Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

Pave my friend read that book and she loved it, I plan to read it too. Recently, two of my friends used midwives for their second births after having first births that were more typical (i.e., doctors, epidural, etc.) and they both preferred the midwife method. You should do whatever makes you feel the most confident and assured, whether that means a midwife and doula or a doctor and an epidural! Who cares what other people do, you should do what makes you feel the most confident.

Lisa, funny about the penis/ses. When we found out we were having a boy, DH got a kick out of it when I said "I have a p in me!" LOL. 3 more days until your next u/s!?

NF, I think the names you've chosen go together very well!

Indy, you look great! Cute tiny belly. Hope you had a fun time sailing.

dreamer, welcome to the 2nd honeymoon trimester! Enjoy it!

sbde, welcome back! Hope you had a good trip.

Blenheim, sorry your vacation has to end. Boo.

jas, please don't disappear on us! I love reading your posts. We miss you!

LIA, try to eat often. I know it's hard. I'm having the same problem. I'm not as hungry as I used to be since I'm not using much energy lying on the couch! Hope you can stay off the oral meds. I know what you mean...for 3 weeks the highlight of my week were those appts and the only time I took a step outside!

janine and curly, how are you doing? you're getting close!

jen, hopw you're hanging in there!

I'm 32 weeks - 8 months pregnant today! And so happy I made it this far! 3 weeks down and 2 weeks to go on strict bed rest. I think the baby is running out of room in there. I can feel him squirming in there and his body parts popping up. It's fun trying to guess what it is...his butt? knee? foot? I guess it only gets worse from here. I don't know how I can stay pregnant for 2 more months! I don't think I can get any bigger! I'm already so uncomfortable! I'm actually glad I'm not working anymore because I'm exhausted just lying here!

Indy, you have the cutest little belly! I''m really looking forward to having one of those, soon, too. Have a great time sailing!

LIA, I''m sorry you''re having trouble with the weight gain. You should borrow my mom for a while, she''s really good at constantly handing me protein shakes, fruits, and veggie snacks whenever I''m home. My nightmares usually involve a lot of falling and being chased with sharp objects. Pretty boring stuff, actually, but not surprising since I''m an anxious sort.
2.gif

I''m meeting with my prospective doula in a week and am really excited. She''s assisted at many births at my hospital and knows the midwives and OBs. Hopefully she can help me decide which department to work with.

Back to vacation/research mode...

Well, I guess I''ll pop in here really quickly and say hello!

I''m officially prego! Got my BFP yesterday. And again today. And, well, I''ll probably test tomorrow too! hehehe!!

According to FF, I''m 4 weeks and 1 day. Crazy. I still can''t get over it. I''m kind of crampy, tired, and bloated...but that is about it.

WIll have my first OB appointment on the September 24. They wanted to see me between 6 and 8 weeks, but their only opening was on a day that DH couldn''t come...so the 24th it is...I''ve not met the doc yet, but my GP/Gyno recommended her and practice group, so I''ll see how I like them...okay, I''m totally babbling...

I went to barnes and noble today and stocked up on some books...I got the Mayo book and "your week by week pregnancy"

Any other recommendations?

I''m still disbelieving...but thought I''d throw my hat in the ring, so to speak!

Since I haven''t posted a belly picture for awhile...here''s a 32 week pic.

IMG_5946.jpg

So I had midwife appointment number 2 today. Uneventful, my iron levels are good which suprised me a little since I am vegetarian I thought I might have low iron.

Funny thing is the u/s measurements at my NT scan put me almost a week ahead of my charting-based EDD?? We talked about this for a while and looked at my chart, and although our sex marathon that month (like 9 days in a row) makes it *possible* that I conceived 6 days earlier than I thought, the temperature shift and my cervical fluid certainly don''t suggest the earlier conception date. So we left my due date where it was. Boy am I glad I charted! If I hadn''t, these measurements would have put my EDD a whole week ahead of where it "should be", which *could* have meant unnecessary induction a week earlier than required! So I am really glad my midwife is down with charting and trusted that information... I''d rather have a baby one week "premature" than be forced to induce a week earlier then required.

One really fun this was that we heard the heartbeat using the doppler this time. That felt much more real that the u/s for some reason, which was so remote from my body. As I heard that whoosh whoosh whoosh sound I thought, "Man, there really is a little creature in there!" It was really cool. Though I still didn''t get all mushy or anything, I think that moment will probably wait until I actually hold the baby in my arms.

