I just wanna say -- the random comments thread

So I know October is Breast cancer awareness month but I'd like to throw out there that there are so many people affected with other types of cancer all year long.
I was recently matched as a platelet angel/donor to.a 4 year old suffering from leukemia- the radiation treatment deplete her body of whatever platelets she has. I do have a uncommon blood type (for the US) at least, and came to find out that this girl had 2 constant donors. these 2 come in on opposite weeks to try to extend the life of platelets and now that I've been added, we're hoping that she'll feel better and maybe even be able to home for a few days at a time.

long story short- go donate! you really would be saving a life!

*please excuse the no makeup, messy hair, and the closed eyes.*

Niel, I am sorry you are experiencing this. Not a fun feeling. Just ignore and carry on. Not everyone is going to mesh and some deal with it in perhaps a not so nice way. Try not to give her any more thought. (((hugs))).

So a weird thing happened yesterday. My dh got very lightheaded (he had eaten breakfast) and he almost blacked out on our (tandem) bike and we crashed because of that. Thank goodness he didn't get hurt though I got pretty banged up. Both knees all bloody and both shoulders black and blue and back bruised as well as my left elbow all cut up and bruised. I must have rolled when we fell. He lost control, we hit a pole went right and then left and then bam, crashed to the ground. It all happened like in slow motion and as the whole thing was happening I kept thinking my dh would regain control of the bike. I had no clue he was sort of blacking out.

We are OK but I am very concerned about what might be going on. About 10 years back he had a few of these lightheaded almost blacking out episodes and he wore a heart monitor for 24 (or was it 48?) hours but nothing showed up. So when we get back from vacation I am insisting he goes to our internist (like he doesn't have enough medical appointments lately :(( ) and now I am a bit nervous to get back on the bike but onward and forward. Though after the crash yesterday he felt OK and we continued with the biking (after tending to my many wounds LOL) and we cycled another 50 miles haha. Today I am in a bit more discomfort re my back and neck though. Not sure how my dh came out of the crash with two little cuts but thankful for that! ANd it could have been much worse-could you imagine if we crashed into a car! :errrr:

Missy - thank god you're ok! I don't have a clue to why your dh would have blacked out but that's so scary! I hope you recover from your injuries soon and that it's nothing major with your DH!.

Niel, I wouldn't pay the bully any mind. Most of the people ive come across are the sweetest people but some people thrive when demeaning others.
I think you are awesome :appl:

Missy glad you are back on the bike. 50 miles yikes you are a better woman than I am!! I'd be on the couch nursing my wounds. Hope hubby is ok. I'm no doctor so I won't even guess!

Wow, that's great. I wish I could do something like that. With my medical history I'm pretty sure I can't. My daughter signed up on some registry that I think is what you are referring to.
Blessings to you for being a true angel

the registry is called Be The Match, and it has to deal with Bone marrow. I'm on that regristry , but this is different.
Platelet donors are just donations of platelets that are made every 2 weeks. Plasma is every 4 weeks (and helps out burn/trauma patients) and whole blood is every 8 weeks. if you give whole blood, they will take the blood and pull it to 3 components- platelet, plasma and red blood cells. but from a point of whole blood, less than 1% is platelets :(sad So I went I'm with every intention of becoming a regular donar.
I just happened to be matched with s little girl who needs my platelets :)

Amazing!

I have such a strong phobia of needles, it was one of the primary reasons that I chose not to go down the path to medical school with the rest of my undergrad classmates.

However, with my new uni degree that I'm undertaking, I must do a 7 week stint of phlebotomy...in which we practice on each other. :errrr: Anyway, I'm very much hoping it gets me over my fear of needles so that I can contribute to the Red Cross with DH (who is a constant donor).

phlebotomy will definately make or break your fear.
most sticks are easy; my arms are a pain in ghe phlebotomist butt - one is a rolling vein, the other is the deepest hidden vein (which ill admit, it hurts when they stick me because they do have to go deep.

I have a fear of needles,.but.mine is silly because.its only hospital settings that terrify me Piercings and tattoos are fine! but for the greater good, I can suck it up

Kelinas -- What a great thing you are doing! I hope the little girl feels better and can get some time at home!

Niel -- I'm sorry. That is never a fun feeling to have. Don't let one person bother you. Keep on posting and enjoying!

Missy -- Yikes! I'm glad you are both reasonably okay. I hope your doctors can figure it out when you get home! Something like that could lead to things much worse than crashing a bicycle into a pole.
Not sure if it helps, but I had similar things (plus lots of on/off dizziness) for about a year. The specialists ran bunches of tests but couldn't find anything. Turned out to be a small exhaust leak in my car. Certain things can build up in your body and cause problems even when you aren't around the irritant. (NONE of my many doctors checked for anything like this!)

