Yeah blue twins!

Welcome to the club! And so glad to hear that they are thriving. So, you were on the same ''plan'', weight gain wise as JAS, right? A pound a week, roughly? How much are you at now if you don''t mind me asking? Cause if your boys are doing so well too, that gives me even more confidence in the course I''m on, weight-wise.

Yup, we are all in this together now for sure Indy!!! I also am roughly on the "lb a week" diet plan". But I had really bad m/s initially, so really some of that has caught up recently. It seems to be working for me for sure, most of it seems to be in my stomach where it belongs!

NF, congrats on two boys!! Woo hoo!

Jackie, itchy skin eh? Hm. OK, I can bring you back a little "like", but not all the love because I''m still super jealous.
3.gif
The itchy skin will hopefully cease after pregnancy? Because I can tell you now, stretch marks are forever souvenirs!!

NF, Congrats! Welcome to TEAM BLUE! Yay! More baby boys! So exciting! I am glad you are really excited about having two wonderful cute boys!

Indy, thanks for the link. I read about Sidelines in the twin book NF mentioned. I will look through that website today. That's great that your work is so accommodating if you get put on bed rest. Even if you want to stay home later in your pregnancy, that'll come in very helpful!

jen, ekkk! I'm sorry you had to go into L&D again! Good news about the negative fFN and that your cervix is still long and closed. Glad you are back home and the babies doing well. Your girls need to stay put! Be careful with the Procardia. It makes me lightheaded and dizzy sometimes. Sometimes I see stars like in the cartons when someone bonks their head and I'm not doing anything but laying down! So take an easy and be sure to monitor any symtoms you have.

Blenheim, that's great that your MW sees you in the comfort of your own home!

Did someone say COOKIES???
18.gif
I've loved baked goods through this pregnancy and I haven't had any for awhile!

Not much new with me. Hanging in there. My aunt is coming over today for lunch and bringing sushi. Can't wait! I'm starving! I have an appointment this afternoon. I'm glad it's the weekend so I can spend more time with DH. He's been super busy with work this week. I hope he doesn't work too much from home this weekend.

OMG, me too! I''ve been going mad for cake and cupcakes. Which is extra odd because the only really powerful aversion I''ve had was to a chocolate cupcake early on. weird!

Attention Pre-Term Labor risk moms and twin moms!!!

I just learned something it is good to be aware of, just in case and heaven forbid your bebes come early. Babies who are born prematurely or who weigh less than 4lbs, 6 ounces are entitled to social security benefits for disability for the time they are in hospital, and then for one month after they leave the hospital. Each baby gets medicaid & a substantial sum of money (around $600/month/baby) toward their care. What you do is call the ssa''s 1-800 number when they are born and open a claim (or someone else can do this on your behalf, as you''ll probably have other things on your mind). Then they set up a phone interview, and that''s it. It then takes 2-3 months and you receive the benefit for the baby.

God willing, NONE of us will be eligible for this benefit!!!
38.gif
But if it should happen, it can help offset the cost of staying close the hospital if you live far away, extra expenses or childcare while you''re in NICU, extra care and equipment for the infants. For twins, if they''re in the hospital for a few days to a few weeks, it''s $2500 for their care you could probably sorely use.

Just FYI. Who even would have known?

Yes, that was me. I made chocolate toffee cookies and quite frankly, the house smells heavenly.
11.gif

Indy I know what you mean about being "embarassed"... somehow being pregnant feels very exposing to the world, and I haven't totally been able to put my finger on why. I think partly it is because people then want to baby you and treat you like you are fragile, partly it is because it encourages people to want to touch you and ask you personal questions or comment and talk about your body in ways they never would before ("How much weight have you gained?" "You are showing!"
20.gif
), and partly it is because being pregnant is something so primal and animalistic. Many of usare used to being very cerebral in our work, and are so used to a firm separation between family and work life, and here comes family barging its way into our work! LOL! I do't like a big fuss being made about me for something "silly" like growing a baby (or getting married, or any other thing that everyone and their dog does!) so I find the hullabaloo very strange.

