Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

I stayed in the hospital gown the entire time...even though I wasn''t bleeding all over the place. I just didn''t feel like it..haha. I wanted to be lazy and just lay in bed and hold my baby.

Hey ladies! So the NT went great and we saw the one, live baby squirming around in there! The neck measurement combined with bloodwork #1 readings were stellar, so risk of Downs and whatever else it is sensitive to is superlow. Hubs was trying to get his iphone-doctor tools to access the appropriate odds calculator so we could figure that the actual odds from the numbers (as they didn't give us our actual odds, just said that the numbers as they were discussing and that the odds were great) but hubs was having difficulty loading it ... the OB items aren't in his usual toolkit.

And the tech was all business but the doc was great, and confirmed there's a heart on the right side of the body (I assume he meant 'correct' side of body, not actually the right side, since he implied this was a postive finding) and there was a stomach and a skull around the brain and such. I was so transfixed by all the little parts we could see - phalanges ie little finger bones (too much Bones-watching) and ribs and arms and legs and vertebre! - that I barely even asked about gender at the end. And the little one's legs were probably sufficiently open but I think the angle of the legs relative the ultrasound probe was wrong as there was a leg-shadow blocking the view... The doc said he could give us a guess but wouldn't expect to do better than a coin... well he qualified that 51% are boys at this stage gestation, so maybe he could do about 1% better than a coin by guessing boy. So there you have it!

vesper, glad your friend's delivery went OK if not according to plan and good that she's is taking her c-section well. I know a few people that didn't and its just hard. Valid feelings, but unfortunate to feel sad about the manner of your baby's birth.

lovely, my hubs gets the leg cramps in the middle of the night occasionally. Freaked me out the first time (and the second time, and the third time) though now I know he's not generally dying when he lunges out of bed with a shriek in the middle of the night and bounces around grimacing holding his calf. This too will pass.

Pretty Blues, for my friend that had the ultrasound tech guess 'girl' at 13-14 weeks, I mercilessly teased her that girls are misidentified easier and ultrasounds aren't perfect and my other friend has a girl guess at her early ultrasound only to deliver a boy (though that friend never got confirmation at a later ultrasound) ... well she printed out the money shot from her 20 week ultrasound with an arrow pointing the the 3 lines that were positive ID of girl parts. So... if you have a good tech and the right shot, you can get 'proof' of the girl goods, not just lack of the boy parts.

I guess I have just been in denial about the whole preggo-body hitting so soon. I'm a big girl so I just thought there'd be more room available so I'd be able to postpone the showing/dealing until later but no such luck. I guess I have been eating continuosly since the nausea hit at like 6ish weeks, without throwing up, and I have been more and less bloated over time, but it the overall shape is definitely changing. I've put on like 5-6 lbs (more than I'd like but I can't really help it) but has to be mostly added to the belly and boobs. I can't button or zip most of my pants, all but my loosest shirts are stretched across the boobs and show off something that is either a massive beer gut or beginning preggo belly. I've been in one regular bra since like 3 weeks preggo, as the rest were too small, and said bra is just not cutting it anymore. Most of my exercise bras are a total no-go. (Any bra recs? Normally I like underwire but its getting uncomfortable. Can't tell if that is b/c of the underwire+preggo status or wrong size issue. I know that I need to plan on possibly more expansion, but I need a tide me over or two.) I went down to only wearing one ring a few weeks ago and might have to retire my wedding band soon

as it is getting uncomfortably tight. At only 13 weeks! Oh well. Best get used to it and ready for more, I suppose.

AND I get to go on a work retreat this weekend. Hmm, wonder how this will go? Luckily the nausea is going much much better overall, but it can still hit pretty quickly and require eating immediately every few hours to avoid meltdown. My boss definitely noticed I wasn't drinking at a dinner event last week, so I wonder if she suspects already. When and HOW did you all tell work people?

Hey guys... I''m feeling pretty overwhelmed by the nausea at 7 weeks. There''s a small list of foods that I''m not repelled by and it seems to change every day.. and I feel sick and woozy if I don''t have something in my tummy, then after I eat something I feel really hot! Please tell me it gets better

For most of us it got better in the second trimester. Only in the last few weeks have I totally been ok though, without gagging at certain smells (or just randomly throughout the day). I kept stuff I could nibble on constantly to keep my tummy calm, and drank LOTS of water. Sometimes a soda would help, but it would take me all day to drink a can.

