Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

snlee
that''s great about the good appt -- no further dilation and baby is down.
and 21 lbs for ~32 weeks is really good. even if you gain 1 lb a week here on out, you''ll still be within the weight gain limit
5.gif

weight gain usually stops or slows by 35 weeks anyway.

I''m curious.....since your contractions are not causing dilation....are they BH then?

LIA, enjoy your time with your DH and settling into your new home.

lili, I think it''s BH but I''m not positive. Doc didn''t say it was BH and I never asked.

LIA -- geez, girl, you''ve had a lot going on! Sorry to hear about your L&D visits/issues and i''m glad something is working, even though you are stuck on bedrest! I hope you can continue to check in regularly so we aren''t all worried about you all the time, k? take it easy! (go back a cpl pgsto see my latest l&d visit -- procardia seems to be working for me ok tho)

Snlee -- yay for a positive appt! i''m glad your cervix isn''t making any more "progress" (is it still considered progress if it''s the opposite of what we want it to do? hmmm....)

quick update -- i HATE how i feel on the procardia. i feel sorta out of it -- not really dizzy or anything, but "foggy" in general. I guess it''s worth it b/c my contrax have calmed down, so i know it''s doing what it''s supposed to. I just hate feeling dazed and confused (unintentionally, that is
2.gif
) I''ve noticed that I''m not feeling the girls as frequently either, but they''re still moving around -- it''s not quite the same as the boxing match that''s been going on in there though :) I decided to tell my people at the rink this morning that they were girls, which was really fun to tell finally -- but every time i leave the rink at this point, i wonder if i''ll be back, so i decided it was time to spill the beans :) Hope you''re all enjoying the weekend...

Wow, that u/s is so detailed.
You can see your LO''s face so clearly.

Take it easy.

For the first week or so, it gave me a really bad headache and I felt like I was in a fog too. Hopefully after your body gets used to it, you won''t have the yucky side effects. The on call doctor mentioned to me that sometimes the baby actually moves MORE after taking procardia. I''m not sure if that''s true but I have felt stronger and more frequent movements. Of course I don''t know how he''d be like without the med. Maybe the girls are having some lazy days and it''ll pick up more. How often do you take it?

yay for telling people about the girls! :)

Hi again ladies,

Just a quick check in here, I am so wiped out. Between the excitement yesterday and the crazy baby resale event I went to today I have no energy. On the plus side I got two matching cribs, a matching changing table, a swing, a playmat, and a whole bunch of clothes, all in perfect condition for a whopping total of $162. I am so psyched. This resale is run by my local "Mom's of Multiples" club and it was soooo fantastic. Very well run, everything clearly marked and on tables, it was great. And SO cheap! It was also open to the public after the member's got in, so worth checking out if the clubs in your areas do the same thing. It was really a great idea. They do it twice a year, so I'll certainly go again.

And to draw your attention here... we thought about it last night and I don't think we're going to use the name Jackson. We really like it, but it doesn't "go" with Dexter. So what are people's thoughts on Elliot and Dexter? Any major issues with either name? We like that both are similarly nerdy, but not too "out there". Our last name begins with L and ends in "ton" if that helps. Middle names are totally flexible

NF - many congats on the twin boys!

Jen - tell those kids to stay put! Defying you already?

Erica - cupcakes rock! And carrot cake how did that turn out?

DD - I give you a lot of credit for not finding out gender. I just don''t have any willpower over this issue. Plus, I am so not prepared for a boy or boys!!

Snlee - so happy to hear your body is responding well to the rest and drugs! Cook baby cook!

Indy - congrats to you too on the little boys!

LIA - I pictured you like a "queen" directing it all. Please keep up the queeniness and make that baby stay in there.

Jas - love the BK story! I haven''t tried their rings, gotta get on that! No stretch marks???? I need the secret..............

I''m a wierdo but it is freaking me out a little to think of having a penis/ses inside me for 24/7!!! It''s all so abstract.
Stil feeling so strange, almost like the descriptions of moms on Tocolytics here. In a fog, underwater, slow, barfy and hungry at the same time.

I am having extremely vivid dreams. Last night I was in the Soprano''s mob and had to "watch" over a rival gang girl prisoner. I had reverse Stockholm syndrome and befriended her and helped her plan an escape!

