Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

Whew, this thread is so huge it's hard to keep track of!
Thank you very much for all the well wishes, girls.

I finally got around to calling my baby doctor, and the conversation went like this:
Me: "I'd like to book an appointment with Dr X, please..."
Reception: "Errr (long pause) when did you last see him?"
Me: "Oh, when I had my last baby."
Reception: "Well he's been retired over a year."
Me: "Can I see the guy who fills in for him? Dr Y?"
Reception: "I'm sorry, he's retired as well...We don't have any birthing doctors at this practice any more..."

So now I'm back to square one, appointment with my GP (who doesn't 'do' birth) next week.

morning everyone! i''m writing today at a MUCH more civilized hour(7:30)...maybe that means i''ll be slightly more coherent...or NOT. :)

well, the bad-bedrest girl really was bad. i picked up my mom at my parents'' house (they bought a small townhouse here so that they can spend more time--they really live in LA) and we were driving down one of the main streets here when i felt REALLY faint all of a sudden. i got all week and sweaty and pale and had to pull of in the middle of the street to put my head down. not an easy task between my belly and the steering wheel! i felt better pretty quickly, but it was WEIRD and kind of scary. i *think* that maybe the baby stimulated my vagal nerve that''s on the diaphragm or something, b/c i wasn''t doing any of those other things that cause us crazy preggos to get lightheaded. oh well... now i''m going to be scared to drive even to my appts and i think that any more mani-pedis are officially out! :)

not much else to report, otherwise...

pandora: often the first u/s IS a dating scan, particularly in women who don''t know the date of their LMP. this can be done as early as about 6-7 weeks. what you''re describing is (at least here in the states) considered the first trimester nuchal transluncency screening test, and is usually done between weeks 11-13. they measure the fold at the back of the baby''s neck as an early way to look for downs syndrome. BUT...if it''s your first u/s, it will likely also be used to confirm your dates (um, and the number of babies in there!!). :)
also, so glad that your brother took the news so well. i''m sure he''s very excited for you! how are you feeling these days?

indy: i''m not even having multiples and i also started getting BHs around 17 weeks! it can be totally normal in any pregnancy... def check with you doctor to be sure though!!

jen: so jealous of your nesting. i can''t wait until i hit 36 weeks so i''m allowed to do something aside from sitting on my butt! and btw, i totally hear you on the watching sports things. one of the reasons i took up knitting is b/c i got way too into watching games and needed something to distract me a little bit!! you should try it...actually helps keep things under control. :)

Just popped in to check on the mommies. Some of you are getting so CLOSE to due dates now. Yay! I hope that everyone''s m/s and other complications and concerns roll on through to smooth sailing.

Jen, interested to see what names you end up choosing!

Just popping in to say I had BHs often and early too (with a singleton). Towards the end 30+ weeks they were very uncomfortable but not painful like the real contrax. She also had hiccups ALL the time (and still gets them).

Good luck mamas!

LIA creepy about the lightheadedness! I hope it was nothing, but perhaps you shouldn''t drive. Better safe than sorry!

Lara, bummer about having to find a new practice. But who knows? Maybe a blessing in disguise and you''ll find someone ever more fab.

Great names everyone!

Thanks, Tacori, Neatfreak, Jen, and anyone I missed for responding re the contrax. I figured they were probably normal, but every new adventure in this pregnoid thing is, well, a new adventure! I''ve been having a kooky amount of them over the last 48 hours. Sometimes they''re every 10 minutes, then they go away for a few hours then the odd one here and there, then back to every 10 minutes. I''ll mention it to the docs on Thursday, but from everything I''ve read and heard, it''s nothing to worry about unless they''re consistent.

Is it wrong that so far I think they are kind of cool? It''s like a roller coaster ride INSIDE. Yes, i''m aware of the potential seriousness, and i''m not trying to minimize that. But if you can''t have fun, even with serious stuff, then... ?

I''m just staying suuuuper hydrated and trying to chill a little. Kickin'' back with next week''s work. Getting a jump start.

DH just left for the week which is always sad. Sometimes I wonder how I''ll cope without him when i get really big and it''s hard to do stuff. Or if I have to go on bedrest. But we''ll cross that bridge when we come to it. And I''m sure we can hire someone if we have to.

Finished the first baby hat and a matching pair of booties. As always, modeled by our friendly neighbourhood frog, Farley. Poor Farley. Doesn't get to show his pretty face. Dude can't even see under there. But I'm sure he knows it's all in a good cause.

