Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

Congratulations, Mandarine! Welcome to team BLUE!

I think we''re on to something with these avocado cravings....

Mandarine, the 1300 cal thing is on the top of page 73 in the chart (3500 cals vs. 2200 cals for nonpregnant women).

I like your name choices! I think I like Diego and Mateo the best (but it might be too matchy with the O endings). Don''t forget about nicknames. For example, I like Nicholas but Nick not as much.

Thanks!!!

Peony - That''s why I don''t like Thomas or Nicholas...because I don''t like Tom or Nick!

If DH didn''t have a say I will probably name them Matias and Diego...but DH doesn''t like either one one bit
7.gif

Congrats Mandarine....you will still be queen of the house but you can't complain about leaving the toilet seat up because you'll be outnumbered...queen or not!
face1.gif

And I like the name Marcos out of all the names there. It sounds good in both Spanish and English.

Edited to add.....sorry I forgot we needed TWO boy names. The names you chose don't sound too matchy ........ I know someone who named her twin girls Christine and Christina...
33.gif

I think that you should try using the names outloud (and maybe rotating them). He might get more used to them if he hears them a lot. DH has been using his favored girl name for about 2 years and now I can''t think of a potential daughter as anything else.

Mandarine - Do you like Nico as a nickname for Nicholas?? My Dh''s nephew is Nicholas, but is called Nico from time to time...my DH is Peruvian and I LOVE the way Nicholas sounds in spanish
30.gif

I don''t love Nico...but I do like how Nicholas is in Spanish!...same for Thomas, just not in English
14.gif

I told DH we could each pick a name, but he didn''t like that option!

My favorites are Lucas and Mateo. They aren't matchy-matchy but I like that they're the same length.

ETA: I really like the way Lucas Allan sounds!

OMG that''s just not right! Poor girls!!!

I don''t want them to be matchy, but both with a spanish flare (or at least that both names have a spanish counter-part).

I love that combo too

CONGRATS MANDARINE!!! Oh the fun twin boys will bring! I love, love, love Mateo too.

Anchor, I''m 6wks, just behind you. I''ve been super tired and pretty nauseous lately. I can also tell when I don''t drink enough water, cuz I get all bloated the next day. Looks like you, me and Circe will all be pretty close.

EBree, cravings... well, a few days before my bfp and for about a week and a half after I wanted pizza everyday. I don''t usually eat it, so when we found out I was preggo, DH and I laughed that it must be the baby''s fault! Now I''m pretty much living on fruit, toast and plain ol'' noodles
7.gif

Mela, LOTS of wishes for Himer to make an entrance on your Bday!

Mandarine- YAY for TEAM BLUE!!! I was actually just about to post and change my vote to at least purple, because I am now convinced about our little avocado theory. How exciting!!!! I want a little girl too someday, but I think little boys are the coolest, and I can''t imagine having anything else now. Boy names are hard though. I really like: Diego, Lucas, Mateo, Marcus and Alex. I like Alejandro too.

CDT- Any chance your hip pain is from lying down too much? I know when I lie down for too long, my sciatic nerve and my hips start killing me. Can you move around a bit, or is that too painful? All I have to say is you are due for one perfectly behaved baby after this- maybe he''ll come out sleeping through the night!
3.gif
When are you due again?

Pandora- Sorry about your terrible day. Take it easy!!!! Isn''t it always raining in London?
11.gif

Natalina- That''s awesome about your nursery. I can''t do anything until we move in in June, but I am trying to pick paint colors now. Take some pics if you don''t mind sharing! I know, I can''t believe I am 27 weeks either. It''s weird how fast and yet how slow this time goes. On one hand, I feel like I''ve been preggo forever (like when I am STILL not having wine with dinner), but on the other hand I can''t believe it''s only 3 months away. I am sure your doggie forgave you for all the extra treats.

Mela- Ok, as much as I don''t want to you to cross over to the other side yet, I will be sending you all of my labor dust for tomorrow! If you don''t have Romeluna by tomorrow, I''ll try to bust out a name list for you to help me with to take your mind off of it.

Dreamer- Love your new avatar!

Holy moly, gorgeous pic! Is that your upgrade?

