Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

Phoenix- im sooo sorry u have to deal with this nonsense...personally I decided early on to avoid this issue and guess what none of my IL''s know to this day! Granted that may be a stretch for most...but I don''t like or speak to them so i didn''t want to deal with the bs..and dh has np with that thank goodness (he doesn''t speak to them mostly either..long story lol)...when I bring healthy babies home..they will then know!...I told my immediate family right away and everyone else at 20wks!...I would be fuming if dh had told ppl w.o. Discusing it with me first but what''s done is done and try not to stress. If G-d forbid smthg were to happen...then u don''t have to deal or talk or discuss it with anyone u don''t want to! Let dh handle the ppl he told. Again sorry but don''t stress and just let it be there''s not much to do about it now..except explain to dh that he needs to shut it lol.
Good luck ;)

Calling NEAT-

When u mentioned preeclampsia before I always thought it was just high bp related..so I looked it up last nite and im devastated about all the symptoms and how serious it is! I did have many of those symptoms such as rib/back pain but didn''t have others such as high bp and protein in urine and swelling...I don''t know what to make of it. I asked doc she said I may get preeclampsia later on!...im really scared about this! There is no way to prevent it??

I know it''s scary NYC, that''s why before I wanted you to make absolute sure the doctors were on top of it, because I noticed that many of the symptoms you complained about were ones that my doc told me to watch out for when I was pre-pre-eclamptic.

BUT if you are being monitored very regularly (BP and urine) they really should be able to spot it before anything bad happens. There''s nothing you can do to prevent it at this point-just keep drinking lots of water and try not to eat too much salt or take sudafed (both can up your BP). But just make sure you are familiar with the signs and if you start to get a headache that keep getting worse and worse as the day goes by and that tylenol won''t get rid of, GET TO THE ER.

Just hang in there and make sure they are monitoring you really closely, that''s the best way to make sure it doesn''t get out of control.

Neat- what signs and symptoms did u have pre-preeclampsia? And what did u do to not get it or keep it under control?

I have my bp monitor at home and check it everyday and they never told me anything was wrong with my urine...it just worries me that THEY don''t know what''s wrong..I would think they''d be able to diagnose an issue such as preeclampsia. They tell me its gallstones and adrenal hemmorage...but what if it is pre-preeclampsia??

I hardly ever get to read this thread anymore because of work and two little ones at home but just wanted to pop in quickly!

Ebree, you sneaky girl--CONGRATULATIONS!! I am soooo happy for you!!!!!

Robbie, you may be the cutest preggo I''ve ever seen (besides me, of course!

). Love seeing your photos!

DD, any day now. Can''t wait to hear all about it! Hang in there, sister.

I love all the baby bump photos. Believe it or not, it makes me miss being pregnant but after being knocked up for the better part of the last two years, I''m DONE! I''ll definitely live vicariously through all of you though! Sending everyone all my best wishes for uncomplicated, fun pregnancies!! Enjoy!

DD, are the CH and cramping turning into anything? I really really hope so!

Phoenix, I''m so sorry about all of the family problems. I know that there have been other threads around here about toxic in-laws where people have recommended certain books, but I can''t remember what they are. I think setting up appropriate boundaries early is best, and I certainly would not want my child alone with your MIL and her husband ever, and I might want to limit any visits to public places based on his past. That has to be so rough.

DH and I are cleaning the house today, "with a fine toothed comb" (his words - he thinks I''m going overboard, I think). And I just realized that I only have 2 weeks and 2 days to finish getting all of our birthing supplies.
6.gif
We''re supposed to have everything by the 36 week visit, which for me will be at 35w5d. I mean, I have most of them (the only thing I can think of missing right now is Gatorade, but I need to go over the list again), but that''s still SO SOON. Wow.

I know that today isn''t Friday. I missed the Belly pics that day...so Im posting late. This was taken last nite 10wks 4days. Its just a crappy cell phone shot, but it''ll have to do. Ive already got a bump. my pants dont fit anymore lol.

Here's moi at 20w2d- a bit late for photo Friday! Please forgive the fraying on the panel of my pregnancy jeans, I rolled it down for the pic. Note: This photo was taken from below pointing up- not the most flattering angle.

lili, snlee, curly- Thank you, ladies! We couldn''t be more excited.

