congrats qt, so happy for you a baby Jaron!

Jena, the best suggestion I recieved regarding reading was this: don''t. We have Your Pregnancy Week by Week and whenever I have a question I ask my husband to look up answers and find information, or I call my OB''s office. To see what''s going on week by week I use babycenter.com. I read bits of What to Expect prior to getting pregnant and hated it, too much bad stuff. A friend gave me Girlfriend''s Guide and I found it to be trite, threw it down after the first chapter. I am so glad now, at 34 weeks, that haven''t invested a lot of time in reading. I have been able to find out everything I need and want to know without making myself insane.

Congrats to all the new moms! Can''t wait to see pics and see you over at the moms'' thread!

Yay for Baby Jaron!
Congrats to QT and family

Jena: You''ll see that the majority of the PS preggos opted not to read most books on the subject. Many of us preferred to get the weekly Babycenter.com emails. Those are fun to read (your baby is the size of a bell pepper), AND informative! I did read Jenny McCarthy''s book and thought it was a hoot! Did I learn much? not really, but it was entertaining.

Jena- I haven''t read much at all. However, we do have Week by Week because we LOVED seeing the daily picture changes. They change so much in the beginning and it is so neat to read all the new things that are happeneing and how much they are changing.

I would reccomend that one, just for the sheer fact of the pictures. (But, you can get the same things from BabyCenter like PP said.)

And for a Dad book, I got DH "The Guy''s Guide to Surviving Pregnancy, Childbirth, and the First Year of Fatherhood", by Michael Crider. It was hilarious and a very quick read! It is just a book that is written from the Dad''s POV after his son is born. I definitely recommend it.

QT, I was hoping to see an update from you! Congratulations! Welcome baby Jaron! Can''t wait to meet him and hear more.

This is the second set of PS birthday twins! Yay!

I chatted a bit with Mara tonight and the hospital wireless isn't working for them, so she's looking to forward to coming back with details when she's home (which I expect will either be tomorrow or Wednesday).

She's very much appreciated all the well-wishes.

Bebe is BEYOND adorable; I'm hopelessly smitten already. He still definitely has her nose, which is hysterical because when I first saw her 20-week U/S picture, the first thing I said was "Oh, Mara, he has your nose!" (it was noticeable even then). I personally think his eyes are also shaped like hers, but his hands look like Greg's and I'm predicting his eye color will favor Greg's too.

Can't wait to hear more from QT, too. I'm still in shock (and considerable AWE, given both mamas' hard work) that we're having a little Pricescope Baby Quinella today!

I'm quite certain this has been one of my absolute favorite days on Pricescope.

I had this and I called it our "Bog Book O'' Fear" because it was one thing after the other that could go WRONG! haha... basically a compendium of doom and gloom. But I still read it. The pictures were fun!

hi all!! i managed to get the hospital wireless to work, yay because i wanted to post a bad iphone photo of our new little boy!

he was born this morning at 1:52am and is almost 21 inches and 8.2oz. i know that alj was sooo good to give you guys an update, thankfully!!

birth story. we went in yesterday afternoon at 3pm, when contrax were about 4 min apart and about 1 minute long only to find i was about 80% effaced and only 2cm dilated! as someone else posted, the effacement was probably the positive part but given how friggin painful the contax were, i was sooo disappointed to find that we were only at 2cm! i was also having really bad back labor at that point.

it was kind of funny because while i really tried to have not a lot of expectations re: the birth experience, i found out that i did anyway. aka i was disappointed that we had to get pitocin to further things along. we didn't HAVE to, but because the waters broke and i estimated it had been almost 12 hours since it happened, the hospital was concerned that i had made not much progress and that without help it would take too long to do it naturally. so we went on pitocin. but we both agreed, we had to do what made the most sense so it was fine.

i also thought no on IV drugs. umm WRONG, i was like PUT IT IN. the drug only lasted about an hour though, and with the pitocin, the contrax got crazy quite quickly. then i got the epi, the gal had to try THREE times to get a correct placement because i was so tense and stressed out and having contractions every few minutes.

but once the epi was in, i was totally feeling no pain. which is bizarre btw but at that point i was like 'i don't care, just stab me'. it also made me a little nauseated. the crazy thing is that within 6 hours from starting the pitocin, i was at 10cm! and head was at 0. they were all shocked as were we, and it took them almost an hour to ready things for us to push. at first i thought he might make jan 31 but they took so long to get ready and then pushing was 2 hours so we missed it!

i couldn't feel anything below my fundus, but i could still feel the fundus (top) which was kind of funny. so i could feel when contrax were coming on and also the kid still slithering around! my toes i could feel too. but legs, everything else was numb, they had to tell me when to push which is kind of weird but let me tell you it does not make pushing EASIER or anything like that. i pushed for 2 hours and 1.8+ of that was his HEAD...which could not quite clear my pelvic ones though all the people in the room were amazed that i was such a great pusher given i couldn't feel a darn thing (though the last 30 min the epi was wearing off so i could feel the head and pressure so it was perfect)...the funniest thing was that his head finally made it and like 2 pushes later his entire body just came out and he had wide open eyes and started squealing.

it was surreal because one second i was interminably pushing (and taking naps in between basically since i was sooo tired) and the next second there is this squalling wide-eyed infant right in front of my eyes!! they didnt even really need to suction his eyes and mouth..it was so odd. they put him on us and did skin to skin while they stitched me up and got the placenta and all that. btw we looked at the placenta, super cool to see what my kid has been snuggling against for 10 months. it looks just like in the 3d ultrasound just red.