What would Freud say? I really want to escape my situation as I am completely overwhelmed. I''m a bad gangster (literal). Or I just need to eat some pasta (again literal but true)? Maybe I actually was befriending a part of myself to protect from being completely controlled by my new-self. The mind reels.

I bought a "real life" baby doll for Olivia so she can start preparing for the inevitable. She has absolutely no interest in it. I caught her throwing it on the floor a couple of times and poking it''s eyes. This should be very interesting. I have no ideas how to introduce the concept of sibling/s to a 16 month old!

Oh and I think she wants to potty train early - joy! She rips off her diaper and hates getting changed now. She wears a size 5 and is outgrowing them fast. They only go up to size 6 and then you move into pull-ups - OY VEY!

Have a great weekend girls!

NF, I love the name Elliot (Eliot, Elliott, etc.), and think it goes really well with Dexter. Good work on the resale finds! There are a few events like that in my area, in a few months maybe I''ll feel more motivated.

Lisa, I gave up on the carrot cake last night. Too tired and cranky. I did, however, buy yoga pants with a foldover waist from American Apparel, and they are awesome! Speaking about abstract, though, I''m still having a hard time imagining there''s an actual baby inside of me, let alone a boy or girl. I also have nightmares nearly every night, with me waking up screaming. Hmmm. My mom keeps asking about my dreams, you know how superstitious Koreans can be...
2.gif

Great news on Olivia showing interest in potty training. I''m sure you''ll want to get that done as quickly as possible, otherwise, who knows how long you''ll have to change three sets of diapers. Yikes!!
23.gif

Snlee, LIA, & Jen, hang in there gals. Glad things are going OK at this point and sorry the drugs are bleuchy.

Lisa, love the account of your dream. It is weird when you let yourself think about the fact that the potential dudes growing in there aren't 'outgrowths' made of YOU, strictly speaking. It's tempting to think that we build them. But when you think about the weenie issue, it makes it easier to really confront that we really don't make our babies. We just tend to their environment and they do their thing autonomously, like good little snuggly parasites. It's nothing we do. They just do their thing and we host them, and try not to harm them. I've been having some doozy dreams too lately. My fave was that I was going to the basement of a building where I used to work with some friends of mine and their three year old because we needed to find the novelist Peter Carey so that we could get some tofu recipes. The three yr old sat down to fold his laundry. And everything was underwater, so we had to swim everywhere. Some obvious stuff in there. But still weird. And SO VIVID!!

And, like, what's with Peter Carey!?

NF, Dexter and Elliot are great names. Go for it.

Erica, phooey about tired and cranky. I suggest you tell DH to go GET you some carrot cake!

OK. I cave. Here's a belly shot from 13.5 wks. For comparison, my tummy used to be washboard flat (except after a big meal!) I'm up about 9 pounds at this point.

We are going sailing today. Yay! I'm so happy to be near the ocean again.

13wks.jpg

Indy Look at that belly! You are so cute! Just wait..the twin bellies seem to grow so fast from here, especially if your twins are behind one another. The resale was amazing yesterday to see how varying the size of twin bellies at roughly the same gestation was!!!
1.gif

NF I think Dexter and Elliot are great names... its funny you said they were similarly nerdy, because my first though was, "Those a both cute nerdy names!" Love it!

Indy well you completely look preggo you lucky lady, unlike me who still looks like she is just packing on the poundage, so you should probably chat with your work sooner rather than later or they will start getting ideas! Your plan of "attack" is a good one and I love that your company has so many potential supports in place in case of bedrest etc. Bite that bullet and go for it.

13w today! Welcome to the second trimester baby!

I just had a freak out moment when I went back to look at Jas''s 20 week weights for her boys...and they were only 14 oz! (I say only here in jest, as 14 oz is big even for a single at 20 weeks). But it makes me wonder if I''ll be the next record breaker for birthweight of twins.
23.gif
Mine were already a pound each. Yikes.

How accurate are those esitmates? I only ask b/c of stories like TGal's where they said she was going to have a 9lb baby and she turned out to be in the 7lb. range... or was that using a different estimating method?

I think babies must all grow at different rates, but if nothing else it is great news that yours are where they are now esp. since Jas has gotten such great news about her babies--that they are big and probably won't need a hospital stay when they are born!

Or maybe you will have two 10 lb babies... LOL!! KIDDING!!

They aren''t that accurate per se, but I guess are accurate enough to know what''s "normal" for certain gestations if that makes sense. Let''s just hope that if they are off they are more likely to show too heavy than too light.