Everyone looks so great!

Ebree & Sapphire, you look wonderful!

We just got back from visiting my mom in Orlando. My poor FI had to deal with an entire weekend of people telling us we''re having a girl lol. First my mom gives me a kiss on the cheek when we got there, grabbed my face, and said "girl." Then, my grandfather told him that he had 5 boys and 2 girls so he just "knows" it''ll be a girl. Then not 20 minutes later my mom''s friend came over, took one look at me, and said "you are so having a girl."

At this point, I''ll be completely shocked if it turns out to be a boy! The funny thing is that I feel like it''ll be a boy. So we''ll see what wins: my intuition that says boy or my hips that scream girl.

Only 5 days to go!!!
face23.gif

Fiery - Lots of people said I was having a girl because of the hip thing too!!! But nope, having a boy! I really think so much of how you carry is body type and has nothing to do w/ boy/girl thing. But what do i know

...thank you for answering my previous question! I actually went for an easy run on Saturday and felt so much better after the run!!!....just like my body was asking for it.

I had another question!!. My first appointment is tomorrow and I''m a little nervous. Yesterday I took a digital test and finally got to see the word "Pregnant"...I am so excited!!!!!!...can''t even express but I''m sure you guys know what I mean.

Anyway this morning I had some stretchy tinted CM in the TP (sort of like very very light pink/brown. Is that normal?. Ever since last week I have had a ton of CM. A week ago it had some color, but then went to completely clear until today. Is that normal? It sort of freaked me out....
5.gif

Also, is there anything I should expect to ask the Dr tomorrow??? I have no idea what to expect...

Thanks in advance!

I had another question!!. My first appointment is tomorrow and I''m a little nervous. Yesterday I took a digital test and finally got to see the word ''Pregnant''...I am so excited!!!!!!...can''t even express but I''m sure you guys know what I mean.

M~
A lot of people find the first appointment is a bit of an anticlimax.

With mine, I just went to see the GP as I had a normal appointment booked to get my usual prescription. I told him I was pregnant, he said great and filled in the form to send to the hospital to book my first appointment at around 10 weeks.

Then he weighed me so we had a base-line, discussed folic acid and my med and that was that.

Often they don''t do bloods or other tests - as long as you have a + HPT that is enough for them.

In the UK they only advise folic acid not prenatals and they only do beta''s if you are having IVF or are seeing an RE. In the USA you will probably be advised on a prenatal.

Regarding the tinged CM, a LOT of women get bleeding of some form in the first 3 months and often it doesn''t mean anything so I wouldn''t worry. Implantation bleeding can appear a lot later than you think - I bleed quite a lot at 8 weeks and so got an early scan where they showed me the implantation bleed.

RE exercise - they say not to start anything new or push yourself, and if you get a lot of bleeding or cramps etc it''s probably best to stop, but your body will tell you what you can do. Right now I find it hard to walk round a small supermarket, getting into the car leaves me breathless and DH has to put my socks on for me as I can''t reach anymore
20.gif
! Trust me, you will know when you are doing too much!

Don''t have time for a long response, but LOVE the belly shots! I should be able to add one this week as I think I''m finally getting a "real" bump!

DD, thinking of you, glad things seem to be going well, and hoping that delivery starts on its own sometime this week!

Mandarine, since you hadn''t been reading the ttc thread that long, in case you aren''t aware, having a "chemical pregnancy" is pretty common, where you get a positive, but then very shortly after (sometimes around when your period would normally be due), the pregnancy doesn''t stick and you miscarry. A lot of the women on here and the ttc thread have unfortunately experienced this. I''m not saying this for any reason other than that I don''t know how many people are aware of it.

I think it''s pretty normal to have pink tinged cm, and a LOT of women (msyelf included) do experience spotting/bleeding in the first tri without miscarrying, but you do want to be aware of the signs and call your doctor if you do experience real spotting/bleeding because it could be a sign that something is wrong. So if you continue with pink/red cm or it turns to bleeding, I would definitely talk to dr. about it.

My first appt. wasn''t until about 8 weeks, and that was just with a nurse to take family history. Good luck with yours!

