teebee - did you get that dress?!?!! I LOVE IT!!!
Thanks Blue Chica ~ I LOVE IT TOO!!! Yep, I did win the one I was bidding on on ebay.... Unfortunately it is a little more "beat up" than I had expected... I think it will take too much $$ in alterations/repairs than I am willing to spend on a used dress.... Plus, I think my boobs are never going to fit in it, no matter how much weight I lose. So, I will probably relist it on ebay and order the same dress brand new from the bridal salon. After seeing the dress in person, even though it''s not in great shape, it is most definitely the dress I want without a doubt so I''ve decided that I''m willing to sacrifice and skimp on some other things in order to have this dress. Plus, my fiance thinks that the florist next door to his office may be willing to do our flowers for us (usually she doesn''t mess w/ weddings but she adores Bryan so she may want to do something nice for him... which would mean DISCOUNT!!!).

snow_happy,
I LOVE the Youlin dress that moremoremore posted when I saw it a few weeks ago. I just saw Princess Diaries 2 this past weekend, and I thought maybe it was a Youlin dress. But you found out it wasn''t? Do you know if Youlin was inspired to make there dress after seeing the movie?

Hi, ladies! I love this thread and I''m so excited to start looking at wedding dresses!
36.gif
I got engaged a week and a half ago and am now starting to realize I can actually start planning a wedding... for real!!! (Opposed to planning when I wasn''t even engaged yet, lol.)
20.gif

Anyways, I need your help! I''ve been looking at bridal magazines since last summer (got a little ahead of myself
5.gif
), and figured out what style I LOVE. The thing is that I don''t know anything about wedding dresses. I love the poofy princess style dresses where the fabric is all bunched up... I have no idea what this is called. I saw the back of one dress by Justina McCaffrey in a bridal ad, but cannot find any "front" pics of it. Yankie25 posted a pic of it, as well as a dress by Ulla (?) that I liked. Reena posted another pic of a dress that I absolutely ADORE, but I don''t know who the designer is. Ivanadiamond posted lots of pics of the same dress on a "real person"... so gorgeous!

So to sum it up, does anyone know what style this is called and a good site where I can find these type of dresses? Also, if anyone knows the designers of the dresses I asked about or know where I can find pics of them, it would be much appreciated! I don''t even know where to start.

thank you! chelle

Here are the pics of the dresses...

The dress that reena and ivanadiamond posted...

The Justina McCaffrey dress that yankie25 posted earlier... can't find pics of the front...

The other pic yankie25 posted. I think by Ulla? Something "whirlwind"...

edit: DUH. I just realized after I posted all these pics that two of them are the SAME dress.

(The first set of pics and this last pic). I will do a search on "Ulla" and see what I can find...

Its called a pick-up skirt. They''re crazy popular right now.
Justina McCaffrey has a TON of them
There is a few maggie sotteros like that (Capri and CapriMarie are the style names)
Justin Alexander has one.

OH........ WOW.........

MelissaSue, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! That helps me out tremendously and that link that you posted is absolutely amazing. I didn''t even realize there were so many different types of "pick-up skirts". There are some with a few pick-ups (is that what the bunches of fabric are called?) on the skirt, and some with a ton of them all over the skirt. I think I''d like something inbetween. Anyways, I better get started looking at all those gorgeous pics! Thanks again for going through all that trouble... I really appreciate it.

no problem.. glad I could help! I already found my dress, so I can''t look for any more dresses for ME.. so I might as well help others find their dresses!

I saw your dress when I was looking through this thread and it is stunning!!! It is so beautiful and elegant. I wish I could pull off something like that!
5.gif
I bet it looks perfect on you! Did it take you a long time to find "THE Dress"? I thought I liked the strapless pick-up dresses, and then you posted that one by Justin Alexander that isn''t strapless.
30.gif
It''s so pretty and I really like the bodice part (how it''s wrapped).

Oh, and how do I find out the prices?
33.gif
I can''t seem to find the prices on the websites. I think The Knot website just shows dollar signs $$$$. Yikes! I saw a few dresses that I loved in a bridal magazine and some celebrities were wearing them. Um, yeah.... in my dreams....
20.gif

prices on bridal gowns are REALLY hard to find online. You can try sites like bridesave.com and houseofbrides.com that list prices, but they don''t have prices for the BIG designers.. (the expensive ones)

Thanks for the compliment on my dress. I absloutely LOVE it. it actually didn''t take me long to find it at all. It was the first dress I tried on. I had seen it in a display window before I got engaged and knew I loved it. I tried on some other dresses, but I never loved any of the others as much.

The justin alexander gown IS gorgeous. I love the bodice too. There is a girl on the knot that may be getting that dress, you could page her on the knot to see if she knows the price. her name is Ashbug1217 I think.

buena girl--
Yes I think the inspiration came from Princess Diaries 2 but can''t be totally sure? Maybe the costume maker was inspired by Youlin?
3.gif
I definitely read on a website that the dress was made by the costume designer but maybe it was inaccurate? Not sure. Anywho, I like the 3/4 sleeves on the PD2 dress more than the youlin dress but the overall style is beautiful.

snow_bunny- I just tried on a few justin alexanders, and I don''t know how much the particular dress is in that style you''ve been looking at, but his prices were around $1500 and up, to give you a rough idea. Good luck! I think they''re beautiful... I wish I could do the big poofy thing, it just looks huge on me!!!

