Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

NF, oh okay! Just didn''t want her to think she should have a BFP 9 days out b/c that would be unlikely for a singleton. Though twins *ARE* common on PS so you never know
2.gif
3.gif

Lol. You''re right, that''s why I was trying to say that most people get BFP''s later than me, but I didn''t word it correctly. I blame preggo brain!! And BTW, Tessa just gets cuter and cuter everyday!

Thanks Tacori and LL! I guess all I need to do to make sure people know I am pregnant and not just fat is to walk around sideways with my shirt pulled up and with a comparison picture from a few weeks ago
20.gif
! LOL!

HAHAHAHAHA!

Tacori - I guess the worry never really ends, huh? YIKES!

and I gotcha NF! No worries...

Oh, and TWINS!!! holy cow! Interestingly enough, DH's brother and SIL are having twins in February. They had infertility issues and treatments...

I'm still wrapping my mind around one!!!

ETA - Tessa is freaking adorable. She's so darn cute.

Lysser don''t know if you have read back, but there are FIVE, count them, FIVE PSers preggo with twins right now: Jas, Indy, NeatFreak, Lisa, and Sk8rJen!! Don''t drink the PS water, girl, you may be next!

How funny -- I was just thinking, "hmm, i wonder if *she''s* going to have twins" haha

seriously, lysser, it''s an epidemic here

... fwiw i got my first FAINT bfp at 10 dpo and then it was a bit more convincing at 11 dpo. I have a nie progression of cheapie internet test strips getting darker and my 2 FRERs which were MUCH better earlier... anyway congrats again!

DD -- i love your little bump!

Wow - what is it about PS belly pics that are so da*m cute?

You guys are so small and well-dressed bunch! Especially DD in all her cute outfits!

Indy - I can't believe you have 2 babes in there! Even in all my 1st pg. glory I never looked that small and, well, elegant (this seems like the right word). Seriously I am almost as big as your pic. now.... What if the Dr. missed a sac???? Don't think that hasn't crossed my mind.

Snlee - I yelped out loud at my computer seeing your 32 week "elegant" bump. I too lived in those stretchy yoga pants from Old Navy. They were like $14 each! Currently, I seriously can't manage to put on proper clothes. I feel all hot and sweaty and miserable.

A big welcome to LL!!! I'm not that ahead of you and we can commiserate over 1st trimester bleuch..........

Regarding HCg - there is slight evidence that higher HCg levels are correlated to multiples. Trust me I went biserko on this one during the early days. My BW on 10 dpo was 185 miu and 4 days later was 1,005 miu. You can calculate your doubling time, mine was 39.3 hrs/1.6 days. This is considered fast. Most levels double every 48-72 hrs for singletons. This is pretty consistent w/ multiple gestation. Then we saw the 2 sacs last week - ah ha.

You'd think that the FRER test would go super dark right away w/ 185 miu but it was a pretty faint line. Now the digital popped-up in under 20 seconds.

LIA - Don't know much about having to try to gain the weight but here's to hoping you can pack it on! I remember the scale going up and up and up each week. I really wasn't eating all that much more food. I think the majority was water gain, placenta, other stuff. My mom got GD w/ her 2nd pg. and horrible stretch marks w/ me so I was attempting to control fate. At delivery I lost 20 lbs! And only had about 10 to drop on my own. Most of it was fluid intake from IV's.

Delivery - Olivia went post-dates and I wanted her outta there! We got induced at 40.5 wks w/ Cervadil and bam at 2AM I awoke with a troll jumping on my pelvic floor. My water broke and it was "ON." I dilated from 0-4 cm in 2 hrs and levitated off the bed in pain. At 4AM I asked for some stadol and as the RN injected it told her I NEEDED the epidural STAT!!!! The epidural was done during 2 horrendous contractions and then the marathon to 8 cm began.

At 7AM I was 8cm and stalled (failure to progress).............The Dr. thought del. was any second b/c he kept saying "when you feel a bowel movement let us know." A bowel movement....I still felt the baby ready to blow-out of my nether region! Then her heart tracing was all over the place and they gave me an amnio-infusion then Pitocin. She got a fetal scalp electrode. Still nothing. By 1PM it was clear that Olivia wasn't comin' out the vajayjay.

