Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

Hey Pandora,

Are you about 7 weeks along now? Or 8 or so?

My friend at work just found out she''s pregnant *but she''s not as obsessive about peeing on sticks as some of us here,* so she''s about 7 or 8 weeks along and she has been sick as a dog. She makes it into work each day, but is gone by about 2. She gets it really bad in the afternoons. She said her only saving grace before lunch time is mint gum, but after lunch, it doesn''t matter what she does.

I told her that I''ve read and heard that m/s is a good sign that the baby is growing and all that. She was happy to hear that but it didn''t make her turn back from being greenish in color.

Hope you''re feeling better soon!

Pave,

How great to know the baby''s doing so well. That rocks!!

Pandor I tink some meds are in order lady. No need to suffer like that, get thee to a doctor.

I''m only 6 weeks...

I''m going to try and get an appointment with my GP. I spoke to my father and he just laughed and said it was normal and I should feel better in a couple of months - oh the joys of having medical parents...

Pandora check out this link, it is an online information service by the top women's hospital in Canada and it is a real advocate for women and it has tonnes of great information about m/s. They really think it is old school to think women should have to suffer with m/s, becuase it can ruin the quality of your life and compromise your mental health during preganncy and beyond... I agree with them. Anyhoo, check it out.

Thanks for the link DD - very helpful and makes me feel less pathetic for sure!

Have got an appointment to see my Doctor - next Wednesday was the earliest appointment they had.

snlee, holy cow!

You''re getting really close--you may beat me to it!!!! Hang in there, girl and send some of those contractions my way please!!!!

SNLEE!!!!
i KNEW something was up when you hadn''t posted last night. i hope you''re hanging in there. my ob said that what you''re going through is EXACTLY what she expects will happen to me in a few weeks. just hanging out being dilated to 4-5cm and NOTHING...which is part of the reason she will finally induce if it just stays like that (b/c she says it''s a MISERABLE way to walk around...i bet you can verify that one!).
anyway, know that i''m thinking about you and sending REAL labor vibes down the web. GO BAKE!!! or walk? or just try to get some sleep...
kup!!!

Wowwee Snlee!

I gasped reading your update.

I''m a little jealous that you are so far along and no real ''pain'' yet.

That baking must have dislodged something.

I need an new update!!

Pandora, phooey about the m/s.
8.gif
At least it''s a protective factor against miscarriage. But seriously, if there''s something that can be done for you, don''t suffer unnecessarily!!

SNLEE, so exciting!

Curly, you''re welcome to my contractions if you want them. I''ll send them over by Fedex.

Back from the doctor. The good news: 1) cvx is nice and long... 35mm, so the contractions aren''t causing any trouble. 2) no sign of the fold in the membrane this week. The less good news: Twin A has about twice as much fluid as Twin B. Still no signs worth panicking about, i.e., B is not shrink-wrapped, as happens when TTTS really gets going, and the twins themselves have not physically been affected (yet). But this is a common precursor of TTTS, so basically we''re still in watch and wait mode, and hoping it''s a false alarm.

Come on little cubs! We are rooting for you!

So our playdate was so fun!

There were 2 other girlies and a little boy (ages from 16 months to almost 18 months). You could really see the diference in play styles/social styles
betwee the genders (DD please chime in here). The boy was so physical. The girls clearly had some fairly complicated communication/interaction going on
between themselves while the boy mosty hit things or his mom and grabbed at the treats. Not trying to cast any aspersions on the male here but I did notice how
differently the genders played together.

Perhaps it was just this particular boy or the day. But the mom even rolled her eyes when discussing gender of our #2. She warned, "be prepared for everything in your house/life to get upended." I told her that Olivia already upended everything we had so I guess I was already used to having a little boy
11.gif
. Perhaps having a boy would be a good foil for Olivia as she is older sister. Boys scare me.

It does take some getting used to when being with other mommies. I''m not used to talking all about diapers and bottles and poop with grown-ups. We did talk about our relationships a lot which was very engrossing and touched on how our identities have shifted (the other mom''s have all given up their careers in teaching). I was the only one who didn''t work w/ kids before Olivia. I told them that I love the toddler time much more than the blobby infant time (I think there was descension there) but I managed not to offend anyone and even got invited back next week! I do worry that I might offend and not even know it.

