NoonersMom and Glaucomflecken - Both of your dresses are so beautiful. I really love that they are each simple,. yet unique in thier own ways.
PSers have much much better tastes than most knotties do!

Oh you are so right about that MS!!!!

Hey, Best Wishes to you! I hate to say something bad about your dress...but I used to film wedding videos and everytime a bride had this dress it either made her look really short from the waste down or like she was standing in a ditch and her dress was scrunched up around her legs. I am not trying to be ugly....just I encourage you to look at a bunch of different things and not get too set on any one thing before you try them on. I just got engaged as well, so I know how you feel. I hope I did not offend you...just a word of advice to all brides: think of how these dresses will look on film.

umm. mymodog - I don''t know who you are.. but PS is not THAT sort of forum.. and also.. you might want to be more specific as to who you are talking to, since about 40 girls have posted their gowns in this thread. But its better that you didn''t, since we don''t want to hear your rude comments anyway. Go be mean to people on the knot.

I was not trying to be rude. Just honest. I was talking about the dress in the black and white pictures that is plain at the top and the scrunched up at the bottom. The best advice I got was not to get too attached to the dresses I saw in the magazine...to try them on...and consider the fact that I may not like it once I saw it in person...and to really think about things like "how is this dress going to photograph?" ; "Will this dress look too dated in pictures?" I have filmed over 200 weddings. The dresses that really came out good on film were the ones that made the most of the brides best features. The bunched things looks great in the back on most people, but if you are not tall enough they can make you look shorter. I am sorry if I offended anyone...I would want someone to tell me things to look for rather than me spending $1000 to $3000.00 on a dress that does not make me look my best in pictures. Listen most people hire a makeup artist on their wedding day...WHY?...because they do not know how to make their makeup show up in pictures. She hasn''t bought the dress...so what it the big deal?

Jessesgirl- i love those justin alexanders!!! so gorgeous!
Nooners- love the simplicity of your dress... the ruffles looks so dainty and girly...
glaucomflecken- i also love the simplicity of your dress... very classic.

yay! i love everyone''s dresses!

Glaucomfleckin - Your dress is very simple & elegant. :) Love it!

Melissa - Thanks...haven''t checked out the Knottie yet, but will take your word on it. In general I think the ladies around here have great taste! How can they not when they are going for great cuts? hehe.

Flopkins - Thanks...I wanted something that was feminie & sexy, but also updated & unique. :)

Are you guys (or should I say "gals"!
5.gif
) talking about the dresses that I posted? The black and white pictures with the plain top and pick up skirt bottom?
33.gif
I''m not tall at all, so the dress will probably look awful on me.
15.gif
It looks so beautiful in the pics though.

chellebelle - I think that mymodog was indeed talking about your dresses.. Thats the best I could tell, since she doesn''t ADDRESS HER POSTS.. but dont'' listen to her. She''s being rude, and doesn''t even know how to properly post on a message board, and Those pickup gowns are BEAUTIFUL. I have seen pics of them on real brides too and they dont look bad at all.

Chellbelle, that dress is very similiar to one I almost chose, I LOVE it....I think it''s classy, elegant and beautiful!

MelissaSue & JessesGrl~ Thank you for the kind comments! I agree that those dresses are beautiful and hopefully I will be beautiful in one! I will keep in mind that it might not be flattering on me (since I'm not tall- 5'3") and try not to get my hopes up. (I think it's too late though!)
5.gif
And my sister or my BM's better tell me if I look awful in it! (And all of my PS buddies too, because I'm definitely posting pics when I try those babies on!)
2.gif
I have to admit that I've already fallen in love with that style... hmmm... maybe if I wear huge platform shoes? Or stilts?!? Lol I'm just kidding of course.... but I do LOVE THAT DRESS!
30.gif

chellebelle...first of all, the pics you posted are smoking gorgeous dresses!! My dress was not poofy at all (it was Maggie Mariella...posted somewhere in the first few pages of this thread) but seeing those pick up skirt dresses makes me wish that I had one like that...oh well, too late for me!!

In any case, don''t fret about anything. Go and try stuff on and see what you like. You might realize when you try them on that you love them as much as you anticipated. OR who knows, maybe you''ll end up getting something that you never expected you would get. That is actually what happened to me. I would have NEVER picked my dress from the picture alone, but when I tried it on it was fantastic. And actually, it was the suggestion of the salesperson helping me.

