Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

Today I had a checkup and I''m 16 weeks and 4 days. Yes, I am still counting the days
4.gif
Everything looked good, listened to the baby''s heartbeat, was a good checkup over all. I''m officially up 2 pounds from my pre-preg weight. My doctor is happy that my morning sickness has subsided (the puking stopped last week, I''m still nauseous, but hey I can deal with that) and honestly I gained those 2 pounds in the last 2 weeks so it looks like I''m getting on the right track now. Still have an aversion to all meat (except lobster and crab meat incidentally
31.gif
31.gif
) but now this last week I have been ravenous and I am packing away the food!
1.gif
I definitely hear you gals about body change concerns and weight gain. I think that your body will try to gain whatever you need to gain, and I know that so many ladies put on weight different. Some gain early and slow down later, and some are late bloomers that really pack it on at the end. So we all just need to remind ourselves that our goal is to grow healthy babies, and not stress about the weight gain! Sometimes easier said than done
2.gif

Mmm speaking of all of that, the husband and I are going out to dinner. I am going to have crab crakes... and mashed potatoes. And onion rings that come with chipotle mayonnaise. OK I am starving now!
35.gif
Lindsey,

I fully intend to do the same. Each and every day. Until I forget to keep count, anyway.
9.gif

Hope your dinner was good!!

Posting from my phone so this will be short, but I wanted to let you know that WE HAVE A HEARTBEAT!!! And we got to see AND hear it! Everything looks good with baby uncle sam. I''m measuring a day ahead, so due date will stay the same.

8 weeks exactly!

Great news Robbie! It must have been so thrilling to make that connection to baby uncle sam.

Robbie I am sooooo excited for u!!!! I hope u got the u/s pictures...I collect them all for an album :) u need to celebrate tonite! Congrats mama.

Congrats Robbie!!!

And Welcome Bluekeet!!!

Not much here except that I am at 34 weeks now! Wah-hoo! Unfortunately my doctor now says he wants to keep me on bedrest until 36 weeks to try and squeeze out a few more weeks but DH and I cheated and went out to breakfast this morning. It was SO NICE to get out of the house for some reason other than school. So happy to be out of the "danger zone".

How wonderful, Robbie.

8 weeks already. Wow!!

9.gif

Congrats Robbie - you wait till you see the difference at the 12 week NT scan!

On another note, I decided to check whether my apple addiction was any kind of sign that I was lacking some kind of vitamin or something. Couldn''t find anything suggesting that - but.... I did discover that eating 4 apples a week during pregnancy significantly lowers the baby''s risk of developing asthma or allergies.

Hooray!

So just tell your DH that swiping his apples was all in a good cause.
28.gif

Hooray, Robbie!! I know that''s a great feeling. I posted that pic of my new haircut as an idea for you. I love it and never thought I would cut my hair that short. Maybe it''s my maternal instinct kicking in.

I heard my doctor mention something about one of her patients eating sushi and she made a face like she didn''t approve, so I''ve just decided to stick to my "no sushi" rule throughout the pregnancy. I''m sure it''s fine in moderation just like most everything. I did mention to my friend that I wanted shrimp and she said "oh no...you can''t have that". I said "Well, sure I can." Then she said something about iodine. I simply told her that I''ve researched what I can and can''t eat. She doesn''t have any children, so my irritation took over. Damn those hormones.

Neat- congrats ! Every week is a milestone with twinks..what is the exact reason for bedrest though? Is it the cervix?

Pandora- yay for apples..I shall start scarfin then down as well ;)

Court- I don''t eat sushi for the same reason...even though it may be "safe" I don''t trust it..bc u don''t know the places u eat from and how they keep their products etc..and with raw fish u gotta be very careful(with raw anything for that matter)...I eat vietnamese soup..where they have very thin slices of raw beef ..and u add those to a boiling broth with noodles..mmm so good...and it cooks right in the soup..and the meat is always fresh and always cooks fully. And speaking of shrimp..I am making shrimp scampi tomorrow for my guests..I agree shrimp is fine to eat..of course everything in moderation..ok im getting hungry!

Thanks everyone!

Neat, congrats on reaching 34 weeks!

Courtney, I think I'm going to go with something similar. My haircut was supposed to be at 2:30, but we went to a 12:00 showing of Twilight and I didn't account for the previews so I had to cancel my appointment
8.gif
. I was going to just go somewhere else that takes walk-ins, but I'm not feeling very well (bad headache) so it will have to wait.