As for me, not much knew except that I''m starting to wake up in the middle of the night with back pain. Dh is still on a horrible rotation where he has to get up ridiculously early, so I''ve been getting up early, which means I can barely make it up till 9 at night and I"m exhausted every day. whoops, that was the bell and students are here!

Thank you guys!.

Pandora - Thank you!!. Re exercise, that's sort of what I'm planning to do. An "easy" version of my routine while I feel good doing it...and adjusting if/when necessary! ;)).

Sabine - I've read about chemical pregnancies and I guess that's why it is concerning...I actually don't want to think about it too much because I only want to have positive thoughts!!...but thank you for bringing it up!.

When I called the Dr's office this morning I was actually surprised. The receptionist was almost rude. I told her I wanted to book an appointment because I was pregnant. This is how the conversation went after that:

Her: How do you know?
Me: I'm 2 days late and have taken a few positive tests
Her: We don't count HPT, so you have to make an appointment to confirm.
Me: umm, that's why I'm calling...to make an appointment (??)

So I asked if I was actually going to see the Dr and she said "of course you are" (kind of like in a rude tone). How would I know that?. So tomorrow I see the Dr and they will do something to confirm I'm pregnant. Not sure what that something is...

Dreamer, yay on fluid levels not going up!

Glad everyone like BPF! Yay! I love seeing everyone''s bumps on a regular basis.

NYCbkgirl, while it can''t prevent it, I''m pretty sure that we learned in my last Bradley Method class that the Brewer Diet can help to reduce your risk of developing it. The other woman in my class is eating the GD diet (can''t remember if you said you were going to do that only if you failed the test or not) and incorporating the high protein part of the Brewer Diet as well. I remember the teacher saying it''s controversial, but I think she said that''s just because it''s possible to follow it exactly and still develop pre-e and the other health things it''s supposed to prevent/reduce your risk for. Anyway, could be something to look into further if you''re worried about it. I''m kind of following it, though really just the high protein part. It''s hard to get enough protein when you''re not used to it, but I''m slowly making progress. I had over 100g of protein for more than half the week last week! Woohoo! I use babyfit.com to track my meals and add up the protein.

Curlygirl, awe, thanks!

Blen, I can''t believe you''ll have your little one so soon! Holy cow! My mom said to me the other day, "Don''t you get jealous when you go out with your friend K because her baby is already here? Doesn''t it make you wish yours was here already?" Maybe I''m a weirdo, but the thought has never crossed my mind. Actually, thinking about the baby coming soon makes me think about the million things I still have to do to get ready! We still have a ton of stuff to move out of the baby''s room. I''m hoping we get on the ball more after Daylight Savings. We don''t have a lamp in the room right now so after dark we can''t see anything and our weekends have been pretty busy.

Sapphire, cute belly!

Awe, cute bump Ebree!

Fiery, I can''t wait to find out what you''re having! Sabine too! Well, everyone really, but you 2 are the next to find out and I''m sitting here counting down the days with you both. Her appointment is the day after my next one and I''m actually getting a little worried that I''ll show up for mine a day late because I''m so fixated on her date instead of mine.
1.gif

Mandarine, lots of women have spotting/bleeding during 1st tri and it means nothing, but I''d definitely bring it up at your appointment. The first appointment is usually kind of boring unless you get an ultrasound. There isn''t much to see at that point though so most people don''t get one. Basically you''ll get weighed, have your bp taken, have blood drawn and you''ll fill out a ton of paperwork. Have DH there if he can be so that you don''t have to try to remember his family history on your own.

Pandora, DH said to me yesterday, "I was really mad at Pandora the other day," and me not thinking about the fact that he doesn''t frequent PS thought he was talking about you. I said, "Why, what did she do?" He gave me a kind of odd look and said that it had played a Britney Spears song for him. Duh, Pandora radio! LOL. I felt dumb.

