Well since Andrey has been so kind as to give me a wonderful PS gifty, now I get to start on my diamond reset sooner than I thought! :appl:

But this means I need to make a decision!! :errrr:

And I am now torn.

Halo or Three-stone or another ring?

1. Halo would be a cushion shaped halo with a plain shank a la the Guinevere at Whiteflash: http://www.whiteflash.com/engagemen...ngs/guinevere-diamond-engagement-ring-180.htm Cost to me: about $500.

Pros: Unique and unusual (where I live), bigger looking diamond ;)) , cushion shape which I also like a lot
Cons: Delicacy of pave, potential contrast with my J color center might be unappealing

2. Three stone would be with .33ct sides and in a setting probably like Yssies: http://www.whiteflash.com/engagement-rings/three-stone/butterflies-3-stone-engagement-ring-230.htm Cost to me: about $1300

Pros: BLING BLING finger coverage, indestructible setting, classic, much loved by me
Cons: Boring? My main worry is that this is such a simple design. Would I miss the solitaire? Would three stones detract from my diamond?

3. Or I can buy an AV round or cushion like this: http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/7725/ and set it in an etoile style ring like this: http://www.whiteflash.com/engagemen...f-bezel-heavy-shank-diamond-solitaire-293.htm or halo. Then I keep my honkin' solitaire and have a ring for casual wear. Cost to me: About $1300

Pros: I hunger for an AV diamond, love a more casual etoile type ring I can wear on more casual days ;)) and when changing poopy diapers
Cons: Will I regret not resetting my bigger diamond? Will I get as much wear out of a second ring as I think I will?

Thoughts?

Okay, I'm torn between 2 and 3.

#2: Three stone is completely classic and classy!! This would be gorgeous AND timeless! And talk about wonderful finger coverage. I love that setting and cannot see you regretting it ever!

#3: People may roll their eyes at me, but I love the idea of having a casual ering for those low key days. I also like wide, heavy rings that double as ering/w ring, and I'm head over heals about the etoile. It is on my long term wishlist. And dontcha know I'd set that puppy with exactly the same kind of stone!!

Lot's of help, I know. But I wanted to weigh in and take another opportunity to tell you CONGRATULATIONS! and thanks for all the hard work you've put into PS. You are definitely a "value added" poster!

Three stone :) I have seen you comment that you really like the three-stone look often so go for it! It will give great finger coverage and is classic. If it is 'too boring' perhaps you can get a simple three-stone setting now and then upgrade into a more unique setting? I remember in your three-stone thread you posted a fabulous Durnell bezel setting :)

It seems like it would be so nice to have a casual ring for low-key days. AVCs are gorgeous, and I love the etoile setting. If it turns out you don't wear it that much, you can always have it resized for a RHR.

I think a reset into a cushion halo, though charming, is a bit trendy right now and likely to look dated in a few years time. The thought of melee clash makes me cringe. Adding sidestones could take away some of your solitaire's oomph.

Three stone a la yssie!

Coz I got one already :Up_to_something:

I haven't started a thread yet (still to take decent photos) nor can I post a pic from my iPhone but I posted a crappy iPhone photo of the ring on this thread:

https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/pics-advice-request.152039/

Do it do it do it!

Rosetta I am tempted to ignore you until you post proper photos, since it is mean to tease like that with a ring like that. Remind me, what size are the side stones? Love those proportions but wonder if it will look as purdy with my "smaller" 1.7ct center.

aaaaaand here we go again :cheeky:

I vote threestone. And not just because I'm biased.

1. I really, honestly, truly think the performance difference between melee and your centrestone will drive you nuts w/ a halo - especially since you are already aware that it is a possibility *and* you have noticed that same effect with your eternity, which has significantly larger stones. If you reset in a halo though, you can't just remove your eternity band for a few days..
Plus, I can't help but wonder how much busy intricate design w/ lots of melee + poopy diapers = potential for :knockout: :knockout:

2. More rings are what anniversaries are for :halo: And you could always do this bit by bit as a long-term project - get the stone, find the perfect setting on sale or auction somewhere... mostly I'm just much more interested in getting that gorgeously stunningly beautiful stone out of a 'temp' and *home*, whatever home is!

3. I'm beyond flattered that you are considering my setting! But, I have to say that IRL it's very delicate, dainty, and 'flowy' - and from your previous threads I get the feeling that you prefer chunkier, bolder designs. I really think that trellises are one of those love/hate things - you either love them and find them romantic, or you think they're overdone and poncey, y'know?

Maybe buy a cheapie/fake threestone & cushion halo and 7.5mm cz studs, and go at it w/ pliers?