Here's our first picture of the baby!

Robbie, congrats on the heartbeat and lovely U/S picture! You and hubby must be thrilled
1.gif

That''s a great US pic Robbie. I bet hearing the heart beat was music to your ears. So exciting!!!

Awesome, Robbie.
9.gif
Remember to make a copy of that because the ultrasound paper thingys fade or mess up over time. Or so I''ve been told.

When we are preggo, we''re going to get copies made and put them in frames for my parents and his. And that''s how they''ll know they''re going to be grandparents.

I didn''t know you could get ultrasounds on Saturdays. I hope it''s like that around here, too. Would make it much easier for Paul to be with me for appointments.

Hope your headache is better soon.

Thanks guys! DH and I are really excited, but the whole thing felt kind of surreal, kind of like our wedding day. I really thought this would make it seem more real to me. Perhaps when I start feeling movement? DH says it made it seem more real to him, so I'm pretty happy about that though.

Fisher, we already made prints and I just put them in the "I heart my grandma" and "I heart my grandpa" frames that we're giving to our parents on Christmas and Hanukkah. That's how we're telling them too
1.gif
.

ETA: We're also pretty psyched about the imaging center having Saturday appointments. The doctor's office only has M-F 8:30-5ish so we have to take time off work for those. DH is coming to my next appointment because we both called off for the Monday after Thanksgiving to rest up from our trip to NY and I'm hoping that the one after that will be able to be scheduled on 12/2 which we both have off also. The doctor said we'd try to find the heartbeat with the doppler at the next one. If not then, then definitely at the one after. After that, he won't really need to be at any more since the 20 week u/s will be scheduled at the imaging center on a Saturday.

anyone know about the emmaljunga brand of strollers/carseats? www.emmaljunga.com

Just FYI if they don't sell them in the US they are illegal to use (the carseat anyway). I've never heard of the brand, but they have a ton of stroller brands in Europe that we don't have here. Especially in the luxury stroller category.

Neat- thanks for the tip about car seats ..didn''t know that...yeh im kinda bummed they don''t sell the brand here and I tend to go towards luxury and yeh usually in europe they like that..I really love their strollers...anyone from the uk hear of this brand..pandora? I will get more info on pricing and how to order them. Its still early to get stuff but I have nothing else to do to keep my mind off waiting for the u/s.

Robbie- really cute way to tell parents..love that idea...so exciting!

Hi! Popping in to ask the lovely preggo PSers a question about ob/gyn doctors since I know you've got to be pros
1.gif
When is the right time to get a ob/gyn doctor? I've always just gone to my general practioner for all my Gyno appointments. Since I've been married that doctor is now located about 45 mins from home, but still just 10 min from my work, so I never changed doctors when I moved cause I just make appts around work. But now hubby and I are planning on starting soon to TTC and I'm thinking it's better to have a doctor/ hospital closer to home, rather than closer to work, right? I do have a local ob/gyn doctor in mind that I'd like to see for my future pregnancy, but seeing as I'm not due for a gyn appt any time soon, is there any point in contacting his office until I'm really preggo? And doesn't a general practitioner first have to make a referal so you can see a specialist anyways? In that case it seems that my first step would have to be to get a new general practioner that is local.

Just looking for feedback and advice, not sure how to do this stuff
40.gif
. Thanks!

ETA: Robbie, I have to add how amazingly cute the first pic of your tiny baby is!!

Sunkist, a lot of your questions about referrals, etc. have to be asked of your specific insurance company. We can''t answer them. As for getting a gyno, it''s nice to have one in mind, and you could always go for a pre-conception "check up" to interview your new potential doctor. You''ll want to make sure that they are taking new patients too, sometimes doctors put moratoriums on accepting new patients, so in that case you''d want to get in for a check up before you are preggo to make sure you CAN get in once you are preggo.

Also a consideration is which hospital each doctor works out of and whether one practice''s OB''s are better regarded than the other.

Thanks, Kaleigh & Nyc! We knew we were going to tell my parents like that, but weren''t sure about DH''s. Then we were shopping at Kohl''s and the frames were on sale for about $6 so we thought, ok, this will work for all of them, lol.

