NYC, it''s not really a diet diet. More like a plan for balanced eating. No calorie counting or anything like that. It seems like getting a lot of protein is the main point. I''m getting the majority of mine from milk, eggs and cheese.

YAY DREAMER!!! Welcome Hunter!!! Gosh he is SO CUTE!!!
30.gif

CONGRATS DREAMER!! Hunter is so handsome! And I LOVE LOVE LOVE the name!!! So glad everything went well!

Robbie- does meat count as protein? I eat a lot of homemade food (my mama lol)...like chicken soups, chicken cutlets and beef but its always paired with a sidedish like macaroni, buckwheat or rice....I don''t drink much milk (maybe a glass a day ) but I take calcium supplemements. I''ve had an aversion to eggs for most of pregnancy!
Ugh everything is just so difficuly..grrr!

OMG OMG OMG CONGRATS Dreamer on the BEAUTIFUL arrival of HUNTER!!!!!!!!!

hey ladies...

can anyone recommend an over-the-counter prenatal vitamin? The one i''m currently taken is prescribed and is no longer being made. My insurance won''t cover any other brand still being made

Almost any one is fine. Consumer reports did a big report on the efficacy of a number of name brand multivitamins and their conclusion was basically that there isn''t a major difference between them, so just buy one that your stomach tolerates.

I think I have had rainbow light and target brand...both were fine.

De-lurking here to say CONGRATULATIONS to Dreamer and Mr. Dreamer! Hunter is absolutely precious!!!

thanks Neat - I really liked the one I was on...i''ve been using it the past year and then all of a sudden, it''s no longer made. Now I have to find one i like....

thanks!

Congratulations Dreamer!

Your little boy is gorgeous!

I tried the one a day prenatals. Not bad. I just prefer those that have a stool softner (although thankfully that symptom seems to be calming down).

On another note, I have awful heartburn. I have had it since yesterday. I tried eating a banana but that didn''t work. Any other suggestions?

It definitely does! I have an aversion to pretty much all meats except filet mignon (sometimes it makes me want to gag though) and occasionally ground beef (meatloaf and fast food burgers seem to be ok still) so I've just been getting my protein in other ways. I uploaded the nutrition chart that we were given in class. Not sure if it'll work though since it's a pdf and I've never tried to upload pdfs before. It also lists protein counts for common foods.

Mela, I'll have to try that tomorrow! I caved and wore my regular bra today because my boss is in town and I'm trying to look halfway decent.

ETA: I think we need to see a pic of this bugaboo!

Awww fiery, so sorry about the HB. I had it bad too. Make sure your stomach is never 100% empty...that was the biggest thing for me, I used to get it BAD in the middle of the night. And you can take all the tums you want.

aww CONGRATS dreamer!!!

hunter is so adorable - glad to hear things went well even if it was not 100% what you had planned. i''m SO glad you didn''t have any tearing...lucky you!! even though our boys were v close in size i had a 3rd degree tear that still hurts at times and jelly is 6 wks old today!

hope you, mr dreamer and hunter are enjoying these blissful first days. ENJOY EVERY SECOND

Thanks so much everyone for your congrats! Things are going well, in large part because my DH and my mom are here doing basically everything. I basically lie around and eat and feed Hunter and try to sleep when I can. Last night was rough, as my midwife warned... milk is just starting to come in, so Hunter was really hungry last night getting only collostrom. He basically fed every for 30 minutes and then was fussy for 30 minutes, then "dozed" for 30 minutes and then it all started again. At 8 am he finally had a feed and feel asleep for real! I woke DH and said "Take him and get out!" LOL... then I slept for 3 hours.

Still, I adore him. It is so special that I have been given the opportunity to care for him and raise him to be a good man. That is so overwhelming!

...I can''t believe your water broke too! Only 10% of womens'' waters break on their own, right?
Yeah, about 10 - 15% I think. It is more common with polyhydramnios because of the extra pressure in the uterus.

Dreamer-That''s so great that DH and mom are there to help you as much as possible!!!

Neat-Thanks for the suggestion. I filled up my stomach and the heartburn has reduced significantly.

Mandarine-When is your appointment?

Cdt- can u say what brand u used? I used primacare and they said also no longer made...and switched to ob natal (these are both rx)...then I find that the primacare was recalled bc of some iron issues! And there are a lot of brands also recalled...so I am looking into that some more..scary when you''ve been taking smthg so long and its been recalled esp while pg! But pharmacist said its nothing to worry about.

Fiery- milk is key in helping heartburn....drink some cold milk when u feel it and should help. I of course have been on nexium for yrs and it was safe to take during pg (category b med)...or ask ob for pill options to help ;)

DD- that''s too funny telling dh take him n get out lol!...totally smthg I will do lol...soon it will all be routine..rest up mama!

Robbie- thanks for chart didn''t try to upload it yet (bc im on phone ) so will check later ;)

That is great your mom is there, dreamer. I''m glad he finally feel asleep enough for you to take a nap!

How much longer are you supposed to be producing collostrum before milk?

Dreamer - what was it like when your water broke? Sound? Sensation? Deeeeeeeeeetails please ;)

NYC - wow...didn''t know that''s why they weren''t making them. I was also taking Primacare. The problem is that the alternatives are not covered by my insurance. So I''m trying to find something else....

thanks for giving me the info, no one told me it was because of a recall.