Thankfully, I have 'gorgeous' veins - so classmates who practice on me have no excuses! I still plan on buying 2 EMLA patches though, one for each arm. I'm such a sook.

Just looked up "EMLA patch" -- Why did no one tell me about these before!?!

Have you used these before? Do they work?

I've been known to black out at the mere suggestion that a doctor might consider taking a blood sample :nono:
My dr keeps sending reminders that she wanted a blood sample to check cholesterol and other stuff... 11 months ago.

I used one when I had a biopsy taken on the side of my nose. My surrounding nerves that hadn't been numbed conveyed the fact that SOMETHING was happening to my face, but no, I felt no pain. I had no idea he had done anything until the nurse started mopping up blood off the side of my face!

It's the same stuff they use in hospitals, only their's comes in a giant tube and they use sticky plastic wrap to put it on you. The last time I was put under, I felt the IV going in, it didn't feel nice, but it didn't hurt either - and that was a big needle, I felt sick looking at it.

I think "bully" is a strong word to use here...

I know I have some folks that don't love me based on things that happened on a FB page.. but you know what..life's short and I'm a big girl..

You are a big girl.. you do A LOT of posting on a number of places on here... I think you need to know you are going to rub some people the wrong way.. and others not so much...

We can't all love or even "like a little" everyone that posts... but.. this "I have a bully" just adds to the drama and stirs up more...

As I tell my 15 year old all the time..even now when she's dealing with healing and some people not coming to see her... put on your big girls pants and deal with it! Choose to let it bother you or choose to move on...and focus on what you need to do. So I would give you the same advice.. maybe examine the root cause decide if you want to change and if not.. ignore it and move on...but don't use it to stir the pot...

Yay Kelinas!! :appl: Several weeks ago PinkJewel commented on her brother who was looking for a donor to help him with his cancer treatment. I have had the honor of meeting PJ in real life- she is such a sweetheart. As a result I looked up how to become a donor and posted about Delete Blood Cancer.org. They will send you a kit to become a donor. I sent mine out just last week and I sincerely hope I get called up. When I was younger I would hear about children with cancer and of course it would move me, but now AS a mother I can't even imagine. Words can't describe how wonderful I think you are for volunteering and I know that little girl and her family thinks the world of you. :appl: :appl: :appl: :appl: :appl:

Missy how scarey!! I hope you are allright and the blackout with your DH was a bizarre random accurance!

Thank you Kelinas, Elisa, TooPatient, MayK and Sarah...we are good! We just got back from a 75 mile (woohoo) come back trip. :appl: I am sore from the bruising and I think I pulled a muscle in my chest area yesterday from the fall (either that or bruised a rib) but other than that just fine. Tomorrow I am calling our internist or the cardiologist for an appt for my dh when we return to NYC to get him checked out.

We were very fortunate we didn't get seriously injured yesterday and most important now is figuring out what is going on with my dh if anything and fixing it. Poor sweetie has had quite his share of health issues recently and though he is in relatively good health you just never know. I am not going to try to guess what might be going on and let the experts hopefully figure it out and keep him healthy!

TP- that's a scary story and thankfully you figured it out. I shudder to think what could have happened if you didn't!

Thanks MayK. It wasn't scary as it was happening and I think that's because the whole time I really thought my dh would regain control of the bike. I had no clue that he was almost blacking out so I wasn't nervous and just thought it was a momentary blip-like maybe we hit a pothole and we would just regain control. By the time I realized we were going to hit the pavement it was all a blur.

I always feel safe cycling with him (otherwise I never would have been tandeming with him all these years though today I kept asking him if he was OK while we were cycling cause I was a bit nervous!) and as I am sure you know being a fellow tandemer yourself you cannot tandem if you don't fully trust your partner. Mel at Tandem's East (where we got this most recent tandem) told us a tandem is a great predictor/tester of a relationship. Wherever you are going in your relationship a tandem will get you there faster. LOLOL and it is very true. As anyone who has been tandeming with the same partner surely knows!

Missy!!! That's sooo scary!! I'll be sending you positive thoughts and vibes! And if that doesn't work, tubs and tubs of bengay!

For what its worth, when I feel that someone is being mean to me, or I am being picked on, even though it doesn't feel good, I take it as an opportunity to reflect on my own actions. I try to figure out if there is something I am doing to cause it, instead of dismissing it on the actions of the other person. That's not to say that I let them slide or condone their actions, just that I've found that I typically have a part in it, and can learn about myself and try to change when this happens, instead of writing it off as bullying... :)) ;))

Wow, so much important stuff is being discussed that I don't even know where to start!