So just as we left I got a call that my mom was admitted to the ICU following a very severe allergic reaction to a new med! Her pressures were/are so high. Thankfully my stepdad is around to act as proxy so I don''t have to and we are going down to visit today. I can''t help but do that medical social work thing.........very PTSD from last year.

Hope you are all well.

IG, I''ll be happy to take your contractions!! I''ll email you my address!!
2.gif
Glad you''re doing ok and keeping fingers crossed for your cubs.

I may have to start baking tonight...

INDY: keeping my fingers crossed for you!! you have such an amazing attitude! hang in there with the contractions. they SUCK...believe me, i know...but you will hopefully reach a point where you can totally tune them out. and great news that your cervix isn''t changing.

CURLY: you can have my contractions too! yes...go bake go bake!!

LISA: so sorry to hear about your mom. hope she''s ok. i''m glad you get to visit today... and yay for good play dates! how is the rash??

snlee how are you doing? are you back in L&D yet? 4cm?!!?
congrats to all the newly preggos!
to all the preggos due soon, can't wait to meet the little ones!
back to lurking on this thread.....

ETA: i didn't even know i was in labor and when i realized i was in labor and got to L&D, i was just about 8 cm dilated. i just thought i ate something terribly bad. so i guess you can "not know" you are in labor
37.gif

how exciting snlee - good luck!!

snlee: thinking about u!! how exciting :)

FIVE visits to L&D and no baby!
6.gif
I thought for sure we weren't leaving without a baby in my arms this time....

But my body likes to play lots of tricks on me and I was wrong!

It started off with a usual appointment. The MW said she didn't have to check my cervix but since my contractions were getting more painful (just a tiny bit), I wanted to have an internal exam. (I had 4 done yesterday and although they are uncomfortable they weren't that painful. Maybe I'm getting used to them?
20.gif
) We were all SHOCKED when she said I was already at 4cm!
23.gif
Lots of watery discharge came out during the exam and turned the nitrazine paper color so she thought my water had broken. But I didn't feel it break? I was not leaky and there was no change in my discharge. She said I was in active labor and sending me over to L&D. It was around 5pm so the office was quiet. There was lots of talk about me. While she filled out the paperwork and got my prenatal report ready, I wandered around the office in complete shock talking to the doctors and medical assistants. The main doctor assured me that although a bit early, the baby would be healthy and able to go home with me.

I was completely shocked that I was at 4cm and not feeling much pain at all. I kept thinking, whatever happened to "you'll know when you're in labor because the contractions will really hurt!"?

By 6pm I was checked into L&D. They hooked me up to monitors, drew blood, asked me lots of questions, and got me settled in. I was still pretty comfortable (I'd say a 2 out of 10 - hurts just a little bit). I ate dinner, watched tv, and rested.

The big question that remained unanswered was did my water break? There are three ways to tell. 1) The nitrazine paper tests - The paper test said yes in the office but when the nurse did the paper test, it said no. 2) See if there's lots of fluid inside the cervix (yes!) and 3) The fern test, which looks at the fluid under a microscope. This is the most reliable test and it confirmed my water had NOT broken. Also an u/s tech came in to do a quick check to make sure the baby's head was still down (yes) and to check if there was lots of fluid in my uterus (yes). She doubts my membrane was grossly ruptured.

At around 10pm (5 hours later) they rechecked my cervix and it was still at 4cm dilated and 90% effaced. I wasn't in active labor or there would have been change. Since I was not in active labor, my water was not broken, baby looked great on the u/s and on the monitor, and I was still a bit early (36.5 weeks), they recommended I go home. I could stay the night at the hospital but if I had not progressed, in the morning they would send me home. They thought I'd get better rest at home than at the hospital. When you are tired, you feel more pain. And since I wanted to try and go natural, I needed to get all the rest I could!

I was worried though! I had already progressed to 4cm without knowing it! They admitted my case was very unusual - FTM at 4cm, with contractions but not very painful, and not in active labor? It is possible for someone to walk around at 4cm for weeks but very unusual. The nurse, MW, and doctor felt confident sending me home and told me once I get to 5cm, I'd KNOW. I will be in a lot more pain. Patients usually go into L&D in so much pain thinking it's time to have the baby and they are only at 5cm. I'd have time to return to L&D since we didn't live that far. I was still worried so as a middle ground they proposed I stay for another 2 hours, unmonitored, left alone, and then checked to see if anything had changed. If no change, I could go home. I agreed.

