Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

I know two Carters, an 18 year old girl and a 52 year old man. I don''t know any Emmetts so it must be really new!

We used to have a neighbor when I was little girl who was Emmett. He was an old, old man! So it''s not a new name, but certainly not a "popular" one right now (or any time that I can remember). I appreciate names more when they''re less-used, though, Makes them more special and memorable. Example: Emmett is one of the only neighbors I remember as a child, maybe because of his name!
9.gif

rats blen! thanks for being honest.. what you described is my total fear.. carter or myles etc. are going to be the next "jennifer or heather" (again, no offense to either of these names, but i have 3 friends that are heather and 2 jennifers :) my quest to find something classic, yet not overly popular is harder than i thought. i do heart leo. (in fact, it was the first name that i suggested to DH) - i think the more i "suggest" these names to hubby the more he''ll come around... blen your ''george'' fits perfectly into that classic, yet not overly popular category.. good pick!

as far as first ultrasounds go.. my practice specifically scheduled the first apt around 6 weeks and then my first ultrasound at 9 weeks so we would for sure see something (or nothing).. anyhoo the only reason i saw the blob earlier this week was because i was having some issues/complications and they brought me in.. it was really quick and i don''t think it was the "real one" - that''s tomorrow.. it was just.. "yes, heartbeat, yes looks normal, no blood clots, see you friday" - which i was extremely grateful for but i''m soooo looking forward to tomorrow.

nighty night ladies... hasta tomorrow!

Quick question for you ladies - when did you/will you have your first ultrasound? My first appt. is April 1, and I know that it''s not their practice to do an ultrasound at that appt. I will be 6.5 weeks at that point. I would really like to request that they do an ultrasound at or right after that appt because DH and I will be seeing my parents and brothers a week and a half later for Easter (and my 30th b-day!) and I would really like to tell them that I am pregnant since we don''t see them that often. But I would feel a lot better telling them if we had heard a heartbeat. It seems like a lot of people get early ultrasounds and I''m not afraid to ask, but I don''t want to if it''s out of line.

Peony, I am a little jealous of your not wanting to eat anything, I feel like I could eat anything in sight, but I am not sure I can blame that on pregnancy. I am using pregnancy as an excuse to eat a lot of ice cream though! DH keeps telling me it''s too early for cravings.
I had my first u/s at nearly 8 weeks - but only because I started bleeding and the EPU wanted to check if I was miscarrying or not.

Otherwise I was booked for an NT scan at 12 weeks.

Hi gals! I am having an issue that hopefully you can help me with. I''m 5w1d, and I''m having a LOT of trouble eating. I''m somewhat nauseated and vomiting occasionally, but mostly every food seems absolutely disgusting. Even foods I usually like! If I didn''t have to eat at all right now I wouldn''t, because I have very little appetite. However, I''ve already lost 3 pounds and I''m worried that the baby is not getting sufficient nutrition. Help! Thanks so much.
9.gif
Welcome to morning sickness.

I had it from 6 weeks to 26 weeks.
14.gif
24/7 nausea and vomiting 10x a day and then some. My GP put me on Phenergan (promethazine) which made a huge difference. I still had mild nausea and no appetite, but I stopped throwing up which meant I wasn''t getting dihydrated like I was the first week.

I couldn''t go into the kitchen or a shop that sold food for weeks as it made me feel so terrible. I ate nothing but Granny Smith''s apples for 7 weeks. Neither my OB or my GP were worried at all about the weight loss or my apples-only diet.

The baby will take everything it needs from you - it can extract calcium from your bones if necessary
23.gif
- so don''t worry about the baby, they are very efficient parasites!
9.gif

In the UK we are only recommended to take folic acid as prenatals can make your m/s far worse, so they are almost never prescribed.

I saw one of my best friends the other day who is an OB. She''s 7 weeks pg and has already lost nearly 20 pounds - I was shocked when I saw her. She''s hit the meds, but still has no appetite.