Neatfreak -- CONGRATS ON 2 BOYS!!!!! woo-hoo!!!!

Indy -- thanks for that info -- given all that is going on with me, i''m really glad to know those benefits exist (still, i hope we dont need ''em...)

Jackie -- our girls are grounded (hey, it worked for your boys!) -- so i think we need some cookies down here, do you do deliveries? (i really shouldn''t bake)
2.gif

Snlee -- thanks for the procardia warning. I already don''t like how it''s making me feel and i''ve continued to have several low-key contrax today, so we''ll see how the nest few days go. I''m finally going to see a peri on tuesday, so he''s my follow-up appt (he was already contacted while i was at the hospital yesterday) -- i''m praying i don''t have to join those of you on bedrest
40.gif
so how are *you* feeling?

Blen -- welcome back!

DD-- so when do you find out what you''re having? gut feelings? i thin we need some more pink around here now...

bbl...
jen

Jen, I hope you''re feeling better soon. That stuff sounds nasty.
7.gif

DD & Erica, I think you''re both on to something. It''s a mix between your body suddenly becoming everybody''s business, which feels weirdy-o, and, for me and it sounds like Erica too, a sense that others will judge us harshly for interrupting our work by having children.

So, I posted my ultrasound pic in the gallery on fertilityfriend. I figured I owed it to the ''community'' there, since it was all the other pics of identical twins that allowed me to know early on that it was mono/di. But MY u/s was the one that popped up on the front page when I logged in, and it freaked me out! I was all "Hey, those are MY kids!" Teehee. ACK!

In other news, recent studies I''ve seen suggest that that scary 25% mono/di mortality stat IS old. The current research suggests it''s now more like 18%. Hey, that''s 7% I''ll happily take! Hurray for less risk! Hurray! Hurray!

OK, back to work.

But first, NF, remind us of your boy names?

DD-- so when do you find out what you''re having? gut feelings? i thin we need some more pink around here now...
Well, against my wishes we are not going to find out! DH really doesn''t want to know. I know that if I push him he will agree, because he is very agreeable, but I''m not sure I want to push him. I have no idea about gut feelings... I keep thinking "boy" but I want a boy and we finally chose a boy name that we are planning to stick with
20.gif
, and we have no girl name as of yet... not even a list of contenders!... so that may affect my "gut feelings".

DD, I think it''s so funny that you have boy names picked out. Those have been the hardest for me to brainstorm.

Speaking of blue v. pink, I''m crossing my fingers for a girl, but at this point, I guess it''s out of my hands. I''m such a control-freak, I absolutely need to know the gender.

Indy, 18% sounds good to me! Anyone up for a cupcake? I''m going to try out a carrot cake recipe tonight. Yum, cream cheese frosting.

Erica, cupcakes? YES PLEASE! Do you know there is actually a cupcake-vending van down the street from my new office?! It sounds like a joke, but I''m serious. There are all these food stalls to serve the local lunch crowd and all the construction workers around here, and among them is this van that only sells cupcakes. Trouble!
9.gif

DD, couldn''t you find out and just not tell DH?

First of all THANK YOU to everyone for the happy shout outs. We are super excited! I have been able to do nothing today so far work wise, too busy shopping for baby boy clothes/bedding, etc. that is modern/clean and not filled with trains. Harder than it looks! I DID find out that American Apparel has adorable plain baby clothes, and they are on sale at Amazon. So I picked up a bunch of those in boy colors in 6-12 month sizes. Might screenprint them or something fun...

DD,Indy, and Erica I'm with you ladies. Being preggo weirds me out too. I think Indy nailed it on the head with the combo body issues/work issues for me too. Feels weird. But don't worry ladies, it DOES get much easier to handle once you get bigger and start to tell more people. I have become surprisingly Zen about it lately which is really great. I think you will all get there too!