It was a good thing that we had the c-sect at 1:32PM. Baby was "sunny-side up," she had the cord wrapped around her foot and body and I had a contraction band on my uterus that made it impossible for her to descend properly. In fact we would have died in childbirth if it was another era.

Now, did our complications arise from induction or were they there waiting? I guess we'll never know but we had a healthy baby/healthy mom at the end of it all and what more could you ask for?

So I do have the choice of VBAC or c-sect. and I'm going for the section. Especially if we have multiples. Labor was a scarefest for me.

Now I should say I was totally on board w/ getting pain drugs and having any intervention done during del. I had worked w/ too many delivery horror stories so I'm skewed.

7.3 wks

DD, you've got a DEFINITE baby bump!! You look totally pregnoid! Super cute! And cute skirt too. I'm on a mission right now to wear every piece of clothing that still fits while I still can.
34.gif

LL, it is soooo normal to be disbelieving and feel freaked and P on like 60 sticks. And yeah, girl, the next few weeks are WAY worse than the 2ww, partly because it's now a 10ww. I know that sounds hard to believe - that it's harder I mean - but that seems to be a common consensus! And hey, just be glad your wait is 10 weeks! I have a 37 weeks wait given the mono-chorionicity, until they are safely breathing out in the world. And regarding the twins epidemic, the weird thing is that all of them, with the exception of Lisa and her hard fought-for miracle babes, with whom we are all still holding our breath that sac two develops further signs of embryonic life, all the twins on here were spontaneous, meaning no fertility treatments of any kind. I calculated the odds at one point that that would happen in a given group of pregnoids of this size and it was hilariously remote. I'll see if I can find it...

SnLee, you belly is so darn... ELEGANT! I hope I look just like that as mine grows. You have a gorgeous middle.

Jen Don't be impressed quite yet! Just cause you say you WANT to climb Everest don't mean you can actually do it! I just know (naively?) that I want to try. Mostly because I want to follow what my mother did. I don't know why that's important to me! Just feels like I want to have the experience that she had, if that makes any sense.

OK, I am so not hungry and it's lunchtime. What is up with that? Usually I'm gnawing off my own hand by now. Maybe them kids are done their current growth spurt. I wasn't as tired yesterday either.

Is anyone else able to feel their belly stretching? I had this 'aAARGH!' horror movie moment thing last night where I felt like I was being stretched. It was G.R.O.S.S.
14.gif
Maybe I ate too much yesterday. My weight DID jump 4 pounds in less than 24 hours!!! Back to normal(haha) this morning.

35.gif

Lisa, when''s your next appointment? The suspense! The suspense!!!! Are you feeling any better?

Indy I can''t wear any of my bottoms at all, so no more pre-preggo stuff for me! Tops are ok though. I have felt a little stretching, but I read elsewhere that many women feel this right before the POP big time! You may go any moment! (Take cover ladies, she''d gonna blow!!)
11.gif

Lisa when''s the next u/s? Can''t wait for an update. And LOL at your comment about "small and well dressed"... I am trying with the fashion, but small is not a good descriptor. Trust me, it is the photo. LOL!

lover in athens - it was a work trip. i usually have to be out of the country every 6 wks or so for meetings and such. i''m definitely not going to be able to travel much longer, as the dr. wants me to stop when i''m in my 3rd trimester. have you made it through that cold stone ice cream yet?
5.gif

snlee - thanks. btw, you totally have THE cutest belly i''ve seen on PS - you look great for 32 weeks!

kay - thanks for asking abt the u/s! it was amazing!!!! to tell you the truth, at times i feel kind of lost/sidelined in the preggo crowd - maybe it''s because i''m not as regular a poster, but generally we''re all waiting with bated breath to hear the results of each other''s appts and ultrasounds. i know i posted my big u/s date here, but since no one really asked abt it yesterday i felt a bit weird just coming back and updating on what is up with me...