Three stone.

I vaguely remember you saying (in another thread) that you'd gone to Tiffany to compare which you liked more on your hand (three-stone v. halo), and the three-stone won hands down. Am I remembering correctly, or do I just sound like a creepy Dreamer stalker? :rodent:

The etoile-a-like option sounds like a good one, too, but the three stone is still casual enough and easy to clean, exposure to diapers and all. ;)

Three-stone! I'm a newbie here and even I know you have wanted a three-stone for a while now. :)

I just can't see a halo ring being all that practical, and if you're changing poopy diapers and such, I'd want practical, too. Halo'd rings always look pretty "dressy" to me, as well. I'm not the type to wear a halo'd ring to the gym or just hanging around the house, for instance (but maybe you are). But I do admit that my mindset is more toward simply designed things, including rings.

I love the etoile look and actually considered that setting for my diamond (and I still think about it). And I get that there might be times you'd want a more casual ring. But ... you've spent a good deal on your stone already, and you love it. I feel the same way about mine and therefore I want to wear it as much as possible (and also because I am determined that I will not have jewelry "just sitting there" any more!)

I had no idea that you'd received a gift from PS (didn't even know there were gifts until I read something in the Hangout section). I now see that it's posted above and I just didn't see it. Congratulations!! I always enjoy reading your posts and your advice and suggestions are very good. You are a real asset to PS!

Dreamer I hope you don't mind my adding my two cents. I'm not a frequent poster, but I am a regular visitor. :wink2:
If it were me, I'd go with #1. I love a cushion shaped halo, and the polished shank.
But, it's not me, it's you, and from what I remember, you are a three-stone lover. Go for what you know you want! And, besides, Yssie's ring is GORGEOUS.

Judging from you past posts, you have always seem to be more drawn to the 3 stone. I think your center stone can be the star as long as there is a good amount of contrast between the size of the center stone and the side stones (like Yessie's ring but on the appropriate scale for your stone).

The halo would be my second choice, it would give you the finger coverage, but I am not sure how practical it is to have pave with small children. Than again I work with small children and have had no problems with my pave wedding band, but it has only been 2 months. You do have a sensitive eye, so I think your concern with the different colors of the center stone and halo is valid.

The AVC is a nice thought, but I am concerned you will want to start upgrading that too :cheeky:. Plus, you have been talking about upgrading your setting for months. I have not seen you talk as much about smaller side projects.

I will be watching this tread. I am so excited to see what you do.

Hee hee hee.. Yssie said "Poncy".

Hmmmm... my first love was the Lucida style trellis, so I do like that style. But I have not seen it in person in a three stone. There are simpler settings, like the Trois Brillent that I like a lot: http://www.whiteflash.com/engagemen...rois-brillant-diamond-engagement-ring-846.htm I have tried a very similar one in person and really liked the look.

But on your ring, what sort of floats my boat is the six prongs on the center, which I think makes the diamond look bigger to boot 8)

Hmmm, Tis a thought. I would not want to go into it thinking I would change the setting, but having that option could be a good "anxiety relief"!

Cringe, yes it sort of makes me feel like that too :errrr:

Oh, it does!

Kinda makes up for the fact that the sidestones make it look smaller...

First of all, congrats DD! You deserve it! I may have only joined end of June, but lurked months prior and I KNOW how torn you have been over this very issue.

I am voting for #2 for a few reasons:

First of all, you have been talking about a three stone for what seems like forever...ok maybe just months....but you get what I mean. I think you will have the bling and finger coverage you have been craving. My thought is that you could get yourself the stones now with the gift money... and christmas or anniversary have it all reset. MY reason for the 3 stone is that IF after you have the three stone and decide it detracts from your Ering and what to go back to solitaire- you can put it back in your setting and keep the side stones as earrings, or trade them in (could that money be put towards a new setting or stones only????...if you would trade them for a setting you could then get your halo- if not...you could get your AVC)

I too love the halo cushion shape...my concerns are: delicate pave... the more I hear about the delicateness of pave- regarding cleaning, hitting your hand on things, etc, makes me not exactly want one, and happy I went with a prong set band instead. Also the color contrast. I know you embrace the J color stone, but I recall you embracing a K for a while until the color got to you. I fear that maybe the contract of whiter melee will over time make you feel differently about your beloved J. Also- if you ever decided to go with a three stone years down the road you would have an empty setting that you wouldn't be able to use unless you bought another stone for it.... hence added cost... and back at square one with the bigger financial cost in the end of funding 2 new stones and a new setting.