They are made from alpaca from Peru, to remind me of my trip last year. Mama's got a travel bug!

indy,
LOVE the hat and booties. too cute!!

also, does anyone know where janine is?? she should be about 39 weeks now, right?? i wonder if another ps baby has been born!???!

and gemma? where are you??

Hi ladies, I've had an uneventful weekend so far (woohoo!). Lots of nesting. I've been cleaning a lot since I can get up and move around now.

I've been feeling lots of period-like cramps, especially at night. I have difficulty sleeping. I'm exhausted all the time, even if I manage to sleep for 9 hours. I have to pee all the time and I keep checking the toilet paper for a nice surprise. Nothing yet. Still feeling lots of aches and pains down there.

I am so restless. The waiting and anticipation is getting to me. Time is going by so slowly.

I really hope I've made some progress at my next appointment! I'd be so happy if they find I'm 2-3cm dilated! Wishful thinking!

LIA, why are you up so early? Sorry to hear about the lightheadedness. Were you hungry? It'll be nice to have your parents close by when the baby arrives. I forget, where do you live? Are you in CA?

Indy, sorry, I missed your question about the contractions. It's normal to have them. I would call your doctor though if you're having them more frequently than every 15 minutes, just to make sure it's not doing anything to your cervix. I hope the week without your DH goes by fast! I know how sad it can be. I recently had a few days without DH and it's definitely tough when you're so emotional! Cute hat and booties!

Janine and curly are both due in a week! How exciting! Janine and curly,
35.gif
check in when you can so we know you haven't gone into labor!

Hi girls!! I haven''t had internet access at home due to our power JUST getting turned back on tonight! We''ve been without it for 9 days since Ike hit Houston and boy am I happy. We really take things for granted.

My first appointment was great! Didn''t get to hear the heartbeat with the doppler, but it did pick up the heartrate. I cried when she told us it was 148. That''s the first time it really felt real. The pap was very uncomfortable, but then again when is it not. We got to see our little tiny baby from the vaginal sonnagram! It''s amazing how tiny it is. Especially when my doc told me I have a cyst on my ovary that''s bigger than the baby. (Baby is 1.9cm and the cyst is 2cm) Ha.

They printed the little picture for us and I swear when you crop it and zoom, you can see indentions on the face. It''s looks like a little gummy bear!

I will be updating a lot more now and will be able to keep up with the rest of you gals.

Hi everyone! Sorry to have been MIA (again)-still here and still preggo!

Firstly Congrats to the new preggos!! What an exciting time! Lara great to have another Aussie on here!

Jackie you look great!!! No one would ever believe that you have just had a baby much less twins. And your boys

!

LIA, thanks for the shout-out-just super busy with moving house and getting things organised. I am very impressed with your knitting-particularly the snuggly bunny. He''ll love it! Does your OB want you on bedrest until 36 weeks? Yay for having your mom around.

Snlee, getting close! Yay for you and LIA for hanging on to those boys so well!! I''m glad that wasn''t your waters breaking!!!

Jen you look fab in your new avatar! Yay for hanging onto Sophie and Marina-how are you going with the PSD??

Janine and Curly, not long now!!

So I''ve been travelling well-still working FT, and we are moving house in a couple of weeks. Have had a bit of renovating to do which has been frustrating for me cos I can''t do any of it, and tiring for DH! I hope to be able to post nursery pics in the next few weeks.

Sorry not to have contributed more-I can back Tacori up re the Braxton Hicks-I got them regularly from 16-17 weeks with a singleton and now my whole belly balls up-it''s kind of freaky! But SO much fun being able to see the baby move from the outside. S/he gave the OB a big kick this week when she was listening to the HB. I''m still waiting to see if I need a mid trimester growth scan but I should know in a couple of weeks. My reading material at the moment consists of ''DIY tiling'' and ''Up the Duff''!!

One thing I''ve really enjoyed in the last few weeks is how people go out of their way to give me a hand! At work one of the techs carried a particularly heavy history for me, and one of the blokes working on our investment property went out of his way to do some extra work for us as well! So I guess the moral of the story is...if you''re renovating, get knocked up first because people will be extra nice

Sorry to have missed people-hope everyone has had a great weekend!

Oh and Pave I am glad to hear the first genetic test looked good! Please check in when you can!

