am going to use that from now on when I have to tell someone unpleasant news!

I wouldn''t worry about bed rest. It''s uncommon especially for singleton pregnancies. I read only about 6 to 7 percent of all pregnant women go into pre-term labor. Even then, bed rest isn''t always prescribed.

LIA, how are you doing? Any update? Are you going to weekly appointments?

OK, I''m back from making dinner. Don''t kill me! Don''t kill me! The twins were hungry OK? It wasn''t for me. It was for the babies. (That''s my new fave line, btw... it was also the reason I ate that whole bag of ju jubes earlier today).

Is it gross that I''ve started to refer to the shared placenta as "the family meal"?

I don''t know why I find that so hilarious. But I really, really do.

So, we''re probably having boys.

Boysboysboys. Rambunctious naughty, identical twin boys. I smell trouble!

To be honest, we''re both a leeeettle disappointed. But you take what you get! I told DH that maybe we''d try for another one so that we might have a girl, until he pointed out that we''d probably end up with TWO MORE BOYS!!
3.gif
At which point I was all "Nope. We''re done."

35.gif

Indy, how can they give you odds like that on the gender? Did they see the little ding-a-lings or not?? Was it because it was so early?

I am jealous, I hate to admit that I really really want a boy, which means we will have a girl
20.gif

Now I am going to go buy a whole bag of jujubes. No, I am not kidding.

Indy -- thanks for spilling!
2.gif
All I can say is that boys are WONDERFUL -- you will LOVE having boys! They can be rambunctious and trouble, but so can girls -- and my boys had me by the heartstrings from day one -- honestly, i am hoping i can bond with my girls as well as i have with my boys (and it''s something i stress about, hopefully needlessly) -- anyway, CONGRATS!
36.gif

jen

and well, um, yeah, "family meal" *is* kinda hilariously gross
3.gif

Indy, congrats girl!!!!!! You are the one with the adorable family name Max right? I love that name for a boy.

But I totally understand about being a bit disappointed, we really want at least one girl too. We will see...

I am SURE that if they are indeed boys that they will grow on you and be momma's boys (in the good way, not the clinging whining annoying way) for sure.
1.gif

Indy, Congratulations! Thanks for telling us....finally!

Welcome to TEAM BLUE! I''m excited. We needed more baby boys here.

Yup, too early. Basically, the doc said "girls and boys both have nubbins at this stage, but those nubbins, in my experience, look a leeeettle too big to be girl-nubbins. I''d say 70-30 odds on boys." Then he asked us to make sure we call and let him know once we do (since we won''t be seeing him again) since I guess he makes it kinda a sport guessing the gender that early.

Funny about the ju-jubes! For a while, every time one of you ladies mentioned ANY food, I just HAD to have it, like yesterday. Uhm, I mean the cubs had to have it. Not for me you know. For them.

So much excitement! Can''t wait to hear what NF''s babes are going to be! And Jas has me on tenterhooks!

...what IS a tenterhook, btw?

Thanks for the congrats, ladies! I have also heard that women bond better with their sons than their daughters, Jen, so I think it will all be A-OK. We will love boys too of course! I think DH is more disappointed than I am.

My Dh really wants a girl, as do his parents. My father in law always wanted a daughter, and of course that meant that he ended up with 3 sons! Anyone know if the gender of men''s swimmers tend to run in families? My DH is one of three boys, and his dad is one od 4 boys (one girl) so I think odds are boys for us if those odds hold.

So I am noticing I am very emotional these days. No actual crying, but I have had that welling up feeling at silly things. Like I was watching the Olympics and it was men''s super-heavyweight weightlifting (guys 300+ lbs). Well, the German competitor was only 26, and one year earlier his wife had died in a tragic car accident, but right before she died he promised her he would become a German citizen and then win her a gold medal at the Olympics. Well, on his final life he was in second place and to win he had to life 7kg more than he had ever lifted before! And he did it! You should have seen him celebrate! Then when they gave him his medal, he held it in one hand and the picture of his dear dead wife in his other hand
39.gif
I tell you, that was the most heart-wrenching and amazing story of the Olympics so far for me!

Indy I want to eat anything I think of. Like I was watching a cooking show (I know, bad idea
20.gif
) and they made Pad Thai and now I am craving it so bad! I won''t get it, but man I want it! Given this uncontrollable craving issue, I think I am doing okay having gained a grand total of *only* 6 lbs in the first trimester

Congratulations, Indy! We live next door to two twin boys (who are 4, I think), and they're so adorable. They finish each other's sentences and are best friends. When my husband is in the backyard grilling, they hang out with him and tell him all about their days. They're precious.