Silly goose! Of course we want an update, no one asks me about my meeting etc., just jump in! We always want to hear anything you have to say!

Did you find out the gender? What are you having?

PS where is your belly shot, hmmm?

Cute baby bump, DD.

I bet that when you finally have "something" to show that you''re pregnant, it becomes a little more real.

What week mark does a person need to get to in order to deliver a healthy baby, in general? I thought I remembered reading that after 32, it''s believed that a baby will be okay if born. But a preggo friend of mine said you have to get to 36 without having to do the NICU thing.

I guess it''s a baby by baby decision, but I was just curious.

Thanks NF & LL. She is getting so big! Okay...back to lurking

Fisher, you and your friend are both right! After 32-33 weeks, the chances that your baby will live are 95%, and the rate of serious disabilities drops to about 10%. So, from that perspective, your baby "will be okay". But until about 36 weeks, babies don''t have enough fat on their bodies to regulate their temperatures, and sometimes they can''t breathe on their own, so if they are born before then, you usually (but don''t always) have to do the NICU thing, even though you can expect that the baby will indeed, end up being OK when they come home!

Hope that helps.

If I remember correctly it is 25-26 weeks. Obviously a baby born that young has a tough road (and probably major problems) but it is possible. My brother was born at 28 weeks. He weighed 2.5 lbs and dropped to 1.5 lbs at his lowest. He spent 3 months in the NICU. He is very lucky and besides hitting milestones later is a normal, healthy, sweet, smart 22 year old. The lungs are usually developed enough around 36 weeks. Maybe that is what she read.

Tacori is right that your baby still has a chance to live and be healthy if it is born before 32 weeks, starting at the point of viability (is that 24 wks? 25?) But the chances decline rapidly with each week of prematurity. Higher and higher rates of serious permanent disabilities like hearing loss, physical disabilities, etc., and under 32 weeks gestation there is an average (AVERAGE! mind you) permanent loss of 15 IQ points. Plus, mortality rates go higher and higher the earlier the baby is born too. So, while babies still have a chance once they are viable to be perfectly healthy and fine, the later they gestate the better! And after 32-33 weeks, you can breathe a sigh of relief because the stats are REALLY on your side!

DD, none of my bottoms fit either! Yikes! Except for super loose or elastic-waisted skirts, which still fit under my belly with tops over them. I'm all about my empire waisted dresses at the moment. I think I can squeeze another 3-4 weeks out of them. Yay! I just don't want to get too sick of my maternity clothes too quickly, cause I don't want to buy too many of them. Luckily, there is an Old Navy in the next town over, so at least I'll have somewhere to go for cheap tops and things.

I know you are worried about your babies, but they are going to be great! How can they not be with such a strong mama??

I also am wearing lots of my dresses still, most are empire waisted. I can''t even wear my stretchy excercise pants anymore, they dig in right in the wrong place. Hey did you tell your work yet about impending motherhood? How did they react. I am telling mine this week. I have drafted the e-mail I plan to send to all my faculty collaborators/formed supervisors and am awaiting comments from my close academic friends. I decided to go the e-mail route so I could be sure they all got the news from ME and not from my gossipy supervisor, and also so I could address their concerns about what this meant for my career plans (i.e., nothing!) and also so I don''t have to deal with their incredulous and disapporving faces in person!
20.gif

All you preggos who work in a semi-formal environment How much maternity clothing did you buy? I now have one pain of jeans, three casual-type skirts and two formal skirts, one formal dress and two day dresses, and I plan to add a pair of formal pants soon. I don''t need tops yet since most of mine will last well into the second trimester, but will probably buy 3-4 dressy tops and as many casual ones?? I can''t get away with stretchy pants all the time unfortunately since I am teaching a second year class this fall and don''t want the students thinking I am a fat hobo or something
20.gif
, nor can I get away with wearing the same thing too often, or they will think I am just lame.