CoralQ, I was so there. Do what you can (always have snacks with you, eat what looks palatable or you know goes down okay and avoid the rest especially trigger foods or smells, sometimes sucking on a hard candy or ice will help, sparing use of regular coke can be wonderful even though it might seem like a revolting idea - something about the caffeine+sugar syrup), also consider asking your doc for meds. I went on a generic version of zofran and it helped but I was still some version of miserable for well over a month. Now for the last few weeks (I'm 13 wks now) it has been a touch better but still not gone. Also try to find those foods that work for you to get you out of the total misery stage - for some people might be saltines or a certain fruit or applesauce or toast, etc. I found oranges worked really well for me - the smell was pleasant plus a nice jolt of blood sugar. For me also compressing my stomach/abdomen was a trigger - even the sitting position - and know that exercise will suppress the vagus nerve (responsible for nausea) while digestion and sitting/lying down will allow it to become overactive. Even though I was so incapable of what I used to consider exercise and did a lot of couch-lying, I started taking a walk every morning immediately after breakfast and that helped, even if I had to throw/drag myself out the door. And when I start to get too sick sitting at my desk, I get up and take a walk around if I can manage.

ETA: It WILL get better. (OK, only for the vast majority but just plan on it being temporary and count days/weeks left in the first tri - that's your immediate goal).

Cara, I''m so glad to hear that your NT scan went well. Isn''t it amazing to see their little profiles?

Coral, try Saltine crackers. I kept sleeves of saltines next to my bed, in my car, in my office at work. Every time I felt nausea coming on, eating a few really helped. Hopefully your sickness will pass soon!

Puppmom, can''t wait to hear what you''re having!

Shiny, I''m sure that you will look beautiful in your dress - it''s always so nice to look back after the baby and see pictures from when you were pregnant!

YAY! Cara I''m so glad your scan went well! Oh, and you''re not alone with the boobs and belly thing. I''m up from a 36C to a 38D in regular bras, but I''m not sure how long that will even last. I picked up a basic nude colored Hanes bra a week or so ago that I''ve been living in. I''m not going to go out and buy a ton when I don''t even know if this size is going to stick around. As for pants, it''s a continuous struggle. I started out a size 8 and now I can barely get into a 12, yet maternity pants just fall off me. BTW, what''s up with the super narrow cut to the legs of maternity pants? Now, I totally admit that I have thunder thighs, but it seems like everything is super slim cut through the thigh. You''d think they''d be a little more generous for those of us who aren''t string beans. And the narrow leg definitely contributes to the pants falling off because obviously they''re roomier around the waist so they slowly work their way down as I walk and my chub rubs together. So with the warmer weather this week here in the NE I''ve been rocking dresses and skirts. it''s such a nice change to not have to wear pants that are only zipped up an inch.

What did you ladies do about undies? My stock of pairs that fit is quickly dwindling to nothing, but I''m scared of granny panties.

Coral, I second the ladies who said to make sure you eat something. I actually found that a mix of protein and fat held my m/s at bay; however, I didn''t have it too badly. The few times I did though I also found that drinking and smelling ginger tea helped a lot. Smelling it worked better than drinking it most of the time.

cara - it is utterly transfixing to watch your babe up on that screen
36.gif
so glad that all is measuring well and that all his/her bits and pieces are where they should be!

coral - it will get better. but right now it is just the pits. the combination of exhaustion + naseau is just a mean-spirited duo. I thritto the suggestion of eating something to help try to keep it at bay. I found these goldfish-esque crackers very handy. they came in kid-sized snack packs, but then I just started buying the jumbo box
3.gif
. I found carbs to be one of the only things that my body would tolerate. hope that you are feeling better soon!

hudson - I feel like an ad, but I recommend gap maternity pants. I have a few pairs (both for work and a pair of jeans for play) and they are marvelous. they fit great and don''t look half bad. I am in denial about needing new bras. I hate bras. as for underwear, I''m still wearing my normal pairs and intend to do that all the way through if possible. so far so good.

Cara, congrats on a great scan! I loved watching our baby on the screen. They''re the perfect size at the 12 week scan because you can see everything.

