Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

Viz, thanks for that website!!! me luvs it!

Mara

Just wanted to make sure you saw on the last pg where I recommended the Origins A Perfect World body cream for itchy skin - it worked great for me, nothing else did.

I''m voting girl, Qti! I can''t wait to see your u/s!

yes, babycheapskate is fantastic yippeee i''m glad you like it! i like that it lists the diaper and formula deals weekly... should be super helpful in the next couple of months ;)

yes, boys names are hard!!! i want a strong, non-trendy name.

i''ve liked wesley for so long, but then some website said it was the masculine form of ashley.. so now all i can think is that we are naming our son ashley - even tho we''d call him wes.

do you think carter is too trendy? DH is worried that it sounds trendy/yuppy. we do have a different middle name we could use with leo - it''s DH''s middle name, and also his mother''s maiden name. it rhymes with ''roadway''. buuuutttttt (gosh, this is so awful to admit) but the reason i don''t want to use it is *because* of my MIL. she already thinks i''m having this baby for her... ugh....

boys names are HARD! mandy, i saw your struggle last weekend.... the reason i didn''t contribute is b/c i''m in no better shape than you... i like something, DH hates it and so on and so on and so on (repeat).

mara! you look great!

hehe Viz. It''s hard when you read something about a name that you previously loved...then that''s all you think about!. Like I love Connor, but then my mom said it sounded like "coño" (which is a "bad" word in Spanish)...so now she messed that name up for me!

I understand what you mean about MIL...I think i would be on the same boat, unfortunately.

I don''t think Carter is TOO trendy, but it''s definitely more trendy than some of your other options.

I like Leo too!

You would think we would have figured out names by now...my family is so sick of me referring to the boys as "A" and "B"....but it''s grown on me! lol

hello ladies! i am on a CRAZY rotation this month so unfort not enought ime to ps as much as i''d like and i feel like i can''t keep up with our little PG ''hood
5.gif

Qti - I''m voting girl also! and love your bump!

mara - your trip sounded awesome. so jealous. spain was on our to do list, but unfort we haven''t made our way over there yet. we did manage to squezze in buenos aires (which i am SO in love with) as our "europe-on-a-budget" compromise
3.gif
. yay for great test results! i hear you on the fatigue business...i would say not as bad as first tri, but i''m def not feeling a "burst" by any means! very cute belly..you are so tiny! oh and itching during pregnancy can be a sign of high bili levels. maybe check it out? vs just dry skin? which mine is soooo dry. i feel like all my fluids are being sucked inside to contribute to my swelling, but my skin is parched. ugh.

mandy - glowing and radiant as usual!

amber - sorry about the back pain..hope things will improve soon!

sapphire - more exciting every day! keep us updated!

viszla - carter joseph''s my fave, then wesley joseph. my friend told me about bps.com too...maybe i should go check it out

So my hours have been RIDICULOUS this month (we''re talking 12+ including sat and sun every other weekend) and i''m exhausted. I''m constantly on my feet and half running. I can in my pre preggo days wear shoes with tiny little 1 inch heels at work w/o too much trouble. Tried that yesterday. Forget it. My feet were throbbing by the end and the swelling was yucko
8.gif

And to top it off, becuase it''s so hard for me to find time to eat, my meals aren''t too regulated and my nausea is starting to rear it''s ugly head again
8.gif
8.gif
. I''ve taken to carrying a little baggie of almonds and sneaking bites between patients. And when my attending isn''t looking
3.gif
I''m sure he''s seen me and thinks I''m rude, but oh well. Haven''t told him I''m PG yet. Haven''t figured out a way to bring that into the convo.

Cute belly pics, everyone! Takes me back (not too long ago, but it sure feels like it!).

viz- I vote Wesley Joseph. I don''t think "Ashley" at all when I look at or say it, even knowing its background. My close second favorite is Miles Joseph.

qtie, I think girl too. Seems like we''ve got a trend going! Thanks for the reassurance about the uterus measurement. I am positive that in the last two weeks my belly has grown because things I could do just a couple of weeks ago, I can''t do as easily now, like go up on my Firm step (my thigh rubs my belly) or shave my bikini area (can''t reach my left side with my right hand). I can just tell my belly is sticking out more.

