Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

Yeh so I called target and of course got connected to india...and u can barely hear them and it so frustrating but i feel bad being mean to them...they said it was an error and they don''t know new price...I transferred to someplace in u.s. And am trying to file a complaint. Ugh so terrible..totally sucky. They really should honor the price and they got so many orders..it would be stupid I would think not to esp with the retailers having so many troubles in this economy. O well lets see what happens.

Yeah, I think though that despite the good press they''d get from this they''d then set a precedent to honor every price issue in the future on their website too...I''m not going to bother calling because everyone is being told different things. I''m just going to sit back and wait!

This is what it says on the website. Talk about vague...

We cannot confirm the price of an item until you order, but WILL NOT charge your credit card until your order enters the shipping process (Please note that your Order Acknowledgement does not mean that your order has been shipped or that the price of an item has been confirmed). Despite our best efforts, a small number of the items on our Web site are mispriced. Rest assured, however, that we verify prices as part of our shipping procedures.
If an item''s correct price is lower than our stated price, we charge the lower amount and ship you the item. If an item''s correct price is higher than our stated price, we will, at our discretion, either contact you for instructions before shipping or cancel your order and notify you of such cancellation.

Yup, that is enough to get them off the hook with the law unfortunately.

Mela that put a smile on my face

Congrats!

That''s precious, Mela!!! I love that they captured that. The u/s we had on Saturday showed my little one holding the cord. I said that she was tugging on it because she was hungry.

Awe, what a cutie, Mela! Congrats!

Mela, awesome shot! Our u/s pics have been so much less impressive than some I have seen here... I think they are very "business minded" at the place we go to, they aren''t much about the show... oh well!

thanks girls! I was impressed too with the quality of the pic, espeically since it was done at the hospital, in a "no nonsense" NT scan vain. In the end the tech shot some great pictures. I guess all her POKING and PRODDING were worth it
2.gif

Courtney - how does it feel saying "she"? heee heeee. SHE!!!!

My friends came up with a new name for my genderless baby, "Himer". Part Him, part Her. Himer.

Funny you ask that, because it feels great!! I am just giddy with happiness...although I would''ve been with a boy also. But SHE SHE SHE!

Lol. I think every mother in the western hemisphere is waiting for that email. One thing that I''m not sure you noticed is that the ship date for them is late December...so even if we do get them it might be awhile...

Yeah neatfreak I saw that it may take a while to ship- we have the infant graco. I just jumped on in because it was so cheap- The pessimist in me is really waiting for the email that says they are going to cancel the order.

How are you feeling today? are you pooped after your shower yesterday? My energy goes away pretty quickly. I already took my first nap today and it''s only 12:30- but I did get up at 6 a.m.

mela the u/s is soooo cute!! i love that himer is sucking its thumb

You must be soooo relieved to be out of the first trimester!!

I called Target to see when/if the Marathons I ordered (I needed 2 of them) would ship and it the price was still $42.99. The rep I spoke to said that the price was a mistake, that an e-mail will be send out shortly to those who ordered and that the $42.99 price would not be honored and give nother "options". I asked if she knew what the options would be and she didn''t know the specifics at that time. Only that all reps were told what she told me. Bummer!

Yeah I am pretty wiped too. I''m not sleeping well at night anymore because I can''t get comfortable, but I''ve been trying not to nap during the day for fear it will make it even harder to sleep at night. I just can''t really win I guess unless I figure out a way to sleep sitting up...that seems to be the most comfortable position for me lately.

I just checked my Target order and it disappeared. I think they canceled my order without contacting me, which makes me a bit angry. I understand if the price was an error but canceling your order without notifying you? Not cool!

Today I have had 7 phone calls confirming my blood test results. Why? Because the doctor''s office has a gagillion nurses (its in a hospital) and they apparantly don''t have a method of keeping track of who they''ve called.

Normally I would be annoyed by this but every time they call to say "Ms. M, your blood results confirm that you are pregnant" I get all warm and fuzzy inside and makes me feel like the baby is ok...even though its results from the same test taken a week ago. Only 7 more days until hopefully my first u/s.