Yay! Welcome littlelysser! Congratulations again!

I've been reading Your pregnancy Week by Week and it's great. I also love The Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy.

LIA hang in there chickie, I think that it must be hard to be on bedrest when you are used to being very "take charge" in your life (my kinda woman
2.gif
) but this is probably one of those moments when you have to surrender completely to the experience. Eat like a pig. Let others wait on you hand and foot. Rent entire seasons of tv shows. Nap anytime you want! These can be fun things, and I wonder if you go all zen and accept it, then you may feel better about the whole situation? {{HUGS}}

Indy I ditto Erika saying your belly is so cute. I wish I had a proper baby bump, but I really don't!
39.gif
I just look like I've packed on a few pounds! I was asking the midwife if she could tell when I would start showing, and she said that I would have a bump for sure by 20 weeks. Twenty weeks!! I have to look fatso for another 7 weeks! Gaaahhh!! She mentioned it has a lot to do with how wide you are. So you and Erika are both slim-hipped and small, so the baby goes OUT. I am broad shouldered and hipped, so the baby can hide away in there much longer. Siiiggghhhh...

snlee that is awesome you have reached 32 weeks! I know you will get much further along and will even go full term, but it must be such a relief to know what even if your boy was born now he would be a-okay. Hang in there! How much are you allowed to move around? I can't recall if you ever told us. And AWESOME belly shot! I am amazed at how different bellies can look. Some stick way out but aren't very long, but yours is more long (i.e., the bump starts hgher and ends lower). You look great.

Lysser welcome officially! Sept 24 is totally a fine time to go... many docs and midwives won't see you until 10 weeks anyways, so you are fine going a little later. Good thing about going when you are passed 8 weeks is that if they use the u/s to see the heartbeat, then your miscarriage rates are really really low... earlier than 8 weeks you don't get the same "guarantee"... so a little longer wait now and a bigger payoff when you fianlly go! I can't believe you bought books already, I have done nothing like that yet. I think I need to get rolling. Once I tell my work then I will be 100% public and I will feel better about prancing around town and looking at baby stuff without worrying about being "caught"

Hi preggies--just lurking and hoping you are all doing well! I luv the new belly shots.

Indy--u are tiny

Snell--that is a perfect and small belly for 32 weeks! I remember playing 'guess the body part' --glad u have something to do while on bed rest ;-)

Neatfreak--i really like your name choices. Elliot was a name on my list as well and my pet lizard (whom i luv dearly) is named Dexter hehe. Guess we have similar taste!

Pave--i read Ina May's Guide to Childbrith and it was SO terrific. I actually kept bits and pieces of those stories in my head while in labor. It really helped. I also found the Bradley method book excellent . I used their cervix = neck of a sweater visualization technique to help dilate VERY quickly when i had a swollen cervix was at risk of a section.

RE: labor support: I didn't use a doula or midwife (was on a waiting list for a midwife and didn't get one in time) but i did have a massage therapist and she was essentially a doula. I don't think i could have gone pain-med free without a support person(s). Esp. when the stupid OB was trying to convince me to get an epi against my wishes! I can't stress how important it is to have someone be your cheer-leader. When the pain gets so intense that you will do anything to get rid of it, your coach is vital. When i told my 'doula' that i couldn't take it any longer I remember her saying "that's SO good--that means you are getting close--that's a good sign--everything is going perfectly"! That got my attention and I remembered reading about the transition phase and thinking "ya, this is getting unbearable. Can't get much worse so a baby MUST be on the way!"
I also found that i needed/responded more positively to the 'cheer leading' from my doula over my husband. I think it is because when my husband would say supportive things like "you can do it, you are doing great" etc. I thought to myself "what to you know" or "you are my husband, of course you think i am doing well", but when my doula said it i really believed her cuz i knew she had been to other births and she wasn't family.

i can't wait to read all the new birth stories in the coming weeks

''You''re on bed rest, not BRAIN rest.''

Haha! I thought all of pregnancy was *supposed* to be a break from our brain for a little bit...
2.gif

Pave -- yeah, I''m feeling a bit better on the meds except about a half hour after i take them -- now I just feel like I''m dragging. Sounds like a great book, btw!

Indy -- no meds? wow (bows down) -- i''m impressed. That''s something I''d *never* consider and I''m a competitive type, but I hate labor pain
2.gif
I hope everything goes well and your doc/hospital will let you do it!

Snlee -- yay for 32 weeks!! I know whatcha mean about lack of room, too... I''m glad you are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel now...
1.gif
I LOVE your belly shot -- you look great!