No matter what...have fun with it...good luck

I am 5''3 as well and I think my dress is about as "poufy" as it gets...(it''s posted in here somewhere, MelissaSue enlarged it for me) anyways....it looked great on and don''t let being tiny stop you....you can pull it off!!

chellebelle ~ Definitely don''t let mymodog''s comment discourage you!!! I''m 5''0" tall and wearing a poofy ballgown!! All I have ever heard on theknot.com & other websites was that petite brides should absolutely not wear ballgowns... blah, blah, blah... but some of the girls here posted pics of their petite friends wearing dresses that the knot would apparently say they couldn''t pull of but they did and they looked great so I''m going for it!!! You know, I''m short ~ I''m not going to try to pretend I''m not or try to create some visual illusion of height just for some pictures... Honestly, what is more flattering than wearing something you adore? A friend of mine works in a bridal salon and she had a great point about another friend who had always dreamed of a big fluffy traditional gown, but ended up wearing a sheath/silhoutte type dress because everyone felt that it was slightly more flattering on her... She later said that she really regretted it because, while she did look really nice in the dress, it wasn''t really ''her'' and it wasn''t what she''d really wanted so she actually felt pretty uncomfortable in her own skin the whole day. Anyhow, you may get the dress on and really not like it, but if you do love it, wear it!!!
9.gif

Chellbelle (you have one of my fave PS e-rings, btw!!!) just wanted to add my .02 about the dress w/ the layered pouf stuff on the skirt (I don''t know what to call it.)''

A dear friend of mine--who''s barely 4 foot 10 inches!!--wore an Anne Barge dress with that sort of detailing at her wedding in Sep. And she looked GORGEOUS!!!! She is short, short, short--no two ways about it--but the dress looked elegant and was so well constructed (it was strapless and she''s a 34F bust!) that it really looked great. I''ll try to find a pic.

I''m sure the other comment was trying to be helpful, but as MS has said, PS is just a more positive and encouraging place, and that''s why we all love it so much!! See for yourself, and if you have your heart set on a style and you still love it when you''ve seen it on.....then do it!!!

Ok, this pic isn''t the best, but the fold/poufs are asymmetrical and I wanted to show this angle.....I''ll post another one that shows how it''s flattering on her regardless of height!!

sardougpoufdress.jpg

....and here''s one from the front. No one can pretend she''s not short (I''m the tallest in this pic at 5''3" !!) but who cares! She looked amazing!!

girlygirls04.jpg

Yep ~ those pics that Blueroses just posted were the ones that that helped me see that I could wear what I wanted and still look amazing!!

teebee, as I posted them I was like, "ya know, I feel like I've done this before!" I get mild dementia in my 30s, I guess!!! Duh!!

But I was just cruising back in the thread and reminding myself of what's going on: I'm sorry the ebay dress wasn't in great shape, but glad that it confirmed that it's THE ONE.....have you ordered it yet? What's the progress? It's such a beauty and you will look gorgeous...honestly, at 5'0" you're a giant compared to my friend!!! I thought of you when I saw AG's new sparkler!!
9.gif

eta: It's official, I have partsheimers. I just went back and saw that I'd posted almost the exact pics (the dancing pic of her is different this time--this one shows more of that layering/folding detail on the dress) but that's just sad that my PS recall is so short-term. AAHH!!!!!

GOD, I love looking at all of these dresses!! You gals will ALL have to come back and post pics of yourselves for real after the big day. (When I'm sure I'll still be on the list! Hell, MelissaSue will use her mantilla as a baby-baptism drape and I'll STILL be on the list!!!

blueroses! Thank you for posting that picture. I''m sure it will make chellebelle feel so much better! Your friend DID look gorgeous. My best friend that is getting married in april is 4''11" (barely) and isnt wearing a skirt with pickups but it is a very full poofy skirt. It looks beautiful on her though. A non-poofy dress just would not have looked right! I can''t wait til her wedding so I can show you all pictures!

Thanks MS!!! Is this the same friend who is your BM that you mentioned? So nice to get to share your engagements together!!

This is why I heart PS--forget the "rules", you know? A bride should wear what she wants to wear that will make her feel the most beautiful for the day her marriage begins.

Actually two of my BMs are engaged, both of whom are my good friends from HS. The one is getting married in April and the other next march.

Thats all of us. I''m on the left, my short friend whose wedding is in april in in the middle and the BM I took shopping yesterday who is getting married next march is on the right.

I also just found out that my OTHER good friend (a GUY friend) from high school, who I hardly see anymore also get engaged around christmas time and is getting married NEXT april. I''m so happy for him (And for his poor fiance) because they''ve been together almost 5 years and the last time I talked to him he said he had no immediate plans for becoming engaged or anything. poor girl!!