Thanks so, so much everyone!!!!!! It''s great to hear about everyone''s experiences and I really appreciate all of the insights and tips! There is another sticky situation coming up tomorrow. Next week is my last week at my current job, and my coworkers are taking me and another coworker who''s leaving out for drinks at a wine bar. I''ve already said that I can go since everyone was really gung-ho about it, but how am I going to manage to order water without arousing suspicion? I guess that I could technically have a diet Coke, but I''m trying to avoid artificial sweeteners. Ugh, this is going to be so awkward. Luckily I''m not a big drinker so people won''t be shocked, but it''s a wine bar, ya know? I really need a plan.
3.gif

Amber: I''m 22DPO, and I''m still temping! It''s the only thing that makes me feel like the baby is still there, even though I haven''t had any bleeding/spotting. My BBT is crazy high. It was 99.3 today. I feel hot all the time.

November: I''m so glad that your test results are excellent! I''m just so tickled that this cycle ended up so much better than either of us imagined.
9.gif

Peony maybe you can ask for a cranberry juice at your outing. That''s always good
1.gif
That is so wierd that we are all experiencing different things in our early stages of pregnancy! So far I don''t have any aversions. Instead I''ve had a very big appetite
3.gif
The other night I out-ate my DH on our steak dinner. I ate all of mine and some of his! He was quite impressed
2.gif
I''m sorry your not feeling to good though. I say eat anything that sounds the least bit appetizing. Muffins? Jello? Soup? If not, I''m sure the baby is fine. At least you know your body is doing it''s job!
9.gif

November, I think it''s fine for you to ask for an ultrasound. I still need to call my doc and see if there''s going to be one and my first appt. I forgot to ask when I made the appt.

Does any one use heart-rate monitors when they workout? My trainer suggested I get one. I don''t know if it useful or not though.

CDT congrats on being in the thrid trimester!!
36.gif
You''re almost there!

Sapphire congrats on getting MARRIED!!!!

Amber that''s so cool that they said you''ll probably be able to see the heart!

Guys, I think I already have a baby bump. Or a belly fat bump. My BMI before getting pregnant was 19-20, and I didn''t have belly fat. Two years ago when my BMI was 23, I just had more fat in my thighs and belly and everywhere, but no bump. Can it be a baby bump this early? WTF?

Phoenix - I know a few of us here felt like we had "bumps" that early too - but alas - it was the bloat. It seems hard to believe that bloating can cause such a "belly". I think Robbie was rockin'' a good bloat belly for a while (if I''m not mistaken). I feel like she posted pics of it.

Anyways, as I was saying....what happened to me was, when I hit 12 weeks, the bloat literally disappeared! I basically had a "flat" stomach again. It wasn''t flat, because I''d gained some weight over the first 12 weeks, but it was certainly not bloated out into a bump. I think my REAL baby bump started around 14-16 weeks. That was when the real little belly popped out.
2.gif

Viszla - Have you seen these websites?

http://www.babynamewizard.com/voyager
http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames/ (You can get lists by year or by name.)
http://nametrends.net/ (You can graph popularity not just by name but also by naming group, such as names that are traditionally surnames like Carter or such as all of the -aiden names.)

I've found them really useful to help see what's really popular, and also to help put things in perspective in terms of how many kids are actually being named a certain name. There are nowhere near as many babies being named Carter now as there were Heather or Jennifer at their peaks, but if you graph it - I'm not sure if it's still on the rise or if it's already reached its peak. Emmett has had a slight recent uptick but still seems to be an old man name to me (which I love - hence George and Theodore and Walter etc). Miles was on our list for a while. I'm not sure why we took it off (I think that George just ended up sounding more like this baby), but it does look like it's been steadily increasing in popularity over the last 30 years. The increase isn't sudden enough and it's not on enough little ones that I think of it as trendy. And, to put in yet another plug for the "Beyond Jennifer and Jason, Madison and Montana" book, I know that it does group things in sections like names that don't have nicknames.