Missy, I am sending you prayers and positive thoughts. Sounds like it was scary and painful. Good for you both for persevering and getting out there to continue riding. You are now an official role model for me.

Kelinas: Well done! You deserve heaps of praise and applause; those of us who can should be as generous as you.

Finally, speaking as someone who hates needles (I was so afraid of shots growing up that I never had novocaine when having cavities filled - and I had 11 cavities!), I can attest to the efficacy of the numbing patches and ointments. Although I got pretty used to shots/needles when I had breast cancer and they were inevitable, I eventually had to have these regular shots in my stomach. The shot was for a subdural substance so it was given in a large needle, kind of like a metal straw, like one of those coffee stirrers. The chemo nurses hated giving the shots because in order to get it to go in, they had to jab really hard, which caused a lot of pain. They were even more bothered by it than I was, lol! So they started relying on those patches. Another thing they would do is spray on this freezing liquid (could it be liquid nitrogen or something?) until my skin was frozen solid, lol, then I didn't feel a thing! Either way, I say do what you have to do!

I'm sorry - I have noticed a bunch of pretty harsh comments floating around lately, including one directed at you. I'm sure it doesn't feel good to be on the receiving end of that sort of stuff. But - you have a wedding coming up and far more important things to be thinking about than one person with a bug about you. So - I'd try to just shrug it off and move on.

Niel, I read all your posts, and you are never anything but helpful and nice to people. You respond to posts that nobody else feels like dealing with and you go out of your way to offer suggestions and advice. I've seen someone be nasty to you in the past, and if I see it again I'm reporting it because that person is violating the agreement that is required when you sign up - basically, to be decent to each other. And I encourage you to report it the next time it happens, because that person is violating PS rules.

I don't think you're doing anything wrong, I don't think this is your fault, and frankly I'm sick of the occasional rudeness and nastiness I see here on PS just because someone has decided they don't like someone else. So immature. If a person has that much of an issue with you, he/she should just block you and be done with it.

I know I wouldn't appreciate being on the receiving end of this nonsense. You have the right to feel comfortable here.

Hang in there and try not to let this bother you too much - keep posting and just have fun - living well is the best revenge.

Both of my parents had cancerous lesions & tumors removed this year. Luckily it isn'tbad with them.
I also have 5 friends that have varying cancers, so this is just my little part to help them.

Niel - I'm sorry you're being made to feel this way. I think that sometimes people are that way, but sometimes too that things come out much harsher online than off. There have been times where I've felt that people did not personally like me, but in all actuality I was taking things a bit too hard and I actually had some to learn from those people. That being said, that isn't always the case, and I hope that you don't feel like you need to leave. I love reading your posts!!!! I think you contribute a lot to our little community!

Kelinas - Major kudos!!!

Missy - Thinking of you!

I'm finally getting over this bug I think. Much less congested today. I slept a lot yesterday.

Also we had something neat and kind of eerie happen this weekend. On Saturday, I decorated our front deck/stairs. We have a wooden deck at our front door with two steps leading up. I put the big spider web decorations around the exterior, with tiny spiders and some bigger one and chains for Halloween. Well, yesterday morning when we woke up, we found our entire back yard scattered with tiny spider webs in the grass!!! This has NEVER happened before! They were everywhere! I got a few pictures which I'll try to upload tonight from my phone. They were as intricate as big web, but just spread between the shoots of grass and very small, 2-4 inches in diameter, and all over the place. Now today, poof, they are gone. Isn't that strange!

So cool! Celebrating their own little Halloween a little early, lol! Can't wait to see the pics.

Sometimes i feel like I have a PS bully....

Usually she ignores all my posts, you know, will posts on everyones "SMTB thread but mine"

Then when she does post at me, its outright mean. A while back Im fairly certain she tried to get me off this site.

Thanks everyone. I didn't wanna "stir the pot" just this thread is a nice place to throw the random thought in. And I didn't want to make a whole thread about it. Just say I'm a little sick of it. Your right maybe bulling isn't the right word. Just someone being a jerk for no reason. I agree block me and leave it at that.

I wasn't going to try and defend myself as I wasn't going to give validation to a stupid comment. Just annoying some of the mean girl behavior.

Not everyone is going to get along. But no reason to go out of your way to be mean. I just don't get it. Its the internet?

You all are sweethearts. I'll get out of my pity party