Hi everyone- just have a quick sec-
Just got back from my 21 wk appt- it was good. I am on a high cause I think I just love my doctor. I talked to her about the doula, hypnobirthing- stuff. She was positive about it and understanding that I kind of was moving away from wanting interventions, etc. That reassured me that I am with the right person for sure. Anyhoo. My f/u u/s is tomorrow and hopefully it will be nothing.

Just wanted to say sbde of course we want to hear about your u/s. spill- one word isn''t gonna do it. Please don''t feel like we all don''t care- sometimes things just get by us. I can relate to you because I am terrible about posting at times and then I feel funny coming back in. But luckily the people here don''t seem to hold it against me and they are always supportive. just my 2 cents.

I gotta run but will try to catch up later!

Quick drive by...I had a call into my OB about a couple meds I am taking...both Category B...but I wanted to see if they had any additional info...

And I mentioned the test difference...and to her credit, the Doc didn''t laugh...but pretty much told me to STOP testing...cause I''m prego...and pretty much said everything you wonderful folks already said!!!

Alright, I''ll be back later...but I am going to STEP AWAY FROM THE TESTS!!!!

I know you are worried about your babies, but they are going to be great! How can they not be with such a strong mama??

Hey, girl! I was just answering Fishy's question. I was NOT talking about my twins.

Anyway, I'm actually, day to day, very positive and really not worried. I'm not in denial either, because the risks are not remote and it would be stupid to say "everything is fine!" But I am 98% living by the 'we'll worry about it when it becomes imminently something to worry about' philosophy, and working with "everything is fine right now, and so I'm not worrying right now". Seriously, I'm ridiculously chill for someone in my shoes. Or any shoes. Those are the facts. I have faced and digested them. Fishy just asked, so I answered. That's all!

As for announcing. I tried to go tell the 'Boss' today but she wasn't in her office. I did, however, discover from one of the secretaries that the woman who had a very similar position to this last year had a kid while she was here. I happen to know her slightly so I sent her an e-mail to ask about the 'popular response', and she said they gave her exactly 0 hassle. She just put in an appearance whenever she could and it was A-OK. She also recommended a pediatrician, several second hand baby clothes shops, and gave me some tips about the local hospital. I'm currently in love with her!!!

I wonder... DD, do you think an e-mail announcement is the right way to go. The news will circulate regardless, but sending out a mass announcement will make it into an 'issue'. I wonder if just telling your supervisor makes sense because it's her (his?) business. Here's what I would say would be the acid test: Do you think you would send out a mass e-mail about some other personal event in your life that might affect your performance? A wedding? A death in the family?

But really you have to gauge that, given your work context.

I think it IS appropriate, a few months before you take your leave, to send an e-mail around telling everyone you're going to be away and how they can get in touch with you ... if they really have to!

That's just my 2 cts.

I'm not worrrriiiiieeeed! Gee WHIZ people, I was just answering Fishy's question.
2.gif
Sheesh. Fishy asked a question: is 'safe' 32 weeks or 36? I don't think she was even talking to me specifically? She asked, and I happen to have just finished all three of my prego-with-twins books, so I knew the answer and offered the info. Fishy's friend is right that keeping those babies in there until 36+ weeks really matters, but that Fishy is right that after 32 weeks, it's probably going to be OK.

And an 'average' means that half the preemie babies are higher than or closer to normal average IQ, so of course some will be A-OK while others are not. Average is average, not destiny.
4.gif
My grandmother was also premature and she is whip-smartest of whip smart. So that just means, averages wise, that some other poor now-88-year-old kid was extra dumb to average it out.

Quick drop in cuz I miss my Preggo gal pals.

I have disproven the whole bake/labor corrolation. Sadly.

Dr. appt. yesterday. NST, fine. U/S -- Babies are 6lb 8 oz and 6 lb 13 oz...lotsa fluid, moving, happy as clams. My cervix is less than a cm long, still 3 dilated. Having contrax every 7-9 minutes, non-painful, not particularly productive, but hitting some high-marks on the scale. Was told again to expect it at "any moment." Which means probably still waiting until the 8th.

