I cannot WAIT for hiccups! Seriously, it is the funniest thing ever. Even once they are born, hiccups and sneezes are so cute I just want to cry. Unless it''s bothering the baby...then you just feel bad lol.

My cousin had the hiccups almost perpetually for the first 3 months of her life - she was fine, just prone to it. And she would get SO MAD - she would hiccup, cry for a minute, then once she calmed down, a hiccup would come again and she would cry. I felt so bad!

Hey, quick question. What week do you guys consider to be the start of the 3rd trimester? I have looked online and it varies between week 26 and 28. Thanks!

Twenty-eight weeks into your pregnancy, or 26 weeks after conception.

Gah, I went to double-check myself and typed in "third trimester" - and on the right sidebar got an ad for 3rd trimester abortions! WTF!

I think 27 weeks.

well my Fit Pregnancy update today for 25 weeks said 'congrats on reaching the third trimester'...

technically a tri is 3 months but since pregnancy is 10 months instead of the 9 that everyone thinks about originally (why do they do that anyway, why does everyone think its 9 but it's really 10? just call it 10!)... i figure like 3.3 months for each tri to equal 10, soooo you could assume like 26-27 weeks is 3rd tri.

Steph, I''ve read different things about trimesters, but what I saw most often was:

1st: 1-13
2nd: 14-27
3rd: 28-40+

Mara, if I get around to it I''ll post a pic of my stretch marks. At this point, I''m really like, oh well who cares . . . at least I don''t have cankles! Glass is half full, right?

So, I ran all over tarnation today trying to find pyrex casserole bakeware with plastic tops so I could make some dinners to freeze and heat when I am exhausted with a newborn and my mom has left. Today I made yummy Cooking Light chicken enchiladas. I seriously went to Macy''s, then Williams Sonoma, then Sears, then Target where I finally found where I wanted (DH said to go there first, but I didn''t listen). Then I had to go to two grocery stores to find kielbasa for tonight''s dinner, which I had already tried to get at my regular grocery store and the butcher shop yesterday (the regular store had it but I try to buy nitrate free when possible -- had to buy regular though). Why is being off from work so much work?
1.gif

If there''s no baby tomorrow, I''m going to make another freezer meal. And mop the basement floor, which is concrete. DH mountain bikes and does cyclocross, and his bike room is at the back of the basement, so you can imagine that it gets quite grimy. But DH, being a man, told me that it "looked clean" even though the last mopping was two months ago.

I also bought Claire a little newborn Halloween onesy. The ladies at Macy''s were like, "Oh, you have one on the way and one at home?" And I was like, no, I am just hoping the one in here comes out before Halloween! I mean, seriously, October 31 would be 9 days past my due date. Come on baby!

haha Amber I''m sooo GLAD you have the Juicey Couture portion of Piper''s wardrobe covered!!

heehee! I''m totally sympathizing with you my darling. My house looks like a bomb hit it. I''m in the middle of packing up the house for moving and we are waiting for the bank to call and finalize everything so we know when our moving day is!!! It was supposed to be this Saturday, but now I don''t know if they''ll let us do that if the loan isn''t finalized. If this baby comes early and I''m not even close to being ready, he''s just going to have to be patient with me.

Good luck getting everything done, girlie! Dont'' worry. You''ll be fine

Good morning, ladies! Thinking good thoughts for those of you patiently waiting - I hope those little ones arrive soon!

So I haven''t felt a REAL kick in like three days, and it''s freaking me out. I am pretty sure she is just turned in there so she''s kicking off to my sides where I can''t feel it as well, but it still worries me. I also have yet to gain any freaking weight - I still can wear most of my work pants from pre-pg. It''s like my belly is at a standstill. Bah, baby, GROW!

In other news...it has been raining here for over 12 hours, which NEVER happens in the desert, and I want nothing more than to go run about in it...but I''m pretty sure that would be bad for me now. Nuts!

Still sending L&D vibes to PG and viz... Come on, babies, we want to meet you!

MP - I love running about in the rain (when it''s warm). I enjoy rain, but then again, I''m a freak.
28.gif

30 weeks for me today! It''s a bit of a milestone for me because I was born at 30 weeks. I''m definitely glad to have reached that point with no sign of labour!
36.gif
I''m been eating like crazy since Monday though, I''m hungry all the time...

