Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

KATE, Good to see you!! I''ve been thinking about you! I''m glad that you''re trying IVF, and I have my fingers and toes crossed for you. I really do think that your two previous pregnacies bode well for IVF success, even with the miscarriages.

Ebree, it would be great if you could look it up in the book, thanks so much. Is that a useful book to have? I''ve heard other people mention it.

Neatfreak, which bouncy seats did you get? It''s overwhelming to see all of the options!

Mela, good luck with everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know you will be holding himer in no time!

you ladies are so funny. DH and i love the princess bride too!! and we were watching it about 2 weeks ago - when we both just looked at each other and i said "hmmm i think i like the name wesley" with DH replying "yeah, it's not bad.. but you can't call him wezzzley - like they do in the movie - you have to call him wesley like mr. belvedere." (did i totally date myself with that reference?)
the other bonus is that i know no one with that name!
second question.. my DH middle name is his mother's maiden name.. a name that ends in -y (like roadway)... which DH would like to use.. but *i* would really like his (assuming it's a boy:) middle name to be joseph after my grandfather.. do you see any weirdness with the double y ending names.
wesley roadway - hahahahahaha - what if that really was the name? tee hee.
wesley joseph
our last name flows nicely with both.

not that i have much in the way of the co-sleeper discussions.. but we were just going to use a pack and play (the type that comes with a mattress/changing table) in our room until baby is older/too noisy. anyone think this is crazy??

I think it''s a great book to have, especially if you can find it used. I think they''ve just come out with a new one, but mine is the second newest, I think- 7th edition.

Here''s what it says about Graco under cribs:

New this year, Bonavita* has licensed the Graco name and is selling cribs, gliders, cradles and dressers under that moniker in Target and Wal-Mart. A Bonavita-made Graco convertible crib sells at Target and Wal-Mart for $160-$170- a good deal. Of course, these are bare-bones models with exposed rail-release hardware (but still a great deal for the dollar).

*Bonavita gets an A- rating

You might want to check to make sure this rating is still good by peeking in the newest copy, if you don''t plan to buy it. I think it''s a good investment, though. I''ve referred to it for all of our major purchases so far.

We''re back from our bi-weekly ultrasound, babes are doing great!!

They weigh 6oz and 7oz, which is bigger than the average 17 week (4.94 oz!)...so I''m happy!. Nice strong heart beats and Baby B (my little Bear) was doing all kind of lovely things...saying hello, mooning us, showing us his little tiny feet!...so cute!. Baby A (I can''t think of a cute nickname for him yet and it has to start with an A
2.gif
!!) He was being shy today and taking a nappy
24.gif

We got reassurance that we''re on team blue (they both decided to show-off!) so no doubt what they are!

Will take a few pictures and post them later!

vizsla,

I love Wesley Joseph. What a great name! Our baby is getting his middle name from *my* side of the family, and I told DH it''s only fair since he''ll be getting *his* last name, you know? If you''re planning on having another, tell him you can save Roadway (
2.gif
) for kiddo #2.

I don''t think it''s crazy at all to use a pack ''n play for the first few months. I hear a lot of parents do this. I believe Tacori (with Tessa) is one of them, actually!

I know I was asking about cosleepers just a few pages ago, but I''ve decided that I''m just going to use the Travel Lite Pack and Play. We had one for my daughter, even though she never slept in it. However, our babysitter was able to use it as a playpen for my daughter at her house. In that way, we got our money''s worth for the yard, which was under $100.

I''m going to go ahead and do the same for the baby with the intent of actually putting him in it until he gets in the crib. Then, when I go back to work, or he outgrows it, I''ll most likely give it to the babysitter for use as a playpen.

Now I just have to get my tired butt up to find one that I like and buy it.

4 days left!

So I wrote a really long post and PS ate it for lunch

Mela-Yay for losing your MP! I think your body will do its thing before having to be induced.

China-Be careful with those stairs girl!

Viz-Baby bargains suggests either buying a PNP and skipping the bassinet or buying the bassinet and skipping the PNP (unless you travel). It also mentions that babies can''t tell the difference between napping and night-night time so whether you but him/her in the PNP or cosleeper it won''t make a diff. I''m getting both because of the travel thing.

What else did I write...I''ll have to remember

OH Yeah I was going to ask the 3rd tri girls, when is your OB/midwife starting internals? My OB wants to start at 36 weeks and then every week after
23.gif
. That seems too early to me.

Mela hurray for the MP!! I''m here cheering your bod on!! Go, go, go!

qt congrats to you on pregnancy #2
9.gif
Sooo exciting!!

Viszla I love Wesley and Wes. Not too trendy at all, in my opinion. But very classic.

Peony I haven''t seen your belly pic for a while. Your little tummy is so cute! Congrats to hubby :)

Amber I started being more nauseous just a week or so ago too! But then miraculously on Monday of this week I started feeling better. I still have a little bit of a hard time eating dinner, but during the day I''m not feeling so sick when the hunger strikes. So I''m hope you get to feeling a little better real soon here too.