Littlelysser -- CONGRATS!!!!!

DD -- sounds like you''re carying a big, healthy baby in there
1.gif

Jas12 -- hi! thanks for checking on us!

jackie -- thinking about you!

i''m feeling a bit better on the procardia now (side effects are lessening). I definitely have less energy, but that could also be from getting bigger. I swear these girls are trying to tear my belly open -- I''m just SO stretched out! I am having LOTS of contrax, but the intensity is not as bad as it was pre-meds, so i guess it''s doing it''s jop which is good. Tomorrow I meet with the peri for the first time and I''m actually looking forward to it -- I feel better knowing there''s more than one doc looking after my girls. Plus, I should be getting another super-thorough u/s

We went on the roof the other day to watch the air show, and some blonde bimbo in a bikini (the bikini, by the way, does not make her a bimbo, neither does the blondeness. ''Twas the writhing around to show my husband her semi-flat tummy and ample b**bs.) said to me, ''OMG, when are you due...'' wait for it.....''you''re huge.''

I frickin hate her.
Chiming in late here, but . . . oh no she didn''t!

What a be-otch. She must have some serious self esteem issues if she needs to flirt with a married guy and try to make herself look better by commenting on his pregnant wife''s appearance. So. Not. Cool.

Hi Jas12- I just went back to april to re-read your birth story- so cool!!! I caught mrs salvo''s again too! Sounds like having experience with labor really helps the baby to come out faster(at least for her). So your story was amazing. You said you used the bradley method? that sounds like it worked well for you in conjunction with the massage therapist. This is the exact thing I am hoping for- being able to kind of be in a trance and just deal with it with lots of support that is and that I can stay home for a while to labor- I was reading your sentence about your adrenaline kinding shutting things down when you get to the hospital- its a shame that hospitals don''t seem to be more open minded, etc to really allow us to do our thing. I am kinda nervous about my experience with an ob vs a midwife but I am just not ready to leave my ob. I am gonna talk to her tomorrow at my appt and see how she responds to my questions/ideas re: labor/birth plan. I hope she responds positively and if she doesn''t then this may give me the push I need in case I should leave- I''m kinda looking for a sign, you know? Even still, I am trying to be open minded about the possible interventions- I mean I know things cannot all be planned out and no one can predict the future. I hope at least I can be supported by my drs/nurses, though in what I am hoping for.
I just talked to another doula tonight. I think I have hammered out who I am gonna pick. It''s kind of a big decision though.

Hope everyone else is doing great!
Kay- good to "see" you. HOw are you feeling?

DD glad to hear you had a good appt- and also so happy you had your charting to back up your EDD. sounds like that stuff if super helpful. isn''t listening to the heartbeat sooooo cool? I bought this amplifier from babies r us and I can usually find the hearbeat about once a day. I don''t stress out if I cant cause sometimes it''s just too hard with the gas sounds, static etc. It started working for me about 19 weeks and the package suggests 20 weeks for it to help. This amplifier got a bad rap on the reviews because you need a super quiet room and alot of patience. anyhoo, I am having fun with it.

Snlee- what a great belly picture. I really have to get on the stick and post.

LLysser- Congratulations!!!!! and welcome! Hope the time tillyour first visit flies by for you!

Indy I know what you mean about being ''embarassed''... somehow being pregnant feels very exposing to the world, and I haven''t totally been able to put my finger on why. I think partly it is because people then want to baby you and treat you like you are fragile, partly it is because it encourages people to want to touch you and ask you personal questions or comment and talk about your body in ways they never would before (''How much weight have you gained?'' ''You are showing!''
20.gif
), and partly it is because being pregnant is something so primal and animalistic. Many of usare used to being very cerebral in our work, and are so used to a firm separation between family and work life, and here comes family barging its way into our work! LOL! I do''t like a big fuss being made about me for something ''silly'' like growing a baby (or getting married, or any other thing that everyone and their dog does!) so I find the hullabaloo very strange.
I think you stated that very well. It seems like pregnancy should be more of a private thing -- but at a certain point everybody knows and they all want to comment. It feels very uncomfortable discussing things going on in my body or family matters at work.

Sorry I have been MIA. Work has been crazy and we have had house guests for the past 10 days straight (first DH’s best friend and then my parents). They left this morning and I just want to sit in my living room naked and revel in having an empty house. There are so many pages to catch up on – I’m sorry if I miss anyone.