After 7 hours in L&D, I was headed home. I was a little frustrated but I was exhausted and glad I could take a nice hot shower and sleep in my own bed.

I have to say that I really love the L&D nurses! They are all so nice and friendly! And they take my birth plan very seriously. I also love the nurse-midwives in the practice. I feel like I'm receiving great care.

I slept 8 hours last night and will probably take a nap today. Must get all the sleep I can now! I'll sit upright, walk around and try to let gravity do its work. Maybe I'll BAKE but I'm undecided if I should try that again. I do want some more cookies though.
18.gif

No big changes yet. I'm feeling the same as the last few days. I will call if the contractions get worse and/or more regular, my water breaks, I have heavy bleeding (bright red), there's a change in the baby's movements, I feel lots of pressure, or I can't hold any food/liquids down. So the waiting game continues...

Thank you for all for the good thoughts!

Time to catch up with all of you!

snlee
wow, you are getting so close.
it''s any day now.
i know it''s frustrating going to L&D so many times and still not have your lo in your arms.
hopefully you''ve paid your dues in L&D visit and your actual labor and delivery will be short and fast
5.gif

Curly, janine, snlee, and Kay since you are pretty close
Lots of labor dust to you mommies.
Hope you ladies have a speedy labor and recovery.

fisher, I love Reed's Extra Ginger Brew from TJ's!

LIA, I'm glad things are still status quo. I hope you have a good u/s next week. I bet there's no change. You've been doing a great job at being on bed rest and keeping your boy in there! I sure hope I don't hang out at 4cm with no progress and have to get induced!
32.gif

dreamer, glad you had another great appointment with your MW. Between weeks 18 and 22, I gained 7 pounds! I was shocked! But don't worry, it'll level off.

pave, so happy to hear the good news!

Indy, I'm sorry your DH has to travel so much. My heart aches for you. But you sound much stronger than me so I'm sure you can handle it! I'm sorry you're having contractions but glad there's no change. LOL about sending your contractions via FedEx. I'll take some too. Maybe it'll make my contractions regular! I continue to root for your little cubs!

Lisa, sorry to hear about your mom. I hope she recovers quickly.

curly, yes, time to start the baking! Woohoo!

janine, how are you doing? Time to bake too!?

puffy, 8cm!? Not know you're in labor!?
32.gif
Makes me nervous. How did the rest of your delivery go? Was dilating from 8-10cm really painful?

indy....i remember you posted a really great link a while back about the amount of weight you should gain based on your BMI and point in pregnancy. it''s impossible to find anything more than a few days old in this thread - could you repost the link plz?

thank you!

thank you!

I don''t have the link, but if you calculate your BMI pre-pregnancy, then find out whether you were over/under or normal, then these are the recommended weight gains:

Underweight
28–40

Normal weight
25–35

Overweight
15–25

Obese
15

snlee i really thought i ate something seriously wrong. that day i was at my weekly appt and they said no progress. i wasn''t even fingertip dilated, and not to mention for everyone i had dinner with ended up with a tummy ache. so i though wow, something was wrong with the food. haha, little did i know. after i got to the hospital and had the epidural, that was my #1 priority, i delivered less than 1 hour later. so i think i went pretty smoothly.
anyways, good luck and i can''t wait to meet your little bundle of joy!!

Snlee -- wow, what a story! I hope you get the natural labor and birth you want (sounds like you are on the right track). Get your rest while you can and I''d vote go ahead and bake
2.gif
I''m so excited that we''ll be "meeting" your little one soon!

Curly and Janine -- maybe this will get the ball rolling for you two, too...
1.gif

Indy -- sorry you''re not getting relief yet from the contrax. They are annoying, but fortunately at your stage, they probably don''t hurt much right now. I have a few a day that really hurt now, but most are still annoying/uncomfortable. Since you''re starting them early (typical with twins ya know), pay attention to them if they hold on for a longer length of time. Othewise, all I can say is that you will hit a point soon where it''s pretty "normal." Glad you had a good appt overall -- hopefully the difference in fluid levels will improve!

Pave -- so glad to hear you''ve had some good news lately!!

Pandora -- I am SO sorry you are feeling so crappy! I am hoping you find some relief soon!

NYC -- I second Indy about the milk -- and fwiw, ice cream makes for a nice change on occasion (and is really good on the heartburn of the future too!)

Lisa -- glad you enjoyed the playdate overall
1.gif
I hope your mom is doing better...