On the husband front, I think some guys like names that they're more familiar with and I think that suggesting things multiple times can make them seem more familiar. I mean, don't go overboard and leave post it notes all over the house or anything, but I know that DH has changed his opinions on some names over the course of the pregnancy just from them getting more exposure. Not sure if I should be one to give husband advice though, with all of my recent griping.
2.gif

PS - I'm in love with Alice. DH doesn't want it for this child, but says he'll be ok with it on a subsequent one. (Whatever the heck that means.)

Fiery - we don't have cable either. I've been toying with the idea of getting it for when I'm at home with the baby - might be nice to watch during all of the time that I'll spend BFing. We do have Netflix though, and an awesome library. Hmm.

Sabine - yay on sorting out the shower craziness!

November - congrats on the great betas.

Sapphire - congrats!!

I've been uber achy and waddly today in the hip and lower back area, and I finally put two and two together - the last time this happened (last week) was also the day after I lifted weights. I've been trying to balance it with yoga and lots and lots of walking because my body's going to need to open up a ton here soon and so I don't want everything to be tight, but it looks like it's just finally time to give it up. Boo.

Oh! I got supervisor permission to wear flip flops to work, which is expressly against the dress code but my feet are just too swollen for dress shoes these days. Woohoo!

Ok, bed time for me.

37 weeks exactly, a.k.a. TERM! a.k.a. my "due date" - JUST KIDDING.
3.gif

ETA - I've been feeling kind of sad today that this pregnancy may be over soon. I mean, right now I get the baby all to myself, 24/7. And it's just a baby - not a little boy or a little girl - which seems freeing. And it's easier taking good care of it now than it's ever going to be again. And, other than after I lift weights, which I'm going to quit, I'm still feeling pretty good and not as horribly miserable as I thought I would be. I'm actually doing a lot better now than I was at 28-30 weeks. Anyways, I'm having mixed feelings about this.
40.gif
But maybe I'll feel differently in like 4 weeks if I haven't given birth by then.

i''m not pregnant but i follow up with your girls to see how you are and hope to join you soon.

peony, if you aren''t overtly religious and people won''t call your bluff on it, you can always say that you gave up alcohol for Lent :-)

my husband''s not Catholic, but that''s how he got out of a St. Paddy''s drink-a-thon with his co-workers when all he wanted to do was come home and sleep.

Cheers!

< any one use heart-rate monitors when they workout?

I am not pregnant, but I have ALWAYS worn a HR monitor when I work out and I LOVE IT! It has really helped me achieve major fitness goals in the past as well as burn fat. I have the Polar F11 and it is simple to use and to track your progress or even just keep a record of your workouts within your target heart range. I really can''t say enough about it.

Ohhh good idea!

Peony-there are a lot of drinks that look "real" if the lent thing isn''t believable for you-just get there early if you can, explain to the bartender/server-and have them supply you with "cranberry-vodkas" all night, but without the vodka of course!

Peony,

Girl, I hope your tummy feels better soon! It is good news though, that you''re feeling sick. So yay for a healthy baby!!

be back in a bit.

Peony, another good "fib" is that you''re feeling sick/just took some cold medicine so don''t want to drink.

November, if I hadn''t had spotting early on, I wouldn''t have gotten an u/s until the 20 week anatomy scan! We opted out of the n/t scan at 12ish weeks. But like others say, it doesn''t hurt to ask, but if they don''t regularly do them that early and you want one, you might have to pay out of pocket.

Sapphire, CONGRATS on getting married!!! I had to go back and find your post, but it sounded lovely!!!

Phoenix, I''m going to echo Mela and say your bump is probably the infamous bloat bump at this point. I had one early on that lasted until about 12 weeks, and then I had nothing until close to 19 weeks!

