Are you in Oregon or Eastern Washington?

Not a good year for fires! I've been keeping an eye on one that burned (so far) 81,000 acres.

Oh no MyTaTas! I hope you stay safe and inside! How scary! We've had some bad air quality but not as bad as the smoke being so thick people having to use their headlights! I'll be thinking of you!

Oh Matata I'm so sorry. That is scarey to think about.

Thanks all. Although it's no fun breathing smokey air, I feel for those who are losing homes and lives due to this disaster. The Ashland Shakespeare Festival has cancelled outdoor performances. All outdoor activities scheduled for the area are cancelled. Reports are that a half million acres will burn before fires are contained. I flew over them on the way home from Europe on Sunday and it was scary to see. Winds are predicted to increase and we may have thunderstorms on Wednesday. Lightning is not what we need. Would be nice to get some regular rain to help the firefighters. They are heroes who are putting their lives on the line for all our sakes.

My mother just left heading north to WA from CA. She will be driving up 5. Will she run into the smoke?

Most definitely. It is thick between Medford to Eugene. Don't know what it's like beyond that. Air quality is hazardous all the way down to San Fran so she may be in smoke for a long time. If she has health/breathing issues, she may want to reevaluate her trip. However, winds are unpredictable and may blow some away from the area by the time she gets up here.

Thank you! I just called her and she is putting a news station on so she can decide what to do.

Stay safe!

I hope the winds are mild and bring in nothing but rain!

It's almost 1am and I'm sitting at the computer with my mind racing a million miles a minute. So stressed about the upcoming move and I have no idea why I'm letting something that I have no control over keep me up when I clearly can't function on less then 7 hours of sleep. I feel sorry for whoever sees me tomorrow before my coffee.

SB- is this your move to SK?

if so, don't worry! everything will work out. I've done it numerous times, twice.with the military. I can answer any concerns or questions you have!

What is SK? I'm not actually worried about the move just more where it will be. I hate the waiting game of once assignments open up then the 8 plus weeks till they give you some idea of where you are going too. We are semi lucky that we know it is between 2 places. One is stateside the other is overseas. As much as we really want to go overseas I would probably lose my job which being the main breadwinner for our family scares me. If I only had a crystal ball right?! ;))

Thanks Kelinas! This is move 6 for us with the military, but the last 4 we knew exactly what was happening way in advance because his training was so structured. I also think I'm more stressed becase the last time we move our DS was only 7 months old. Now we have 2 toddlers so just more factors involved with finding schools etc.

SK = South Korea?
I'm not sure.if.it.was you or.a different milspouse that was.headed to there.

actually I'm leaning towards the.other person, since they knew they.were headed to K16.
When I said two moves, that was dealing with Korea. I've moved numerous times with the military and I.completely understand the frustration when it comes to lack of orders, ESP knowing that nothing is ever set in stone, ever. Needs of the Army always trumps everything else :/
Well, even if I don't have any answers, I'm still here for you to vent to since I understand the.craptasticness!

Thank you Kalinas- it does feel SO MUCH better to just vent it out. And nope not SK. We did 3 years in Japan and loved it. We tried to go back but nothing opened up in Asia this time around, so if we go overseas it will be Europe. We would LOVE to live a few years in Europe but there are many cons like me loosing my job and of course uprooting our very young children away from family. The base in Europe is small and I'm not sure how family oriented it is. Plus it wouldn't be the greatest career move for my DH, but our #1 priority is living in overseas again and this might be our last opportunity. Not everyone will understand the decision we made with putting it at the top of our list. And truly it doesn't matter because they can send you anywhere- if it is on your list or not. I just hope August goes by quickly. Thank you again for letting me vent. I truly appreicate it.

And it was Armywife you were thinking of. Her family is moving to SK. :D

SB - I hope August goes quickly too, not just for you, but a lot for you! LOL! I think living in Europe would be great for your kids, even though it may seem hard. They will have such worldly experience! Do you know where in Europe it would be?

