Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

Date: 11/21/2008 9:23:36 AM
Author: dreamer_dachsie
Mela I think calling the midwife in this situation is fine! I know I would! Generally speaking, it is totally safe to be just as active preggo as not--it may even be good for you since you are getting excercise just being up and about--but you certainly don''t want to push it too hard! With your hematoma, it is not surprising that being on your feet ''shook loose'' some of the blood. I mean, isn''t a hematoma kind of like a bloody bruise in the uterus?
14.gif
Pandora had one too on one of her early u/s scans, if I recall correctly. I am willing to bet it was nothing and you are totaly fine, but call the midwife to be sure and stay off your feet as much as possible today. (PS those were Blenheim''s u/s pics, I know you just got the names mixed up...)

25w 5d <---------- CRAAAAAZY
6.gif
Correct indeed - and it was pretty big on the scan. They told me to expect quite a lot of bleeding. In fact I only had about 2-3 days - walking around a lot did seem to make it worse, but that may have just been that what had to come out came out faster rather than it being more than there would have been (if that makes sense). The sonographer confirmed it was completely gone at the last scan.

It is frightening at the time though - even when you have been told it''s nothing to worry about.

Wow courtney, 17 weeks already.

Where does the time go?

So I was walking by someone''s cubicle at work and this lady was on Pricescope!!! So funny! I don''t know her, or I would have asked if she was a member! Too funny, right?

just had to tell u guys
9.gif

Fiery...I do not know where the times goes, but I hope it keeps flying by like this until she gets here!

cdt - that is too funny! Aren''t you curious to know what her user name is? I would be dying to know if I knew her on PS. I ran into a PSer at a baby shower last year and she recognized me from pictures I posted. Small world!

courtney - i am curious. We work on the same floor, so I''m hoping we''ll run into each other in the bathroom so I can corner her and ask

Lunch Meat Question

I lurk on the bump but don''t really post there because those ladies can be mean sometimes!

Anyway, there was a question about not eating lunch meat and some believed it was ok as long as you heat the meat and others said stop being paranoid.

What''s your take on it? I''ve been eating sandwiches left and right not really thinking about it but of course now I''m worried (which is why I told myself to stop doing research and just live
3.gif
)

I ask because we have a wine shop close to the job that serves some really yummy sandwiches and due to the lack of any good food upstairs in our cafeteria, I was thinking about making a trip but I''m worried LOL

Fiery- so I had the same ? In the beginning and apparently it isn''t the meat itself ..its the not knowing how well the meat slicer is cleaned (that can contain listeria)...and heating is fine but who really wants their lunchmeat heated ..I don''t...I was scared for a while but I couldn''t resist so I have it in moderation..im sure some of the ladies may have some better info.

Alright, I so need to tell someone besides my husband and the appointment desk at the doctor''s office that I am pregnant. We aren''t ready to tell our families yet, but after knowing for 6 days I need to pass on the news to someone else. It is my first pregnancy so I''m pretty clueless and appreciate everyone''s experiences.

I don''t eat meat, but with all of these prohibitions when you dig a little deeping I think they seem silly. Like: Don''t eat soft cheese... what that really means is don''t eat unparturized cheese, which is almost non-existent in North America! Or, don''t eat deli mean because of listeriosis... well NF pointed out that you are more likely to get listeriosis from prepackaged salad mixes than meats! I figure eat what you like but monitor your health and get good prenatal care and you will be fine. Just don''t do crack. That is actually bad apparently

Thank you Dreamer. 4w3d so not very far at all. I''m trying very hard not to worry or stress about anything. Anyone else on here taking medication for hypothyroidism? I called to see if I should get my levels rechecked before my OB appointment which isn''t for 3 weeks.

Fiery, I don''t think we''ll be clueless for long. I learned so much from pricescope when I was diamond shopping and wedding planning. I still love to check out the new rings, dress, invitations, and wedding pictures.

So true - I see so many people avoiding brie and other yummy cheeses as the important part "pasteurised" appears to have gone missing somewhere along the way.

I gave up caffeine and alcohol - neither of which I had much of anyway. Otherwise I eat what I can - I just buy or eat at more salubrious establishments these days.

I was a bit more careful in Sri Lanka - but didn''t need to worry, our driver told every restaurant we went to that I was pg and they cooked all my food specially.

I recommend a copy of The Panic-free Pregnancy - it''s been very useful!

Fiery, I''m having a hard time eating good food as well. All I seem to want to eat are eggs, cheese (in pretty much all forms) and all things greasy. I''ll take food aversions over m/s any day though. I''ll be 8 weeks tomorrow and it still hasn''t set in yet.