Indy So our definite boy name is Dexter (Dex for short). Our other is probably Jackson, but we're not 100% sure on that one. So if anyone has any slightly offbeat but still mainstream enough not to be "weird" suggestions, we would appreciate it. If that makes sense! Others I love (but need to convince DH on them) are Elliot and Heath. So we will see...we both really love Dexter so I think that's one of them for sure.

NF,
Congrats on two boys!!!! That''s sooooo exciting. Yay for team blue!!!!

Interesting to know. Although I hope none of us will be eligible!

Indy, what''s your EDD? I noticed it needs to be added to the Preggos In Waiting List.

DD- A friend of mine with her first baby, wanted to know and her DH did not. So they compromised. they told the tech ahead of time to write down the gender on a card (which is now saved in the baby book). The next day when her DH was safely at work, she could open it! The pact was that she could not utter a WORD of what the gender was (she had a boy
1.gif
). It worked! She had a closet where she kept any blue baby clothes and she warned him to not to open it.

Funny though, with their second that they just had 5 months ago, her DH wanted to know!

Hmmm... I don''t think that finding out and not telling DH will really work. First, I don''t think I could keep it a secret, it would slip out somehoe, and second, if I found out and didn''t tell him and he ever found out I hadn''t told him, then he would be really hurt. I just wouldn''t want to be dishonest with him I guess about something as important as our child''s gender. I know in many couples it wouldn''t matter to keep a secret like that, they would probably both laugh about it for years!, but I know my hubby and he would be sad.

I think I really just need to decide how important it is to me. Up to this point I think it is more important to him NOT to know that it is for me to know, so I haven''t pushed the issue at all, but if my feelings get stronger we may revisit the issue.

DD, I certainly didn't mean to suggest that you lie to him about it! That would be unconscionable. I just mean that the tech could tell you and not him, and you could keep the secret from him if he wanted you to, like what Feb2003 suggested. But I totally see what you mean about it slipping out. That would be a bummer.

Indy, I never really like baked goods before. I'd only have small slices of cake, etc. But now, it's a whole different story!

jas, that sounds delicious! Enjoy them!

The hospital I'll be delivering at and doctor's office is near a cookie factory and the air outside often smells like freshly baked chocolate chip cookies! Yum! Such a yummy smell. Sadly, the air didn't smell like cookies today.

But my aunt brought over some cookies my cousin baked for me! What perfect timing! YUMMY!

HAHA... some women actually lie about it I think. Actually, I know what would happen if I knew and DH knew I knew. He would bug me and make me tell him

. So basically either we both know or neither of us knows!

Hi,

Just wanted to recommend a video link to all the Pregnant PSers - someone posted this on Fertility Friend. It''s a live video inside a woman''s uterus....of the journey of the Egg from ovulation through to fertilization/conception. It also shows how the embryo/fetus develops in each trimester up to the birth of the baby. They actually show the baby coming out of her va-jay-jay too.....

It''s a really good watch!

Oh whoops- I didn''t mean to imply that she opened up the envelope and then didn''t tell him. It was what they agreed on!

Sha, thanks for posting this. I JUST rented this video from Netflix and watched it the other night. Who knew this video is posted online!? It was very interesting! I highly recommend watching it.

hi guys!
wow...so many congrats to be had. i''m so thrilled for all the twin BOYS!! very exciting for both indy and nf!!!
and jackie, thanks for checking in...even though i haven''t been posting lately, i''ve been reading and anxiously awaiting the arrival of your little ones. by the way, did you ever find any cute puppy nursery stuff?
snlee: glad to hear you''re hanging in there!