As for me, how crazy that right after Robbie and my mom put down the deposit for my shower, MIL calls my mom to tell her she''d like to have the shower at her house! When my mom told her they already put down a deposit, MIL said to get their money back,e tc., but my mom is just sticking with the rec. center as per my request. I''m a little peeved at MIL. She''s all upset now, but we flat out asked her if she wanted it at her house last week, and she said no, so at this point I don''t care if she feels bad, I kinda think she should feel a little bad, but oh well! I''m just happy we have a location and a date/time!

Hey ladies!

Here's my Friday pic....I think my belly looks bigger this week!! 27w 1d

27 weeks collage.JPG

Fiery, no big bday plans. We have birthing class that day and we''ll probably go out to dinner with my parents the day before and have dinner at the in-laws the day of. I''ve got a Mary Kay party to go to that Friday so I really don''t even have time for plans! I''m kind of hoping that our crib will come in early though and we can spend the day setting it up. That would be a fun bday
1.gif
.

Peony, if I remember correctly, you''re Jewish, so the Lent thing won''t work. Could you maybe fake sick at the last minute? My in-laws suspected for a while apparently because I''d been passing up drinks even though I''m not a big drinker. Good luck!

Sunkist, I haven''t been wearing one since I have a pretty good feel for what I feel like when I''m working too hard or not hard enough, but I used to wear one all the time. I really liked it. Especially that it logged the workout for me. It''s also nice to have it beep when you''re not working hard enough or even when you''re working too hard. I have a polar one, but I can''t remember which model. It''s from college so it might not even be one they make anymore. It had a chest strap and a watch receiver.

Phoenix, Mela''s got a good memory. I did post a crazy bloat pic. I''ll attach it to the end of the post. The first pic is my crazy bloat at 10w2d. The 2nd is my bump first thing in the morning at 14 weeks exactly. The real bump is way smaller than the crazy 10 week bloat! My bloat never really disappeared, but it did lessen. I''m still pretty bloated at the end of the day even now though so I try to take my bump pics first thing in the morning so I can see the true bump.

Blen, yay for flip flops! Lucky duck! Part of my job involves going out on the shop floor and taking pics of our equipment during the manufacturing process so even if I was allowed to wear flip flops to work, I''d still have to have closed toed shoes for the shop. Lame.

Sabine, that''s so weird about your MIL! I really don''t get her a lot of the time.

So yesterday I met Sabine''s mom at the rec center to put down the deposit. The room is really nice! We''re both really excited about it and were talking about how we could decorate. While we''re standing there talking I swear I can hear my sister. There''s a track on the upper level that my mom and sister walk at and sure enough we ran into them a few minutes later. This is when the craziness started. My mom and Sabine''s mom start talking about how excited they are to become grandmothers and then my mom asks if the baby''s moving (she does this about every time I see her). I told her "he" wasn''t right then, but I''ve found that if I poke him, "he" usually kicks/punches back now. So my mom starts putting her hands all over my belly and poking/touching and then Sabine''s mom says, "I want to feel!" so everyone (including me, lol) has their hands on my belly trying to get this little one to kick, but baby would not cooperate. LOL. I totally thought I''d had having people touch my belly since I''m really not a touchy feely person, but surprisingly it doesn''t bother me. We probably looked pretty silly though.

After I got home I decided to look through the bag of bedding and blankets from my SIL that she''d given us a few weeks ago to see if she had the matching sheet or curtain for the Peter Rabbit set. She didn''t, but I found a Baby Bjorn in the bag! I think it''s even the same one we registered for! I was so excited because that thing is expensive and now we can take it off the registry! It needs to be washed (hoping I can throw it in the washing machine, but I didn''t check yet) and we''re going to have to try to find directions on how the heck to use it, but yay!

And here''s the infamous bloat pic:

Ah bloat. I still think I''m just bloated.

If it makes you feel any better, I was in maternity pants at week 13 because all of my baby fat decided to go straight to my hips and rear
emthup.gif

The other day my coworker tried to make me feel better by saying that it''s ok because you can lose from your hips/rear much faster and easier than your belly. If that were true, I wouldn''t have been wide for the past 27 years of my life
4.gif

CDT - you look fantastic! I can see a little difference!