PS Just wanted to add for those that asked after my friend who had the really prem baby-she is doing better. The baby has been extubated and will be in the high level NICU for another two weeks but will then be moved to a hospital closer to her home which will be great! It looks at this stage like she won''t need to go home on oxygen which is terrific news. Thanks again for your thoughts.

Pave, any more news about your baby''s heart?

Lisa, how you holding up?

Pandora, how are you feeling?

Gemma, glad to hear that everyone is being extra nice! I ALWAYS got a seat on the subway while I was in NYC, even when I insisted that I was fine to stand. Interestingly, it was always women who offered their seats... Thank heavens your friend''s baby is doing OK.

Courtney, glad you got to see the heartbeat. Neato, huh?

SNLEe so sorry that you''re feeling bleuch. Maybe that''s how nature makes us actually WANT to go into labor!

Hi Indy,

I''m feeling less stressed - but then I have just spent 3 days quietly at home on my own and today my boss is off sick so I haven''t been in any ''risky'' situations.

Still haven''t heard from my psych. so am going to call them again.

On the other hand I''m feeling somewhat icky and have hit the water biscuits (crackers) in a big way. I''ve told my main office colleague today as he was bound to do the ''why are you eating crackers - are you pg? ha ha'' at some awkward moment. Anyway, he has now been told that any remarks about cracker eating or pregnancy in general before I tell work and I will boot his a$$ down the stairs! He was sweet about it - and has been emailing me baby websites and atheist baby name guides all morning!

I love your hat and booties! I really ought to finish the shawl I started knitting about 4 years ago. It''s a very old Shetland lace pattern and supposedly it will go through a wedding ring when it''s finished. It''s in 1 ply wool and very complicated so it''s annoying as you have to concentrate so hard you can''t even watch television at the same time.

Hi guys I think this is post # 1,000!! - woo-hoo!

I''ve really slowed down a lot these past months. Sorry to be MIA but since I am feeling more energy I''ve been out, out, out.

I keep chuckling about all the boob talk. I have nothing to add since I am now a full "A" cup.

OK I''ll admit it, pregnancy sucks!

I''m not even close to glowing and this time around I am a blimp, and fairly uncomfortable already.

Rant over......

I went to my neighbor''s baby shower on Sat. and took Olivia.

She fell off the couch on her head, screamed, dropped swiss cheese on the floor, couch, dropped bread all over the floor, couch wanted to hold the cup of deep red punch and could not help herself with touching all the presents, bows, visible toys and the stereo equipment. There were accessible jellybeans all over the place!!!! OY! It was not relaxing. I felt bad b/c the preggo was staring at our spectacle and probably thinking ''oh no what have we done?''

I had to take her to the lab to get blood drawn as she looks to have an allergy (food or resp.) and it took 4 grown adults to hold her down. She has red bumps on her palms that is progressing up her arms. Looks like dermatitis (sp) but probably caused by allergen - LIA any input? Hopefully the BW will indicate something - it is fairly slow progressing.

Our anatomical us is next Monday w/ the perinatologist (local) (hopefully we can find out gender). And I have an appt. w/ the OB in OC to start care since graduating from the RE. That''s a lot of driving for that appt. like 110 miles but I have to transfer care to where I''ll be delivering.

Hi all!

Suh-Nuh-Lee- (this is a first) sending you lots of stretchy, loosy, goosey vibes - hope that your discomfort ends soon with a big ol'' healthy baby!
30.gif

LIA - scary about your dizzy spell! whoa. back to the bed for you missy! Hopefully your sleeplessness will lift too. Is is hard to sleep because your lying down/resting all day so it''s more difficult for your body to feel tired? hang in there!
Indy - multiples are nutty!! I cannot believe you''re having those crazy contractions. but it must be soooo cool at the same time. wowzers. love your lickle frog and knits. Great job!
Courtney - so cool about seeing your little gummy bear (or chewy cub as a friend calls them). Congrats!
Gemma - I''m tired just reading about all the stuff you have going on. Hang in there, and take care! Let the boys do the heavy lifting
2.gif

Pandora - my buddy! - I''m feeling the nausea too!!!!!!! I was driving, window down, eyes full of tears, mouth full of hot water, WILLING myself not to puke out the car window. it took everything in me...but it passed ;) I''m generally having mild mild nausea, no vomiting, and stiiiil ravenously hungry. hahaha.
Jen - so funny about Gabe Raine! Great name though, so who cares! In fact, I like all your names. I like a touch of earthy in my names too. I really like Sophie Amaya. BTW.

