Help! Round Center and Heart Side Stones

DK did this wrap and it turned out great. I don't recall who it belongs to but I believe it was a PSer. Make sure to click through until the last photo. I think you could ask if a wrap could be made for your existing setting with hearts which gives you the option of your solitaire or the three stone.

This is definitely an idea to consider!! I wonder how comfortable it is or if it flops apart when you wear it?

I’m here for the heart ring! Go for it.
The worst thing would be that you change your mind later and reuse the hearts for a different project.

So true! I have a pink sapphire they would be gorgeous with!

I love all of those rings above with side pears! The pears are not as wide as the hearts and do not blend in with the center stone. I did note that at least two of those people later changed their rings and no longer have the 3 stone with pears, though!

I feel like if I go with pears I should have LM do it. After perusing his website and social media, he has done the round/pear setting countless times, and it always turns out perfection, no matter what size! He's got it down to a science. But I really love DK and am partial towards him. And I would prefer to have something a little different for the basket like a trellis pattern. Who would you recommend?

OK, I'm really torn and feel like I could go either way and be happy. And the wrap is an interesting idea as well.

I just purchased a 3 carat round with pear sides (cz and silver) from Etsy, and I am going to have someone make a round with heart sides tester for me as well. I want to make the right decision, and this will give me an idea of what to expect! I just can't decide!

A trellis gallery is a totally different design from baskets!! That’s not a minor change.

Both Leon and Steven Kirsch do beautiful trellises. Have you seen @LLJsmom’s trellis? Her threestone is all rounds, so not exactly what you’re looking for, but IMO the mount (by SK) is as perfect as any trellis could ever be

Why not do a 3d print mockup to see if this is going to work out for you? I think someone did that in other thread.

I feel that the design is a very personal thing.. For instance.. My bro and husband was very sure that having a halo will take away the attention of the centre stone. Surprise surprise.. Once they saw it in real life.. They changed their mind immediately.

I love the cubby hearts and MRB combination from what I see...vs pears and MRB.. I will never consider pears and MRB combo.. But it is just me.

Yes! That's the one. I must have imagined the emeralds. Thank you for finding it :)

HI @acezarra you didn’t imagine the emerald wrap it’s @meely who created it with DK https://www.pricescope.com/community/posts/5008558

Oh yes that was me. Here are some very bad photos to try and show what it looks like. Totally different style of course. I love it and how versatile it makes my ring. Some negatives are that it order for it to look right your diamond has to be set a little higher, it means you cannot have such big side stones and occasionally it slips so there is a slight gap I imagine finger shape would play a role in that.

Oh that is gorgeous!! It looks like it sits flush with a wedding ring? @LLJsmom

Oh this is stunning and definitely something to consider! I was concerned about the slippage and how the two pieces stay together. My rings never really stay put! Is there a way to lock or snap them together?

I think maybe @motownmama has one that secures. I think Caysie from cvb might have done some patented wrap designs, feel like they might have had some nifty system to keep them in place. Mine just stays in place (for the most part) but one that firmly fixes would be the ideal.

I love your ring, I love the heart idea, and I loved reading your justification in the OP.

I will get shouted down (and probably for good reason) but I think your solitaire is too big -- relative to you finger size -- to capitalize on good-sized heart side stones. Or really any side stones, unless they are eclipsed by the crown and butted up against the pavilion.

I worry that if they are the scale of your inspo photos, they will be wrapping around the sides of your finger and will not be the elegant accent that we all envision.

This may be the one case where smaller wins, imo.

+1 and maybe we can check if @LilAlex has a point with a simple calculation.

Your ACA is about 9.3mm wide, and if we add two 6.0 mm side stones, we arrive at 21.3mm of total real estate required. That's not counting the width of the protective prongs you will need at the tips of either hearts or pears.

The inside width of a size 5.5 ring is 16.1mm, if we go with a 2.0mm thick shank, we arrive at 20.1mm of total available real estate. That's using 100% of the real estate, and my guess is that for a comfortable fit you'll likely want to use only about 18.0mm.

@CharlotteYork Sorry but it does look like 4.0mm side stones would be about the biggest you could fit comfortably on your beautiful size 5.5 finger.

If you are fully committed to larger sides, then my advice would be to have DKJ do a CAD for you before you buy the stones. :mrgreen2:

Hi! The skinny plain band fits almost flush given the base of the trellis is not a straight line. It’s close enough for me. Steven made the setting medium height I would say. It’s plenty high enough that there is no diamond to diamond contact with any band I wear next to it. I think that is key. The height of this 3 stone setting. My ring a size 5 but I KNOW I can do a 3 carat in the center WITH the one plus carat sides I have due to the height he’s made it. I can tell just by looking at the profile. And even before he worked on it, I talked to him about the size of my stones and the size of my finger. He told me it could be done and Proceeded. I am sure he would do that with any three stone project. You will also notice the side stones are set close to level with my center stone, not tucked way under. I left that entirely up to him. If you work with him, discuss how you “think” you like it and ask pros and cons and if it’s possible. I thought I wanted the sides more tucked because this gives the ring a “bigger” look but as I’m wearing it now I appreciate the bigger look. Ya know…DSS sets in.
I also saw a 3 carat with one carat sides that Steven made. He sent me a video. It looked amazing and he did it for a size 6. I bet money he could do it for a 5.5.
I wouldn’t worry about there not being enough room. There is extra horizontal room on my finger now. I would go up to a 3 carat if the right stone came along. And ask Steven to make a new three stone trellis setting. I love this.