Blen - It makes total sense that you'd be sad about the pregnancy being over. I thought that I would impatient to have her, but I had a friend ask me yesterday if I could have her now, would I? I thought about it and decided no way! I'm not ready. I need at least another 3-4 weeks. Of course it would be a relief on my back and other things, but...no, I'm just not ready!

Sapphire - Congrats!! That sounds like such a wonderful day. So intimate and romantic.

Robbie - That's so funny about your mom and Sabine's mom...too cute. Babies never wants to cooperate when people force it! I can't wait to hear all about Sabine's shower.

I have a new favorite food: blueberry bagel with reduced fat cream cheese. I've been thinking about it all week and finally picked one up this morning. Even if it made me late.
1.gif

We have the breastfeeding class tomorrow which I'm excited about. Except that it's from 9am-3pm!
23.gif
Poor DH doesn't want to go, but the instructor from our last class said that husbands go too and I don't want to be the only mommy by myself! I told him if there weren't many men there or if the class was super boring, I'd let him go and he could pick me up at 3. He's been so wonderful with everything and working so hard around the house. He built this closet himself!! I hung up anything that had hangers on it and just slipped everything else in a shelf. I still need to wash and organize everything, but I loved putting it all in the closet last night! I love all the storage!

nursery closet.jpg

Courtney-I love the closet and all of her little dresses
30.gif

CDT-You look great!

Robbie-Yay for the Bjourn! I actually don''t mind when people touch my stomach as long as it isn''t men (except FI of course).

So I''m trying to convince FI that it is completely appropriate to spend $200 on a Marc Anthony concert. He is performing by himself on the 9th. He hasn''t been to Miami alone in a really long time. So far I''m losing the battle. He keeps telling me stuff about being responsible and we have a baby on the way and we''ve seen him already 4 times. I even told him that it can be an anniversary present (our 7 year is on the 5th and we aren''t going to PR anymore since we''re going to Vegas in May) but he''s not budging. Never mind the fact that I actually want floor seats which are going for $250 each
17.gif
. Boo to responsible Mr. Fiery
38.gif

OMG.. your closet looks heavenly!!! how i would give my right arm (not really) :) for a closet like that. i live in a pretty old neighborhood and we''re lucky to even *have* closets in our bedrooms.

LOL about the bloat.. i actually asked the dr. today if this was "normal" and he said that it''s probably a combination of #1 constipation (check) and #2 boating (check) :) the main problem is that i work in fashion and how i look/dress is important to my job.. this is going to be hilarious/expensive transition :P

p.s. cd i hope and pray i look as perfect preggo at 27 weeks as you do.. too cute! swallowed a volleyball :)

so i got to see and hear the heartbeat today :) *swooooonnnnnnn* and the dr. basically gave us the thumbs up to tell people... such a relief.. i feel like i''m on cloud nine. i''m measuring exactly where i thought i was 8w5d AND he was able to do a regular ultrasound, not internal. bonus!

blen, i have all of those websites up in tabs that i''m going to start flipping thru.. also, the book in my amazon cart :) let the adventure begin!

TGIF!!! and happy FIRST DAY OF SPRING!!! whoo hoo! if you live near a rita''s italian ice they give out free ones on the first day of spring... soooo goood! it''s my friday night treat tonight
36.gif
18.gif

Oh and here''s my Friday pic!

34 weeks, 2 days!

34 weeks.jpg

All of you look so very cute with your baby bumps! I hope I look half as cute as you all do in a few months!

Vizsla - How exciting that you got to hear the heartbeat - I feel like that''s what will make it real. Thanks for the heads up on Rita''s - I love that stuff. You don''t happen to live in the Philly area, do you?

Peony, I have the same issue with drinking - my crowd are pretty big drinkers generally, and it will defniitely arouse suspicion if I do not have a drink. We have events that will include drinking every weekend for the next 7 weeks, so I am just going to do the best I can. I''ll either have a cranberry juice or club soda and pass it off as vodka and cranberry or vodka and soda or just get a glass of wine or beer to hold.