Circe- Don''t worry about your weight gain AT ALL, ESPECIALLY in your first trimester. You just need to get through these weeks as best you can, and if eating helps, then do it!!!! I didn''t even weigh myself unless the doctor did it and it so doesn''t matter. Everyone is so different and at the end of the day, if you eat relatively healthy and don''t overdo it, you will stay within the recommended weight gain. It''s really hard to let go, but your body is going to do what it needs to do to cook a healthy baby and you''ve got to let it do it. For example, my 2 BFF and I are all preggo right now and we all gained so differently, but at the end I bet we all gained around the same amount. I didn''t gain any in the first tri, but by now I am caught up to where I should be. My BFF gained a bunch in the first tri, but not a lot in the second. And we are all carrying totally differently. Only advice I have is if you can manage it, keep working out. Not heavily, and don''t overdo it, but I have continued to do pilates and weight train and it really helps me feel strong and keep the pains from getting too bad.

I had my GD test today, which wasn''t as bad as I thought it would be. I don''t really like sweet drinks, but this wasn''t bad at all. Drank it, went upstairs to my regular OB appointment, then back down for blood drawn. Worst part was not eating at all this morning.

Oh, and Ebree and others, I asked my doc why some recommend to fast and others don''t. She said she isn''t sure, but the reason that she tells people to fast is because where I live there is a huge Hispanic population and so most doctors in my city follow the guidelines for Hispanic women. Don''t ask me what in the world that means. But she did say that if you don''t fast, there are higher numbers of false positives. So if you fail the first one and you didn''t fast, you can do the 1 hour again but this time fast, or just go straight to the 3 hour. So I guess fasting just reduces the chance of a false positive? Not sure, but that''s what she said.

Mandarine, congrats! Your husband was right!

Circe, I''ve read all those same things about hardly gaining weight in the first trimester, but everyone is different. I gained 7 pounds by week 9.5, then I only gained 4 more up to week 16. I was ravenously hungry at first too. My BMI was below 20 and I think my body just wanted more body fat to get baby and me through the whole process. I always thought I''d be one of those women who ate super healthily all the time while pregnant and only gained weight in the belly, but I didn''t know I would be SUPER HUNGRY! I don''t think starving myself is a good plan so I''m just going with it.

When MS hit, all I wanted was greasy, fatty food and mashed potatoes and the thought of veggies made me want to . . . . So MS just made me gain more! I just don''t believe that my body is completely confused about what I need to eat. So I eat the cheese, then sneak in a banana, then eat something I crave again. This baby really seems to love potato chips and hot dogs (two foods I NEVER eat)!

The frustrating thing is seeing changes in your body and thinking everyone must think you''re just letting yourself go since they don''t know you''re pregnant yet. But really people don''t notice. I''ll be 17 weeks tomorrow; I''ve gained at least 12 pounds by now, I''m wearing pants one to two sizes bigger AND unbuttoned, and I have a belly bump that prohibits me from sleeping on my belly. And yet today a bunch of people told me they couldn''t tell I was pregnant. Other people don''t scrutinize you the way you think they do.

Yay Madarine! I''m thinking I''m doing pretty well with the guesses- I totally got Blen right, too! I wonder if that counts for my own baby as well, who I am sure is a boy!

This is a quickie drive-by, good to see you around, Sunkist! I also had the tooth-brushing gagging, which made me throw up every freaking time I gagged, it wasn''t even the toothpaste, it was just the brushing!I also get/got (it''s fading) the hungry queasies. Not fun!

Howdy to everyone else!!

China - defintely possible....i had absolutely no pain in my back or hips until bedrest thing...and i do notice when i do some deep stretching it alleviates the pain....problem is, if i do too much activity (even walking) it aggrevates the stent situation and causing more bleeding which freaks me out...so it''s a no win situation for me...hehhee...I''m due June 18th.

whoo hoo congrats mandy!
i'm so jealous.. i'm about 16.5 weeks and still have 4 more to go before we find out.
and i didn't post my guess but i *knew* it was going to be 2 boys. i don't know what it is but i have a sick sense for guessing gender... in fact... (you are all probably going to think i'm lying) but i've never been wrong. with any of my friends, acquaintance, etc. it's really quite odd. funny thing is i have no feeling either way about myself. i know what i *hope* it is, but i don't have the feeling.. what would freud say about that :) tee hee.

hello to everyone!

nothing much to report.. buying a family truckster this weekend
7.gif
the official end to my free wheeling days.. this car thing has been such a metaphor for my wack-a-doo emotions lately. like my 2 door fun car is my life right now, and the 4 door practical wagon is my future... sometimes i shudder, then feel like crying.

wanna see the new ride?
tee hee

Circe and Sha - Thank you so much for replying! The nausea kicked in last Friday, so week 6; hopefully it won''t progress to m/s. I have a prescription for Diclectin, though, so if it gets any worse I''ll pick some up. Good thing I don''t have to wait for my first appointment at 11 weeks. I don''t seem to be gaining any weight for now, but I honestly have never eaten so much in my life. I''m mostly attracted to healthy food, thank God. I raided the fruit and veggies drawer of our fridge, I had to get DH to get some more today. And eggs. Poached eggs. I could eat them every morning! And I could sleep all day.
24.gif

I hope we''ll all feel better soon!