Neatfreak, love the twins belly pic – you still look pretty small for having 2 babies in there. LOL re the "**** star boobs." Congrats on the boys and their healthy weights!

36.gif

Snlee, glad you like the ped. Can’t wait to see your finished cross stitch. I am making slow progress on the cross stitch I started, and now we are thinking of changing the nursery theme, so I can’t decide whether to keep going with the current sampler or start a new one. Glad you had a good appointment and your cervix isn’t changing. I wouldn’t worry about the weight gain – I asked my Dr. about that earlier because I wasn’t gaining much, and he said “the baby is a parasite and it will take what it needs from you." Cute belly pic.

Indy, cute u/s pic. Glad the NT scan went well. We found that test very reassuring. Yay for boys! LOL re "the family meal" – slightly gross but hilarious. Sounds like your workplace is very accommodating (part of me still thinks it is funny pregnancy is considered a disability – although it sure feels like it at times). You have a very cute little bump – it probably would not be very noticeable if you weren’t normally so slender.

Dreamer, great u/s scan. I think being very emotional is normal (at least that’s what I keep telling DH).

2.gif

Pave, I’m afraid gas is just part of the glamorous experience of being pregnant. I told DH the other day I feel sorry for him now that I burp, have cankles, don’t shave my legs, etc. (oh yeah, and then there is the beach ball under my shirt).

20.gif

Jas, yay for being off bed rest! I hear you on being done – being in the 3rd trimester during late summer sucks! It is so cute your DH read a bedtime story to your puppy – sounds like he is practicing to be a great daddy. Your MIL really pisses me off. Where does she get off telling you to put your dog in a kennel so you don’t “burden” your parents – it’s none of her freakin business.

29.gif

Lisa, congrats on the twins!

36.gif
I’m jealous – I wanted twins but I guess I didn’t drink the right PS Kool-aid. Sorry to hear the m/s is hitting you so hard. Puking in a car should be reserved for really crazy party nights.
2.gif

Gemma, sounds like you are crazy busy with work and home projects. I am planning to go out on leave sometime the week of Oct 6 (EDD is Oct 16), but it could be earlier or later depending on how I feel. I have several projects I need to finish, and people keep giving me new projects.

Jen, glad the shower went well. Congrats on making the big announcement. (I kind of wish we had kept the gender to ourselves – I am frightened of a potential onslaught of pink clothes, blankets, etc.)

Janine, glad you are doing well overall. Sorry the sleeping is difficult. I also am trying to stay at work as long as possible to use my leave after the baby is born – good luck. (And yes, getting up to walk to the printer, bathroom, etc. is quite annoying.)

Blenheim, glad to hear your family is so excited for you. I don’t care for Vegas much either.

LIA, sounds like you are having a rough time. I’m sorry to hear you are back on complete bed rest. Glad to hear the baby’s weight is good and your cervix is still long. Your u/s pic is really cute.

Erica, I hope you like the doula. I love vacation/research mode.

Littlelysser, Congratulations and welcome!

Sbde, how did the u/s go today?

I am at 32 weeks and 6 days today. The Dr. is pleased with the baby’s growth and there have been no complications so far – knock on wood. I get more uncomfortable every day, but that is to be expected I guess. I finally broke down and bought a full body pillow (Snoogle) because I have been sleeping so poorly. It does a good job of supporting my back and knees, so I think it will really help once I get used to it – it’s making me a bit too warm to have this big thing wrapped around me. My baby shower is in 12 days, so I am excited about that. I’ll try to post more later, but right now I am starving.

Thanks for the welcome ladies!

DH and I are still in a state of shock!!! I went out and got a few books yesterday and started reading - picked up the Girlfriends'' Guide to Pregnancy in addition to the two others. DH was making fun of me...until he remembered how many books I bought on choosing, adopting and raising a puppy. Apparently, it is in my nature!

Now, I have a question...

So I took a test that I got from earlypregnancytest.com this morning and there was nothing. Maybe the faintest of faint lines. I took a digi - and it said Pregnant.

Now, I''m a bit worried. Considering that I got a BFP two days ago...shouldn''t there be a higher level HCG and shouldn''t that show on a test? The lack of a second line is worrying me.

DH thinks the internet tests are bunk. I don''t know what to think.

Any thoughts???

Now, I'm a bit worried. Considering that I got a BFP two days ago...shouldn't there be a higher level HCG and shouldn't that show on a test? The lack of a second line is worrying me.

DH thinks the internet tests are bunk. I don't know what to think.

