Gasp!! Doesn''t it HURT???? I accidently chipped a tiny piece of tooth off once when i fell face flat on concrete, and it hurt for months. I can''t imagine grinding so much away! I always thought they just paste it on like braces brackets, and you have to replace them once every few years!
I thought they just put little white covers on teeth too. I first heard about the grinding after my husband''s aunt had a few of her teeth veneered. I''m not sure about pain but she''s got access to pain killers so I''m sure she wasn''t feeling *anything*. I think that for the price you pay you''re going to get some good sh*t to ease your woes. lol

Have you watched that horrible show, "The Swan?" They''ve included segments where women get the veneers (which pretty much confirmed that this is a serious procedure) and the woman were rather whinny about the entire thing. lol

Yes! I watched a few episodes and I read an article with one of the contestants from last season. She was complaining because she has no job and nobody wants to pay for her "fairy tale wedding" after her "fairy tale transformation". I wanted to slap her.

I wouldn''t mind getting my stomach liposuctioned tho. My entire body is size 0 and my waist is 27 inches... it''s so embarassing. My mom, at age 48 (and 3 kids), still has a 25 inch waist! grrr.....

No, I will age gracefully. I''ve never known anyone to have cosmetic surgury & not be able to tell.

Yeah Nan - I liked my friends old nose also. I can revisit it on her son. I like it on him as well.

Nothing wrong with taking care of yourself. If you do, any age can be great.
100% with you F&I. Like you, I will age gracefully. I think the biggest problem with cosmetic surgery/botox is that a lot of people don''t know when to stop. One procedure is quickly followed by another, and the next thing you know, you''re addicted to cosmetic surgery.

I must admit that when I was younger I wanted a boob job as I was unahppy about my ''fried eggs'' but I''m so glad I never did. I have learnt to accept my body (warts and all) and am happy with the way I look.

Ok, Ok, so at my age (I think you all are a lot younger!) I am on my second set of porcelain veneers (top and bottom this time), had my nose fixed (quite a while ago, had it broken as a kid, and I must say mine looks A LOT better after being fixed, no one could tell, I had an artist for a plastic surgeon!) tried Botox (on my fourth treatment had a horrid headache and felt like crap for three days). I was even going to try Botox again with a different doctor, but the weekend prior to my appointment the four people from Florida ended up on ventilators from botulism poisoning possibly from Botox injections (canceled that appointment!). I am not happy about the aging process, but I have to say, I am a real chicken when it comes to "sucking" stuff out or going under the knife! If I had the nerve though I might consider it!

I have one child and I guess I got very lucky, not only is she a phenominal kid, but my body suffered very little. No stretch marks at all, I just got a bit wider in the hips than I used to be. Probably not noticable to anyone but me!

I watched some of Extreme Makeover last year and got concerned for a few of the makeover people. Like that nurse from Georgia. She turned out so beautiful, but her son didn''t even know who she was and it didn''t look like her husband would be able to handle her ''new appearance'' very well. I felt sad for her, she looked stunning, but her life as she knew it may be turned upside down.

I''ll keep you posted on whether I get my nerve up for anything more than I have tried already!!

Wow! neat to see all the replies. Ive been at the docs with my daughter, thought it was strep, but thankfully not!

To reply about the tummy scar, if you get the tummy tuck from hip to hip, also known as the major one, there is a larger scar that will fade out. If you have the smaller one, where they lift up your muscles and tighten them and do liposuction thats the "mini". The scar is in the bikini hair line. I''m a nurse and I work with some friends who had it done. I would like some things done, but I dont want my friends seeing my fat/wrinkles! I''d have to go to a different hospital! I really want my lips done, and Im thinking of it. I did bleach my teeth and they were sensitive but they are white! All the coffee and soda had stained them badly. If anyone bleaches their teeth, they should try SuperSmile toothpaste to keep it whiter longer.

There was an article in the NY Times last weekend about how people are giving Botox and boob job gift certificates this year for Xmas! One woman is having her hubby's teeth whitened for Xmas present. It was hilarious! Doesn't it give you the warm and fuzzies?? I'd rather have a spa day!!

Are you eating low carb or doing food combining? Both of these help tremendously and you can loose a bit of weight on your waist because food combining reduces bloating. I''m a size 2 and found that for the first time I actually have a figure with my small hips after I started eating either meat/veggies OR carbs/veggies because this food diet makes my tummy shrink up.

The women post-op on the swan look really weird, don''t they? What I find really disturbing is many of the ladies look like freaky hollywood TV personalities and it''s upsetting that our "roll models," for younger girls are based on plastic and kind of unattractive women. I think cheek implants make a woman''s face TOO bold, almost masculine!

Oooh, I''d rather have pave diamond veneers than just plain old whitening. Imagine THIS look??? Talk about dazzling smile. lol

Okay, here''s the deal on the porcelain veneers since there have been some questions raised:

Yes, they do need to grind down some of your own tooth''s surface to be able to put on the veneer. Thus, once you commit yourself to the veneers, you will have to have them for life.

