That spessie in my mom's ammie JKT necklace, its a Loliondo and its color is amazing just like yours (but only a fraction of the size of yours) and I can only imagine how you felt when you knew you had lost the stone. Re stones and safety, I asked a cutter who is popular around PS what he thought about prong settings versus bezels and he said:
'I love prong settings! Stones are easily damaged in them (recutting needed) or lost (new sale).'

Okay, did you post photos of your mom's spess JKT pendant because I don't recall, and I really want to see it!! It sounds lovely. Bezels are great, but so many people don't know how to properly do them, and actually many stones get damaged while being bezel set, so I avoid them for the most part. I also actually like seeing the sides of my gems. I would consider a bezel for a cabochon though.