Steph, JCrow and Mara, thanks for the heads up on the PB stockings, I just ordered some for us. DH and I got ones that say Mom and Dad (so strange!) and we also got one for Olivia. DH is so cute about holidays, he keeps telling me that we really need to do a lot of decorating, etc. this year because now we have kids. Since she''ll be about 4 weeks old at Christmas I don''t think she''s really going to notice, but I don''t want to rain on his parade.

PG and Viz, lots of labor vibes coming your way. I am 36 weeks and I have a feeling the next 4 weeks are going to go by very slowly. At my appt today they did an internal and I am still closed up tight (which is good for 36 weeks). I also got the swine flu shot. I am in PA and apparently they have started distributing it to high risk populations. I am glad I got it, no ill effects so far and its one less thing to worry about.

On the kick counts, my doctor told me what you really want to focus on is whether your baby is moving less than usual because all babies are different. I have an anterior placenta which makes it harder to feel kicks and aside from that, Olivia just doesn''t move that much. It would definitely take me a full hour to get 10 kicks. But that''s normal for her, so according to my doc I have nothing to worry about.

Viz, I am with your DH on the name thing. If we were having a boy, DH really wanted to name him Chase. I like that name a lot, but I wanted his given name to be Charles. I guess i am just old-fashioned about names and like given names to be proper names.

aww november the stockings sound so cute. part of me is a little bummed that our timing is no nugget for xmas because i just love that holiday, and we have to wait another 11 months to celebrate it with him, but on the other hand like my mom says...this is the last one alone for the two of us and we can enjoy it without being sleep deprived etc with a newborn. so glass half full i guess!

mp...i only VERY intermittently felt the baby moving around until around 22 weeks...and hardly at all before week 17/18 ever. it took a very long time for me to feel things regularly...it could have just been his placement but he was def not one of those babies moving across my belly at like 20 weeks like some of my friends have had! and even now at 25 weeks he could not do the kick the remote thing off and i know gingerb said that her baby was doing that like 2 weeks ago and we are the same amt of time along. so don''t worry...i''m sure baby is doing fine! also my belly felt like it was not doing much around 15-20 weeks. at 22 i felt like i ballooned out and since then it''s def growing all the time.

speaking of moving, he has been kind of sluggish the last 2 days so last nite i was trying to listen with my cheapo crappy doppler from target. i thought i heard movement but i still can''t find the hb with it..never have been able to! so i ate some chocolate since i was curious and then sat back down and within 5 min he was thumping away. i was like wow that trick actually works. plus it was fun to just eat chocolate.
3.gif

anchor lol re: eating and being hungry, some days i am a bottomless pit and other days i can barely get 3 meals in. it really just depends it seems!! so i figure on days i am hungry, i better eat eat eat.

i started walking with my mom yesterday for the turkey trot training, we did about a mile and i felt ok, just a little bit of muscle cramping/aching in the bottom. i think the muscles just have to get used to being used again..my couch potato days have made them lax over the last 3 months.

and i think my days of sitting cross legged are slowly coming to an end. it''s just not comfy anymore, so sad.

viz...pg...continuing to send COME OUT vibes.

and pg...yes no cankles is a good thing hehee. good to know target has the ''freezing'' containers because i want to do that too and i prob would have done the same thing you did re: running all over checking out places.

November, I''m jealous that your got the H1N1 shot already. I don''t think they''ve got it anywhere around here. I just had fun calling the doctor''s and saying, "Hi, my due date is tomorrow; do you have any H1N1 vaccines yet?"

MP, I think your babe is too small still for you to need to worry about kick counts. I wouldn''t worry!

Does anyone else watch Deliver Me? I''ve seen like 10 birthing shows in the last three days, and it seems like so many women end up with C/S, especially after inductions. I am leaning away from signing up for an induction at this point, at least until 41 weeks. I''ll see what my doctor says tomorrow, but I really don''t want a C/S because the labor didn''t take. One doctor on Deliver Me has several times told patients that she was right to do the C/S because the baby was really "wedged in there." These aren''t breech babies or gigantic babies, just babies who are supposedly "wedged." I just don''t buy that for all of human history normal sized babies were accidentally getting wedged in the pelvis without remedy; I want someone to try moving me and her around first before getting out the scalpel.