i had a slight tear but very minor, only a few stitches and i can't really feel it. however, everything down there is so crazy swollen and tender. my hospital does ice diapers which sounds hilarious but it feels so good for the first day. i am taking motrin for pain only and feel pretty good. i have a crazy strained muscle in my leg from not being able to feel it and prob holding it at some weird angle for pushing, that is almost more irritating than the crotch pain.

but our little guy is so cute...and he sleeps just like his daddy, open mouth. and he is hilarious when he eats and then passes out, he's like a drunken sailor. it's so adorable. greg is LOVING him, he is just a smitten dad. i am finding i am being a practical mom, but that is how i am so i think Greg and I compliment each other. we are doing bf'ing and the little guy is a pretty good sucker though he tries to get the tongue in there and just play around.

we are having to supplement with formula because he tested high for bilirubin, so he is under the lights (which he LOVES, he just sleeps with his little eye patches on), and we want to get his levels down so we are doing boob training and formula feeding at the hospital to help the bilirubin clear his system faster. i am also pumping at the hospital just to get stimulation going so that i can move to real bf'ing asap. he is a great eater so far and champion pooper!

my key take away here: pitocin and epi go HAND IN HAND.

i have CRAZY respect now for moms who went totally natural birthing, i mean i was 2cm and it felt like i was dying. but the back labor was really something else...and he WAS in the 'right position' for pushing. i imagine labors are all diff but i would never have been able to go natural.

oh and also they had to do some extra blood draws on him to check for bacterial infections, because he ended up being in there after my water was broken for almost 24 hours. they prefer 18 or less apparently.

i haven't had a chance to read really any of the last few pages, just wanted to post this before the hospital wireless crapped out. but thanks for all the well-wishes and congrats... it really is pretty amazing what i gestated for 10 months in my belly. and greg and i will be sitting here in the room doing something and then i will be like 'honey we made him' and we grin. it's just crazy..! i can't wait for all the other first timers to experience it!!

and QT congrats...birth twin!! Greg pointed out that 2/1/2010 is a really cool birthday...and i agree!!

here's the little man's picture at one hour after birth. we are still working on a name but i think we have it pinned down.

Yay Mara!

I have to tell you I was waiting on bated breath to see if he would be born in January or February!!!

A huge congrats to you and Greg!

yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!! Mara I''m so happy for you!!! your little guy is so adorable!!!!!! glad you, daddy and baby are all doing great :) :) :)

Congratulations Mara & Mara-hubby-family. Your little man is so very handsome!
You''ve totally made an ordinary work night so much more exciting with your post of your beautiful shiny new penny. Even though we are strangers we share the bond of good fortune in life - and I wanted to tell you that I was totally rooting for you the last few days - sending warm vibes your way. So glad everything went well with your delivery. Your little boy is so precious and brings fond memories to me, as this is also a special day to my family. My sister''s twins were also born today on the 1st of Feb. The twins are 3 today (thriving) yet I still remember eagerly waiting by the phone for the delivery news.

Anywho, Isn''t life great! Enjoy and Congrats again & again!

Congratulations to all the other moms out there. I enjoy following your month to month adventures and I adore the pictures of the newborns.

He''s just perfect, Mara. Congratulations.

Mara,

He is just beautiful! He definitely has your eyes and nose, Alj was right! I am absolutely delighted for you and Greg, couldn't be happier!!!!

Your story was rivetting, Mara. I felt as if I were reliving it with you! Thank you for taking the time to write it out in so much detail :-). I think you were incredibly brave under pressure. For a first time mom, you were pretty cool facing the pitocin! It took my best friend years (literally) to get over the trauma of her first son's birth.

Hearty congratulations to you and Greg! Baby T is gorgeous. And may the breast feeding continue smoothly!!!

Hugs,
Deb/AGBF

I can''t wait for my day, I am only in my 6th week of pregnancy, not many symptoms yet. Just tired and my (.)(.)''s are soooo sore! My first U/S is in 3 weeks, so that will be when I get really excited, right now it''s hard to believe still for some reason! I always said I didn''t want to know if it was a boy or a girl but I don''t think I am going to want to wait! I want to know now!!!
36.gif

I was wondering if there were any books or magazines that were very informative for you ladies? This is our first baby and I want to learn all I can now to be prepared!

Congratulations Jena!! I''m only a little ways ahead of you, seven weeks now. My symptoms are starting to get a lot stronger and more consistent now and I''ve gone from a size 6 to a 10 because of bloat (&@#$^*&#%@&$*%^!!!!!!). The first book DH and I picked up was What to Expect and it''s definitely informative, but I agree with the others, it''s a little bit too serious sometimes. I also have the Pregnancy by week and Girlfriend''s Guide books (Thanks Swimmer!) and I second the rec for the Girlfriend''s Guide. It''s a really light hearted and funny approach to everything we''re going through right now. One book I want to get is the Dad''s Survival Guide for my husband. He''s read all the chapters for Dads in the other books but I don''t think the information really set in.

I don''t think I can wait to find out the sex either! DH wants to do the intelligender test, but I think there are better things to spend $35 on. But I did find out that my doc does the anatomy u/s at 18 weeks, so we should find out the sex then. YAY!

Hope to talk with you more in the coming months!