Cdt, I think a lot of women struggle with the same thing. I have a feeling I''m going to gain all over since that''s how I normally gain weight. I''m trying to not let it bother me though and so far so good. I was wearing a size smaller underwear when I got my bfp, but switched into my bigger (pre-weightloss) ones soon after because the smaller ones were really too small. The bigger ones were saggy in the butt at first, but it''s uh pretty filled out at the moment. I have a feeling I''m going to have to go up another size before this is over.

Pandora was it you who posted about apples about a week ago? Whoever it was sent me into an apple-craving frenzy and I ate all of the apples in the house. Poor DH was not happy since they were his apples that I hadn''t wanted at all when he bought them
11.gif
. When we went to get more the store was all out of that kind so I''ve been craving them for almost a week now! That sucks that you need to talk to the chemist to get something that doesn''t require a prescription. You should be able to just pick it up off of a shelf or something.

NYC, make sure to check the expiration date as well. I found a post from a while ago (perhaps from tgal?) that said that car seats expire. Apparently the latches and such are only guaranteed to work for a certain amount of time, so even if you know the seat''s never been in a wreck, you still might want a new one for that reason.

Blen, your bump is freakin adorable! I really hope I look as cute as you at 20 weeks. Cute sono shots!

Work has been kind of crazy lately so I''m sorry I''ve been more of a lurker than a poster. I just got back from a trip to VA. I drove 11 hrs in 2 days and I''m a bit exhausted. I found out today that one of my coworkers is expecting and is due 5 days after me! She''s already telling everyone at work. I still plan to wait to tell everyone until after New Year''s, but I got so excited that we''re due so close together that I told her and swore her to secrecy. This is her second so she''s actually already starting to show and felt like she had to tell now.

My u/s is in less than 24hrs and I keep alternating between jumping out of my skin with excitement and freaking out that we''ll find out something is wrong.

And for my random question of the day, I was thinking about Rh incompatibility and wondering why it only matters for the mother. I''m rh+ and DH is rh-. Since being negative is a recessive trait, doesn''t that mean that I could be a carrier of a negative gene and our baby could be rh-? Say we end up with a girl who''s rh-, won''t she be exposed to my blood during delivery and therefore develop antibodies that could affect her in future pregnancies?

Congratulations, Bluekeet!

Mela, so sorry to hear that your spotting is freaking you out. ::hugs:: I''m sure it''s just the hematoma, but that would freak me out too.

Lol. Yes, dreamer''s advice is sound. I don''t eat much meat either, but the main risk is listeria, so just make sure that you are confident that anywhere you are getting your lunchmeat that it is freshly sliced, the kitchen is clean, and it hasn''t been sitting around.

I am totally not a paranoid person when it comes to that stuff though...

I had a chicken sub instead LOL

And yes crack is bad
27.gif

I''m not one for soft cheeses because it makes me gag but sandwiches are my life.

As is ramen noodles, velvetta mac-n-cheese, and pizza.

Most of my eating habits come from my college days in a dorm room with a microwave and hot plate

Talk about eating badly...I just went to the mall and everything smelled good to me so I got a mango colada and they had an assortment of pretzels..so my twinks wanted about 1 of each kind lol. Ugh I hate it that im eating so poorly...but I will cook on sunday (we are having company)...and try to eat healthy at least a few times a week. Im going to order sushi now :)

Thanks about the car seat tips...I didn''t want to take used anyway but feel bad letting her down...but I will.

Robbie..8weeks! Holy cow...im so excited about ur u/s..can''t wait to hear details! And funny when I read pandora''s post about apples..sure enough I went to the fridge and cut one up lol..didn''t go into a frenzy tho..not much of an apple fan.
Only thing im stayin away from is caffeine(miss my green tea), alcohol and raw sushi -->which I love

Welcome Bluekeet! Congrats and enjoy this interesting journey ;)

Fiery, ramen has been my dinner about 3 times this week. I'm obsessed at the moment. Mmmm.

NYC, I know, right? Time is flying, but it seems to be moving slowly at the same time. Pretty contradictory, but that's how I feel. I mean, it seems like this u/s took forever to get here, but holy cow I can't believe it's been over a month since I got my bfp! That part moved quickly
1.gif
. I had sushi (cooked) on my business trip. I haven't had any sushi in forever because DH and I have been trying to save money and one thing we cut was our trips out for sushi since we can never seem to spend less than $60 when we go
8.gif
. I was so excited to get a spider roll and it tasted so awful to me! I don't know if it's because my tastes have changed or if this place just had bad sushi, but yuck!
14.gif
It was pretty disappointing.