Attention preggos and former preggos, please help me out with some info

The last few days, every once in a while, if I am sitting still I have been noticing a kind of sharp, pulling feeling around my cervix area... like a short, sharp, pull, as if there is a string inside my cervix opening and someone is pulling on the string. That''s the best analogy I can come up with to describe it. I will feel 2 - 3 pulls, then it will stop. Not particularly painful, but pokey.

I wonder if any of you have felt this? I admit, it is midly disturbing, and I will bring it up with my midwife when I see her in 5 days, but I wanted to see if anyone else had a similar feeling. I suspect it maaaay be related to dehydration, as I noticed it in the morning, and then this eveing when I hadn''t had enough water. I drank 2 big glasses and it seems to have gone away.

Anyone else have this?

Well, sounds potentially like the start of round ligament pains. Does this occur when you get up after sitting for awhile? Or while you are resting?

I''ve felt these for quite some time, but it''s usually while I am getting up after being inactive. I would ask your midwife for sure though!

Ditto. I had round ligament pains and they are, well, a pain! They do hurt. Dreamer, do mention this to your midwife because at 19 weeks I thought I was having ligament pain but it was pretty persistent. My OB was cautious enough to send me to the hospital and I was admitted because contractions were picked up on the monitor, even at 19 weeks. So anything out of the ordinary, always mention to your dr.!

That's the only thing I can think of too - round ligament pains. However, I don't remember feeling them till the second trimester (I think around week 15-16). Definitely ask your midwife about it.

Ligament pain eh? I notice it when I am resting mostly, and I have only noticed it on maybe 3 or 4 occassions in total in the last week, and each time it only lasts about a minute or so. I would have imagined that ligament pain would be more at the sides of the uterus, these are way up inside my vajayjay in the middle! LOL! But what you are describing makes sense.

I will definitely ask my midwife about it, and if it gets any worse at all I will simply call her (she is on call and available all the time).

Thanks everyone!

ETA okay I looked it up and it says it can happen when you change positions in bed... the first couple times I felt it was when I was laying in bed in the morning waking up, so that makes sense. And today, I did a lot of walking and it was after I had moved around on the couch.

Anyhoo, it is early to feel it, but I think the only reason I even noticed was because I was so still at the times with no distractions, otherwise I probably wouldn't have noticed. I'll ask the midwife though to be sure.

ETAA apparently the nerves attached to the round ligament go down through the vagina and end up in the labia... I think it is this type of nerve stimulation I am feeling. more than the typical round ligament pain, which seems to be more to the sides of the body. Anyway, TMI, but there you go!

TWINS TWINS !!!

OK, wait....I have to compose myself.

RE puts in the wand and *bam* 2 sacks staring right back at us! The room fell silent. He had been so nonchalant whenever I brought up multiples to him - HAHA.

We saw the HB of one fetal pole right away and not the other which was a bit smaller in size (on the left).

RE said there is about 20% chance that second embryo would catch-up and continue but not to be surprised if by next US it has disappeared.

Sometimes embryos are a couple of days behind each other. He did say that he has seen less reassuring images produce a perfectly fine twin gestation.

He gave me a study he conducted on women who underwent IUI and m/c risks after the detection of early fetal cardiac movement.

It is all age related, surprise, and I still have a 15-20% risk of m/c despite the visualized HB.

I go back in 10 days. Honestly we were relieved to see only 2 sacks.

Still in a stupor over here. This limbo is way worse then any 2WW I ever endured!

LISA!!!!!!!! How cool and fun! I will withold my over the top crazy twin excitement for the next US, but I have to say something in me really really thought it might be twins for you too!!!!! Crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lisa, oh wow! TWINS! Congrats! That's great you saw a HB. I hope the next 10 days go by fast! I thought it might be twins for you but I didn't want to say it. Another set of PS twins!? I can't believe it! Even with fertility treatment. A 6th set of twins???

DH just said "maybe since you're on PS so much, we'll have twins with our next pregnancy."
23.gif
I'm staying away from PS when we try for #2!

Lisa
That''s so exciting, it''s twins galore on here!! Wishing you all the best in the days ahead!!!