I know I''ve missed tons and tons of people! So, I''ll just say ''hi! hope you''re having a great day!" to everyone! (Lisa, NF, Pave, Dreamer, and all the others I''ve missed)

5 weeks, 2 days

Had to tell you all my preggo hormonal overload story for the day. So I was out at some appointments this morning, and really needed to get Dryel because I have a whole basket of stuff that doesn't quite need dry cleaning but does need "refreshing". So on my way home there is a Walmart. I hate Walmart and really never shop there, but this was the only option on the way home and I was NOT going to drive 15 minutes out of my way to go somewhere else...anyway, I digress.

So I go into Walmart, grab my Dryel, and bring it to the register with a coupon I had at home. They said that it wouldn't scan and thus they couldn't take it. And I TOTALLY LOST IT. Like crying in the store over the stupid coupon. The poor cashier didn't know what to do, so she called over the manager only making the situation worse, as at this point I just wanted to get my crying butt out of there and go home. But it turned into this big spectacle and the manager insisted that he could get the coupon to work for me (which he did).

I felt like SUCH a moron, lol. Hubby thinks it's hilarious of course...me, not so much. And somehow it is made way worse by the fact that I was in Walmart for some reason...

Just checking in quickly--looks like we have some new additions here, congrats! I feel a little like the person who overstayed her welcome at the party, but looks like nothing, nada is happening with me despite being 39 weeks.

I''ve just come back from my dr''s appointment and my doctor was like "why is your child not coming out?" She did an internal and said I have a long way to go. I guess I have to go for an u/s and NST if there''s nothing after next week''s visit. Sigh...

On one hand I''m in no rush, but on the other, I''m wondering why there''s no movement! I have been pretty stressed lately with work related issues, new home and move/rates/crazy market, so maybe she doesn''t want to come into this stressed out world just yet!

I''ll check in again here next week either way and keep you all posted...
How''s Curly doing?

lisa...allergic dermatitis on the palms is actually kind of uncommon (skin is much thicker and therefore more resistant). does she have rashes anywhere else? is it itchy? on the feet too? anything in the mouth? face? scalp? things i think about with rash on the palms are scabies (don''t kill me!!! it''s probably not that
20.gif
) or something called gianotti-crosti (which is a big scary name for a totally benign childhood rash that goes away completely!).

that probably doesn''t help at all... i wonder what kind of blood tests they are running??

Janine, I am so curious about your little girl! She seems sooo...secretive. I wonder if she is up to something in there, given she is so quiet and still. Like maybe she''s going to come out and say "Ta-da! See mommy? I solved Fermat''s last theorem while I was in there!" or "Look! I wrote this novel for you!"

janine, I was wondering if you were ok! I''m still here too but I''ve made a little more progress than you--but only because this is my 2nd time. As of last Tuesday I was 2-3 cm dilated, 75% effaced, baby is head down but still at -2 station (although the doctor said 2nd babies stay up higher until the very end). Which means nothing! I could walk around like this for a while, I guess. I''ve had tons of AF-like cramps but no real contractions that I can feel. I go again on Wednesday so we''ll see what happens, I''m assuming I''m dilating more but I have no idea. My doctor has been on vacation and she''s just getting back so that''s why my appointment days have been weird--I saw another doctor in the practice last week which is good in case she''s the one that''s there when I deliver. I''m still doing my thing, working, walking, going to the gym, chasing my toddler, etc! I''m just tired of everyone asking me WHEN I''m going to give birth and telling me how much I''ve dropped. But I''m trying to savor every moment since this is the last time I''ll be pregnant. So while I''m anxious to get it over with and meet my baby, I can hang on for a while longer since it''s really not that bad!

Thanks to all those who have asked about me, sorry I''m not responding individually. And congratulations to all the newly preggos--sending you lots of sticky vibes!

janine and curly, good to see an update from you! I am sending lots of labor vibes your way! I feel like I'm in the same boat as you even though I'm not due till a few weeks after.

I am 36 weeks today! 9 months! As of last Wednesday, I was fingertip dilated, 60-70% effaced, and baby is head down at -2 station. Of course I could be like this for weeks. I sure hope not! I am feeling so uncomfortable. I haven't been able to sleep well for the last 3 nights. I'm exhausted all the time. The period-like cramps have gotten worse, especially at night. Before they were just down low. Now the cramps go to the top of my belly too and the sides. I've noticed some twinges of pain on my sides and sometimes the pain stays there for a few minutes. My lower back aches. I'm still having contractions, some hurt but it's not regular. I'm also having lots of sharp stabbing vaginal pain.
40.gif

Kay, how are you doing/feeling?