Mara, DH and I had the same problem with boy names. It was a relief when we found out we were having a girl because we had so many more names that we liked for a girl. For a boy, we had decided on both our father''s names (neither of which I love as a name in itself) because we were just stumped.

Viz, my personal preference is for Wesley over Carter. I wouldn''t let the Ashley thing stop you -- plus, Ashley is the "one that got away" from Scarlet O''Hara in Gone with the Wind and is also a male name . . .

I''m going to try to get my butt upstairs to take a belly pic. I don''t think I''ve done one since 28 weeks.

All the bellies are so cute!

Viz- I love baby cheapskate. Do you do babysteals.com or mambargains.com? They are awesome deal-a-day websites. I have ordered so many things off of babysteals! As for names, my fave is Miles Joseph. I LOVE Miles!!!

ETA: Viz- I know how you feel about finally feeling like you are ready to get the baby out. I decided my wall was the 36-week mark. I am still ok, but just getting markedly slower and more uncomfortable. Sitting, sleeping, walking, just not so comfortable anymore! Still, though, the concept of having a little baby to care for is crazy to me! In a good way...

QT- I really think girl too, but I am usually wrong!

Just had our 36 week check-up. Strep B test and first internal- eek! Strep was piece of cake, internal was not fun, but ok. Doc said I am about 1 cm dialated and my cervix is "50% thinned-out". I think that means 50% effaced? Stay put, little girl, we have a trip to Chicago to look for houses next weekend and then our birthing class the FOLLOWING weekend! Oh, and still no closer to settling on a name! I know I have asked before, but any opinions? Middle name is Lake, last name rhymes with Connor.

In no particular order:
Ellison (Ellie)
Emerson (Emme)
Emery (Emme)
Avery
Kennedy
Reese
Mia

My belly pics didn''t turn out (low light/weird glare), so I''m going to try again, but I got these hand pics in. You know you''re a true PSer when you take hand-pics to document your pregnancy . . .

Anyway, the shot on the left is my regular wedding set. I''m not wearing it these days because it''s tight. I think a lot of women wear rings tighter than that (it really doesn''t look that tight in the picture, does it? It''s just tight enough that I have to work it back and forth a couple of times to get it off, but it''s not really a struggle), but I really don''t like the feeling of a tight ring. So instead of my size 5.25 wedding set, I''m wearing the size 6 set on the right, consisting of my original wedding band and an heirloom ring. Before I was pregnant, they wouldn''t have fit at all since I was really a size 5; now they''re somewhat loose but not in any danger of falling off. I''m just glad I have some room to grow so I can hopefully keep feeling married/wearing bling to the end.

Last night we had dinner with some friends where the wife is 4 days further along than I am, and I kept staring at her ring finger, which looked kind of squished by her rings. I definitely couldn''t deal with that!

handpiccomparison34weeks.JPG

OK, here we go, belly pics from 34 weeks, 1 day, up 39 pounds.

bellypic34weeks91109ps.JPG

Man, it''s been a crazy couple of days.

My brother broke up with his fiance and is trying to figure out how to get rid of the ring---hopefully someone will buy it over on the sites he has it listed at. He also just quit his job and had to move back in with the parents.

My sister is moving out this weekend and heading back to the parents. I sorta feel like the only sibling with her sh*t together--ya know? But then there is a part of me saying, well they both had their stuff together until recently---how soon until the other shoe drops for me? I''ve been really lucky so far this past year. Have a fabulous job, make a great living, great apartment, got married and I''m having a baby. Something bad has to happen, right?

Loving all the belly pictures! Everyone looks so fantastic.

Just got off the phone with the diabetic nutritionist. Just have to go in for some menu samples--she said it was no big deal and not to worry about anything. I think they are taking extra precautions because of the diabetic history in my family also (Nana died from diabetic complications (She also lost her leg), and my father has diabetes as well.

My sister wants me to travel to North Carolina with her at the end of the month (about a 3-4 hour drive from where we live in VA). And then we are supposed to crash at a friends house. I''m thinking I won''t go. I''ll be nearly 34 weeks pregnant and I can barely sleep in my own house right now, I can''t imagine having to sleep at some strangers house. I feel bad not going though, because there is a Pride weekend long event going on and I want my sister to know I support her---I''m worried she might think I''m saying no because I don''t. I''ve told her and she says she understands--but still....