Sabine - I''m glad that Robbie and your mom got everything settled for your shower - I hope we get to see some pics!

CDT, you''re so tiny! I bet you end up with no stretchmarks!

Courtney, I LOVE
30.gif
your closet! Is that a closet organizer or did your DH actually just pick up pieces of wood and make it? I want to do something like that to our nursery closet. Right now we just have a bar going across the top and a shelf above it. You have the cutest bump!

Fiery, any chance he''s trying to fake you out so he can surprise you?

Viz, yay to a good u/s!

My boss is in the office today (usually not here on Fridays) so I have to wait for him to leave before I can take my Friday pic. He scolded me today for how messy my office is. He was totally nice about it, but basically told me I needed to make myself look more organized. He definitely had a point (I''m a very messy person) so I cleaned up a bit. It made my office look way better, lol.

thanks for the nice comments ladies!!

Courtney - You look soooo cute!! I can''t believe you''re 34 weeks already!! You look great!

I meant to comment on the bloat issue yesterday, I felt like i was showing soooooooooo much in the 1st trimester...I just felt uncomfortable in my clothes and I''m pretty sure started wearing maternity pants at around 15 weeks or so, maybe sooner. The funny part is, if i look back at those early pics my stomach still looked flat!! But I remember feeling soooooooo huge! What I wouldn''t give to look like that again
9.gif

Similar to Robbie and Mela, once I got to be around 12 weeks I felt like all the bloat went away. Actually I remember thinking I didn''t ''feel'' pregnant anymore and was worried. So don''t worry if at the end of the 1st tri you suddenly feel your old self again...then the belly will really start growing!!

Sabine/Robbie- I'm glad the Rec. center worked out! LOL at yesterday when Robbie thought I meant yay for your shower-puke! Though when you think about it, that's probably one of the best places to be (though puking isn't fun anywhere). It's very cool that the two of you get to experience pregnancy together.
1.gif

cdt- You look adorable and still oh-so-tiny.

vizsla- Yay for hearing the heartbeat! Congrats, gal!

Courtney- You also look fabulous and tiny! And I love that closet! Our nursery closet is big but blank, and I'm thinking some shelves might really help organize things.

I asked DH to take a photo of me for belly pic Friday, but now I'm feeling a little insecure- at 24w1d, I'm bigger than the two ladies who've already shared that are ahead of me! Oh well, everyone shows differently, right?
32.gif
9.gif
Pic to come soon.

Courtney-You are so adorable I can't stand it!!! You are seriously all belly!

EBree-That pic better come
27.gif

Robbie-Doubt it. He's not that creative. It really is a waste of money when you think of it as just a concert...but it's Marc
39.gif
.

Peony-Cranberry juice or orange juice. At my ex-friend's bachelorette party, I had "cranberry vodka" all night. It was really just cranberry juice. If you're worried about someone ordering for you I would just tell the bartender and they'll hook you up. They like that kind of stuff, makes their evening interesting. I remember at one point our bartender brought out a shot for everyone and looked over at me and winked. It was just a shot of cranberry juice. And then he laughed when he saw my fake "oh man that was strong" face.

I don't have a photo to share because I look exactly the same as last week. I have also decided that I can no longer get my dessert at the same time as getting my lunch. I'm staring at my lunch thinking how badly I really just want to have my frozen yogurt.

So I'm adding a few days to my week count. I was going based off of my first u/s where the baby was 7w2d. However, at the second u/s she was measuring 2 days ahead and at the last one 4 days behind so I'm just going to go based off of LMP which puts me at 23w4d (instead of 23w6d...not that much of a difference).

Oh and I was on "the other site" and realized that December due dates are right around the corner
6.gif
. That's insane! NF's boys will be a year old by then!

Ebree, I feel like I''m bigger than them too, so don''t let that stop you from posting!