Last night Claire was back to her "party in the uterus" routine throughout the night. She shimmies, she shakes, she kicks, she punches. Maybe she will like doing cardio with me in the basement one day?

Mara, that''s good to know - especially since you are thinner than me to begin with. My husband keeps teasing me that it''s just gas, not really baby
20.gif

I went to my in-laws house last Saturday and they were all fussing over me, asking if I needed water or a chair or an apple slice or ANYTHING. (This was funny, cause at my house I may as well not be pregnant lol.) They gave me a little bit of this vitamin shake made with fresh cherries, and not a minute after I drank it, the baby was going NUTS in there! She was dancing hardcore, and I think she must have rolled over then and that''s why I don''t feel the kicks properly anymore - she''s facing away from my belly button now. My MIL was so excited when I told her that the baby liked her shake lol. I''ve discovered that Dr Pepper and Oreos also make the baby excited, it''s really funny but I almost feel bad - does that mean they are getting a caffiene/sugar rush?

I love that show - I like knowing that even problem pregnancies can work out just fine in the end, and the three doctors are so super nice. (One of them reminds me of my midwife.) I have noticed they end up with C/S a lot, but I think they only do it after the mom has been in labor for AGES.

I''m not sure if anyone saw this article about a pregnant woman who got H1N1 and lost her baby, but it''s stories like this that made me decide to get the H1N1 vaccine. It''s a very individual decision and I''m not trying to push anyone to get it, just wanted to share.

God, how awful. As scared as I am of the vaccine - and there is good reason to be, considering the long-term affects are not known at all - stuff like this freaks me out. But...from what I have seen so far, there is always SOMETHING that put them medically off-balance to begin with - they say she was healthy but that she smoked, so anything to do with the lungs is going to be exacerbated by that fact. The others (that I have seen) all had asthma or allergy issues. There was always something that tipped the factors a bit.

oh that article is so sad... it brought tears to my eyes.

greg has said that if it ever came down to the same decision her husband had to make he would save me...for the same reasons the husband outlined. but wow what a decision to have to make.

but, i am so paranoid about getting sick that if i got anything that resembled a flu for probably even a day i would def go in to be checked. they can check easily for swine and it's worth it. my dr said the shot should be avail for preggos soon through kaiser in n.ca and she also said that while there are risks associated in general with anything like that... she said that the risks on NOT taking it outweigh in her mind any of the ones with taking it.

is anyone else getting it for sure or gotten it? november you might be our first preggo on here?

Nov- "Mom and Dad" stockings! I can''t wait!
30.gif

Mara- I can''t wait to feel the baby moving! What is the remote control thing? Can the baby really kick so hard that it sends things flying off your tummy?!? If so, DH is going to love that.
20.gif

PG- I have never seen that show. Is it all about just the delivery? What channel is it on?

MP- I have been reading the same thing about lots of moms using things to "instigate" the baby, and I have gotten really paraniod about having any caffine at all.

I had a health screen this morning. They were doing them for free here at work. My good cholesterol looks good, bad cholesterol is too low
33.gif
, and my glucose is WAY low. Any one have any idea about how to increase glucose? I asked the lady if it is lowered b/c of the pregnancy, and she looked at me funny, and said it should actually be higher than normal. Odd...

meresal yes apparently you can put the remote on your belly and the baby, if active, will kick it off towards later stages of preggo! i have mostly heard of it happening to women in their third tri but ginger was saying her baby was doing it like 2 weeks ago. ours is def not that advanced yet, and he's still super low and off to the left so his movements are still more 'blurpy' than crazy kicks...but another one of my friends said that at like 18 weeks her kid was surfing across her belly so she could SEE it. def nothing like that over here...our kid likes to stay put...lazy like us.
5.gif

oh and a PSA for you preggos searching for GOOD MATERNITY PANTS... i just got a shipment from old navy and i just LOVE LOVE LOVE these pants: http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=6965160320002&cid=5860

