You know what, I’ve seen this ring. Adam showed it to me, I knew it looked familiar because of the reflection of the inclusion around 3 o’clock. Adam priced this at just above 48K and couldn’t come down on the price.

IF it still looks interesting to you, you could contact J Birbach directly. Adam may have had it out on memo. This seems to happen a lot in NYC. Not sure if this is the case here, but it doesn’t hurt to ask.

I was going to say the same! Contact the seller J Birbach in case they “own”’ the stone.

I know where you're coming from with you about overthinking it -- that's exactly what I wanted to *avoid* for my e-ring. I've been on PS for a long time, and learned an incredible amount here. There have been many projects where I've loved getting analytical, and I have much appreciation for modern superideals (my studs and necklace from BGD are amazing!).

For my e-ring, though, I wanted it to be an emotional choice. I wanted to find a stone that I loved on sight, and I hoped to find that in a true antique piece because I think there is something really special about a piece made by hand before the advent of modern technology. I was so thrilled to find mine! She is in her original art deco setting, and an added bonus, the maker's mark for Rubel Freres is still clear -- the first piece of jewelry my SO bought for me was from VCA, and the historical ties between the houses just made the whole thing felt meant to be :)

Sorry to threadjack, but would you mind sharing the specs of your incredible e-ring?

Hi, that is correct regarding the 4.9. It is a spectacular stone and maybe you want to contact the owner directly. We own 99% of our stones but that one we do not. I don't want you to miss the opportunity if you love it. Best, -a-

Thank you! She's from Jack Weir & Sons :)

@sweetpea&babycorn sorry to have taken your thread on a tangent, but I hope my experience gives you some encouragement to go with your gut!

@CircularBrilliant it's GORGEOUS, and I'm so glad you love it! This is totally related, so not a tangent at all, and I'm so glad you shared the details!

I don't mean to come off as rude, but what about it would make it "imperfect" it seems to perform beautifully to my eyes, and agree with @Kim N that it's incredible!

Thank you for commenting on this Adam. It's my no means a criticism of you! I don't know how the market works but I know stones can get passed around. Just funny that it came back around to me, maybe it's a sign...

Absolutely! I just happen to stumble upon this post and I want you to be able to buy the stone if it's the right one for you. I can personally tell you it is stunning! -a-

Thank you :-) She's perfect to me, but someone else might think the symmetry (G) or polish level (VG) aren't to their standards, or that she's too deep/has too big of a table, or that she doesn't have the wider petal-like facets that are so sought after, etc. I often love digging into the details and taking a critical eye to my purchases, but I really didn't want to for my e-ring -- I think that at some point, if you focus too much on what you could find to criticize, it can wind up destroying your ability to appreciate something beautiful.

Btw, this is truly not meant to be a dig of any kind against someone taking a more analytical approach to e-ring shopping! As someone who combs through reviews and weighs out options for nearly every purchase in my life, I am almost always in that camp. But recognizing that I can second-guess myself endlessly and wind up diminishing my own joy, I wanted to do things differently for my e-ring. Trusting my gut just "fit" better for what I wanted as a symbol of our relationship.

She's absolutely stunning, CircularBrilliant. Please consider starting a thread for her, as I'm sure I'm not the only one who would love to see more photos!

Another PSer who I trust a ton when it comes to old cuts had recommended this stone. It’s OEC not OMC and fits your parameters and budget (it’s O-P color but you said you might go that low). She didn’t buy it bc she went bigger.

Thank you, M. I saw this as well. I spent a while trying to get myself to love it, though. It's insanely well priced and pretty overall, it just didn't speak to me, especially compared to the two I'm strongly considering.

You took the words right out of my mouth and heart! I do feel like I'm getting to the point of diminishing the joy in this with all the overthinking, and we're similar in researching everything, so it's just a process that I'm used to, but at some point it does get to a point where decisions need to be made.

When I was in school, I didn't have a car, so had to rely on rides to get to the grocery store. One of my friends told me she would never take me again after she found me standing in the tea aisle reading reviews on the different types of green tea available lol

I wanted to provide an update:

I saw the 4.58 via Zoom and we had a hard time getting the camera to stay consistently focused on the stone, but overall I liked it but not sure if I love it. Grace is going to send another video to me tomorrow. It does have beautiful chunky flashes of light without any dead spots, but the pattern seems a little messy under the table. It is a tiny bit wonky but I didn’t think it was obvious.

I asked for one more video of the OMC, asking the seller to showcase it in natural light and focus on displaying the facet pattern under the table. If it still sings to me like it did before, I think I’m going to go for it. The more I listen to my gut, the more I think this is my perfectly imperfect stone.

The 4.95 ct stone loose is way out of my price range, they’re asking for nearly 53K.

Wow! That’s not shaving much off. Prices are a bit crazy right now. I feel like you’ll have more negotiating power in January/ February, but you have to go with your gut.

Dear @sweetpea&babycorn,

I am late to this thread but would like to say go with your gut. It won't steer you wrong. And secondly, and perhaps most importantly, do NOT settle. Just don't. Your stone is out there.

Whether it is this "perfectly imperfect" OMC or another. Do not settle. Listen to your gut and your heart. And of course we are all different but when I saw Bubbalah I just knew. I couldn't pull the trigger at that time because of sticker shock and I wasn't mentally prepared to spend that much money. Fast forward a few years and she became available again and Grace let me know and well the rest is Bubbalahistory. I wasn't letting her get away from me again.

All this to say follow your heart and only get her if she makes your heart sing. Otherwise your stone *is* out there. It's not a race. It's a journey in which you will end up with the HG stone of your blingy dreams. To that end wishing you much luck and much love. I cannot wait to see the diamond of your dreams. Old cuts are (IMO) the dreamiest of all. ❤️

Thank you Missy! I appreciate the encouragement and fine advice. Bubbalah is one in a million, and it’s perfect on you. You have exquisite taste for antique stones, I can never get enough of your shared bling candy!

With that said, I’m going forward with the OMC purchase. I was sent these photos, and some more videos. The videos we sent via IG so I have no idea how to save them to share but after seeing them I feel very comfortable moving forward with my purchase. It has everything I’m looking for and I can’t wait to wear it!

So excited for you!!!

That is gorgeous and HUGE! Can’t wait to see it when it’s set and on your finger!! Congratulations :D

Mazel Tov! So happy for you!!!! Wear her in good health and chunkalicious blingy joy!!!!

Ohh! So excited for you! How do you think you will set her?

Beautiful! Is this the second one in the start of the thread or is it JbG?

Thank you! The second video sold me, and I don’t feel at all like I’m settling.
I preemptively reached out the DK who made a beautiful RHR with a small heart shaped champagne diamond, who preemptively provided me sketches lol. I’m going with a two tone bezel solitaire with platinum head and 14K rose gold band.