Can you imagine? 2 10lb babies!?!?

Bigger is better at this point, since since it''s 50/50 that they''ll pop early! So be happy and proud! And I am SO on the PS twin-mommas weight gain plan. You ladies rock!

Can I be on the PS-mamas twin weight-gain plan too, even though I only have one bun in the oven?
3.gif

You bet, DD!
2.gif
If you aim for 35lbs (upper end of healthy gain), we can meet you there (lower end of healthy gain for us). We'll have a 35lb pregnoid pooch party! Yay!

Actually, I suspect I'll be up closer to 40 or 45.

And I am hoping for less than 35, but it will be what it will be! I have only gained 2 lbs in the last 4 weeks, and it was all on my vacation back home! (too much eating out) so I think I am doing good. I am plump already so less gain is good.

hi all,

back home after being out of the country for 2 wks...

congrats to neatfreak on 2 boys! i love both names you''ve picked out...

lisa, no preference on gender - but it would be great to give olivia at least one little brother :)

glad to hear everyone else is doing well and things are moving along in preggo land...more later!

Neatfreak, I love both of those names. Elliot''s on my (very long) list of potential boy names.

Indy, your belly is so cute.

DD, my understanding is that determining size by u/s is much more accurate early on. By third trimester, it''s not that uncommon for estimates to be +/- 2 lbs.

My mom''s leaving very early tomorrow and then I have to go back to work. I don''t want my vacation to end.
39.gif
Off to bed now...

Indy -- great belly shot!! I looked like that around 9 weeks, so you are sittin' pretty
2.gif

NF -- I like the names too! I don't know why, but when I read "dexter" i thought of the name "owen" even though they have nothing to do with each other -- just thought i'd share. i came really close to naming son #2 "oliver" way back when, which is sorta close to those, so that's probably where i got it from...

Blen -- sorry your vacation had to be over
7.gif

DD -- when i had my singles, i gained a LOT and lost most -- i think everyone gains differently, honestly. I haven't had room to pig out in a LONG time, and i continue to gain... anyway, i had big, healthy singletons, so it was worth it :)

i'm definitely on a heavy twin weight-gain schedule -- at 29w 4d I have gained 57 pounds!! (NOT a typo!) What's funny to me is that, even though i look 40w pg, with my boys i expanded a lot all over the place, and with these girls, most of my weight has gone into the belly and bbs
3.gif
I mean, i'm bigger all over, but not nearly in the same way as i was with my singles (i actually look better even though i've put on all these pounds!) I don't see how i can possibly gain even 1 more pound since there seems to be no room, but then, i have HUGE stretch marks. As with my boys, it's all worth it in the end if they're healthy! Good night!

It's funny you say that because Owen was on my short list too! Love that name, but DH isn't in love with it. We both love Elliot/t (not sure on spelling yet), so that is our compromise. I love Oliver too, but again, DH doesn't *love* it.

And I was totally wondering about Jas too!!! It's about time to meet those boys of hers! Jas, we're thinking about you if you are out there!

Jas mentioned in another thread that she was taking a little PS break for a couple days, I think there was too much drama in another thread for her taste... you know how it can be sometimes. I''ve needed a break on occassion too.

Congratulations Neatfreak! I love the names too

hi everyone!
quick check in...had another appt today and everything is status quo. still dilated, but not worsening so that''s great news!! but remaining on strict bedrest of course. ugh! we talked about adding oral meds like jen and snlee to stop the contractions, but i really want to hold off for now and my ob is ok with that (as long as i promise to return to l&d as needed!). i did get in trouble over weight gain though. i think i must just be depressed because even though i feel like i''m eating a ton, i''m not gaining anything. like seriously, 1 lb in the past 7 weeks. i''m up a total of 12 lbs at 29 weeks! and i''m pretty small to start with, so i got the big lecture today. oh well...gotta start force feeding the ice cream, i guess!! (a friend brought me a pint of cake batter from cold stone yesterday...YUMMY!!)
we are getting settled into the new house which is nice. ifeel so badly not being able to DO anything. my mom ended up flying out last minute from LA to help over the weekend...it was great to see her and have her help!

snlee: so glad that you''re doing well and are down to the every 2 week appts. i have to keep mine at every week for now, but that''s ok. it''s the highlight of the week...at least i get to GO somewhere, right?! :) i can''t believe you''re already almost 32 weeks!

jen: sorry to hear how the procardia is making your feel. i hope it evens out soon. i asked about going on it (instead of oral terbutaline), but my ob wouldn''t do it b/c she said it would drop my BP way too low. and then she said, "well, that IS a good way to make sure someone really sticks to their bedrest!" haha.