Yesterday was my sister''s bday party and I was kind of worried about the comments/unwanted belly touching that I might get since it seems like everyone everywhere feels like it''s their place to comment about pregnant women and I figured it would be worse since my sister and her friends all have different forms of disabilities, most of them with at least something mild that makes them less aware of proper social conduct. I only had one truly annoying comment. Her friend said something about how much it was going to hurt to have the baby and how it sucks to be a woman. Do we have to remind me that this is going to hurt? I''m trying to think of it as bad pain, but rather the good kind of muscle pain that means your body is working hard. Oh well, could''ve been worse. The only unwanted belly touching came from my mom, lol. I didn''t tell her not to because it actually bothered me surprisingly less than I thought it would and she was just so excited introducing her grandbaby to her friends and bragging about how she''ll be watching it when I go back to work. I''m pretty sure one of my sister''s guy friends was staring at my boobs for a good 20 minutes or so while she opened her presents, but I wasn''t 100% sure and I don''t know what I would''ve said/done even if I was sure. I hate situations like that. Definitely made me uncomfortable, but calling him out and making him feel bad probably would''ve just made me feel worse.
14.gif

My bump is starting to stick out enough at the top that bras (who am I kidding? I only have 1 real bra that semi-fits anymore) are becoming really uncomfortable and they''re leaving marks on my upper belly. Luckily DH accidentally shrunk my sports bra on Saturday (ok, it''s possible that I really just grew that much that it fits well now
8.gif
) so I''m wearing that instead of a regular bra today. It''s totally visible since the sports bra has a much narrower neckline than most of my shirts, but I just don''t care. I couldn''t stomach the idea of being miserably uncomfortable today.

NYC There is nothing that has been scientifically shown to prevent it. Just keep a close eye on things and as I said if new symptoms develop don't be scared to call L&D or go to the ER. Better to be safe than sorry. Most complications occur when women notice symptoms but either aren't aware that they should go to the DR or just decide to "suck it up" and don't want to go. If you are being monitored closely and watch yourself closely if you develop it they can make sure you and the babies are taken care of quickly.

And as a precautionary measure try not to eat too much salt or take Sudafed, both of which can raise your blood pressure more. But if you are going to get it you are going to get it regardless of this.

Mandarine, sorry the receptionist was rude. Yuck. Most likely all they''ll do is dip a test into the cup you pee in. I guess it''s possible that they''ll do a blood test, but it seems like most doctors use strip tests which can actually be less sensitive than the hpt''s we use at home. No idea why she would say that a hpt doesn''t count. Boooo her.

Well, Friday really was the start of something!!! I'll post the longer story later but here is the short version...

After going to bed at 12pm (bad Dreamer) I awoke at 1am to pee and my water broke in the toilet! Per Doctor's orders we headed out to the hospital right away. Labour looked like it was starting, but my fluid was meconium stained, so we were in a whole different ball park (I think all the coughing freaked baby out!)... a really nice OB was called in to consult and at 10am when nothing was happening I was induced when I was 1cm dialated and 70% effaced. I did not take an epidural until 2:30 when it was clear than the fast and furious contractions I was having were not actually accomplishing much of anything--still only 2cm dialated after hours of HARD labour hooked up to an IV and two continuous fetal monitors. I got the epi and slept for two hours--sweet relief I had been up for 27 hours at that time. Awoke 2 hours later and was fully dialated and baby's head had FINALLY decended into the right positon! Waited another couple of hours, then pushed like a champ for two 30 minutes sessions (with a 30 minute rest in between) and then VOILA... out popped...

Our Son, Hunter Anthony!

Born at 9:11pm on Saturday, February 21, 2009. He weighed 8lbs. 7oz. and was 21 inches long!

Although it wasn't the natural labour I wanted, I had no episiotomy, tearing, or need for mechanical help. And despite everyone constantly warning me about the very very high possibility of a c-section, I am very happy that I pushed him out under my own steam. He is a darling boy and we are enjoying him so much. He is BFing like a champ and is very healthy! And born on his due date... I always knew my son would be special

Oh my gosh, Dreamer!!!!!!!!! He is beautiful!! I am so excited for you and absolutely amazed that you were able to push him out like that with nothing major happening. You shouldn''t be bummed about not being able to have him naturally. That epi is absolutely NEEDED after being induced, but you know that I am sure! I can''t believe your water broke too! Only 10% of womens'' waters break on their own, right?

Yay, Dreamer!!! He''s beautiful!!! I''m so happy for you!