We are working on a bathroom remodel for our upstairs bathroom. Right now it is the size of most half baths, but it's a full bath squeezed into the space. Our shower is probably 3x3? We're expanding the bathroom into part of our office upstairs, which means our upstairs will officially be a master suite. We agreed that when we decide to have kids, we will pull permits to extend the downstairs to include two more bedrooms and a bathroom, extending the very small "hall" that is between the closet under the stairs and the guest room to go out to the south where we will add the rooms. SO started tearing the bathroom apart this week, and I'm so glad he did. Apparently this entire time there has been a small but efficient pipe leak behind the shower, and no one ever knew! So now we have to replace the walling and insulation. Thankfully the shower is small and the damage hasn't spread beyond the perimeter of just the shower area. But YIKES! We knew the bathroom had issues, I could tell because the upper part of the door looked like it had water damage, and the shower would drip if we turned on water downstairs. Now we can get all of these things updated an fixed. Now I just have to find a design I like for tiling and a new double vanity. We'll be extending the shower and the vanity wall by two feet into the next room. The other option was to take out space from our closet and that would be a negative if we ever do sell. So now we'll have a 3x5 shower, and room for a double vanity, which I'm incredibly excited about!

Sheesh, that was much more long winded than I intended!

I hope this month goes by quick for.you so you can at least get your pinpoint orders- or just orders in general. losing sleep over these stressful things are no good!

Sitting here taking care of an infant and wondering, what would I do without PS to entertain me at all hours of the day? I wish I could meet everyone I "know" online.

Pregcurious - Wish we could all have a giant PS meet and greet. Hope you had a nice evening!

Sarah - I can't imagine having to wait to find out where you'll move! Dust that its great news and will come quickly.

Pregcurious - congrats on the new baby! PS and iPhones are a lifesaver when feeding the babe, rocking the babe, bouncing the babe... Where are you located?

Got a few fun pieces on Etsy - super cheap ($30 total!) gold plate but cute:

I donated blood today! Feels awesome knowing that it helps someone :)
I almost wasnt allowed to donate but after reading through a long page of guidelines , I was deemed safe.

I donated whole blood, vs apheresis only because I didn't have 2hours to spare.
In 55 days though- I'm going to schedule it in so I can maximize my donation :)

Just Ginger that is amazing about the ballet! i can't wait for my DD to be old enough to appreciate it. I like going to plays, dances, operas etc so it will be fun when I can start that again.

RB- thank you! My patience is really at a breaking point. They are either sending us over seas (which I might loose my job but I would be thrilled to be back overseas :appl: ) or we are going to a state and a base I don't have any love for what so ever. Now they are saying we might not even hear till the end of October. Perhaps this is a sign I need to take up yoga. I hear learning to breathe correctly does wonders for stress and wanting to strangle ppl.

K- that is great you can donate! I tried years ago but they woudln't let me b/c my blood pressure was sooo low. You go!!!!! :appl: :appl: :appl:

I'd be calling down to the front desk begging to have my windows washed every day with that on the scaffold! :naughty:

Bah I yelled at a mom with her kids today.

Haven't posted a kitty dust thread but came home last night to a bloody cat under my bed. We rushed him to the emergency vet. He seemed OK other than his unexplained bloody paws so we went home and I set him up with food and litter in my bathroom. Then DH moved the bed so we could see what happened. Looked like a horror movie. Then kitty went into grand mail seizures (now I know its called a cluster seizure because it just kept on happening). Got him back to the emergency vet for a seizure watch where he will stay until we can get him to the neurologist on Monday.

So yelling at the mom...

We decided to go for a walk by the river to relax. Sat down by some ducks and started talking about kitty when a mom and her kids show up. The kids start throwing rocks at the ducks but she's on her phone and doesn't notice. Poor things thought it was food and actually swam towards the stones. DH asked the mom to tell her kids to stop and she freaked at him. Her kids are none of his business and what is he doing watching them anyway. Um they're on the edge of a river without supervision and we were there first anyway. We sit back down and the kids keep on throwing rocks. DH decides to try to explain (while still sitting next to me, never approached them) that the stones are hurting the ducks. The next thing we know the mother is freaking at him for talking to her kids. "My kids would never hurt anything" "you have no business near my kids" ( we were sitting there first and never got up!).

Finally I yelled at her for teaching her kids that harming animals is OK. People came over from the ice cream trick to watch.

Solo high strung, why did the bad mom have to be at the park today!

Eta: excuse the typos! Stressed me typing on my phone.