Anyways, I''m at work---so I should probably do some work

Here''s my BPF contribution. Just took this. I am 20w 1d today. I have a pretty good size bump already.
LOVE BPF!! You gals look terrific.

qt, I am guessing girl. You look a lot like I did way back when.

Mara.... Girl you look great. So glad you had a wonderful trip. I bet Portia is soooo happy his Mommy is home.

Mandarine... Now that''s a great pic!!! I can''t wait to meet your boys.

Wow, so many contributions to BPF! You all look great! I guess I''ll post a pic too, being that tomorrow I''m hitting my 30 weeks milestone!!! I can''t believe the big day is only 10 weeks away.

Thanks Kaleigh :) Haha! Oh trust me, I can't believe it's come so fast either. I'm just starting to get uncomfortable I think. I noticed yesterday that my back and ribs were hurting on my drive home. Maybe it's all downhill from here??
3.gif
Overall I think I've been really lucky so far!

And yes, boys names are hard! Husband says we are still undecided. Even though we do still have Graham on the back burner. No idea on middle names yet either!

Natalie a name that popped into my head while reading your list is Amery. I guess it's a cross between Avery and Emerson. Anyways, I know a little girl named Amery. It's different and cute, but you can't use the nicknames you want.

Yeah, I hear ya. Maybe it''s because I had to go back to work at 32 weeks, but the last two weeks have been really hard. Last night DH and I went for a longish (2.4 mile) walk but at a very leisurely pace, and at the end I was done for: feet and back were ick. I''m slowing down and not too happy about it!

qt... hope you come back and tell us what the sex is soon !!

ginger...thanks for the info on the bili, i mentioned it to my dr and she said no harm in testing so i gave blood for that yesterday after my appt. she said it is unlikely given my symptoms are not 'classic' but we might as well test to rule it out.

tdm... yes thanks so much for your recommend on the other page! honestly i am so lazy about buying new things, i probably will just deal with the itching, i havent even gotten into a store to buy cream with cortisone in it. the itching comes and goes, aka one day it's horrible and the next it's bearable. btw so funny but whenever i think of you i always have a hard time not typing in your old screen name. even after all this time.

sunkist girl you are tiny! and so close!!

kaleigh...thanks
5.gif
... yep princess p was ecsatic to have us home, she didnt even give us the 'attitude' that inevitably follows a long absence (aka how dare you leave me)...she was extra cuddly all weekend.

had my 20 week appt yesterday and i love my doctor. my mom and sis came with me, my sis came down from college from SF (1 hour drive) for the appt and i wasn't sure if i would be able to get a peek at the nugget but the doctor said even though typically we wouldn't, she did it for my mom and sis which i was so happy about. their machines in the dr offices are not as good as the ultrasound tech's but some view is better than none. the nugget is so big that he doesn't fit on the little screen anymore..! and he was opening and closing his mouth. his arms and legs are much longer now, he looks huge actually. it's amazing to think he is just only about 7 inches long.

the booooooo part is that we won't get to see him again on screen until about 32 weeks, unless something seems off at a future appt. torture!

hope everyone is enjoying the wkd! oh and natalina i also like avery lake. emme is a pretty name too, i am partial to emily or emilie for girls too.

Mara, the arm chair rockers at Babies R Us run about $350 to $400, so a little above budget, but I got my $300 glider and ottoman from there for $200 because I went when all rockers and gliders were 20% off and used another 10% off coupon, so you can probably do better than the list price.

We were given one of those rockers from a friend, and it was ok, but I find the glider so much more comfortable. You may want to test out what feels the most comfortable before buying online. We would have kept the rocker if it weren''t too big for our small room, but it wasn''t my favorite comfort-wise.

I know there was a bunch I wanted to respond to, but it has been a crazy couple of days, so I need to do a little mini vent first.

As of Thursday, I was 38 weeks. I was supposed to go in for my weekly appointment on Friday. I get a call Thursday at 4:00 that they need to reschedule my appointment for next week. I calll back to tell them that that isn''t going to work, since I already have an appointment for next week, and I really need to come in every week at this point. This is when they tell me that my doctor has torn his ACL, is having surgery, and will not be seeing patients again until December. Great! I know there is nothing I can do about it, but I am still kind of freaked out that I spent the last 9 months building a relationship with this person, and now someone I have never even met will be delivering my baby. Basically whoever is on call at the hospital at the time. A bunch of my friends tell me their doctor didn''t end up delivery their baby either, so I was starting to settle down and accept it.

