Let it all hangout -- The Grumpies, whinies, complainies Get It Off Your Chest Thread....

A very minor grumble that is totally a First World problem (if it can even be called a problem, which is doubtful.)

Lindt chocolate bunnies in the USA do not come with a bell.
The ones sold in the UK have a bell. Why don't we in the USA rate a bell, hmmmm?

Every Easter since she was little I have bought a Lindt chocolate bunny for my daughter. It's our tradition.
It doesn't matter that she is now an adult. Or that she could buy her own, or that she could just buy a chocolate bar.
It's still fun to bite the ears off a chocolate bunny. :D

Every year I grump about the lack of a bell. Also my tradition, I suppose.

End of ridiculous grumble.

Oh, and my husband must have a Palmer (really bad, waxy brand of chocolate) rabbit and Santa every year.
They are solid chocolate, and flat as a pancake.
I call them Road-kill Santa and Road-kill rabbit. As in, "Do you want me to buy you a road-kill rabbit this year?"
He always says "Yes."
He's 76. And must have his cheapo chocolate bunny and Santa. Maybe it's nostalgic? I wonder if he ate them as a kid?
Now I have to ask him.

Haha, the Reddit comments are funny!

An update on my extended family vacation situation:

My sleep patterns are back to normal after taking a good herbal sleep concoction for one night! 8-)2

Now the biggest pitfall is the political discussions the patriarch loves to engage in, and often insists on, during or after group meals… and all meals here are group meals! :-(

You are braver than me! Good luck!!

Follow-up on my grumble:

Yesterday I decided to satisfy my curiosity and used the contact form on the Lindt website to ask about the reason for the UK vs. USA bells discrepancy (I figured it was probably just about cost). I just got a reply!

"I am so sorry, the Gold Bunnies sold in the US do not have the bell or charm as you've seen from the UK. We are unable to include this as it may also be a potential choking hazard. So sorry about that! I will however notate this for our product specialists going forward. "

So I guess the laws about choking hazards in the USA are a bit more conservative than in the UK? I thought that was interesting, but also a bit disturbing for child safety in UK.

That was my first thought, but it’s strange that the EU has different child safety standards that would allow a choking hazard. I totally get why you would feel sad about it though.

When my baby was little, we intentionally bought the German version of Sophie The Giraffe because she was made of safer rubber due to stricter German baby toy regulations. Our German friend sent it to us from a store in her town. We then had two Sophie the Giraffe’s anyway because we inherited an American one from a cousin!

Nowdays they have to put a DO NOT INGEST label on automotive batteries.

Either people in general are dumber (which might be the case) or Americans look for any reasons to sue anybody for any reason (which might be the case).

Wellllll, I was a dollar store today (replacing spray bottles see upthread complaint) and saw Lindt chocolate bunnies with bells on them. Canada.

You’d be surprised at what kids can get in their mouths quick as anything.

To clarify, I'm laughing at the li'l vid you posted. In fact, I can't stop laughing—or watching! It's her spotter completely missing her...and then her toe point while she's lying on the mat. So hilarious!

I was insulted by my car the other day. I was merrily driving along when she said "Hey, driver's assistance is available on this route. Pay attention to the speed limit, yada yada yada safety yada yada yada." I was 5 mph over the speed limit and the rest of the traffic was going a lot faster.

Wow, I set mine to tell me when I'm going really fast, but it doesn't tell me anything at 5 miles. Is that a factory thing that happens?

It's part of the safety systems on my BMW although it's not so safe when I'm alone in the car and a voice starts to speak and I panic and almost swerve into another lane.

I think that would drive me nuts. Everyone here typically drives more than 5 miles over, closer to 10 on the highway. Right or wrong, it's how it is.

Mine is not set up to speak at me, I just have the thing on the windshield that turns red when I’m going over the limit. I’ve chosen to ignore it bc I’m almost always going 3-5 over, which has proven expensive since I got a speeding ticket last week coming home from a basketball game out of town. Forgot there was a 10pm drop and a cop always sits there. Boooo. I might disable the windshield indicator, I clearly cannot be trusted.

Perhaps UK has better parenteral supervision in that a chocolate bunny with a bell is not expected to be given to a child to open unsupervised?

Just a thought.

DK :))

Yup, that would drive me nuts too as I get annoyed whenever I see an advice on the dash to change up a gear when I am about to go into a windy road! :roll2:

Why is it so difficult to find cheap stockings and sturdy suspender belts compared with 20 years ago?!

I don't wear tights or hold ups as they don't agree with me, and have been wearing stockings with a suspender belt since I was about 17yo.

Last time I replenished my stock of stockings was in early 2010s, and needed to replenish and to replace the cheapo belts as they had fallen apart.

Took me ages to source both last night.

Oh, I thwarted mine at every turn. I found it spooky, especially because it's rural where I am. Not appreciated.
Opinion are like AH's, and you are not equipped to have one, madam.
She continues to blink obstinately at me.
We have an understanding.

Ugh. The head up display. I was so excited about it at first but it only works for me when I'm using it with navigation. I like the graphic display that accompanies the voice-guided navigation; otherwise I find it distracting so it's turned off 99% of the time.

That is a very broad statement, I think.

I know! However, I have not come across a child finding a loaded hand gun in a drawer and firing it being reported in UK.

But not all U.S. parents can be tarred with that brush, right?

Before I knew my DH, he used to collect antique firearms. He had a rifle with which he hunted with his brother and their dad. When our DD was born, he got rid of the firearms.
When our DD went to other kids' homes for a sleepover, I first asked the parents if there was a gun in the house. If there was, she would not be allowed to attend that sleepover.

I do wish the US didn't have the gun culture it has, but it is what it is. Maybe someday laws will change. It can't happen soon enough.

That’s a really mean sentiment. I am disappointed to read this from you.

Further, the stricter laws about children and choking hazards in the U.S. bothers you bc you think that parents should be constantly vigilant and it’s the fault of the parent not the product of a child swallows and chokes on something? That’s scarily close to victim-blaming.

My German friend brought my little girl back a few gifts when he visited home and one of those was a Kinder Egg. At the time they were still BANNED in the United States because of the choking hazard. I never let my daughter open it. They have since been unbanned and my daughter loved getting them for several years but I always supervised her.

I don’t even know what my point is anymore bc you have me very upset over your gross generalities. I’m going to utilize the ignore function so I don’t say anything that will get me banned.

All countries need to pass laws to make kids safer, no matter how-- be it by choking, guns, Internet safety, toy safety or whatever.

There were some really scary toys being sold when I was a kid.

I had a classmate in elementary school who was out for several months due to a dart thrown by a friend (another classmate) entering his pupil! He didn't lose his vision-- so fortunate. But I recall his iris was misshapen afterward.

And bike helmets? We didn't wear them-- no one even thought of the danger.

It's a good thing that laws have changed regarding unsafe toys. No doubt they need to go even further.
