I would go nuts if that happened to me! I am so glad you found it.
My sapphire came loose once. I took it off as soon as I noticed it was loose and put it away. Turns out the prongs were shaved to thin, and I had to spend some money to have some work done to make the ring more secure.
And than the jeweler mutilated it.....but that is a different lesson

For the love of Lolliondo, get that puppy a custom setting TL. I was heartsick when I read your story. Next time, you might not be so lucky.
Everybody reading this should hold their rings up to their ears and gently tap the shank with your fingernail. A loose stone will rattle.

I'm glad there was a happy ending! Is it bad that I gasped and made this faceand then totally skipped paragraphs to see if you found it? I did go back and read the whole story once I knew tho.
The grocery store I was at is an enormous place and it was chock full of people. If I lost it there, bye bye spessieDate: 5/15/2010 12:33:35 AM

Whoa! What a ride and I''m glad you found it. It really is a one of a kind stone. Double, triple, maybe even fourple prongs for sure

perhaps a bezel is better for this particular stone TL?
I do recall, when I was having BG make my custom sapphire ring, they mentioned a couple times
that some of these precision cut stones are just not suited to prongs - that is why mine are quite heavy / substantial..
glad you found it, and in quite a funny way I must say!
Very good advice Mr. Ma Rae, and my jeweler did warn me (stupid meDate: 5/15/2010 5:58:37 AM

Wow, this is quite a story, happy to read you found the stone! It is indeed a very valuable lesson and many newbies could benefit from reading this thread. This is why it''s really important to have an experienced jeweller who''ll tell you about possible defects of the setting or the fact that a particular setting is a wrong choice for a chosen stone. Paying a bit more for services of a good jeweller is worth it when you look at what can happen and how much (not just financially) you can lose.
P. S. For those who don''t know - a stone that''s a bit loose in the setting will move around if you put your finger on top of it''s table and try to move it. If you notice this, get it checked ASAP.