Then I go in for my appointment yesterday, and I see whoever is filling in for my doctor in the office for now. She decides to do an ultrasound real quick before my internal, and starts getting this really nervous look on her face. She tells me that there is way too much fluid under his head, and that I might as well start planning for a c-section. This comes as a shock to me, since my doctor had never mentioned that, and told me last week his head was already getting into position. I relay that info to her, and she says she''ll do an internal first, and then we will discuss this some more. Well, she does the internal, and sure enough she said she can feel his head just fine, it''s still in -2 position (same as last week). She says she must have just seen my full bladder on the ultrasound, and she takes back her c-section remark. WTF?! Please don''t freak me out until you are sure there is something to freak me out about.

So now I am all concerned. I guess I am still only 1cm and 50% effaced, so I am not going into labor anytime soon. I am just so worried that I will end up being induced, and then will labor for some time, and still end up with a c-section. It''s just hard to know that someone I don''t even know will make a lot of these decisions for me. I mean, this lady almost signed me up for a c-section without even having all the facts!

Okay, vent over. Sorry that was so long and rambling. back to catch up on all I wanted to respond to.

Sorry I didn''t get on here to post the gender yesterday. The baby wasn''t cooperating, so the sex is still up in air. Such a buzz kill. =P On top of that, the printer was not working. So I didn''t get any u/s pics to post. She said she''ll call me when the printer is fixed, and I can go pick up some u/s pics. I am going to call her in a week b/c I want those pics. Damnit. hehe.

puffy
I don''t think you are big at all. You look great.

Burk
Just a teeny tiny bump. Cute.

viz
You are officially at the point where you just want the bugger out. hehe.
You still pretty small for 34 weeks.
It''s funny how different each dr and midwife are on weight gain. My dr always tell me that I need to slow the weight gain if I gain too for the month. So I thought he was going to give me a hard time last week b/c I gained 7lbs in 3 weeks. But he didn''t. He compared my weight to my weight at the same time last pregnancy, and I weighed exactly the same. So he just said not to gain another 7lbs this month.
Can''t wait to see final pics of your nursery.
I like Carter and Wesley. I didn''t know Wesley was the masculine form of Ashley. But MIL and our 5 yrs old nephew have a hard time pronouncing Wesley (name of another nephew), and they end up pronouncing it "Esley" with the "W" sound.

Mara
You barely have a bump. You look great.
You better get on taking belly pics weekly. You need to see them on BPF. hehe.
Probably will be a couple more weeks before you pop.
I also have a hard time with boy names. There''s a few that I love, but DH doesn''t. But we haven''t really work on any names yet.

ginger
Sorry that you have such long work hours. Must be tough. I can barely get through my 8 hrs day.
Definitely snack regularly. It really helps with nauseousness.

natalina
I like Avery best, then Ellison.

phoenix
You are all belly.

sunkist
You look adorable.

so cal girl
Try not to worry too much.

Had to go back a couple of pages to catch up, but here''s what I can think of off the top of my head.

On weight gain: So far I am up 36 lbs at 38 weeks. Have been pretty steady for the past couple of weeks. At the beginning of my pregnancy, my doctor told me he only wanted me to gain 25, since I was a little overweight already, but he has not said anything about me gaining too much. I am now about the exact same weight as my husband, which doesn''t bother me as much as I thought it would.

Vizsla: I''m surprised your doctor mentioned anything to you about your weight at this point. I am about 10 lbs over what I should have gained, and I''ve even pointed it out to the doctor, and he wasn''t concerned. I''ve had friends who have gained 70 lbs with their pregnancies, so I think we aren''t doing too bad! For your names, I like Leo, Wesley, and Samuel. But maybe that''s just because those were in our top 10 list as well
1.gif

Lysser: Great birth story! It''s nice to hear birth stories that are not totally frightening for once
1.gif
Congrats on Calvin. He''s adorable.