Sunkist, I''m probably biased, but I think our little baby''s pretty freakin cute too :). Neat is right. Whether or not you need a referral just depends on your insurance. For mine, I don''t. I didn''t have a pre-conception visit, but a lot of people do. The first time I called to schedule an appointment w/ my OB was the day I got my bfp.

Sorry, never heard of them.

I''m not planning on looking at much until February. They have a huge baby show here in London and you can get mega-discounts at it so we are planning on doing the whole lot there.

I also feel a bit odd about buying anything ''big'' at this stage - probably silly of me, but I''d like to be well past the 20 weeks anomaly scans first - and if I research I will end up buying...

Cute picture Robbie!

I felt it was all very surreal at the 8 week one as well and didn''t feel real at all - I just felt very relieved. However the 12 week one was a very different experience. Probably because it looked recognisably baby-shaped and was moving around. DH was very taken with it all!

DH is only coming to scans and then to one of the big meetings with my psych team towards the end. All my appointments are at the hospital and it means he would have to take loads of time out of work to get there since I have so many. Also the appointment time isn''t always the time I get seen.

I had to wait 2.5 hours for the anaesthetist the other day - he was really apologetic poor man, as far as I was concerned whoever''s epidural he was doing came first! Also the hospital has a really great library so I just went there and got them to call me when they were ready. Fine for me, but not so fine if you have to get back to work...

DD- hows ur grandpa..was hoping you would give us an update

NF and Robbie, thanks so much! You''re right, I just need to call my insurance. Thanks for your input :)

Robbie

Random question for you...do you mind if I add you to our "baby update" list so you can let all the lovely preggo PSers know when I have my babies? I was thinking that you'd be a good person since you post pretty often and are already on this thread. If it makes you uncomfortable though I can ask Snlee or Gypsy instead!

It's getting close, so I am making the email lists and packing the hospital bag...can you tell I am an organizational freak??? I keep thinking every twinge is the start of labor...no idea why I have turned into a freak in the past 24 hours.

Neat, I''d love to be added to your list! Yay! I''ll send you a message on facebook with my email.

You rock Robbie! Thanks! Can't leave everyone hanging here until my DH makes it by to post.
2.gif
(And no I am not in labor currently as far as I know)

I''m so behind on this thread.

NF
Wow, you are that close already?
Lots of labor and delivery dust to you.

NYC
Oh my, didn''t know that there is another twin mommy in the making.
Double congrats.

Robbie
Cute u/s picture.
And what a wonderful way to announce it to the grandparents.

Blenheim
What a cute little belly you''ve got going.
Great u/s of your little one too.

Courtney
you are one gorgeous lady

Ok guys, I have a dilemma. I won a gift certificate for an hour long massage in September during a vendor fair at Curves. I found out I was pregnant a few days later and miscarried the week after and was kind of removed from the world for a bit.

Fast forward 5 weeks later, I found out I was pregnant again. I remembered my gift certificate and realized that it expires on 12/31.

The woman who does the massages is also a member at Curves as is my mom and a bunch of other people I know in the community. Only 2 of my very close friends know that I''m pregnant. No one else is being told until Christmas when I''ll be past 12 weeks.

I know I need to tell the massage therapist that I''m pregnant, but I don''t want to tell her before everyone else because I really don''t know her well enough to trust her with the secret so I set up an appointment for the last week in December (I''ll be 13w3d) and figured I''d tell her when I get there.

Pregnancy massage is definitely listed in the brochure, and the woman is an RN and a Certified Massage Therapist and has national certification in therapeutic massage and bodywork, but it doesn''t say anything about being certified in pregnancy massage. Is this an issue?

Also, any idea if it would be an issue to tell her when I get there that I''m pregnant? Is there anything that she might need for a pregnancy massage that she wouldn''t for a non-pregnancy massage?

Hey Robbie, I am just a lurker on the thread, but I am a registered massage therapist and thought I could help with your dilemma, first of all it is very important for the massage therapist to know you are pregnant and how far along you are ESPECIALLY if you are still in your first trimester! Not a whole lot of massage is advised during this time, but as long as the therapist is trained in prenatal massage you should be fine with some light treatment. Second the massage therapist should not disclose their patients/or their medical conditions to anybody just as your doctor would not due to confidentiality and if they are nationally certified, their board should hold them to this standard. I would highly advise letting the therapist know ahead of time and insuring they are certified to treat you for the health of you and that precious baby.