This is not the first set I''ve had; I had ones put on in 1992, but with the technology at the time and my personal wear and tear, I opted to redo them in 2003, a year ago. My new ones are really fabulous and VERY natural looking. When I tell people that I have veneers, they are shocked -- I think that is a testament to the dentist that did the work. And, other dentists that are in my social circle have expressed what a fabulous job my dentist did.

They should only grind down the tooth surface for the minimum amount needed, and nothing more. They use local anesthesia for this. It is about four hours in the dentist''s chair, depending on how many teeth you are doing. At that visit, they put on temporaries that you wear until your real "teeth" are made. The temps available now look so real -- I was so impressed with the temps that I wanted to keep them!

If you go to a really good cosmetic dentist, they send your impressions to a tooth sculptor. My dentist actually took me with him to have a consult with the sculptor so I could show him pics of what I liked and didn''t like, so we could talk about shape, natural ridges, shading, and of course, color.

If you watch "Extreme Makeover", the veneers given to those people are from the Da Vinci lab (they''ll say on the show something like, "Patricia received 10 Da Vinci porcelain veneers"). The sculptor of my veneers was one of the original people with Da Vinci and then started his own lab, Opus One, which is where my veneers were made.

About two weeks later, you go back in for another approx. 4 hour appt. for the dentist to remove the temps and put on the permanent porcelain veneers. Again, they use local anesthetic.

If anyone has any further questions, you can post here or feel free to PM me!

Thanks for informing us on veneers. This would be one of only a few procedures I''d consider. My teeth aren''t the best feature of my face so I''d probably be more inclined to get them straightened a bit, but also they''d look better if I hadn''t indulged in about 10 gallons of espresso this previous year so they could use whitening. . . I''ve heard that whitening damages the enamel on your teeth. I''m not sure if this is true, but this is why I''ve avoided doing this.

Low carbs?
emotion-33.gif
what''s that?? My idea of combining food is shoving everything in my mouth and chewing...
2.gif
My hips are pretty small too, that''s why my waist looks even bigger than it is. (actually, it''s 26, not 27... i just measured) At 34-26-34, I''m practically a tube.
14.gif
I should start eating healthier... ever since I started my new job I''ve been eating nothing but microwave lunches and fast food. Come to think of it, I can''t remember the last time I had a fruit.

I actually see a lot of women around here that look like Swan contestants so I''m kinda used to it... but now that you''ve mentioned it, they do look kinda weird... and all the same!

Headlight,

We have similar backgrounds where veneers are concerned. I got my first set in ''88 and they lasted for about 14 yrs.

I did not have the opportunity to meet with the sculptor, however. That would have really been awesome.

I also did not have local anesthetic either time. I had very little sensitivity regarding the procedure. I think the worst was the retraction cords used!

The reason I sought veneers was because I was given tetramyacin (sp?) drugs as a child, while my permanent teeth were forming, turning them very yellowy. I am very thankful for the invention of veneers!!

I think that The Swan is VERY exploitative and I'm not a fan. But I disagree with my husband re: the fact that people who are...let's face it...pretty hard on the eyes... should just learn to love themselves. If people are 100% happy despite any perceived flaws, that is WONDERFUL and I'm jealous!!! But I have no problem with people getting work done if they are in a healthy state of mind. (p.s. I'm not talking about Barbie issues. We don't all have to look like Barbie to be beautiful) Imperfections can be beautiful...but when it really hinders someone, then go for it!!!!

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, WILL SOMEONE SUCK MY THIGHS...LOL.... I REALLY REALLY want my upper inner thighs lipo''d. Has plagued me for years. One sweet day and it shall be done. I just need to get down to fighting weight first...if that ever happens!
Im with ya on that one MMM!!!! My thighs make me look so much heavier than i really am, and im a big girl to start with. I often have to buy a size up in pants *just* to get my thighs in them, and then the waist is way too big and i look frumpy instead of well tailored.
14.gif
15.gif
39.gif
I''ve tried everything... excercising, weight lifting, a personal trainer. 90% of the time im a very healthy eater (the chocolate/junk food craving kicks in once a month!). Would love the lipo but dont like the idea of all the pain and my FI2Be doesnt think i need it.
14.gif

Some people just have uneven fat distribution and/or odd pockets of fat. I say go for it! LOL.

I just want it because I''m afraid I"m going to start a fire or something (LOL...with my inner thighs rubbing together LOL).

It would change the way I dress and feel. But alas, I need to slim down. (and same here- when I WAS in shape, I still had the same problem)...Not to mention I''m afraid!
My friend had her legs and hips done...she is SO tiny on top and eats SO well and works out all the time. Nothing changed. Until lipo! And yes, she said she felt like she was beat down with a baseball bat after.