HH, for underwear I wear Maidenform Smooth Hipster and they still fit (and I''m up 15 pounds!). Some of my others *choke* me but these are still perfect so I plan to just buy more. I second what LL said about Gap. They''re pants are true to size and don''t just come in Small, Medium and Large (god, that''s annoying - women come in more than 3 sizes!). I bought a pair of jeans there and I wear them almost every day. They''re work pants were an issue for me because they were sooo long but, if you''re a little taller they should be fine for you. I''m normally a 6 and am wearing size Small Motherhood pants. I only have two pairs so I''m wearing them out! Anyway, they stretch so just after a washing they''re a little snug and by the end of the day fit great. Three wears later...they need another wash. As opposed to the Gap pants, Motherhood pants are on the short side. So, if you''re tall, probablyl not the best fit for you. Wearing maternity pants definitely takes some getting used to because they do feel like they''re falling down at first but, IMO, it''s better than going up several sizes in your regular pants because then they''re all dumpy in the butt and thighs.

I''m seriously sitting on the edge of my seat with excitement. My anatomy scan is in FOUR HOURS!

Hey everyone!

Our appt went really well yesterday. Baby is measuring right on track... as usual. I was so good to see him again! I go back today to meet with the doctor's assistant again, for my check up. Hopefully everything else looks good as well.

Funny thing though... he seems to have already developed a *bit* of a personality. He totally gave us the finger when we were trying to get pictures of his face.

Good news is, he has 5 toes on each foot. Yay!

ETA: Pupp--- You must be ecstatic!! I can't wait to hear what you are having!!

pupp - I''ll be looking out for an update. hmmm boy or girl.

I vote boy

Meresal, great US pic! That's hilarious about the finger. Glad to hear that all is well.

HH, I HIGHLY recommend a Belly Band to hold up your pants (I just got the one they sell at Motherhood). I actually had really good luck buying the secret belly jeans at Motherhood Maternity (I also started out a size 8 and I wear the Medium) but they were big on me early in the pregnancy. The belly band held them up until I "grew into them." I also recommend putting some body butter or lotion on your stomach and hips - you will want to do it anyway to prevent stretch marks, but the tackiness also helps to keep your pants up.

For underwear, I LOVE the maternity thongs from Motherhood too. I think they come in 4 packs, and they are SO comfortable.

Bras are a pain. I just went to the Bali/Playtex outlet and bought a bunch of new bras for $10 each in my new pregnancy size.

mere - a little firecracker already
9.gif
that is one for the baby book!!

About the bellyband - unfortunately, it didn''t work too well for me for very long. Because I gained some initial weight in my bum/thigh area, my old pants just didn''t fit
15.gif
. elastic top or not.

Vesper- Thanks!

lulu- It is definitely being saved for the baby book... I could not stop laughing when it happened. One second we were looking at his fist, and then... BAM! I got my first tiny inkling of what it feels like when your child humiliates you. lol. This wasn''t even that bad! I can only imagine the things you blush over once they start talking!

Bella band *kinda* works for me. If I''m not too bloated I can get away with it. Actually works better with my old pants that are tighter in the thighs/bum (and can''t be zipped at all!) cause those provide some friction staying power when coupled with the Bella. But some days I''m bloated, or get bloated by the end of the day and the Bella becomes really uncomfortable when I don''t want anything touching/compressing my abdomen and I have to get it off as soon as I can.

Its definitely worth a try, but don''t go crazy or anything until you know they work for you. I did have a friend that got away with them through most of her pregnancy.

Mere, you''re kids got personality! What fun!

Ooooh how exciting puppmom!

Hudson_Hawk - re: underwear - i just went to motherhood maternity and picked up a few packs of their bikini underwear and those have been doing fine. they aren''t the up to the boob kind, so i feel a bit better :]

CoralQuiz - yes, the nausea is sucky. very very sucky. if it''s really bad, you can talk to your doctor and get some medicine to help you. for me, sipping hot lemon water helped. i also was sure to have cherrios on hand at all times. not much sounded/tasted/smelled good, so that was very hard too. i basically could get down carbs - mashed potatoes, cheerios, etc. i couldn''t do saltine crackers because they were too salty. salt made me gag. the beginning is about survival. get what you can down, and know that it will get better.

re: bellaband - LOVE it. i''m 33 weeks and still wear it. i never fit into maternity pants [except for one pair that are pretty uncomfortable] so i just bought a couple of pairs of j.crew pants. i use the bellaband with those. and now that i''m larger with a weirdo belly button area, i use the bellaband to sorta hide that area when i wear thin or light colored shirts. i''m actually looking to get another bellaband in white. the one i have is black.