Here are pics of my ring in my size 5 finger. I wanted you to see the extra real estate on my finger to show you there is room for a 3 carat with 6.5ish sides. My sides are 1.2 and 1.1 carats each. At first glance from top down it looks filled up. But when you look at the sides there is plenty of mm available. And my ring still twirls but just not as much as a solitaire.

One thing to add here - the stones’ girdles are forming a circle with a larger circumference and larger diameter than the band of the ring, because the stones are sitting on top of the band, so if you factor this depth in you actually gain quite a bit more usable horizontal space :))

CADs before buying sides are a fantastic idea, if feasible, and worth spending extra on.

Okay, I LOVE THIS. Maybe I will make a heart ring guard now. I do see the points made re: pear diamonds, but I love heart diamonds so... LOL who am I kidding I love them all. I totally love how you said "romantic little secret," that is how I felt before reading the post in its entirety.

Can't wait to see how it turns out!

What about a wrap or guard? I am not sure what they are called. I believe that a pricescoper recently had one made with emeralds I think, by SK or DK? That way you could keep your solitaire mounted and add this for flare when you are feeling the need for change.

We need more pics of wraps and guards here on PS.

One comment about heart sides. I may be the one party pooper here but I say just let the idea simmer for at least six months. Not saying you don’t love the idea of heart sides now but give it some time to make sure it’s not just an “infatuation”. You don’t want to wake up a year later and figure out that you loved it for that 1-1.5 years but that you’re past the “love” stage and don’t see yourself wearing it forever. Or even 3 years. Or of course you could love it forever or you don’t care and you can change it again then if finances permit.

Thank you, this is so helpful! I figured if @KristyDarling can fit a 3.56 carat round center with 1.14 tcw pear sides on her 3.5 sized finger and still look elegant, I can fit a 3.10 round with two .50 carat hearts on my 5.25, no problem!

A near flush fit would be perfect... I don't need an exact flush fit, but I do want it closer than the traditional basket! Yours is GORGEOUS!!!

I'll definitely give this more thought... I've ordered two silver/cz mock-ups on Etsy so I can wear them around the house and get a rough idea for what the end product will look like on my hand. I've been wanting a change for about a year now, and I've gone through several ideas of what to do. One I ruled out after having a mock up made on Etsy, so that was certainly worth while! But if I do move forward with this, I will definitely keep my solitaire mount. It would be easy enough to switch back, and I could use the hearts as sides with another stone. And I also want to further investigate the idea of a jacket. That might be a good solution!

Thank you!! I do kind of have my heart set on the hearts! LOL! And probably no one would ever even guess that they are hearts, but I would adore the sentiment. I haven't completely ruled out pears.... I just need to think it all through a little more. And I do love the idea of a jacket, I'll investigate that further!

Charlotte,

I thought I would hate the idea. But on the mock-up it looks like pears to me.

And I actually like it a lot. It’s a sweet sentiment. I think picking the right designer is key and it will look stunning

I would reach out to Victor Canera as well. Steven Kirsch is another that does some gorgeous rings.

I reached out to Victor's office today and was told they "definitely do not" do custom work on ACA diamonds. Well, I guess that answers that! I'll reach out to Steven too, but I really have a strong comfort level with David.

Thank you so much!! I think this is the way to go, I just absolutely love it! I'm having trouble finding a pair of hearts though. Blue Nile told me it is basically impossible unless I have them custom cut.

My personal preference is for the (smaller) hearts. To my eye, the (comparatively) long pears visually look like wings attached to the center stone.

That is what I'm leaning towards!! I also love the way they snug up to the center stone. :)

I’m just here to encourage you that there is *plenty* of room on your finger.

This is me trying on a 3.2 carat center with 2.3 carat *each* sides. I absolutely loved it and have been thinking about it for two years. Size 6.5 finger.

Would you ever consider going with ACAs as side stones? It would be amazing and depending on how they were set you could get a similar snugged-up look to what you like in the hearts.

I see no downside to this ring whatsoever :P2

OMG, this is GORGEOUS!!! :kiss2: I would love to have an antique three stone OEC right hand ring someday!! I do love three rounds... But there is just something about those hearts for me!

@CharlotteYork i think your plan sounds romantically gorgeous. When my husband and I were young 20 year olds first discussing marriage I tried on a 10ct heart amethyst and 31yrs later I can still remember how beautiful it was (sadly it took us another 14yrs to actually get married and by then we went with a marquise but I still have a soft spot for heart shaped stones).