I just had my 3rd dr. appt this morning. We heard the heartbeat for the second time. All is well! We get to schedule our ultrasound for around week 19, so in 4 weeks we''ll know what we''re having!!! Yay!!!!!!!

Thanks for all the support girls! Keep rooting for us. We need it.

Fiery - 36 weeks seems early to me too. My middie doesn''t even do internals until 40 weeks (but I begged her to do one for me at 38 weeks because I was sure I was having a Mother''s Day baby). BIG EYE ROLL.

They just let nature do its thing. No internal exam can predict nature, right?

(going back to drumming my fingers now...)

V- I like Wesley Joseph too. But then again, it''s hard to say without knowing the other name. I don''t generally mind 2 names ending in y.

Fiery- No idea when my OB will start internals. She is pretty laid back, so she doesn''t really bring things up until the appointment before. I will ask when I go next week. 36 sounds early to me, but then again, what do I know!

Mela- It does make me feel better to know that you fell too and have a huge bruise, thanks.
11.gif
Just kidding! You be careful too!!!!!

We aren''t using a co-sleeper. We have a Moses basket and a crib, and we will also probably get the PNP with bassinet. We will be in a 2-story house, so we will definitely need something besides the crib at first. I mentioned to one of my mommy friends that some moms here moved their kids pretty early to the crib b/c the babies were so loud. She suggested I just roll him into my big closet in the Moses basket! Thought that sounded funny, but why not? It''s a huge walk-in and it''s right near our bedroom. Just sounded funny to me.

aww, you''re so sweet Fiery! The babies look tight in there! lol

Go Mela, go!!!!!!!!!!!!! what did I vote again? I think I voted girl...so come on Luna

Sunkist:

Did you have a NT? Or are you doing Quad screen? I think you''re a few years younger than I am (I''m 29, will turn 30 a few weeks before baby is born), but we chose to do it because I''m a hypochondriac. Even though our NT results came back perfect, I''m still super paranoid about something being wrong. Heck, I still have a hard time believing there is even a little bit in there already!

thanks ebree!
i always kinda thought we''d use ''roadway'' on the second... since DH is the second.. plus i think it could be cute if we had a girl the second time around. when i mentioned that i wanted to use joseph in lieu of ''roadway'' DH looked oh so sad. but i like the "he''ll have your last name" argument!

I may just decline the internal but I have a problem telling doctors "no" for some reason.

Also another question...any of you ladies starting your...um...perineal massage? Have we talked about this already? I can''t remember.

It''s a question that I had for my OB and totally forgot to ask her. I''ve heard pros and cons about the massage. Some women rave and said it helped with delivery. Others say that it resulted in small tears that were worse during labor and didn''t do much to help. What do you all think?

The first internal I had was at the hospital after my waters broke - they only used a speculum as they don''t want anything in ''there'' because of possible infection.

The second was after I finally got a bed and was in the delivery room to check how dilated I was - or rather wasn''t - and the midwife did a sweep at that time to try and get things going a bit faster.

I would think 36 weeks is a bit early. Also, what can you really tell? I was having full-on contractions that were scoring very high on the CTG and wasn''t dilated at all even after over 30 hours. Other people can walk around for weeks at 3cm...

I'm travelling tomorrow and missing BPF!...so here is my contribution!!!!!!!!!!

ETA: Sorry for the common clothing items...I guess when nothing fits you your options are limited!!! lol

Fiery- I know, somehow drs have a way of making you feel stupid if you question what they recommend. I don''t think most of them mean to, but you know, they''ve probably heard it all and just think they''ve figured out what works best. I really wish I had taken the labor class BEFORE I picked my dr, actually, even though that''s way too early. But I learned a ton of stuff that I wish I had asked my dr before. Now I''m kinda stuck if we have differing opinions.
7.gif
Luckily, I really like her so I''m not too worried. But she is definitely in the why would you want a doula, why wouldn''t you just get an epidural camp, and I''m more questioning than that.

As for the massage- I have not done it, not sure that I will. The doula that taught our labor class said that it doesn''t really do any good before labor starts, but it doesn''t do any harm if you want to. The nurses will do it for you during labor. I am sure people have differing opinions though. I think Mela and Blen did it??

Vis- Love the name Wesley as well, and I think it would be really cool if you used Joseph for this one and "roadway" for the next!

Fiery, I think you''re still early enough that an internal won''t really be of much worth. But I get not wanting to tell docs no thing.

As for the perineal massage...okay, so I''ve heard the term. But no one has told me I should be doing them yet. What exactly are they (I think I get the general idea, but specifically please if you will)? Who told you to do them?

Mela, yay for having a plan! It CAN''T be much longer now!

cdt, yay too for you having the end in sight! You have been such a trooper!

Nothing really new for me other than that school and packing are insane...trying to keep my head on straight.

I didn''t do it - there''s conflicting info on whether it does any good, basically what you said about microtears, so I just decided that it was easier not to. And while I had some tearing, it was nothing that required stitches and it healed really quickly.