sorry, i''m just not up to addressing everyone today. PLEASE know that i''m thinking about ALL of you, and i love reading your updates...
quick update on me.
had my weekly appt with ob yesterday, and unfortunately, i''m now 1 cm dilated (new). dh and i were sent directly over to l&D for monitoring and had to be given 2 doses of terbutaline, neither of which worked to stop the numerous contractions. btw...i HATE that evil stuff. finally, i was given 1.5L of IV fluids and then 800mg of motrin. seemed to do the job and then finally let me go home at around 11pm (got there around 3 after my ob appt). they were on the verge of keeping me overnight, but agreed to let me go if i returned if contractions came back. which unfortunately they did. started up around 3am, and i finally called at 7am and went back for MORE monitoring. this time, i was given another dose of motrin which seems to be helping.
yesterday, i was also given the betamethasone shot for the little one''s lungs. had to go back this afternoon (after spending 3 hours there this morning!) for my repeat shot. they wanted to put me back on the monitors, but i refused. oops. i promised to come back if the contrax worsened.
i''m also back on complete bedrest (had been downgraded to partial...whatever that means last week).
the GOOD news, which i didn''t mention earlier, is that a full u/s showed the babe at 67% for weight so at least he''s growing well, and more importantly, cervix is still nice and LONG. AND, the tech gave us a bonus 3d pic, which we hadn''t planned on doing but was soooo cool!! at first they thought i might have polyhydramnios (too much amniotic fluid), but a repeat AFI today was better. UGH....

AND, we MOVED today. i sat like a queen and directed traffic, but i feel horrible that dh is having to do everything. there is just SO MUCH that needs to get done and i don''t have the energy or ability to help out. really, really sucks. but we LOVE our new house so that''s good, and the dogs seem to love it too!
the other good news is that dh did really well with his surgery. he''s amazing...so not a complainer (unlike me!!). you''d never know that he was really uncomfortable. i''m just glad it''s behind us!

anyway, that''s the quick update. back to OB on monday for another check. hopefully will NOT change!!!
i''m impressed if anyone actually read this far!! :) snlee, let me know what you think of that bedrest website!!

Appointment update - The good news is I have appointments every other week (no longer weekly) until 36 weeks.

Doctor took a sample for a repeat fFN test in case there were changes with my cervix. Then she gently checked my cervix - phew! What a big difference fom last weeks internal. She ended up not sending in the fFN test since there's no change with my cervix - still soft, 2cm, and fingertip dilated.

Baby is still head down and probably doesn't have any room to flip - Woohoo! Baby's head is still pretty far up.

I've only gained 1 pound in 3 weeks (up 21 pounds total).
33.gif
I believe it's due to bed rest. The doctor didn't mention my weight. I don't think she's concerned so I will try not to be. Although I hope the baby is putting on much needed fat! My belly is getting bigger and I am measuring right on target so that's reassuring. It's getting really difficult to pee in the small cup!

I've been having contractions for a few weeks now but no more change with my cervix so they aren't too concerned. Some women have contractions normally around this time (even with Procardia/Nifedipine). The important thing is that the contractions aren't changing your cervix. Overall, a good appointment with good news.

Congrats NF on your boys.
Dexter is a super cute name...love it.

LIA, I'm glad you checked in! I've been thinking about you. You poor girl! I'm so sorry to hear about your L&D scare. Those terbutaline shots, IV, and steriod shots are no fun at all! You are a trooper! Hang in there! I am sending lots of thoughts to you for your baby to stay put and no more cervix changes! Glad to hear your DH's surgery and recovery went well and that you're moved into your new lovely house! Really cute u/s picture! Check in when you can. We can keep each other company since we're both on bed rest!

for a good appointment! and LIA I''m really glad that your pre-term labour is under control! Whew!

thanks snlee..
have you ever noticed that it''s sometimes harder to get things done when you have nothing to do??
i''ve been meaning to check in with you guys forever, but somehow i''m just caught up in the ennui of bedrest. (that''s a fancy word and i have NO idea if i used it correctly!).
but anyways, i''m going to try to be better. DH is off work all this next week so i probably won''t check in as much, but once he''s back to full time work, i''ll REALLY have all the time in the world!!