They are jersey lined inside which makes them all nice and soft when you put them on and the outside is like a combo between nylon and cotton material. and pretty flattering for maternity pants AND drawstring AND under the belly. honestly the minute i put them on i was like OMG WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN THE LAST FIVE MONTHS? i am buying another pair in black right now. for those wondering about sizing, i ordered a medium and they fit perfectly...i'm 5'7" and 6 months. in Old Navy stuff before preggo i would have also been a medium. for you really small gals like ginger or jcrow, i would totally recommend small or even xs. but anyway, $25 people. I love these pants. and i got some jeans too that look pretty cute but have a belly panel so i immediately gravitated towards these this morning and i might wear them forever.

lol i just sent greg that article and he was like, yes i saw this this wkd and did not want to show you, but i can see you are trolling the internet for scary pregnancy stories. i was like NO someone posted it!
3.gif

re caffeine, yep it can get the baby going i guess... i def feel him when i have a little coffee. i just monitor based on the 200mg limit but typically i am doing like half-caf lattes and maybe an iced tea a day and the rest of the time it's water. but i like the idea of knowing if they are sluggish or freaking you out, you can get them going to town with some chocolate!

MP- I have been reading the same thing about lots of moms using things to ''instigate'' the baby, and I have gotten really paraniod about having any caffine at all.

I used to avoid it - for the first three months, when apparently it is the most crucial? - but now I have it in small amounts. I wanted some SO BAD and I found out that now that my MS is better, it calms my tummy in small amounts. It was just an added bonus (or downside?) that it made the baby dance lol.

MP it calmed my MS too that is why I would have it... but once I read that you can have up to 200mg (some sites said 300) daily the whole pregnancy I was like great. That is like 1 small cup of coffee and an iced tea plus maybe a little chocolate. Or like 2 cokes. Or whatever. That is basically more caffeine than I drank when not-preggo...so I really havent made much of a change in my lifestyle. I mostly drank water before anyway...and now that I actually like it again I've returned to that.

I am not a 'cut out everything' kind of person though in general. I still have sushi sometimes (at a place I have gone to for over 10 years), have 1-2oz of wine maybe once every 3 weeks with a nice dinner out, and eat bleu cheese on my salads maybe once a week (in the US it's pretty much all pasteurized and at most restaurants you can also ask and they will tell you what they buy).

That said, it is hilarious when I am in Sbucks waiting in line and people stare at you like, OMG A PREGNANT WOMAN is in the COFFEE SHOP? I want to scream out' 200 mg people!'

Hello everyone!

PG and Viz: I''m trying to lure your babies out with tasty goodies. Hopefully things progress quickly for you!

Sunkist: SO sorry you''re stuck in movers hell limbo! How are you feeling otherwise?

Monkey: I didn''t feel ANYTHING, not even a bubble until I was at least 21 weeks. I also had a bit more tummy padding than the average bear, too, so maybe that was the issue for me. I was so jealous of the early feelers!

Mara: those pants look super cute, but no way in hell am I buying new mat. pants now. I''m just going to go to the Big and Tall heifer store and buy me a mumu. I need to pack my bag for the hospital, and I think I''m going to bring a dress and a pair of pants, since I want to be prepared for a c-sec just in case. I WAS a girlscout for years, ya know. :)

November: how do you feel post shot? I''m definitely getting one if offered (hell, I''ll ask for it next week) because I have incredibly bad asthma, and I''m not taking ANY chances.

Meresal: hope you get some kind of solution to your health stuff!

As for me: I swear I saw another pink tinge yesterday. Again, I panicked. This time, instead of heading to Ikea for another trip around the casino-like structure (no clocks, no windows, might as well be on Mars), I took a shower and laid down. No more pink, knock on wood. She was VERY active yesterday, to the point that it hurt my cervix. I really do wonder if she''s doing something in there, it''s incredibly painful. I need to do breathing exercises and change position to get her to stop. It''s not cramping, it''s just a feeling of SCRAPING. She must have tuckered herself out, since until I ate an orange right now, she has not been moving more than a butt shirt today. Now she seems to be a bit pepped up.

We finally bought something for the decor in Piper''s room.

We''re getting this in chocolate to put above her crib. The name will read "Piper".

I need advice on these prints for her room. It was going to be a "Woodlands" theme, but it seems we''re moving more into owls and trees.

Okay, so the room is turquoise, the furniture is antique white, the trim is chocolate brown. I am torn on prints. We have =tags&includes[]=title:2o8h065d]this girly one based on PBK "Brooke" bedding , although I''m not a fan of the owl on the very right.