MS, you are too cute!! Love the pink pants!...and good for your male friend. Maybe he can send some of that motivation westward?
2.gif
So the Maggie-bride will be the one on the right? Love how there are so many different styles of dresses and I love to drool over all of them.......ahh, wedding ****;)

Ok, I can make this confession on this thread. Some of you LIW might remember that I have a silly "rule" about trying on dresses---i.e. I won''t do it AT ALL until I''m engaged. Bring on all the rings in the world to try, but I won''t go into a bridal shop for myselt, buy magazines, etc. ....WELL.....I got one of those airline miles-about-to-expire things (didn''t have enough for a free tic or upgrade) so I got a bunch of subscriptions. And I couldn''t help myself: I got one to Modern Bride. I mean, it was free! And I remember liking that one from when my sis was engaged better than Bride, so.....bad me!!!
38.gif
My very first official wedding **** affiliation! Don''t tell!

blueroses- Good for you getting a subscription to Modern Bride. I look at it like this.. I''m GOING to buy the $6 magazines anyway.. so I may as well save a little bit of money by subscribing. I have a subscription to Brides and Modern Bride. I want to get one to Bridal Guide as well. Those three are my favorite, but I do agree with you that Modern Bride is a little better than Brides.. Brides is usually thicker though and has more ads.. so it depends on what you are looking for.. something to actually READ.. or something to look at pretty pictures in.. FI always makes fun of me because i am in constant search of new Wedding ****.. and he''s like "WHY? so you can see the same ads in a different cover?" and he DOES have a valid point, but i CAN''T HELP IT!

Hehe.. sometimes I am sad that my wedding is so far off, but what would I DO with myself if I wasn''t planning my wedding?

MelissaSue, JessesGrl, rms, teebee, & blueroses~
Thank you so much!
1.gif
I do feel a lot better now. I think mymodog was giving advice in her own way and I will take it that way. As advice. I''ll try not to let it get me down!
2.gif
I will also try on other dresses too... even ones I wouldn''t picture myself wearing!

Blueroses~
That is so flattering to know that my e-ring is one of your faves!
face23.gif
Thank you! That pic helped tremendously because your friend looked absolutely beautiful. And she''s shorter than me! And 34F?!? WOW. What she doesn''t have in height, she makes up in... well, you know!
emembarrassed.gif
Her dress was gorgeous and she looked perfect in it. And that deep red color of the BM dress is THE color I want for my BM''s too! I LOVE IT!!!

Oh, and MelissaSue, that pic of you and your BM''s is so cute! That''s a lot of bride-to-be''s!

Chellebelle, you got that right!! (About my friend....we were roomies in college and there was never any risk of mixing up our lingerie!! In fact, one of the other not-so-chestily-blessed BM''s and I were being really loopy and we put her strapless bustier that she wore w/ the dress on.....our HEADS!!! One cup fit perfectly around each head!! And then we ran around the house wearing our giant-bra-yarmulkes and said we were siamese twins getting bat-mitzvahed. In front of her hubby and the bride''s then FI!! It was pretty funny, actually, but yes, she is endowed, big time!!!) You will have to keep us posted once you start trying things on!! And again, your Ritani is so dreamy--your pics are some of the only handshots on PS.....there are some stunning custom jobs that are similar, but I think yours is the only actual ritani in that style I''ve seen such great shots of on here. And they did a GREAT job fixing the bezel! You must be so over the moon about it all! Wasn''t it an older stone that you had re-set if I recall correctly? Are you off crutches now (I loved those proposal pics.)

Yay, I''m so glad your bms will be in that color!! I adore that deep red too....in fact I am very seriously considering wearing it again at my own wedding. (I know, it''s a weird idea, but I will probably wear my mom''s wedding dress and I''ve mulled the idea of wearing the red for the reception--it is MTM by the designer, couture, I may never own anything so gorgeous again, AND, red is the traditional color for brides in a lot of Asian cultures....I mean, I''m a big old pasty wasp, but my mom teaches East Asian history and it would have some resonance. Anyway, tangent!! There is another full length pic of the dress in the LIW forum under "introduce yourselves."

MS, thanks for the reinforcement.....I felt a little silly subscribing, but you''re totally right. I also like the InStyle wedding one. I figure it''s better to pay less (or nothing!) to read at home in comfort rather than at the grocery store with furtive glances over my shoulder!! Your FI is absolutely right....but I DO like seeing the same under different cover!!

PSUHeather, that is dreamy!!

Blueroses - I had missed the bra size comment before.. MY short friend is a 40F!!! (If you couldnt tell from the pictures). It must be a common thing for short girls to have giant boobs! I am a teeny little 34A, so we are just about as far opposite as we can get in that dept.

LOL - I also just saw your comment about you still being on the list when my babies are baptized. THat is certainly not true! But you are so funny and cute!!! Sometimes I THINK i read full posts but then I completely miss things! But you will be off the list far before i am even married.

hey girls!

thanks everyone for the compliments on my dress!!! I was totally going for the look you all described...simple yet classic!!! My mom was always one of those "less is more" people so that''s usually how I am with everything too (except my e-ring, the more blingy the better!!!). I''m thinking of a simple headband with a sparkly veil and simple jewelery as well. My FI is wearing a kilt so I didnt want to show HIM up! haha I''m also going to wear the spaghetti straps with it because i''m a bit top heavy and dont want a strapless to make me too self concious.

I LOVE all your dresses too... I looked through all the pages of this thread and wow!

best wishes!
Sarah