Cdt-
Yeh my nurse told me about the recall so I called pharmacy she said they don''t make them any longer but when I asked about recall she looked it up and sure enough they were recalled. Im still upset about it bc I duno exactly why...didn''t search it yet but I will get the ob natals now..weird that ur ins covers prima but not ob...its same thing ...but otc ones are good too just duno which.

Hey there ladies!

I''m still hanging in there!

PSA FOR PREGOs WITH STUFFY NOSES - and believe me, I am one - I have found the CURE! Okay, that may be an overstatement, but holy cow. I''ve started using a Neti pot with a saline solution. It is a total game changer. I use it twice a day - once in the morning and once at night - and I have gone from CONSTANTLY stuffed up and blowing my nose to pretty much normal. No more drip! And the best part - totally natural and completely safe! It is absolutely amazing! /End PSA

Neat - I don''t know if it was the power of suggestion or what, but I''m 12w3d now...and for the past few days, my anxiety has dropped off a ton! I feel like a different person. Or at least the same person I was before I got prego!

DD - Glad you got some sleep! Hunter is just so beautiful! And that''s awesome that you have a ton of support! I think that makes a HUGE difference in transitioning to life with a baby!

CDT - I''ve been taking GNC prenatals and I''ve been happy with them. But like Neat said, I don''t think it matters much! The non-script ones are pretty inexpensive, so if you can''t get insurance to cover them, I don''t think you''ll be in too much trouble.

Robbie - Thanks for your input on the anxiety meds and the whole needing them issue. And I totally understand where you are coming from...and believe me, six weeks ago, I KNEW I needed them - but wasn''t willing to take anything until I was out of the first trimester. I''m feeling better, but I had my doctor call in a script for the hydroxyzine - the as needed anti-anxiety med - and use it only if I feel I need to. But at this point, I''m feeling MUCH better! And if I recall, you were considering a doula, right? DH and I have discussed that as well - I''m not so into the drug-free child birth, but definitely interested in having an advocate in the delivery room. Please let me know what you decide and how it goes!

Mandarine - Hope your appointment went well!

CC - Hope all is well!

popping by to say congratulations DD! Hunter is such a handsome little man. I absolutely adore the yawning photo.

Dreamer, I''m glad your milk is coming in and that her is eating real meals now! Also glad you got some sleep and have help!

I''ve actually been wondering, I''ve heard that milk can take a few days to come in. If that''s true, then what do you do until it comes in? Do you have to supplement with formula, or do you just keep trying to feed them?

Mandarine, how was your appt. today?

Cdt and NYC, I have no idea if this was your prenatal or not, but I heard recently that one was recalled just because they had the wrong color dye on them or something, although I doubt that they would stop making them if that was the problem with yours.

Lysser, glad you are feeling better about things! Has the spotting tapered off at all?

Mrs, so excited for you being so soon!!!

Mela, anything new with you?

As for me, I''m enjoying a rare unbusy day. I was so caught up on all my grading and planning that I actually had NOTHING to do during my plan period today, and don''t have any work to do tonight. Plus, dh got off work early, got home before me, and is already planning something to make for dinner!

Glad to hear you''re feeling better! I''ve been really lucky and the hormones have actually made my anxiety almost non-existant. It''s like the hormones are acting as my anti-anxiety meds. I hope they do the same for you, but it sounds like they already are.

The 2 doula groups that we''re looking into right now are Birth Doulas of Pittsburgh and Heart and Hands. I''ve spoken to both on the phone, but I don''t know that I''m leaning more towards one or the other yet. We got info mailed to us on the Doulas of Pittsburgh, but I''m still waiting on the info from Heart and Hands. Apparently both do (or will soon) have meet the doula nights where you can go and get a feel for what they''re like. I''m hoping we can go to at least one to help us make the decision. If you find any other groups or individuals that have good reviews let me know. I got recommendations for these groups from Mr. Midwife after he told me that he wouldn''t be able to be our midwife.

I got some awesome news today from my wedding photographer! She''d already offered to do a free maternity shoot which I get to schedule when I have lunch with her this weekend, but today she asked if she could document the birth process for us since she offers it as a service on her site, but hasn''t had the opportunity to do a shoot like that yet. I''m so excited because DH and I have been talking about this possibility for a while now and we were talking about actually paying for it and now I get to be her test dummy and get it for free! Woohoo! Don''t worry, there won''t be any crowning shots or anything like that, more like our reactions to seeing the baby for the first time, DH cutting the cord, etc. I just have to double check at my appointment next week that the hospital will allow photography during delivery and that she won''t count as a support person in the room since you''re only allowed 2 during the actual delivery and if we have a doula, DH and the doula would be it. I''m seriously so excited about this possibility though!

I''ve been taking Rennies (they''re OTC and seem to do the trick).

Yoghurt seems to help as well.

Yay on the Bugaboo - they are so pretty!

I have been battle the bra issue as well - since I''m at home most of the time I tend to just not bother (the bump is now holding them up anyway
20.gif
). However I just can''t get on without my underwiring - it''s not comfy but it''s still a lot more comfy than the maternity ones that I just HATE!

I went bra-hunting in desperation the other week and came home brandishing my new lifesafer - Sloggi do a really nice black T-shirt bra that is just so incredibly comfortable and doesn''t dig in and it holds everything up in a reasonable way.

All I want now is a bump bra - I seriously need scaffolding! I had no idea that a bump could weigh THAT much - and to make things worse Daisy will not sit back near my spine when I''m walking about - nope, she lies in a transverse position with her back against my stomach right out as far as she can and makes it even heavier. Wretched child!