If the digi you took today is positive then don't worry! The most sensitive test can detect about 25 units of HCG (or even less if anecdotal evidence is valid!), whereas the less sensitive tests can only setect about 100units, and it can take up to 72 hours for hormone levels to double, so it could take a week fir the mto get high enough to be detected on the less sensitive tests. And apparently for some women first morning urine isn't actually the most saturated with hormones. I didn't see a change in the darkness of the line on my tests until about a week after I first got the BFP. And I DO think the cheapy tests aren't as good. I used the FRER and got a clear line, then used a cheapy and could barely see the line! If you are worried (which is normal, man I took a test every day for the first week and then once a week after that for the fist month probably) then go get a First Response Early Result, it is very sensisitve and if it has a line you are good to go! Otherwise, you may need to wait until you are over 5 weeks preggo to get consistent results.

The first trimester is really hard... there is just so much uncertainty and doubt and there is nothing we can do really to alleviate it! It really makes the 2ww look like a cakewalk. Welcome to preggoville! If it is any consolation, it gets better when you enter the second trimester, so you only have to wait another 9 weeks!
23.gif

Hi gals! Just popping in to ask a question about pregnancy testing. I recently bought some internet test strips that detect hCG at 20 mIU/mL (the lowest in the drugstore is 50 mIU/mL). They claim that you can test ask early as 7 DPO, but I''m just wondering if anyone has actually had experience with getting a positive result so early. And those who''ve used drugstore tests--when was the earliest that you were able to get a positive result? Thanks so much!

Peony and LL I got a BFP at 9 DPO, which is considered super early, and that was with an internet strip and I wasn't even SURE there was a line there. A few others have heard as early too, but most people don't get that BFP until like 11-14 DPO! So don't worry!

As for the internet tests vs. drugstore tests, there is a lot of variation in the HCG levels in your pee. Now that being said, finding out so early does mean that it's very possible to detect a super early pregnancy that will then just go away a few days later. But because there is so much variation in HCG levels in your pee, if you are still getting positives on one type of test, I wouldn't worry yet.

And LL, my tests didn't get significantly darker for over two days (and my levels were crazy because of the twins), so I wouldn't worry about it at ALL. For some people it gets dark quickly, for some it takes awhile. It's not an exact science unfortunately.

So I think I sort of popped a little this week! A little... I still don't look pregnant really, but my lower abdomed is firmer and rounder than it was last time I took a picture. At that time there was just a pudge bump
20.gif
but now it is a real bump I think! Here is a Dreamer collage for your viewing pleasure. Yes that's a new skirt, I went shopping yesterday!

DD - You rock so darn much! Thank you! The digi I took this morning (with the same cup o'' pee) said BFP...so I guess I''ll just relax. For a minute. Until I come up with something else to worry about. Cause I will!

This is way worse than the TWW!!!!!!

peony, I found out really early...2-3 weeks. It was so early the doc ordered a blood test b/c their urine test resulted a *faint* positive. It was a looooooong pregnancy.

NF, I may be wrong but with twins you will get a BFP earlier b/c of more HcG right?

Dreamer - I can definitely tell a difference! I see a bump!!!!

NF - THanks for the input. I''m driving myself crazy...probably because I don''t "feel" pregnant...and also, because I am a nutter!

Seems like most of us nutters on here didn't feel preggo until about 5-7 weeks? I started feeling queazy around 6 weeks, as did many others here. In the beginning the only feeling is maybe a sensitivity in the uterus area, or sore (*)(*), or maybe some changes in your skin (lots of preggos get acne). You will feel pregnant soon, don't worry!

LL, prepare for 40 more weeks of this (or is it 40+ years). The worry never ends....

DD, I see a bump

Thanks Tacori and LL! I guess all I need to do to make sure people know I am pregnant and not just fat is to walk around sideways with my shirt pulled up and with a comparison picture from a few weeks ago

peony, I found out really early...2-3 weeks. It was so early the doc ordered a blood test b/c their urine test resulted a *faint* positive. It was a looooooong pregnancy.

NF, I may be wrong but with twins you will get a BFP earlier b/c of more HcG right?

Often you do. My point was just that even though I had SO MUCH HCG running through my system I still didn''t get a BFP until 9 DPO, and even then it was super faint and didn''t get dark until a few days later. I probably wasn''t clear on that!

NF, oh okay! Just didn''t want her to think she should have a BFP 9 days out b/c that would be unlikely for a singleton. Though twins *ARE* common on PS so you never know