Naseau in the 3rd tri: Yes, mine came back. I was a little naseous in the 1st tri, but only threw up once. Have felt bad again for the past month or so. I did some research, and it looks like it might be hormones, although I think the heat wave we have been having is not helping. I feel overheated ALL the time, and that makes me feel even more yucky.

Belly pics: everyone looks great!

QT: I was looking to see if you posted your gender results, but I saw you just posted it is still up in the air. I''m going to guess boy for you, since everyone seems to be having boys lately!

Socal - Honestly I wouldn''t worry to much about ''knowing'' the doctor. I didn''t know which of my 7 possible midwives would be there until she walked through the door, and it was the one I knew least well - but she called the OBs the minute things look a bit off.

The consultant who delivered Daisy I met in the operating theatre when he came in specifically to do the rotational forceps. He came round to formally introduce himself in ICU that evening! He couldn''t have done a better job and spared me having to have a c-section.

In labour you won''t care WHO it is, you just want someone competent...

I don''t get why you guys get so much hassle on the weight gain. I can understand perhaps if you are packing it on in the first trimester, but in the last I was putting on 6 or 7 pounds a week despite only eating around 1500 calories a day - I could have starved myself and the weight gain would have been the same, it was all fluid retention and there isn''t anything you can do about that.

EBree, Tao, Sunkist, Mara, QT: Thanks so much for the name opinions. Sounds like Avery is the most popular here. It''s actually my favorite, and I think DH is coming around. He just really wishes there was a nickname for it. Do many of you know Avery''s IRL? We don''t want anything too popular. The only one we know is my boss''s daughter
37.gif
- trying to convince myself that doesn''t matter...

SoCal- ooof, I''m sorry for the false alarm at the doc''s office. I totally know how you feel. My doc got called out around my 24 week appt and I had to see one of the nurse practitioners and she couldn''t find the heartbeat for like 3 minutes (doc always found it immediately). Then she told me not to worry about it b/c the baby was "only about the size of a walnut". I was like, "umm...I''m 24 weeks, I think she''s a lot bigger than that, isn''t she?" (Thanks to Babycenter I knew she was about 1.4 lbs by then). And she''s like, "nope, just about a walnut". Needless to say, I came home and looked it up (to find out I was right) and have always made sure I never see her again. As for your doc being out for your delievery, that does suck. I just found out that the only chance I have of my doc delivering me is if I go into labor between 9a-5p Tues & Weds or anytime Friday. Not very good chances! Oh well, guess we''ll just have to roll with it! I''ll be hoping you don''t have to have a c-section!

QT: I''m so excited to find out what you''re having! When will you get to take another peek?

Mara- you lucky duck getting to see your little guy again! That was really sweet of your doc. We saw ours at the NT scan at 12 weeks and then at the 20 week scan, but won''t again as long as I keep measuring on track. Bummer- I really want to take a peek!

My best friend's daughter is named Averie.
Her nickname is Ave (rhymes with Dave).
I love that name!

ETA: Avery is gaining in popularity BIG TIME. Just letting you know since you said you didn't want anything too popular.
In the year 2000 it ranked 176th and as of 2008 it's 38th.
They also have "Avery" on all the personalized trinkets you can get at stores now (key chains, mini license plates, etc.).

I love all of the belly pictures! Everybody looks seriously fabulous.

anyone care to do a little name ranking for me? DH and i have had the worst time going back and fourth with names.... he hates what i like, and he doesn''t suggest any.... anyhoo... what are your thoughts on the following.

(in no particular order - and i take no offense to any comments - middle name is Joseph)

Leo
Carter
Wesley
Miles
Samuel (Sam)
Elliott
Charles (Charlie)
Colin
Viz, because you said that you won''t take any offense... My initial reaction was that your list of names is mostly fabulous but I feel like half the people I know are naming their boys Carter and I''m kind of tired of the name. Samuel is also very popular in my area, but it''s such a classic name that it doesn''t strike me the same way. I do seriously love all of the other names on your list and think that they all sound fine with Joseph, so for me it would come down to what sounds best with your last name. And Ashley is historically more of a boys name, so I really wouldn''t let that bother you about Wesley. And FWIW, behindthename.com lists the two names as having different origins.

Natalina, I''m going to go against the grain and put my vote in for Mia!