I''m a little worried that I''m getting so used to contrax that when the "real ones" hit I won''t notice and then end up giving birth in the car. With my husband standing there with jumper cables and a dog mat.
3.gif

And just a quickie cuz I''m saving the snark for my new book...my dr. is out of town this week. The gal covering for her apparently went on a few dates with my DH before we met. I cannot tell you all of the funny that this produces in my wee little brain!

LIA -- hope you''re still doing well. Hopefully you are over the hump with all the stressors in your life. I really am so impressed that you''re handling a move right now! Hang in there with those contrax and good for you for advocating for yourself!
Jen -- Glad that you are handling the meds a little better, but still, that must be rough. I hear you about being "all over the place" -- my twins are finding new dimensions and new organs to blast off of every day.
NF -- I adore the names you chose! Although I''m still sticking with Jackson for baby A. :) Don''t go by my measurements for twins. I think I''m going to be on the Discovery Channel -- the woman who gave birth at 48 weeks to 30 pound twins. And a washing machine that somehow got up in there.
Lisa -- I totally get what you''re saying about having two little peenies inside you. The first time someone told me that, it took everything I had not to make a joke about the last time was in college...good times. Sounds like Olivia is growing up so fast!
Indy -- you look fantastic. Was the sailing fun??? I miss hanging out at the beach. Actually, I miss going outside!!
DD -- I think size measurements do err on the side of big; however, I read that U/S measurements are, at most, a pound off. The other types (belly tape measure) can be off by much more. Hooray on the heartbeat!!! And double hooray on popping! I can totally see it. LOL about walking around sideways with your shirt pulled up. You crack me up.
Blen -- how are you feeling these days, hon?
Pave -- how ya doing?!!! I don''t know much about doulas/hypobirthing, but they sound like such wonderful options! Keep us posted.
Snlee -- Sending you bedrest vibes. I totally understand how you are feeling. Blechie. But holy cow, do you look phenomenal. I am insanely jealous of your perfectly sweet belly.
Erica -- how''s the doula interviewing going???
LL -- congratulations and welcome! This group is really wonderful!!! Although the twin contageousness is nuts around here. I blame ella.
Kay -- LOL, thanks. Yeah, she did. I have one of those hubbies who women shamelessly flirt with, right in front of me. He''s quite handsome and charming and very romantic (when he''s not all gassy). Wow TEN days of guests? You are a better person than I am! Do you know any of the details about your shower or is it a surprise? How fun! And yea on 33 weeks!
Sbde -- I''ve learned it''s not about how often you post. People here welcome you and CARE. I''d love to hear more about your appt.

Back to my pseudo-vacay.

Indy you just had those stats on the tip of your tongue, so I thought maybe you''d spent too much time looking into all the negative possibilities, so I''m glad that''s not the case.

As for an e-mail, I am pretty sure it is the way to go. If I just let it circulate, then I have no control over the information that is conveyed, and instead I will have to have 6 annoying conversations and answer the same annoying questions over and over again, and I am not sure when I would be able to sit down with each of them. I don''t want them hearing it second-hand. The main point of the e-mail is to address some questions they may have about how this impacts my career plans for near future (i.e., what it means for job interviews, start dates etc). And yes, if I was taking a leave for a death or anything else, I would also tell them this way. I *think* that the atmosphere in my department is very different than it was in yours, just from the stories. They are like my aunties and uncles. My very annoying and opinionated aunties and uncles!

so yes, i had my fetal survey u/s yesterday. it was so much fun...the dr. took a ton of measurements and confirmed that everything looks normal and on track. the level of detail we were able to see was insane...heart chambers, cerebellum...wow!

the shocker came when he told us the gender. for the past 10 wks i''ve been convinced i was having a girl...no particular reason why but i just had a strong sense...plus a bunch of the old wives tales were also pointing to a girl (high heartrate, feeling sick yadda yadda yadda)

well...it''s a BOY!!
36.gif

i made the dr. check twice just to be sure haha, but we are definitely thrilled. what with neatfreak and indy''s twin boys, it''ll be a blue fest here on PS pretty soon!