ETA: I'm getting a haircut tomorrow after the u/s and I posted a thread in hangout asking for style suggestions, in case any of you feel like giving your opinion
1.gif

Robbie..my hair was super long and I just cut it! I love it, but unfortunately can''t style it as well as the salon can. Here''s a pic the day I got it cut:

Court- really nice haircut! I would think with a flat iron it would be easy to keep up no? But robbie I think that cut would look nice on u 2 ;)

You CAN eat raw sushi. The only reason they warn about raw fish is that you ''could'' get a tapeworm from it - which frankly won''t harm you unless you are malnourished and certainly wouldn''t harm the baby.

Sushi fish is always frozen for 24 hours - or at least it has to be by law in the UK. The freezing kills any parasites so it''s completely safe.

I have just eaten raw salmon, yellow tail, tuna, ikura, octopus, scallops and I made a really nice crab-meat thing. Mmmmmm. I haven''t made sushi in ages - mainly as only one store in London stocks fish for DIY sushi.

Sorry, yup that was me.

I'm still hooked and getting through a bag a day... I eat the whole thing, core, pips and all - I get some odd looks on the Tube I can tell you.
1.gif

Most other food seems to bloat me up and then my stomach hurts - apples don't seem to cause this problem.

I only like ONE sort of apple at the moment though. Granny Smiths - don't know if you have them in the States? If not, they're a very crisp, fresh tasting apple. I can't stand anything that tastes 'warm' like Golden Delicious or red apples - even Cox's Orange Pippin which is one of my favourite old varieties isn't cutting it at the moment.

Luckily DH doesn't care for apples as I would probably commit murder if someone else ate my apples.
29.gif

ETA: Things do taste different from normal a lot of the time. I had pizza the other day and it just tasted bleugh - it was from a place I've ordered pizza loads of times and DH ate it all so it was def. me and not the pizza. I just had apples for supper instead.
9.gif

Pandora- the only reason I stay away from sushi is bc I don''t trust the places 100% bc even b4 preggers sometimes is didn''t seem fresh and there was 1 time I got food poisioning from it..so I rather be safe than sorry with that one ;) the cooked rolls aren''t bad..I ordered just now but no sushi.I got miso soup..kani salad..cheese wontons and fried rice..mmmm
We do have granny smith here and that''s exactly the one I had after your post :)..they are the freshest and crispest I agree!..a bag a day..goodness woman ..well at least they are healthy :)

Robbie, I know all about Rh incompatibility
35.gif
I would recommend googling "rhesus factor." Your baby isn't really exposed to your blood during a vaginal birth (or only a very tiny amount), but I guess during a ceasarian that could be more of a risk? I'm not sure how much though, wouldn't it have to enter the baby through a cut or something? And it would still only be a tiny, tiny bit of blood. I guess it is something to ask your doctor though!

There are many other parasites you can get too, and the main worry is that if you are one of the few people that these don't "go right through" the parasites could cause things in YOU like anemia and digestive issues that theoretically could hurt the baby. And freezing won't necessarily kill all the parasites, which is why doctors say no. But I think it's just to avoid being sued!

But really the chances are so slim that as long as you are eating from a reputable place again it's not something *I* would probably worry about too much...I'd just avoid hole in the wall sushi places!

Today I had a checkup and I''m 16 weeks and 4 days. Yes, I am still counting the days
4.gif
Everything looked good, listened to the baby''s heartbeat, was a good checkup over all. I''m officially up 2 pounds from my pre-preg weight. My doctor is happy that my morning sickness has subsided (the puking stopped last week, I''m still nauseous, but hey I can deal with that) and honestly I gained those 2 pounds in the last 2 weeks so it looks like I''m getting on the right track now. Still have an aversion to all meat (except lobster and crab meat incidentally
31.gif
31.gif
) but now this last week I have been ravenous and I am packing away the food!
1.gif
I definitely hear you gals about body change concerns and weight gain. I think that your body will try to gain whatever you need to gain, and I know that so many ladies put on weight different. Some gain early and slow down later, and some are late bloomers that really pack it on at the end. So we all just need to remind ourselves that our goal is to grow healthy babies, and not stress about the weight gain! Sometimes easier said than done
2.gif

Mmm speaking of all of that, the husband and I are going out to dinner. I am going to have crab crakes... and mashed potatoes. And onion rings that come with chipotle mayonnaise. OK I am starving now!
35.gif

Thanks for all the compliments! I''m having a lot of fun actually looking pregnant. And wearing the right clothes really makes a difference. I''m wearing a sweatshirt and jeans now and think I just look chubby.

Tacori, I remember you looking adorable pregnant. I think we''re all harder on ourselves than other people are.

Mela, sorry about the hemotoma and the bleeding. Hope everything''s still ok.

CDT - So funny about your coworker!

Bluekeet - congrats!

Robbie - hope that u/s goes okay.

Lindsey - I''m still counting the days too. That''s great that your m/s has subsided. And you''re making me hungry. Mmmmm.

We''re travelling this week, so if I disappear that''s why.