Okay, we just listened to the babies on a friend''s home doppler, so they are okay. But my uterus is hurting. Not crampy or like contractions, but it feels sore (esp when I walk around). Does that mean that it''s expanding? I hope that''s the reason! Has anyone experienced this? I''m 13 weeks today. Thanks!

I just wanted to pop in real quick and say congrats to Mandarine on twin boys! My DH is an identical twin, and he thinks being a twin is the greatest thing ever. He says you grow up with an instant best friend.

Man, we are really on a boy streak right now!

Almost 21 weeks here, and still not feeling any movement. When did everyone else start to feel the baby kicking? It is making me really anxious.

Congratulations Mandarine!!! YAY team BLUE!!!

ps- I LOVE Lucas & Mateo!!!!!

Quick post here, but have you thought of getting a TENS machine? It might really help with the sciatica especially if you can''t do much exercise. It is pretty good for working a few muscles without you having to move...

I don''t find it an effective form of pain-relief in the way that meds are, but it has definitely been wonderful for me at times when things have been really tough.

Some things will tell you it''s not safe when you are pregnant - I had a long discussion with my pain consultant about it and he produced a load of evidence that it is completely safe in pregnancy. I''ve used mine throughout...

Yes it is! I had a different one briefly, which is the blinding one that Mandarine referred to, but this one was too cute to pass up! I posted a couple other cute baby shots in my SMTR thread.

Mandarine Congrats on team blue! Like Neat I love having a son... momma''s boys are great
2.gif

Congrats on two boys!!!

Peony--I had minor cramping also at exactly 13 weeks. I hear it''s normal.

I''m 14 weeks tomorrow! I''m so excited---I can''t wait til I can find out the sex also.

Peony, my uterus feels sore every few days or so. Maybe ours aren't as stretchy as some women's?

Vizla, I know, I was a little jealous of Mandarine finding out so early too! We find out what we're having on June 3 just shy of 20 weeks.

Amber, oooh, what do you think I'm having? Here are the factors that may or may not give us clues:
*didn't BD until day of O
*baby's heart rate was 169 at 9.5 weeks, 144 at 12, in the 150s at 16
*had MS bad enough that I took Zofran every day for about 6 weeks
*have been craving salty foods (yum, potato chips!)

I think all, or almost all, signs point to boy, but I'm secretly pulling for a girl!

I got my mini snoogle in the mail today. I'm excited to try it out; I've only been avoiding sleeping on my back for a week and I am so sick of it! I've been using a couch pillow for between my legs but I think this will support me better. And yay!, I was just going to complain that the cover wasn't removable, but when I looked at it again I figured out that it is! I told DH that I was going to need to order a cover, and he seemed to think this was silly, but I was adamant that there was no way I was going to sleep with a pillow wrapped around my body for 5 months and not wash it!

Speaking of avoiding your back, the nurse said it was ok for me to keep exercising as long as I wasn't flat on my back, so I have been using an incline bench for all the back stuff on my workout videos. Do you guys think that's ok? Some stuff doesn't really translate well -- like trying to do a lower ab crunch when gravity is pulling you off the incline -- but I'm glad to still be able to do pec flies, etc. I am avoiding stuff like plyometrics more than simple weight training because I feel sorry for the baby when I bounce around too much and then there's an increased risk of falling.

What about running? Is anybody a runner? Due to having strep, then getting pregnant, then being nauseated, then getting better, then getting a cold again, etc., I have not run consistently since I got pregnant. Before I was running 3+ miles two or more times a week. Now I'm running 1/2 to 2/3 of a mile plus walking 2 or 3 miles once or twice a week. I have been more consistent with my Firm videos than with running/walking. What's the consensus? Because when I'm jogging I'm just imagining my little bean getting sloshed around in there, and I start to worry about my heart rate and heat stroke (not that it's that hot yet, but I become an inferno when I run . . . a regular occurrence is for me to be wearing shorts and a teeshirt while everyone else is wearing layers and gloves and hats! And these are the other runners I'm talking about!). I figure that evolution wise, we had to be able to run away from predators without it affecting our babies in utero, but it just seems very jarring. But then I know this marathon runner who "only" ran 8 miles at a time when she went running and her baby was fine. Any advice?

Phoenix, I''m going to go ahead and say girl!