RTFLMAO... me and my mom say that to each other all the time! I bought a pair of corduroy pants a couple weeks ago and was showing them to her and she made a comment that i needed to be careful with them and not set anything on fire. The summer time is the worst. One day im going to get up the nerve... once i save the $$$... and at least i tried to fix it on my own first.

You ladies aren''t the only ones.. I''m heading in for Lasik in February.. I''ve been in glasses for 30 years and can''t wait to get rid of them (I can only wear contacts for a few hours at a time)..

I had LASIK 7 years ago. Best money I will ever spend
(aside from my eventual e-ring of course).

HI:

My husband always maintained that "girls never made passes at men in glasses"--so in his mind his LASIK was justified. He is quite well satisfied I believe

ROLLING NJC!!!! Yup. Summer time is when the shorts get to go straight up my bum b/c my thighs just suck that material right up LOLOLOL.

Are you a Seinfeld fan NJC? "What''s that shwooshing noice?" "Oh, it''s that suit...that''s your thighs rubbing togehter!" LOLOLOLOLOL

okay I ADMIT IT, sometimes i want a boob job!
6.gif
6.gif
lol! i don't think i'd ever actually go through with it (not that there's anything wrong with that, lol) but that doesn't mean i don't think about it sometimes.... like when i'm trying on clothes and find that i can't fill out a children's size 6X tube top.
7.gif

the FI is adamantly against it, though. (he's a sweetie.)

It is not possible for me to age gracefully.....I shall be nipped, tucked, shellaced, waxed, lasered, and veneered....tastefully of course, not to change my looks but to enhance them. Talked to my darlin'' man about this just last week and although he isn''t crazy about the idea, he''ll support my cosmetic enhancements. Thinking about getting work done over the summer when it''s easier to take significant time off. I want veneers, a tummy tuck, lipo, butt lift and maybe breast enhancement. Oh, how lovely it would be to have my breasts back on my chest rather than making intimate acquaintenance with my waist!

I had mine done slightly less than 5 years ago but due to excessive PC usage, I have to wear glasses again

LOL... yea... i hear that sound EVERY day... you can hear me 5 blocks away!

JERRY: Did you hear something?
ELAINE: Yeah, like a swoosh.
JERRY: Yeah.
ELAINE: It must be the fabric. It''s rubbing between you thighs when you walk. That''s what''s making that swooshy sound. (George walks back and forth to verify and it swooshes again)
GEORGE: I probably didn''t hear it on the way over because of the street noise. (he panics) This is no good! I got to meet these guys from MacKenzie for lunch in half an hour!
JERRY: So what? What would they care?
GEORGE: This MacKenzie, he''s a bit of a nut. Someone told me he fired the last guy because his nose whistled when he breathed.
JERRY: So you think you''re not gonna get the job because your pants make a noise?
GEORGE: Let''s say it comes down to me and one other guy. He''s got a nice quiet suit, and I''m whooshing all over the place! Who do you think he''s gonna hire?
JERRY: You know, I think all these interviews are making you nuts.

the whole script

Thank goodness my bosses never heard my "swoosh"!!!

Rolling! That;s my new "signature"

OMG, lol.

i LOVE seinfeld. i bought the DVD set for like 18 people for xmas.

I''m getting braces next year, but other than that, I am very happy with my face and body. I have a strong Italian nose but I have strong cheekbones, too, so it all balances out. As for the bod, competing in running races has made me a lean, mean muscle machine, with 13% body fat

I had Lasik 3 years ago. Went from legally blind to 20/20, it''s like a miracle, I tell you. No more wearing contacts in the shower lest I kill myself, I can see the number on my clock radio.

My friend Lilia had a- well, basically a BODY lift after losing over 100 lbs. They had to remove her belly button to reposition it, but they put the damn thing back! Her scars are very, very faint, you have to know where to look to find them. She looks amazing. She had small implants put in to lift her boobs a bit, but she hated the sloshing sound they made, and the way they felt, and had them removed. She is very happy with them now.

No major surgeries for me until I am done having children....then I might get breast implants.

I have a good friend who is recoving from her surgery, she had breasts re-done and reduced, tummy tuck and thigh liposuction. She has been in agonizing pain for 2 weeks now and is unable to care for her children. I saw her last week and she had a yucky drainage tube and pain pump and was still in massive pain, bruised and swelled. She had to wear a sort of body cast to keep the swelling down. I guess it will be worth it for her, but no way am I putting myself thru that!!

seriously? there''s the end of that dream for me. maybe that''s a good thing!

Yup. They do.

Here's the thing: I know several women who had breast augmentation (all very natural looking, no Pammy Lees in my circle)- in every single case, their husband's were fine with their boob size before the surgery, and a few (of the men) have confided to me that they miss the feeling of natural breast. I am a member of the small tit/big ass club, I love being able to go around sans bra.