NF: love love love the names!! they are perfect and adorable! we STILL haven''t come up with a name we love (guess it''s good we only need one, right?!).

lisa: good luck with the potty training! if you can get there, i''m sure it will be GREAT to only have one in diapers at a time! how are you feeling? the morning sickness is the WORST. hang in there!!

erika: i hope your nightmares get better. do you remember what they''re about? i had REALLY vivid dreams around 12-17 weeks, but they seem to have died down now.

indy: AWESOME belly shot. you look GREAT! how was the sailing? ooh...what i''d give to be able to spend the day on a boat!

DD: congrats on reaching the honeymoon trimester! you''re gonna love it!! fwiw, my hubbie and i were also really torn on whether to find out baby''s sex or not. i wanted to...he really didn''t., like REALLY didn''t. i pretty much acquiesced and we weren''t going to find out. but then, about a week before my scan, out of the blue, he said, "you know, if you want to find out, i''m ok with it." and he was. and we did. and i''m glad! but, of course, there is something to be said for that moment in the delivery room when you find out.... i really don''t think you can lose...

sbde: welcome home. would love to hear about your trip!

blen: sorry to hear you have to go back to work.
7.gif
hang in there!!

kay: hope you are doing well! we haven''t heard from you in a couple days.

pave: you too!! hope you are ok!

janine and curly...updates???? you too are CLOSE now!!! can''t wait to meet all the new little ones.

jas: hope you are good. anxiously awaiting an update. and hope your inlaws are cooperating!!!

Hi Everyone! Hope y''all are well- just a couple of quick questions-
has anyone read the book by inamay gaskins about midwifery? not spiritual midwifery but a follow up book? It is awesome- empowering and full of positive birth stories.
Also, is anyone considering using/did use a birth doula and or hypno birthing? I have been reading a book on hypnobirthing and I would love to "meet" a person to see how it went?

I can''t catch up on everyone but...
Neatfreak- Congratulations on twin boys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!That is so exciting! Glad to hear that everything is going well/growing well! I know I still owe you a picture.

Lisa Congratulations to you too!!! NOt sure if I already said this as I have totally lost track. Hope your m/s is getting better.

LIA, SNlee, Jen keep the babies where they belong!! Glad to hear that things are going ok for all of you! LIA I hope you don''t have to add the oral meds. Jen are the side effects going away yet? Snlee I am glad you got to go to q 2 week appts.
have a great day everyone! Take care.

Pave, we will probably hire a doula if it looks like I'll be able to have a reasonably natural birth. I gather that there are going to be amazing numbers of doctors and machines regardless, because of the complicated twin situation, but even there, having a doula who can advocate and help me stay on top of what's going on would be a big plus. And if it's possible (and no c-section), I'd like to try to go without meds. Just to prove that if my mom can do it multiple times, I can do it too.
3.gif
It's an Everest thing. You know, a challenge, just for the sake of the challenge.

So a doula would be a big help there.

LIA, so sorry you are feeling down. Hopefully the ice cream will help fatten you up and cheer you up! But you've had such a tough stressful time that I'm not surprised you're having trouble. Hang in there, girl.

DH''s quote of the week:

"You''re on bed rest, not BRAIN rest."

Hi IG thanks for the speedy reply. Yeah I think a doula will be helpful for just about any birth- I hope you get to have the natural birth you want, even though there''s gonna be lots of support staff there. I kinda feel the same way you do. I want to try for natural birth because the more I read, the more I realize it is a natural process. I am afraid of pain but am hoping the hynobirthing/doula combo will help me through it. I am a nurse and a fan of pharmaceuticals but I dunno- it just seems like I should be able to do it if all of these other ppl can, you know?
Are you settled into your new place yet? I can''t remember but think that you have already moved? You probably already know how to find doulas but in my area, there are a couple of birthing centers and they have "meet the doula night" where you can meet a bunch at once, and then kind of weed out from there who you click with, etc. There is a crazy range of prices too. In my area, its from a few hundred dollars to 1500 dollars!!! Ouch!