At 12 weeks, my little guy had the hb of 168! I just got a body pillow and finally woke up with no back pain. I''m usually really good about sleeping on my left side, because I''ve always slept that way, but it sucks to wake up with my whole left leg asleep.

Okay, gotta head to home depot- we''re looking at paint!

Hey ladies!

Thanks for the kind words about the anxiety and stuffs! The weird thing about my anxiety is that it isn't really related to the health of the kid. I mean, it is, but we've done genetic testing, had the big U/S, had AFP tests and I'm feeling him move every day - I worry that he's healthy and stuff. However, my anxiety tends to be about other things - related to my ability to be a good mom, the future, the economy, what I want to do with my life, blah blah blah. It is rather irrational but can be pretty nasty. I had issues with anxiety before I got prego, but nothing this bad EVER. I'm hoping I return to my slightly anxious self again after I have the kid!

Mandarine - Congrats! Had I known you were craving avocado, I'd have guessed team blue! hehee. but CONGRATS!

CC - Hiya!! I am feeling the kid move - definitely feeling kicks and stuff. It is by FAR the best part of being prego. By far! And not that I admit it too often, a part of me misses being a lawyer. A little bit. I miss the intellectual side of things. And I'm utterly confounded about what I want to do with my life. Admittedly, I figure I'll spend the next year focusing on le kid, but after that, who knows? I've been thinking about going back to school - but who the heck knows! Any idea about what your next career move might be?

Natalina - Yup, we've got a boy baking away. And kicking away too! I think there is something to the avocado craving and boys...so I'm guessing you are having a boy! I was eating so much of it my friend joked that the kid was going to come out green! I love love love it. I miss sushi, but I find that eating avocado sushi totally scratches the sushi itch with no raw fish at all! Also, I got prego with PLENTY of extra padding...and due to anxiety and nausea, I'm still down about 10 pounds from my pre-prego weight and my docs aren't upset at all. So I totally wouldn't worry about not gaining weight.

Tavo - The whole doppler thing is interesting. We opted not get one - I figured that the stress that might come from not finding or hearing the HB because we didn't know what we were doing was worse than hoping that all was okay between appointments. And I actually started feeling some movement around week 17 (verrrry little), but that was a huge relief!

CDT - My friend always tells me tough pregnancy equals easy labor! So your labor better be a dream! I'm just so sorry to hear about what you are going through. Ugh.

DD - LOVE THE BLING! Lovely lovely lovely!!!!!

Ebree - Yay for sleep! Here to hoping you get another good night tonight!!

Mela - Happy Birthday! And I hope it is a double Bday for you!

Pandora - Take it a little easy girl!

Phoenix - FWIW, I asked my doc about the whole laying on the back thing and she pretty much said not worry about it. If you get uncomfortable or distressed, your body will let you know. So I can't imagine that laying on your back to do some exercise would be an issue. But that's just what my practice group said...

NAME HELP PLEASE - Okay...Dh and I are utterly confuzzled. I am currently in LOVE with the name Caden. DH doesn't love it, mainly because he's foreign and the name doesn't really transfer to his native language very well - he's worried about his family being able to say it...which is silly, BUT I need your HONEST thoughts on it. Do you like it? It sounds great with our last name, but DH and I generally love the more classic names...the other contender right now is Abraham, with Brahm as the nickname. I don't know if Caden is too trendy. I would hate if it became this year's Madison (or even worse, Madisyn) so yeah...HELP LADIES!

Everyone else - HELLO!
35.gif
35.gif

ETA SoCal - I wouldn't worry about not feeling movement. I think it happens for everyone at different times. You might have an anterior placenta which often makes it harder to feel stuff. And I know that for a lot of first time mom's, it takes even longer! Just my .02!

M- congrats x2! So happy...I can tell u ...looking into ur sons eyes and little manly face :) is amazing! Yay for blue!

Mandarine - congrats on team blue!! I like Lucas. And what about Oscar? I think that is cute!

Amber it always sounds like we have the same syptoms :) Glad to share this pregnancy with you!

Peony glad the babes are doing well. When do you get to find out sexes? Or I forget if you''re going to have it be a surprise. Sometime my uterus feel achey. Especially when I''m bloated. Then I feel it more. I hope you''re just streching out
2.gif

Thanks ladies for all the comments on eating throughout pregnancy. I''m just going with the flow I guess!

Hi Anchor! :)

Lysser I really like the sound of Caden, but I''ve been in the "too trendy" camp on that one. I do have a nephew named Caden and I think it''s cute. What about just Cade or Kade? Brahm has always been on my sisters list and I think it''s a cute name too! Short for Abraham would be very cool.

Vizla, love the new ride! hahaha!