AND

=tags&includes[]=title:2o8h065d]this one, a little more graphicy DH likes the fatness of the owls.

Opinions?

I honestly thought I wouldn''t feel anything for a long time, and I was really surprised when I got those first two little thumps. And after I realized what it was, I knew I had been feeling them before - I just thought they were gas bubbles!

Oohh. I like the fat little owls! That is too cute - and it''s similar to the design you chose with her name, which I LOVE btw.

Amber--
Oooo...I vote for the fat owls.
The drawing is ultra cute and they real popped out more than the other.
Plus, I think the colors on that matches the color scheme in the room (particularly the torquoise and chocolate brown).

amber-
i like the first set of prints! gosh, your nursery is going to be so stinkin'' cute!!

Amber, thank you for eating tasty goodies on my behalf. That is very thoughtful of you!

Today was my first taste of having a real live person somewhere out there (in my classroom) doing my job for me. There was some confusion and some unnecessary text-messaging. The sub actually text-messaged me to ask me if the essays the kids wrote yesterday should be atrocious (BTW he''s 50, not 23), and I could tell he hadn''t logged into my email yet, so I said check the email and I''ll reply. Then he replied asking if *I* could delete all the emails that "didn''t mean anything to him" as he was just planning to archive everything for my perusal later. Um . . . I don''t know what everyone else''s work email is like, but it''s not usually stuff you can archive for somebody to read and deal with three months later. It''s all testing dates and duty information and emails about students and requests for work and changes to the school schedule, etc.

So if we give him the benefit of the doubt, he was just picking up on the fact that I am a perfectionist control freak and trying to let me keep control???? But really to me it sounded like he thought I was going to read all the emails and then tell him which ones to reply to and what to do. Wouldn''t that be nice of me? I had to inform him that unfortunately, those were all work related, i.e. things he needed to deal with, and if he didn''t know what to do, he should ask the department chair. I mean seriously, people, they are paying him to do my job right now, not me. I have been on leave since Monday. Not my problem!

My blood pressure shot up about 20 points when I logged into the Webmail just to confirm that he hadn''t checked it yet. And there wasn''t a single email that was an emergency that only I could deal with; obviously in that case the school would need to contact me directly.

Will not think about work, will not think about work . . .

PG and Viz, pulling for you!

November, glad to hear that you got the shot. I got it last week and my MIL acted like it would kill the baby instantly. The she offered me wine...

Mara, thank you for the pants tips.

Phoenix, how awful!
Wow, just started thinking about how I will need a sub for the last two months of this year and your guy sounds like a nightmare. Mine will be the other end of the spectrum, a recent grad who will have no control over seniors who want to test a sub. Hilarity will ensue, but no learning. Oh well. How to give up the control freak-ness? Good luck, well, you will have an awesome distraction very very soon!

And I just wanted to share a great birth story, my sister''s! She had contractions for 14 hrs (with no hot water at her apt), then went into the hospital when the Doula told her it was time, pushed for an hour and 15 and had a beautiful boy! No painkillers. Just a tylenol later on for the pain from 1 stitch. 6lbs 4oz. My sis is amazing, but I have to confess that she has never been a tough cookie, more like a whining about poor shoe choices kind of gal. Seriously, we can all do this.

i love the chubby owls too amber...but i love a lot of the chubby owls on etsy! they have great decals.

ooh swimmer i love hearing stories like that. it gives me hope...i am a total wuss about pain so whenever i really think about it i am practically hyperventilating..(esp after some of the stories that other people like to tell you!). but oh well, what''s done is done and what will be will be.
3.gif

i am ordering way too much cute baby stuff on gap right now... i just wanted to get that additional pair of mat pants but here i am clicking on all the gap owned brands going OOH.

and pg... relax and think work is work. tell that guy to not text you or call you, YOU ARE ON LEAVE. he''s an adult, he should be able to get by.
20.gif

PG,
This is your time to chill and relax and get ready for baby Claire. The sub, he''ll get by... I wouldn''t reply to him unless absolutely necessary.. His flubs are just going to highlight what a great teacher you are and will be sorely missed.. HTH!!!
I am glad you are not going to get induced, I think it was my downfall.

Best of luck!!!