Good to hear from you CURLY--you are an inspiration still working at 39 + weeks with a toddler and still exercising!
Meanwhile, I''m sitting on the couch most of the time eating sweets with a LO not going anywhere! Let us know how it goes after your visit tomorrow!

INDY: hehe, that''s cute. She is a secretive one. She does move more noticeably now, but not moving down! I feel like she doesn''t want to bother me or something..like "Oh, I''ll just stay here until it''s more convenient".

SNLEE: You might go before me at this rate :)

Oh and do all doctors typically tell patients their station, effacement etc? Mine just says nothing is happening, but I wonder if I should ask for more stats!

I agree, Curly is supermom working, exercising, and taking care of a toddler!

Janine, are you working from home or are you off now?

I think I am going bonkers here since I've been home for almost 2 months already! I feel like I've been waiting forever!

My doctor usually doesn't say what station but they do tell me about dilation and effacement (not always a percentage). They have told me the head is high up and then at 35 weeks (when I said I feel like he's dropped) she confirmed the head is low - she had to reach around the head to get to the cervix - whatever that means. When I went to L&D and had another internal exam I asked the nurse what station and that's how I got -2. Try asking and maybe your doctor will tell you more! I want to know all the stats so I always ask them for more info if they haven't told me already.

thanks again everyone for keeping me sane!

I can laugh about it now, but I still feel seriously silly!

And you know that my first "sign" of twins was an abnormally high beta right?
11.gif

I have my first pre-natal appointment in 2 hrs...wish me luck!

Good luck!! Let us know how it goes CnS.

nycbkgirl, great news on beta number.

CnS, good luck! Let us know how it goes.

NF, your story is pretty funny. At least you were silly in front of strangers you won''t ever see again.
2.gif

Sorry I just disappeared. Everything''s going fine here, except an emergency cropped up at DH''s work and I''m not really going to be able to see him this week.
40.gif

Nycbkgirl, yay on the beta! I forget - why are you having the betas done? Did you have fertility treatments? Just wondering if there''s anything in particular that could put you at a higher risk of twins.

Janine, hang in there.

Curly, you seriously are like Wonder Woman right now.

Class n Sass, good luck!

Neatfreak, I got so close to melting down in the grocery store last night. They had samosas when we went mid-afternoon, and we got a couple because they looked pretty good. Well, they were fabulous. And then that was all I felt like eating that evening, but on my 8 pm trip to the store, they were out.

Pandora, I''m thinking of you. I think that being more emotional than usual and paranoid comes with the territory of being pregnant but if it gets worrisome definitely talk to your doc. (Anecdotally, I flipped out yesterday when I was cleaning the house and found the downstairs smoke detector at the back of a shelf - for some reason, the house burning down with the dogs inside is my biggest fear right now. I think about it way too much. Not that the smoke detector would help them figure out what''s going on and how to get out, but if the thing goes off while you''re cooking, that is NOT what you should do with it. I also got really paranoid and agitated that some of the supervisors were talking about a mistake that I knew I had made one day, but it ended up that at least half of my coworkers had made the same mistake and they were not at all targeting me.)

I''ve also had a few "what the heck are we doing, making a baby with our family histories" moments lately. I really hope that the kid turns out fairly normal.

Indy, cool about the Braxton Hicks. And I love your little froggy.

Lara, funny about your doctor. Good luck finding a new one.

Gemma, what kind of renovating are you doing?

S. N. Lee, it''s amazing that you made it this long!

I''m knitting another baby sweater. I had to use size 1 needles to get gauge, and there''s a lot of cabling, so this one''s going to take a while. I''ve never used needles this small before. All of my other baby projects so far I''ve been able to complete in a single weekend. Maybe I''ll post pictures at some point.

Having a hard time keeping track of how far along I am these days... 11w4d?

Thanks everyone....yes I am hoping I have my 2 little embryos in there...yes my betas are high because I did ivf..and transferred 2 embryos...so we shall find out on oct 8th
2.gif
boy and a girl would be just fine :)...but of course that''s wishful thinking and I am happy with healthy babies!
Im still laughin @ that story neatfreak...I think its hilarious and u shouldn''t feel silly or bad about it..how dare they mess with a hormonal mama! Lol