I love both your dress and the one that you posted of that curvy girl. I haven''t tried on any dresses yet si I have no idea what looks good on me. I really short (5''2) and a size 6 but I have an athletic build not a frail one. I run everyday. Maybe this weekend I''ll go try some to get an idea of what I like because I seem to change my mind everyday.
Just try on different style dresses to figure that out. That dress MelissaSue posted of the curvy girl is very nice. I am looking for a dress in that style (either sheath or mermaid) because I figure it will show my curve more and I don''t like ball gown. A line are ok but I like a sleek dress. This is the dress I tried on at Davids Bridal and liked; I like the lacey one MelissaSue posted too but I didn''t know they had that. I am going to ask them about it.

This is the same dress that I bought! It is so beautiful, it was only the 6th dress I tried on, when I knew it was for me. I still need to get it alterered, becaue I have weird italian hips.....but I can''t wait to wear it! But I don''t think I am going to wear the gloves, its a little hot in NM in the summer.

Melissa,
Congratulations! My daughter became engaged a few weeks ago and she has chosen the exact dress as you! It is absolutely stunning! She went to a bridal shop in Savannah and tried it on and decided to look no further. The problem is the cost...$2500. Have you been able to locate it for a better price? When is your wedding date? My daughter''s is May ''06 so we are hoping that the price will come down by then. Thanks for your time.
Diane

Diane D, I ended up finding a different dress. That one was far too much money. Mine is very similar to the original dream dress. :) Its in this thread somewhere. I want to say Page 11?? Its by Symphony Bridals style S1197, and it is $790 at my bridal shop. I also know that you can get Replicas of that Melissa Sweet gown made. a company called beautiful bride of OKC makes one for $750, or you could check ebay.

Here is my gown, it is an Ian Stuart gown ( he is a british designer) in the US the same gowns are under his partners name, Justin Alexander...I bought the dress in NY however and mine is an Ian Stuart.....I dunno but anyways here it is! It is Ivory and has some pink detail in the bodice ( you can''t tell by the B&W picture)

JUSTS048840s.jpg

Jesse, your dress looks lovely! I can picture the pink. I love Justin Alexander (and apparently Ian Stuart)! The dress i picked has some of the detailing he does on his dresses. LOVE IT!
30.gif

jessesgirl - I hope you don''t mind, but I could really see the details of your dress in the itty bitty picture so I went and found a big one!
Here it is! Its gorgeous. I love the boning in the top and the sweetheart neckline

JUSTS048840l.jpg

THANKS!!! I couldn''t figure out how to make it bigger!!!

ohhhhhhhhhh, so pretty jessesgirl!!! I love seeing color in the bodice!!!

Thanks for the compliments! This was th second dress I tried on ( I tried on 6 in total) I went in to the bridal salon saying that I wanted something simple, sexy and not "poufy" and ended up with the COMPLETE opposite!!! I also REALLY wanted to wear my mothers veil and ended up not being able to b/c it is white and my dress is ivory and rose. The dress was a little pricey but I tried it on an knew it was "the one"! Anyways, I ended up getting a cathedral length veil with ivory satin piping along the edges. Plus the "rose" color in my bodice set the whole color scheme, since the wedding is 10/1/05 (autumn) I chose cocoa colored satin bridemaids gowns and the flowers will be pale pink roses w/copper leaves. Hence the color scheme/theme: Chocolate and Pink!

What is everyone elses colors/themes?

You all have such beautiful dresses! Well, I''ve tried on a total of 6 dresses probably. (Keep in mind we''re not engaged yet...LOL). Couldn''t find one that fit me right...both in cut & style. Then while I was in Austin last week, I had to run to the maul to pick up a few things I forgot to pack. While peeking around in Nordstroms, I ran across a dress that I fell in love with. The only picture I can find online is one that can''t be copied as it''s a rotating banner....damn developers, what were they thinking? lol. So I am going to have to give you the link & directions.

As a side note, I purchased the dress over a week ago & it still hasn''t arrived. Turns out the associate went on vacation & the dress never made it to shipping until she returned. I am told it will arrive tomorrow.

If my BF is reading this, do NOT look at the link. I will be extremely upset with you as you are NOT to see the dress until I walk down the isle.

Ok, now that disclaimer is done, here we go. LOL (Just found out yesterday that he has been checking out pricescope & WF even though he told me he didn''t look at it...LOL).

Visit www.tadashicollection.com. Once there, click on English, collections, spring/summer. The dresses will scroll horizontally, it''s dress #5, although the dress shows up pink. I purchased an Ivory color dress.

So that''s it....maybe someone else technically equiped can figure out how to copy the picture. LOL.

Oh Wow! That dress is lovely!

Here is the dress NoonersMom is talking about
1.gif

Does this make me tech-savvy?

Tybee....thank you It also helps that it''s light on the wallet....at least by wedding dress standards & couture. LOL. Plus shipping saves on the sales tax!

Snow....YES! That makes you tech savy...at least in my book! Thanks for posting! Now I have a pic to forward to a few friends until the real deal arrives! LOL.

I think it does make you tech-savvy SnowHappy!!
