i would still be wearing my 1.47 ct rb solitaire ring.

time for Starbuck!!

wait wait wait....there''s a thread for 5+ carats?! ...um...i got to...um..*drool*

seriously though, i think i would swoon more over a fancy cut diamond as well, not to say i won''t swoon over a large RB but i feel its just not as common to see a really large cushion or asscher for example.

I remeber that thread Phoenix. Actually I didn''t write anything, because I was hoping for clearer pictures to come

Hmm....but now that you say it, I think, perhaps that 5 carat reaches the "in real life I will never own one" because I think as an RB, of that size is huge, and 99.9% of people where I live will honestly say it was fake regardless of what I say AND well let''s be honest, that''s more money then I would ever spent on jewelery.

But 3 carats...I can forsee that. It''s a realistic aspiration, so maybe that''s why I get more excited when I see a thread with 3+ carat. I am a vulture for the 3.5 carat RB range. I could look at that for YEARS

I remember going into Tiffany''s and being excited about trying on rings in different sizes. It is such a good place to go to compare sizes as they had all of their 2 ct. rings grouped together, then the next group was 2.5, etc. Most jewelry stores don''t have their rings grouped like that. Anyway, I was dying to see what a three carat stone would look like on me. What a disappointment! On my hand, it looked ridiculous and I have a center stone that is 2.22 in a three stone setting. Hard to imagine that a size jump like that would just be too over the top but it was. It just looked horrible. I tried on a larger three stone ring and it looked much better - I guess because the stones were more spread out over the finger instead of one large rock. It really made me rethink anymore upgrades - I''ll never say never of course but to jump to 2.5 would probably be too much money for not alot of size. I always thought a three carat ring would be the dream but it''s really not for me. I walked out feeling like I had been slapped in the face!

Funny thing though - you know how sometimes your ring can look really big on you and then some days it looks like it has shrunk down to nothing? Hubby and I were going out recently and I said, "Does my ring still look big to you?" He quickly answered, "Yes, and it does to everyone else too!" I had to laugh at his quick response. He reminded me that I had tried on larger rings and not liked them. It''s true and I have found much more satisfaction in my ring now that I know something bigger does not necessarily look better. In these economic times, I feel very fortunate to have what I have and am very thankful that I''m not just starting out! For years I focused my play money on another upgrade. Not so anymore!

If I could rock one, yes I would love it. But I can''t , I have tiny hands, Remember when you were a kid and put your hand up to your freind''s hand? I always had the smallest, so it would like HUGE on me. Good thing, cause if I had nice long fingers, I would go bigger. DH says thank god for that. LOL!!!

Another thing, I have never had that diamond shrinkage syndrome that many people here have had. I put my erng on every morning, and think wow...

But to answer your question, I love 5 carat rocks. I have a friend that has a 7 carat, it''s breathtaking. She searched for 2 years to find the one. I must say, it''s gorgeous.
Well I guess you do! I would too, cuz it''s big and gorgimous.

I think it''s all about what your lifestyle is and what your circle of friends have and your hands. I don''t have much real estate on my short fingers so anything over 2 cts looks really silly. In my neck of the woods very few people have anything over .75 ct. If they do, everyone thinks it''s fake

. Need to hang out with a more elite crowd I guess. I don''t know anybody who is into jewelry at all. They all are still in their YG ''80''s .5 carat solitaires (no upgrading except for me that I have ever heard of). I am in a wealthy suburb of Boston, so not in some remote country area either. I don''t see anything big in the supermarkets or other stores either. I''m sure in the big city it is very different.
This is the whole thing for me. If all the women around me wore upgraded rings, then sure, I''d be more comfortable wearing a larger stone. I am around some women who have gorgeous homes (worthy of being in a magazine) on the lake and in country club communities, yet they ALL wear their original small e-rings from when they were probably 21! Not everyone has heard of upgrades or multiple e-rings! Although there is one who wears what appears to be older diamonds in platinum, probably her mother''s. Most are under a carat. In fact, my one carat ring was larger than most of the girls had at the time I got married.

But for women who live in big cities or in the upper class world, I say, more power to them! I certainly am happy for people to be able to have and wear 3-10 carat stones!!! Thank you for sharing them with us! But as others have said, for those of us who don''t live in that world, we''d look like we were trying to be something we are not. And that goes back to what Ellen and MC were saying.

I absolutley adore looking at larger stones, and maybe one day it would be a possibility. But right now I don''t think it would be good. I kinda like the idea of having something to look forward to on say a 10/20/50 year anniversary and having an upgradeable diamond is something I''ve always thought would be neat. That''s my 0.02.

BUT if he were to offer me say a 5+ct pear/cushion. I wouldn''t turn it down!

Have you ever seen one with a solitaire? FYI, we''re ''chatting'' with Dancing Fire. Expect inanity.

Here is the link to some of my stuff. I don''t think that either of my stones [6.39 EC diamond and 6.89 RB] look ridiculously large [IMHO].
Your rings are beautiful; made even more spectactular by their classic settings that wonderfully showcase those incredible stones.

I couldn''t pull those rings off; but they are perfectly suited to you. I think we all naturally gravitate to those styles and sizes we can imagine ourselves wearing. There are several 2+ rings on PS that I definitely lust after!

I can''t say that I would really want to wear a 5+ carat RB everyday, so I would never buy one (though I wouldn''t refuse a gift!). I do think they are gorgeous, however.

On the other hand, as much as I love my current ring, my dream is to have a 5-carat , antique-cut cushion solitaire. I know that in my area, it would be out of place, and I know that many would probably think it was fake, but I also know that it would make me happy every day to look at it!

I'm with you fatafelice! (I

your ring, btw). A 5 carat round wouldn't get me goin' as much as a 5 carat antique cushion. It would be very out of place where I live, and probably look enormo on my size 4.25 finger, but I would still rock it. I do wonder if it might be distracting to have something that size on my finger. I'd probably be a total health hazard if my ring was that large and walk into lamp posts and crash my car when the sun hits my hand on the steering wheel.

hmm....no, i don''t think i''ve seen a one with a solitaire. But for what its worth, I''ve never seen any guy with any kind of solitaire.

Wow, ladies and gentlemen, thanks so much for your overwhelming responses, some of which are just too funny, tee hee

.

Thank you for some of the kind comments about my rings too. I do *LOVE* my rings, just wish my RB would be a little big bigger. At the moment or even in the far future, as mentioned, a *dream* 5ct (RB or EC) would be out of the question. A 4ct RB *might* be a more likely possibility, but again not any time real soon. I would totally ROCK that baby, which would look just fine on my chubby finger, LOL.

Diamond Fan, Diamante Blu, you ladies are my bling HEROES!! I'd love to go play in your bling boxes some time