Babyseatgate continues... I think we have evidence to impeach.

Can you impeach a corporation?

RE SLEEP I have not been sleeping well lately, I seem to wake up a lot. But for some reason I wake feeling rested after only 6-7 hours, after which I would usually feel like crap... odd.

You know that happened to me too for awhile right where you are in your pregnancy. Sadly it didn''t last for me!

I''m having a babygate of my own over here...

My boss and HR lady just pulled me aside and gave me an ultimatum. come back full-time, or get laid off with severance.

They know I''m pregnant and it is no secret that they will be replacing me with a new full-time employee when I start my mat leave. If I were to come back f/t until my mat leave starts, it would save them the employee search until then. The company is REALLY busy and desperate for warm bodies.

I''m so mad that they are backing me into this corner. Part-time *works* for me. I love being in the office 3 days a week and then working as a florist the other 2 days. It''s the perfect ying-yang for me.

The reality is that here in Canada, your Mat leave amount is determined by how much $$ you make. Going back f/t would increase my Mat leave checks. But (and this is my anger talking), that is giving them EXACTLY what THEY want. What about what I want???

I''m going to calculate what my severance would total, and then how much $$ I would have accumulated by May (to get an average of what my Mat Leave checks from the gov''t would be) and see what nets out best in the end.

My anger wants to just take the severance and let them squirm with 1/2 a person less....

what to do?

Ugh, that is really annoying and yet interesting. Most firms in the US would rather have 2 part time employees so they don't pay benefits to anyone! I'm so sorry Mela. So let me get this straight, you've been working part time and now they want you at full time or else they are letting you go, correct? What would happen to your mat leave if you left outright?

Er, get a good lawyer and sue them if they try severance?

I sympathise - employers are my least favourite species right now. Although the 2.5hr meeting with my lawyer this afternoon has cheered my life up rather a lot.

But I don''t think this is directly related to the baby is it? It''s a full time/part time issue from what I understand. If it IS related to the baby then it makes sense. But if they just want a full time employee, i.e., they are eliminating a part time position, I''m not sure if there is anything she could do legally...

Ditto, NF I don't think this is a sue-them issue since it seems unrelated to the pregnancy...

Mela I think you need to do some math: What would the severence $$ be and what amount of EI would you qualify for on the mat leave if you a) quite with severence or b) stay on full-time for the next 6 months. I believe that your EI benefits are based on the gross income you earned in the past 6 months... this MAY include the severence, in which case leaving may make very little difference. Remember (information from here):

The basic benefit rate is 55% of your average insured earnings up to a yearly maximum insurable amount of $41,100. This means you can receive a maximum payment of $435 per week. Your EI payment is a taxable income, meaning federal and provincial or territorial, if it applies, taxes will be deducted. To find out how we calculate the amount you will receive... You could receive a higher benefit rate if you are in a low-income family an income of less than $25,921 with children and you or your spouse receive the Canada Child Tax Benefit (CCTB) , you are entitled to the Family Supplement.

Given this, it may make NO DIFFERENCE to your maternity leave if you work full-time or leave now (i.e., if the difference in income would be all greater than the cap, then the extra will not "buy" you extra). Call the EI people, they are very helpful in answering these types of questions.

One final thing to consider is whether you want to return to the job after your leave. If you are full-time, by law they have to offer you a similar/equivalent position when you return (not the SAME job, but one with the same salary and similar responsibilities). If you are part-time, I don't think this law applies. So this is something to consider... working full time for 6 months could be a great benefit in the longer term if you want to come back.

Mat leave comes from an insurance premium that we pay to the federal govenment from all of our taxable income. So if she left, it could affect her in two ways: 1) she must work 600 hours in the previous 52 weeks to qualify, so if quitting meant she would not make this total then it could affect her ability to claim benefits (though that is only 10 hours per week so it seems unlikely to me that quitting will affect this); 2) her payment depends on her gross income from the 26 weeks preceding the start of mat leave; payments are 55% of your gross weekly income from this period OR $435, whichever is less. So if she quits this could be affected depending on how much she earns at her florist part-time job and whether or not the severence would count in the 26 week tally.