LIA, Blen, NF, Kay, our "newbies" and everyone else I missed -- I hope you are all doing weel and feeling good!

I just finished putting my hospital bag mostly together -- one more thing to check off that list
1.gif
I feel like I have a million things to do right now and even with a list, I''m having a hard time figuring out where to start each day... and I''m down to having only 2 more mornings to go to work and am SO excited about that! Snlee, since you asked, I *am* taking the procardia for one more week (i thought i was done yesterday), but he told me to take it only as needed. Seems like a lot of people on meds have babies within a few days of getting off of them, so that''s looming in my mind right now. I''m a bit surprised to have made it to 34 weeks, so I just keep thinking the girls are coming ANY time now. Not much else new right now
1.gif
Have a great evening (and Snlee keep us posted if you can! happy labor vibes being sent your way!)

Thanks again for all of the knitting compliments! Indy, all you need to know how to do to knit that is to knit the stockinette stitch, increase and decrease, and sew pieces together. I''m thinking of making another one in a softer yarn (the orange was just sitting around, waiting to be used) once I finish my current project. I had to learn how to make i-cords, and then found that they seemed too thick to me, so I ended up crocheting a chain and just using that as the ties.

SNLee, so exciting! I can''t believe how many trips you''ve made to L&D so far, and it''s amazing that this might soon be it for you and that it''s late enough that baby should be good and healthy.
9.gif

Pandora, sorry about the m/s.

Indy, I''m rooting for your cubs, too. I hope that everything''s fine.

DD, I forgot to mention it the other night, but I''m sorry for all that''s been going on in your family.

Lisa, your poor mom.

Puffy, that''s amazing! 8 cm!?

I finally heard about the possible promotion today. I got the one I wanted.
9.gif
I''m not allowed to tell anyone until the official announcement goes out in about a week, because they don''t want rumors going around. (I figure you girls don''t count, because you don''t even know where I work or what the job is.
2.gif
)

I was hoping to tell everyone about the pregnancy at least a week after the job announcement (I wanted the announcements to be 2 distinct events), but I figured that it would come a lot sooner. My bloat was gone over the weekend -- I could button my pants, and everything! -- and I swear my belly''s really popped out this week. And I just took pictures, and man there''s a difference. My fundus also feels about an inch higher than it did at this time last week. I figured that if I told people today, I''d have a week before the job announcement comes out. If I wait, I''m not sure how much longer I could go without anyone saying something. So I just told. Everyone''s so excited. Even though I told about an hour before the end of the day, a baby shower is already in the works. The 3 women who sit practically right next to me said that they knew, but the younger one (whose friends are all having babies, so she''s a little more sensitive to pregnancy issues) prohibited the others from saying anything because it would have been rude. And the one coworker who I thought wouldn''t take it well was complaining that I wouldn''t have the ultrasound tech call her and tell her the sex (we''re not finding out) so that she could buy us a ton of baby stuff, so I guess she''s okay with the whole thing.
9.gif
I had some women rubbing my belly, which I thought I would mind but I didn''t really.

I''ve also been feeling bummed about getting dressed because it seems like nothing fits and nothing really hides the bump, and I realized that trying to hide it was probably exacerbating the way that I''m feeling. Now I can embrace my bit of a bump. And several coworkers who have already had babies said that they had no idea how I was 12 weeks along, because I was so tiny. It made me feel less big.

SBDE, here''s the link! http://www.indiacurry.com/women/pregcalc.htm

Blen, congrats on being out! It''s fun not having to keep it secret, isn''t it? I can do all those stitches so I may give the sweater a try. I can even do i-cord! I learned it for that hat, actually.

SNLEE Hang in there! yikes!

Jen, why not put something fun or funny in your bag... a little note? a stuffed toy? then maybe you''ll forget about it and get a nice surprise. Childish, i guess!

Lisa, yay for fun playdates!

So, DH is HOME! He''s home! Hurray! Hurray! We were so happy to see each other.
1.gif
He has to leave again on sunday, but at least I get him for a few days. I''m lying on the couch and he''s making me dinner. It was another looooong day.

For your tickling pleasure I present: TINY FEETS!

Well, I didn''t get a chance to bake today but...

My contractions have gotten more painful and have been around every 5 minutes regularly for an hour. We''re getting ready to head over to L&D soon.

Hopefully the 6th time IS the charm!