Viszla - love love love Wesley Joseph. And the Princess Bride is a great association. We did the same thing with DH getting the last name, me getting the middle name. So it makes total sense to me.
2.gif

I really wanted the Phil and Ted but the handles weren''t long enough for me.
7.gif

Mandarine- cute belly!
Is the SnugRide the larger of the two Graco seats? If it is, we were going to get it but then it didn''t fit in my car (Toyota Matrix) when we tried it.

Fiery - I think I started getting internals at 36 weeks. My midwife only does them before 41? 42? weeks if asked or if there''s a particular reason, and I was just curious. It doesn''t really mean too much about when you''re going to go into labor though. Do you have a doula for birth? If you have problems saying "no" to doctors I''d really recommend one. I was so glad that I had my m/w (who also works as a doula) in the hospital with me with the scary 28 week bleeding, because she kept telling me that it looked like I still had questions and did I want to ask them to the doctor, and other things like that. Or maybe if the doctor proposes something that you''re not sure about, they can help you ask the right questions and ask for time to think about it (assuming that it''s a non-emergency thing!)

Mela - here''s hoping bebe makes hiser appearance SOON!! I hope that everthing goes well on Sat, or preferably sooner.
1.gif

peri massage - we "tried" to, but DH got all squeemish and we compromised by DTD instead
20.gif
. lol. I figured some action in that region is better than none.
My middie will do them for me in labour...and I''ve read that unless you do them everyday for 15 mins (or until it burns) then there is no real benefit. It''s kind of the same as training for a marathon. If you train regularly, you"ll reap benefits...if you train once before the race - not so much!
2.gif

oh, BTW, stiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiil pregnant.

Sabine-No one has told me to do them but I''ve been reading up on it. Mela posted a site not too long ago on natural birth and I remember reading on one of the entries that the mom felt the peri massages really helped her in terms of stretching so I was curious about it.

From what I read, you''re supposed to use some sort of lubricant and massage inside of the vaginal walls (with your thumbs I believe) going down towards the rectum. It''s supposed to help with stretching and supposedly reduces the amount of tearing. But while I have heard pros about it (such as what I mentioned above) I''ve also heard that it really doesn''t do much. I''m going to ask my OB next time how she feels about it.

Blen-I won''t have a doula however one of the nurses at my OB''s practice is a midwife. I''ve spoken with her several times and she has told me that if I want her to be there on the day, she can. I have an appointment scheduled with her as well to see if it''s something that I really want. I would have said yes on the spot but she recommended we sit down and meet. The idea of having someone there than can coach me through (besides Mr. Fiery''s You can Do it cheer) is really, really appealing.

Mela-We need to do a when will himer appear poll or is that too mean

mandarine just wanted to say that you are super cute with your tiny belly at 17 weeks!!

RE internal: i had one done starting at 36 weeks. it is super misleading, i think. i was 1 cm dilated at 36 weeks, and thought that was great news!! then it turned out i would be 1 cm for the next 3.5 weeks! haha. but after the last internal, i gave birth the next day.

Mela--i am predicting you go into labor tomorrow night--don''t know why, just ''the vibe''
5.gif
Seriously, go make some chocolate chip cookies and then put your feet up and get DH to massage them (that''s supposed to induce labor--but even if it doesn''t it''s a nice gesture)

Amber---I get the dead hip thing also when I wake up in the morning. It hasn''t happened in a while but it was quite common about 3 weeks ago.

I''m 16 weeks today! I go in for some blood work tomorrow (Down''s Screening).

I get married in less than two weeks!! It''s so stressful right.

Morning sickness is still around but it''s gotten better the last two days, so I''m hopeful that it will be gone completely very soon.

Amber - No I didn''t do a NT or a Quad screen. I''m 28. The doctor didn''t require and I opted not to. I too can hardly believe there is something in there. Hearing the heartbeat is so wierd, and so far that''s all my "proof". I just think of this little alien inside of me! Soooo wierd!

Just checking in...my prediction is still the same..a boy..June 1st! I''ll be celebrating my June 1st baby''s, 14th Birthday this weekend. WOW..time flies, and I''m far too young to have a 14 year old! *wink*. Best wishes to you this weekend Mela lu!

Just checking in to see if there''s any news- hmmmm...can''t imagine what we all might be watching for! Thinking of you, little Himer and mama!

Things I forgot to post in my last post...Mandarine, you are adorable! I love watching bellies progress!

And thanks to all who complimented my shoes that I wore to the shower! They are my all time favorite shoes, and guess what, they are from WALMART! They are from a few years ago, but every year I check at least once to see if they have them again ''cause I really wish I got them in black too. They are still comfy because the wedge is not very different than wearing flats, and they hid my swollen tootsies pretty well. I''ve been swelling in my feet almost daily now (I think the drive to pittsburgh started it) which stinks, but my ankles luckily haven''t been too bad.

C''mon, more belly pics! I''ve already packed my camera, so I''m out for this week.