As for the etoile style AVC... I love the idea... but wonder if in the end, you will be wishing you blinged up your Ering. You still have your original ERing (emerald cut sapphire I believe) and that can be your less blingy ring that you wear. Just a thought.

This is truly hard.... I would want all three things myself! Great problem to be faced with! :appl: :appl:

I vote three-stone as well. For one, it's gorgeous and you've been talking about it for a while. Plus, imagine the finger coverage!

Would you wear the more casual AVC? Yes, you will at times.... but maybe not as often as you'd think. You're already changing poopy diapers with your lovely large J (or you've figured out a system for dealing with your ring). I don't think a three-stone would be any less manageable than a poopy AVC.

To upgrade your J to a three-stone, I think, is a real upgrade to the quality of what you have and more importantly, love. On the other hand, an AVC gives you more quantity - but it spreads your love and attention (although there's plenty to love about an AVC).

I find regardless of how beautiful my other pieces are - a favoured piece of jewelry will be worn often, if not worn most or all of the time. The rest sit in a sad, lonely case until I decide to make time for it. Of course, once in a while, they're good to satiate an immediate need for something different but I find I return to the favourites pretty quickly.

Personally, I would spend the money to make my favourite even more favoured and loved by me. I don't think you'll regret loving your J now even more when you look down at your J and his buddies.

Hi Dreamer,

I vote for the 3 stone too!! I have seen you mention it a number of times in your other threads....I really like the halo too, but not as much...And as for the etoile- nice option- but I'm afraid you will regret not having reset your e-ring. Cant wait to see what you choose- I know no matter what it will be GORGEOUS!!!!

Congratulations DD and yet again I am realizing how similar our tastes our.. I wonder if it's the Canadian connection :wink2: I've been eying the Guinevere as well and really love the cushion halo look. But I also echo everyone's observation that you've been pondering over a 3 stone in your recent posts. I can't blame you.. I was never a 3 stone gal til I saw Yssie's ring. So I guess my vote goes to #2 with #1 a close second

Three stone!!!!! You have wanted it for sooo long! You won't rest easy till it's yours!!!!!

I'm going to vote for the three stone ring. I know you have mentioned this option many times. In buying sidestones, you can get them in the color you want or have so there is no looking for differences in color like you might be tempted to with the halo. You mention that it would be a substantial setting and it would - also beautiful!

I don't think that a RHR will be as fulfilling for you as resetting your ering. This has been planned for sometime in the future and thanks to PS, the future is now! I'm sure WF would be able to do a mock up setting of what your size stone and the sidestones would look like giving you a better idea of proportions.

That's just my opinion though - good luck with whatever you decide to do!

Three stone, because that is what will make you the happiest! I know you've toyed around with the idea of a halo before, but I think deep down your true love is a three stone ring.

I vote for the August Vintage cushion in the etoile setting: I think I've seen you talk about that almost as much as you have about the three-stone. It strikes me as being nice to have an alternative for days when you're being hard on your hands, or want a different look ... and, also, if your hands are relatively close in size, you can wear it as a RHR on days when you want to be really fancy. :rodent:

Additionally, and this may be a weird quirk of mine ... I sort of want my wedding set to be just between me and my husband, KWIM? If you get the separate ring, every time you look at it, you'll think of PS, and your friends here, and all that. It keep things clearly delineated in a nice way, I think ....

Three stone.

You've tried on the halo before and ended up loving the three stone more. Now here's your chance and to do it sooner than you anticipated! And while the AV in an Etoile would be gorgeous, I think you'll end up regretting not having put that money into finishing up what you started with your e-ring.

I don't share that quirk ::)

I am leaning towards "one ring to rule them all"... thinking about it, the main reason I sold my three stone was that I did not like having one ring languishing in my ring box.

EB You recall correctly, thanks for the reminder. Every time I have tried on a three stone I have thought

KaeKae Good points. I do wonder though if I would become a halo gal if I owned one??

Ltl Thanks for the input, any wedding pictures posted yet??

AMysBling Yes, it has been more than a few months that I have talked about a three-stone, I think it has been on my radar from day one.

Iota I feel the same way completely. I hate an expensive ring sitting in the drawer! :nono: You are convincing me.

Dani I also think that if I do not spend this boon on my e-ring I might regret it later. Good point!

agapitor Ahh there are so many settings, it is hard not to want them all, eh?

Lizzyann You are probably right!

MGR Your avatar is convincing me :Up_to_something:

Laila When will your reset be here??

Feb I think you are right...

No problem. Yes, I put wedding photos up in the BWW thread last week  . I was even bold enough to put some of my face up.

After reading the other posts, my vote still goes to the 3 stone.