hospital gowns - I stayed in hospital gowns the whole time. It was just easy. I could barely move and with the thick pads, mesh undies, blood, I just didn''t want to wear anything else.

underwear - last pregnancy I wore most of my regular underwear. Bought a few pairs of granny undies and two maternity underwear from Nordstroms that can go over your belly. They were okay but I didn''t love them.

belly bands - tried it and hated it. I don''t think i used it longer than a week or two. It annoyed me so I just switched to maternity pants. I actually don''t know where I put my belly band - I can''t find it anywhere! This time around, I actually starting wearing my maternity jeans very early - 6 or 7 weeks? just cause they are soo comfy. They are a little big in the hip area but I don''t mind.

Coral, sorry about the bad m/s. Hang in there - it will get better, I promise!

cara, yay for a great NT scan!

puppmom, how exciting! have fun!!

meresal, yay for a great appt and u/s. How often does your practice do u/s?

drk, since you haven''t posted in awhile, I''m sure you must be holding your little girl by now! I can''t wait for an update!

Hi to everyone else I missed!
35.gif

Cara- Yay for personality! lol

Snlee- I had an u/s at every appointment up until the gender one at 22 weeks. This one yesterday at 34 weeks, was the first one we have had since the gender scan. (so I we have had apprx 7 including yesterday).
Sometimes it was just a peek to see the little guy with the machine in our appt room, but the *dating u/s* (6 weeks), the *NT scan* (12 weeks), the *gender scan* (22 weeks), and this last one *the measurement scan* (34 weeks), were all on the main/expensive ultrasound machine and had to have a special appointment with the technician.

Mere, that was the most hilarious ultrasound picture ever! Haha I love it - he''s a little spitfire already!

I cannot wait for drk to come show us pictures, she HAS to be holding that baby by now!

lol mere that is the best. kind of like our awesome ''package'' shot of our little boy''s goodies... it was what we sent to all the family. no mistaking certain things!!!

re: maternity undies for HH... i just went to target and got some jockey cotton bikinis is a size larger than i''d typically wear. and then another size larger.
3.gif
that way i wasn''t wearing huge monstrosities but i was comfortable and still a little sexy feeling. i wore them for the few weeks pp too when things felt all weird. the jockey packs of 3 at target are cheap too like $7 or something.

Regarding the Belly Band, I just wanted to clarify that I wore them over my secret fit belly maternity pants. The band didn''t work for me over regular pants, but I wore them as kind of a belt over the maternity pants so that they would stay up, since mine were always sliding down like HH''s. So, that may work for you if your problem is too big maternity pants.

VG-I never thought to couple the BB with the maternity pants. Thanks for the tip, I''ll have to try it. I have 2 BB and I''ve been getting a lot of use out of them, but they definitely do get uncomfortable as the day progresses and I find they don''t really hide the open top of your pants well. I guess most of my shirts, while stretchy and long, are pretty form fitting, so it''s really obv that something is up with my pants. I keep trying though.

I have one or two really long, loose shirts for days when I wear my pants held together with a rubber band, hah. I have two pairs of pre-PG pants I wear like that because I just couldn''t bring myself to invest in more maternity pants. They are comfortable enough, but I do have to pull them up a lot.

Cramps.

I know cramps early on are pretty normal, but what about in the early 2nd tri? I''ve had a good deal of pain really low in my pelvic area today (above pubic bone but not too far), and it''s been at times on the left side and other times on the right. All I can think of is ovary pain or Bun bouncing off the sides of my ute.

How many weeks are you? If I''m remembering correctly, you should be around 12-14 weeks?

RLP usually starts at the beginning of the second trimester so that would be my guess.

HH, what fiery said. I''ve been having some twinges in that area that are not exactly cramp-like, I think they are ligaments stretching. Time is right. Every now and then I''ll have a light cramp of the ute (feels round and bigger than usual but like menstrual cramps rather than one-sides not exactly at the uterus) but it goes away when I change position/drink/rest so I think its OK. Nothing like the 5 week charlie-horse of ute pain - that was ridiculous! But generally, severe cramps ---> doc and cramps + bleeding/discharge ---> doc.
